“I stopped at Brandon’s door and put my ear to it. His babbling was low and it sounded like he was having a conversation with someone. I opened the door and a rush of air escaped the room, and sent cold static up my spine. It was the middle of winter and I knew the heat was turned up, like it was close to 80 degrees in the house (my mom wasn’t a fan of the cold) and my son was sitting in the middle of his floor, talking to his closet.”
