Episode description

On Wednesday, February 24, 2021, host Judy Comeaux led a roundtable discussion aimed at answering the very real question many of us ask when confronted with the infidelity of priests and Catholic lay leaders: Why should I remain? Using Fr. Mike Schmitz's excellent episode from his own podcast with Ascension Presents as a starting point, "Why You Can't Put Your Faith in People," the Roundup participants explained the necessity, even in the face of real distress and hurt from scandal, that each of have to ground our Faith not on the example of others, but on the Truth of the Church's Tradition and Magisterium. We must remember that the grace communicated through the Sacraments are not dependent on the holiness of the minister. And we must put the onus on ourselves to offer the most upright example possible even as we are realistic about the examples given to us by others. In this we are heeding our Lord's command to concentrate more on the beam in our own eye than on the splinter in our neighbor's.
