¶ Welcome to Recovery Demystified
Hello, hello, welcome to Recovery Demystified. My name's Early. I'm so happy to have y'all here today. I thought I'd record another introduction episode just to because we've had a lot of new listeners come in lately and a special warm welcome to our friends from the Dopey Nation. Recovery Demystified is a show for people that don't really feel like they fit in anywhere else. I personally tried 12-step recovery and it did not work for me and in fact it made me feel worse.
And I know a lot of people that would never even try that. And I think that we just need a lot more spaces and resources for people that do not fuck with God, that are not interested in the twelve step recovery world. So if that's you, you are so welcome here and I'm so happy to have you. This is also a place for people that feel like a fucking freak or feel like a total weirdo and haven't quite found a place that they feel at home yet.
So if that's you, I'm really happy you're here and I love you and this is your home. And of course the title talks about queer and neurodivergent people and their allies. It's a show for everyone, but if I'm being honest
I'm queer and I'm neurodivergent and those are the type of listeners that I attract. So if that's you and you haven't found a space that feels welcoming to you either, hello, you're in the right place. On this show, you're gonna hear two different kinds of episodes. We have interviews with queer and neurodivergent people.
¶ Exploring Diverse Recovery Paths
People primarily, but it's not limited to that. We hear stories of people who use harm reduction. We hear stories of people That have gone to the brink and somehow come back and rebuilt their lives. We hear stories of people that have gone back to controlled use of substances, which is a thing. It's not a thing for everyone, and it's not a thing for me. And we also hear stories from people that quit before it got bad.
Which I think is a really important perspective because you do not in fact need to hit rock bottom before you address your use of substances. And I think a lot of times people wonder, like, oh, am I an addict? Am I an alcoholic? And they spend a lot of energy wondering about those questions when in reality what it's okay to ask ourselves is, is my use of substances bothering me? Is it not working for me anymore? Is it not serving me?
And I think it's really important to reach folks when they're in that questioning stage because it's okay to seek healing before you hit rock bottom. It it's my old house. It's not a very nice place and you don't need to visit it. I promise you that. So yeah, we tell stories of people that quit before it got bad as well. And I'm really happy just to tell like a diversity of experiences and a bunch of different kinds of stories. So if you haven't heard yourself reflected on a podcast yet,
you just might hear your story here. And then the second format of episodes that I put out are addiction recovery resources that actually help. And there's a lot of books that I filter through. There's podcasts and then there's like tips and tricks. And personally I fucking hate being told what to do. I don't believe in one size fits all. I think that you know what's best for yourself and you just have to learn how to reconnect to your intuition and find those things that work for you.
So I'm gonna put out a bunch of suggestions of things that I think are helpful and valuable and worthwhile. And then it's just up to you to put together the puzzle pieces of your recovery and ask yourself like
How does this make me feel and is this working for me? And this is a place of empowerment. This is a place where you're gonna feel encouraged and loved and held. And yeah, I guess that's about it.
