¶ Introduction to Reiki
Welcome . This is ReadySet Reiki , a podcast about Reiki , this universal energy life force , from the curious beginner to the seasoned master teacher . We welcome all systems , all energies and all levels .
Reiki is a journey , not a destination , and on this ReadySet Reiki journey , we refer to ourselves as guides rather than hosts , as we too are traveling , supporting and learning on this Reiki journey as well . And with that said , I am your first guide , tracy Searite .
And I'm your second guide , Millie Pampina .
And today on ReadySet Reiki . What a privilege it is to have this guest . Her name is Srin Silva . Now , amazing , I did not know this about her . She is a Fortune 500 business executive . How amazing is that ? She has launched over 25 well known brands , some which are household names .
She is also a medium intuitive healer , reiki master and a certified social emotional coach . She works to help people reconnect themselves by assessing the innate information that humans have left behind in the spirit of progress . So welcome Welcome to ReadySet Reiki .
Thank you , I'm happy to be here . The privilege is mine really . Tracy and Millie .
Wonderful , so we'll get started with our interview . So I gave our listeners a little taste of who you are , but tell us about yourself .
Yeah , I'm based in Boulder , Colorado , was born in California , as you mentioned . I was an advertising executive for a really long time and one day I heard a voice when I was living in California that said how much longer are you going to do this for ? And I'd never heard a voice before .
And I was really in my career and within four months , and with the permission of my manager and the CEO of our company , I relocated to Colorado with my family .
Along meeting people here in Colorado , I met a few women who were Reiki practitioners and I got really curious about what Reiki was and decided to pursue certification and also started a group , the Boulder Reiki community , here in Boulder , colorado , and Reiki really helped open me up to receiving messages about the body and about the spirit , which then helped me
develop my intuition and develop my mediumship . So I actually owe a lot to the practice of Reiki and to my teacher , and some of the plaques on the wall are my Reiki certifications Wonderful , wonderful . And those of you just listening to the podcast .
There are quite a bit of certifications up there and a lot of books too , so a lot of wisdom here . So listen up . So you gave us a little bit of information . So tell us exactly when Reiki came into your life 2012 .
Okay , so I've been saying it'll be 12 years next year and I started off by just doing sessions on my family because I was so excited to see the benefits of what it was doing for the people that I was working with . And then I started using it on myself . Then I started using it with my daughter .
When she would get sick , I would put my hands my father at the time he's no longer with us , unfortunately I would work with on him and he'd be like that's really great . You have to show your mother how to do that . I feel so good .
And he was very effusive about it and believed in its potential as a healing modality and now , 12 years in , I'm seeing it become more mainstream and more accepted as a practice .
It is , and first of all , sorry for your loss with your father , but yes , it's amazing how it is mainstream and it is the thing now to do , and we've had the secret for quite some time , but it's nice to see so many excited about it . So , with that , what is a common misperception about your work ?
Oh , there's a lot of misperceptions about it Because it's I don't think .
As human beings we have a language necessarily developed for what Reiki is , and so , rather than try and explain it because I think we all come to the table with different understandings and connotations of words , and so I just talked about it as a being a sort of healing and relaxation modality , and I basically say I'm just going to gently put my hands on you
or over you , depending on your comfort level , and you're fully clothed and you're going to be relaxed . It's going to be relaxation , and sometimes I will get messages around where you're blocked and where you need some healing .
And I just worked on a gentleman a few days ago who specifically wanted me to just check in on his energy body and his overall health because his father has cancer and he wanted to just have me see that .
Now I want to be clear that I'm not a doctor but as a Reiki master , I can put my hands over and kind of sense if there's any block , which is unfortunately for them . There weren't , and we had a really , really good session , right , yeah .
And that's interesting , you know say about I'm not a doctor , because people do come through the door . They want healing to happen and I've had questions where can I stop my insulin ? Can I stop my high blood pressure medicine ? And many people think that this is kind of that kind of thing to do common . I don't . I can stop taking this .
So it's very clear that we're not doctors . I mean , some of us are doctors who are reiki masters , but very good .
¶ Reiki Energy Healing
So what do you think is the biggest challenge in this industry today ?
I think in the United States , the challenge is largely , as I mentioned , around that lack of understanding and lack of exposure , and what I do , like that I'm seeing , though , is that , particularly in Boulder I don't know how it is wherever the other folks are there is more of a receptivity to . It , is a healing modality , and I'm seeing that start to shift .
I'm also seeing , alongside , that sort of somatic awareness grow with understanding your body , and that's something I'm really passionate about when I'm working with people in the business world as well .
You're not just this much of a person is there , and for good reason , is to keep you making sure you remember to eat , make sure you stay out of traffic , all kinds of fun right . Your body has its own wisdom and so a lot of times when I'm talking about Reiki , I'll go through the somatic door to explain it , like when you put it in your chest .
Through Reiki we can help to release and open that area . I'll be like oh okay , because I think people do have an awareness that emotions and traumas and things can sit in the body . So I find that to be a little bit better avenue . Yes , I think we can talk about it . Yeah , wonderful .
Wonderful . So what do you wish your younger self knew about your current profession .
Oh , I wish I would have gotten out of advertising a long time before , but not for a while . But yeah , I think you know my younger self was really very focused on striving , and there's nothing wrong with striving , but it was striving at all costs . Oh , yes , I helped pay the price for it .
I'm a daughter of immigrant parents and you know they work hard to bring us to this country and you know that striving mentality kind of came from there . I don't regret the career that I had , but I think when I moved to Colorado it would have been better if I just really started working from a healing place .
Now I'm an intuitive coach , so I blend a bunch of things together to shift people . So I'll bring in Reiki , I'll bring in intuitive readings , I'll bring in body sensing and somatics , so it's fun .
So if I had known Reiki to answer your question back when I was a business executive , I think I probably could have used it in certain instances to like bring calming to my own being like when I'd have to go into a big meeting , you know , full of executives and I needed to be strong .
I could have used some Reiki energy to clear and help heal and prepare me and equip me to go into those scenarios . Think it really would have helped with stress management . You know that sort of thing .
Right , I mean . Imagine if this was taught in schools for children to help them as a tool to navigate through life . How different things would be in the world .
Absolutely , and I think one of the things I'm most passionate about is really helping people step out of their brains all the time Because we're on the computer 24-7 . This culture is really and I'm not here to say this is bad or this is good .
I think everyone has to navigate to their own experience , but I do think that there's been a lack of tools , particularly for children , on how to unpack Actually did happens . School immunization , people , individual mission , femaleahls , green , all of that technological energy .
Yes , I think your brain just gets going on a loop and then kids are really stressed out and they're like boy kids are really stressed out . So I can't imagine a scenario where , with Reiki energy , kids could heal themselves or work to kind of abate stress .
My daughter will do that with herself and then she'll come to me sometimes she's an adult now and she'll be like can you put your hands on my stomach ? Like my stomach's really upset , so she'll drop in . She'll be like I really need help with that . I'm like okay , so I'll do a little bit of Reiki work Around her stomach from time to time .
My husband will be like I'm really stressed out , can you do a little bit of Reiki ? I'm gonna help me sleep , and so we'll leave it in there .
Beautiful . I love it . What a wonderful resource they have with you there .
It's fun for me too , so we're all getting out of it .
Absolutely . You're getting the benefits as well . So when it is time for you to get a Reiki tune up , what do you look for in a Reiki practitioner ?
Well , word of mouth for me has always been a big thing and , trusting my friends and their recommendations , I'm very open to a lot of different kinds of healing modalities to begin with . So if someone's had a good experience or if there's something that I'm curious about , I'll definitely go seek that out .
I'll also want to have a conversation with the practitioner to just get their take on how they work , what's the experience gonna be like , and to make sure that's somewhat consistent with how I've been trained , because with the different lineages and different approaches and you wanna make sure that you're aligned in terms of how you see this practice .
Now , fortunately , because I'm in the Boulder Reiki community and we started it my friend Gina and I we'll do Reiki on each other and so I know how she was trained Right . So and that's pretty fun we used to do a lot of Reiki circles where we'd have other practitioners come and we'd like do a swap , and that was really , really fun .
We'd usually have some sort of lecturer talk about it and then we would do an exchange .
Yeah , Wonderful , wonderful . So someone is brand new to this , our curious beginner . What advice would you give someone who is just starting out in this profession ?
Just starting out the profession , I would say be prepared for folks to be a little skeptical and to ask you a lot of questions like what is this ? And yada yada . But if it feels right to you and it's what you want to do , go ahead and go through the process of being trained and experience it . Don't let that shoot you down .
I know when I first heard like that's really woo-woo , that's really out there and I was like , yeah , and I'm still gonna do it because I think it's amazing and I'd had a session . So if you're curious , definitely have a few sessions . Definitely vet your teacher . My teacher was a recommendation . What else ?
Maybe have a side hustle while you're doing it , which would be true of any kind of a business , new business that you're starting , because we don't know how many clients you're gonna have at first , and then really try not to over-explain it . I think you can get lost in the over-explanation . Then people get confused . People need simplicity .
So , whatever you feel like you're delivering as a treatment for me I would say it's relaxation and information For them . Maybe they wanna work with people that are pregnant right , with women that are pregnant . So , whatever your modality is , just don't over-explain it . Just trust what you know and trust how you're teaching and just lean into it and enjoy it .
I love it . I love it . Trust the process . Yeah , absolutely . All right . So you mentioned a few things that you do and through our interview session and tell us all what are all the things you offer Classes , events just let our listeners know .
So I'm a third generation intuitive and I only found that out about five years ago . My family is from the island of Cyprus , which is the island of Aphrodite in mythology and a place that I absolutely love , and I found out because most of my family is abroad . So I found out from one of my cousins .
Oh yeah , they were intuitives Like you're , and I was like , oh boy , because I was always like I think I'm intuitive , so I do intuitive readings . So in an intuitive session you bring your question . Well , first I do a scan and see what's popping up for you with pattern wise . I don't feature forecast .
So if you call me up and you say I want a reading and I want to know what's going to happen in 30 years , I really can't tell you . Why is that ? Because you're going to make decisions that are going to continually change the course and that's just not how I read . I'll read what's around you and then kind of coach you through where the blocks are .
If they're local , I'll work with them through Reiki as well , like I did with the gentleman that I mentioned earlier this week . We started off with an energy sensing session with some Reiki . Then he got off the table and I did an intuitive reading . I'm also a medium , so somebody wants to connect to the departed .
I mean again , this all came because I learned Reiki .
This opens things up , doesn't it ?
It opens everything up at the same time I was like why don't we know this about this person ? So , and then when I went through intuitive frame like why do I know people have passed away ? We were asked to read a dog and I was like this dog is not here and then I realized that was a gift . So I do mediumship .
I have a few regular clients who call every year about family members . I really hold all of this with a high degree of integrity and love . It's really important to me to do this in an integrity way .
So what that means is when I read you I'm not here to scare anybody and it's important to say that I'm not going to be like , oh , you're going to be sick in like five months . That's not what we do . It's to empower the individual and when they hang up the Zoom or call or whatever it is , they should feel stronger , better inspired .
Yes , and they should feel like , if they don't need to call me over again , that they don't have to . It's not about hooking them up to something where they're just saying it's the same with the Reiki energy work .
If you have a really good session and you know your body knows when it needs to have another tune up , you give me a call so I do those things and then I am an intuitive coach . So what that means is I basically use intuition and social , emotional intelligence to help people .
So I work with a lot of women , primarily to help them remove blocks , and with their careers , their businesses , their relationships . I'll bring in all those tools . I'll bring in the Reiki , all that stuff , because we're three-dimensional human beings , we're not just this and you'll hear that a lot . You can find me at sarinselvacom For listeners of the podcast .
I'll offer a free 15-minute session for anybody who signs up . Just mention that you heard it on Ready Set Reiki and I'm really glad to have connected with the two of you and have other sisters who are doing this work , because it's important work .
The world has a lot of big challenges and we need this for people and this is a really , really healthy , non-invasive , energetically aligned way to make people feel better , and who doesn't want that ? I ?
love that , I love that and thank you for offering that for our listeners . Thank you , we're on a journey for sure and it's always good to support each other , because we're learning too right . We're learning from you and we learn from our clients . So this is a journey , so thank you . So our last question is what books do you recommend ?
I'm a voracious reader . I can see that this is just one . It's impressive .
¶ Reiki Practitioner Answers Questions
One of my favorite books is Radical Acceptance . It's something that I practice a lot . We can never really predict what's going on , and that doesn't mean that we need to be fearful of it , but if we can accept what's happening in the present , I think we're inherently stronger . I'm looking over to the bookshelf as you're talking .
One's I also like is one is called the production of reality , because I really believe that the way we think shapes our reality and our experience . We believe that the world is inherently bad . It will show us the bad parts if we believe that the world is inherently good , and I think people just need a reminder that we control some of that view .
Another book that I really love is the artist's way , which has a practice every morning of doing what's called morning pages , where you can just dump your brain out of everything that's coming up , and then , lastly , anatomy of the spirit .
Oh good , wonderful , Wonderful , wonderful . I love that . Thank you for sharing . So , just to go over , you offer in person and online sessions . All right , perfect , wonderful . Well , this ends our journey of the questions and I'm going to pass you over to our other guide , millie , who has some questions for social media for you .
So , millie , the floor is yours .
Thank you and thank you , sharon . That was . I was so impressed because you're taking your life's experiences and bring you know , merging a lot of that together , because I'm pretty sure you run across a lot of people in a similar situation with almost every session and that's that experience is invaluable .
I also commend you that you have your family your husband and your daughter , you know supporting you , because that is one of the things that comes up frequently is that you know my family doesn't understand what I do . I'm out there , you know , building a new community , building a new network , doing this , and I wish that wasn't the case .
And I just feel that , you know , when people have that loving support and people are taking advantage of it , it just makes us even more engaged and more powerful in this field . So , thank you , that's beautiful .
So again , we , we at Ready Set Reiki we ask that you know our listeners be active with us and we take social media questions , so they submit the questions and Tracy reads them and boils them down from our website to three . So sometimes we get others that we want to include there as well .
So the first one I have for you is how long did it take for you to be confident in doing your Reiki sessions .
Well , first off , I did a ton of practice with my teacher and then out of class when I was going through my training , and then I didn't charge people for probably about three months and just had a ton of friends who would come over and I'd be like , let me work on you , and they're like I want to try this out .
So I would say , from certification to practicing , I have six months , maybe tops . Yeah , I tried not to get too focused on external validation , Like how was that for you ? Did you feel this ? Did you feel this ?
Like just let it like again , you know , as as Tracy said , like just kind of trusting the process , right , I would see their eyes closed , they would get really relaxed and they kind of , like you know , wobble off the table , right , so I would know something happened . They couldn't always put words to it , but don't get so hot up on the outcome .
Just allow yourself to relax and let the energy kind of flow through as you're working on the signs Beautiful .
I really appreciate that . So , because I know that we have a lot of new students and I'm going to highly recommend that they listen to this broadcast podcast because that's some , that's some really great down to earth advice . You know , practice , practice , practice . And also , you know , let the results speak for themselves .
Don't , don't , don't push it , don't give them words in their mouth , don't give them thoughts in their head . Just let them , you know , take their experience and work with it . Thank you , you're welcome . Yes , okay . So the second one I have is I have been a practitioner for about a year .
Do you have any advice on how to handle potential clients who ask for discounts or try to negotiate your price for a session ?
Yes , this is something that I've encountered , and what's funny about it is it's less about what you're going to say to them At first . It's more about how you feel about doing it and how you value it . So , how do you value the session ? And then , what is the language that you're using to communicate it ?
So if you're kind of iffy on your practice and you're like , well , why are they asking me for discounts ? That's going to flow from you , right ? Because you're iffy on it . So first I would say get it , get in tuned here . Do you believe that you are delivering value ? Do you believe that you are helping these individuals ? Right , that's the first thing .
The second is really honing in on the client's challenge . So if the client's like , oh , I'm just making this up , I have stomach aches a lot , just be like . So what does it look like for you if you could not have stomach aches ? And if they say , well , that would be awesome and I could work more , and blah , blah , blah .
It's like paint the vision of what their experience is gonna look like after the session . You need to have them . You need to get them out of the price mindset and into the experience segment . Now , sometimes people think I've gotta talk a lot about me and what I do to get them to value it . It's actually opposite .
You've gotta talk more about what's going on with them and how this will help . It's not like well , I practiced and I'm a man . No one cares that I'm a reiki master . I care that I'm a reiki master . They care about how they're gonna feel . So , with how they're gonna feel , what is the appropriate pricing for that ?
Now , for a discount , what I've done in the past is referrals . Obviously someone will get a discount if they bring somebody else in .
The other thing is I've typically kept a few slots , maybe three slots for people that are they need sliding scale People where I'm like I do really really wanna work with them , and I'm gonna leave a couple of slots open for those folks . But I try not to do that too much because I don't wanna devalue myself in the process .
So I think for each individual it depends . It depends on what your financial situation is , depends on how much you wanna give upfront , but just remember that you don't wanna discount too much because it energetically connotes that somehow you don't value yourself . So hopefully that answers the question . It does it does .
Yeah , you have , your service has value and they need to appreciate that . So , as we do need to appreciate ourselves by offering it in that manner . And I have the third one here , which I love how do I prepare for a Reiki appointment ? So that's , I love that because that's coming from our practice side . So how do I prepare for a Reiki ?
appointment For a Reiki person , for the Reiki mask , for the person giving the Reiki or for the person receiving it .
I think it's for the person giving it is how I'm reading it .
I like to set an intention in the room that I'm gonna do the work in . I like to make sure that I have a cellar night crystal in my practice room because it really helps clear the energy . I try to really get into my body and relax before they come . So I might just like focus on getting my tailbone like on the seat , really concentrating on the seat .
If I'm feeling stressed I'll do like a somatic where I put my hands under my armpits and just kind of hold myself . It feels like a little hug Because sometimes I don't know who's gonna show up for a first time client .
So I just want to kind of resource and I want to set the room , the intention for the room , so that it's healing and that healing people come to my door . So I do a lot of intention setting . I just got a little angel tap . I just do a little intention setting and like maybe the word will be love , right , make sure . Yeah , I have a little process .
I don't ever go from like working on the computer right into a session and then when I close off the session which I think is just as important as receiving it after my client left the other day , I saged everywhere where he was and I opened the window to just kind of clear out yeah , not that he's bad or anything like that , but it's energy , right and so
we worked to kind of discharge some of it and clear it through the Reiki work . So I want that kind of out of my space because other people are gonna come in and then I will consciously disconnect from their energy even after they've left and just kind of sometimes I'll put my fingertips together to seal that it's closed .
I'm very porous as a healer so I pick up a lot of energy , which is challenging . Some people are not porous , but I'm very porous .
Wow , I like that analogy , though , about being porous what a sponge but so wonderful and really , from our hearts , we thank you for joining us today . This has been exciting to meet you and I wish you a lot of luck on your journey and not luck necessarily . You're putting in the hard work , so a lot of success . Success for those who are seeing you .
I'm enjoying your book Jenga Tower there . I've been the entire process looking at that tiny block in about a quarter of the way up going . Oh , I hope that makes it , is it pink ? There's a little block down towards the bottom . I think it's blue . It's resting there and I'm like she's got this .
Actually it's like a hidden shelf . It's so funny and people comment on it . I love it . I love it .
¶ Expressing Gratitude and Encouraging Mindful Choices
