Episode description

Frederick Burns is on the #ReadingWithYourKids #Podcast to celebrate his new illustrated chapter book called "And the Trees Talk Back". He discusses how the story is about a young girl who follows her cat into the woods and discovers that the trees can talk. One tree opens its eyes when she shines her flashlight on it, startling both of them. They have a friendly conversation where the tree shares it has been in the same spot for 150 years. Another tree interrupts and is less friendly towards humans. The girl works to befriend the other trees by listening to them and offering her help. Jed Doherty and Frederick Burns discuss how the book's themes of listening to different perspectives and finding common ground are especially relevant today.
