Episode description

As uprisings around the country forced people across industries to reckon with the ways racism in general and anti-Blackness in particular shows up, the music industry was no exception. As soon as Republic Records dropped “urban” as a category for music of Black origin, a conversation about the role of “urbano” in the Latin space began. This week, we are honored to have two of the people leading that conversation on the show: Jenny Mota and Gata (AKA Katelina Eccleston). We’ve had them both on the show before and we’re glad to have them again to talk about why we need to drop “urbano” and come up with an alternative.
