Episode description

European Lab Forum 2014 Europe Culture Refresh! 27-30 May 2014 Friday, May 30 - Storytelling - New festivals: a third generation reflecting todays project holders Speakers : Helga-Marie Nordby (Salt Festival I NO) / Laurent Garnier (Yeah! Festival I FR) Moderation : Wyndham Wallace (Journalist I UK) Since the first big American festivals of the 60s and 70s, festivals have always reflected the era in which they were born. In Europe, major festivals came about in the 70s and 80s, with the explosion of rock culture. In the late 90s and early 2000s, the emergence of the techno wave and the electronic revolution gave rise to a new generation of festivals – in the crowd at Sonar in Barcelona, more urban, connected and international events started to appear. In the mid 2010s, a third generation seems to have appeared, which does not correspond to a new aesthetic revolution, but rather brings a totally new perspective to festivals. What are their values? What do they have to say? And why do these new European project leaders throw themselves into the dangerous adventure of creating a festival?
