¶ Violent Incidents in Schools
Guys , welcome back to another episode of RED . It's the Everyday Podcast for the Everyday People and , as always , I'm your host , rashawn , happy to bring you guys all school news around the country . On episode 24 , we have a nice lineup of stories that are going to leave you speechless . So , without further ado , let's hop right into it .
The first story finds itself in my home state , new Jersey . Very , very particularly shocking . Students stabbed at Hackensack High School . A student is recovering after being stabbed at a Northern New Jersey high school Monday morning .
Police said the 18-year-old student was stabbed at Hackensack High School , located in Bergen County , and suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack . Hackensack Police Captain Michael Antista said the student received treatment from school officials before being transported to a local hospital .
According to Antista , the district went on to say that the incident prompted a shelter in place for the safety of students and staff . While the situation was investigated , a special law enforcement officer took another student into custody and connection to the incident and it is expected they will be charged in connection to the stabbing .
A different additional information was not available immediately in connection with this particular story .
Now around our area , hackensack is considered to be a quiet little town , humble , modest and this little suburban northern area of New Jersey , but now here to find that there are stabbings going on and that very quiet , modest town of Hackensack that is an area of concern for parents .
We wish you guys all the best , those who have been affected by the stabbing and the victim especially , a well and speedy recovery . I know that New Jersey hospitals can be quite jank in connection with handling emergency situations . Here's our follow-up story One juvenile charged for allegedly firing gun in Laney High School bathroom .
Now this is an update in connection with an incident that happened on Monday .
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office has charged one juvenile student with Monday's incident at Laney High School possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime , weapons in a school building , grounds or functions , criminal damage to property and first degree interference with government property and theft by receiving stolen property .
We're going now to Georgia . The Richmond County Sheriff's Office responded to calls of gunshots at Lucie C Laney High School Monday . Investigators say at least one gunshot was fired in a restroom inside the school . Deputies reviewed video evidence inside the school leading them to locate and detain the two students they say are responsible for the gunfire .
A Richmond County School system . Police officer was able to locate one student that was believed to be involved , as well as a gun . Another student was located with a knife . According to Laney High Principal , dr Cordero Middleton , both students will be formally charged and the incidents will be addressed by the Richmond County Student Code of Conduct and Discipline .
No further information in connection with this incident Now . I'm not sure as to what prompted this individual to shoot the gun off in the bathroom .
I'm not sure as to what the motive was in connection with this story , other than the fact that someone's life has been ruined because now you have a record , or , if you had a record previously , another something else on your record in connection with your future as a student .
You know , my advice , guys , to you as students is to continue to absorb as much as you can in connection with education , because you're only in your teenage years once , and teenagers today tend to take that for granted . I personally am not against the teenage community , but I do hope and want you guys to succeed in whatever you choose to do .
I'm not saying that you have to be , you know , something super crazy . You know you don't have to , you know , be boring , as it were , or die down on things that you would like to do , but think about your future .
Think about how these things are going to affect you , your future and possibly those who you claim to love and care about , because your choices do indeed affect their lives as well . Here's another story that clearly displays how that can be possible . Parents say construction worker performed LUD Act at Cramerton Middle School , north Carolina .
A construction worker is accused of performing a LUD Act at a middle school within view of students . Parents say the construction worker was part of a crew that had been working on campus for about a month to repair and renovate the school's roof . Parents told local news authorities the worker performed a lewd act .
Some eighth graders were able to see what happened from their classroom window and recorded a video . The principal said the company the crew worked for was informed about what happened and so was the school's resource officer . The company and police are collaborating to address the worker's behavior . Police said the construction worker was under the age of 18 .
The worker is no longer allowed on school grounds , the principal said . The Smith said his 14-year-old daughter saw the worker lie down on the roof and exposed himself in clear view of students in nearby classrooms with windows . She said the teacher told students they were mistaken about what they were seeing . She recorded a video and sent it to him .
He didn't see it until after she sent a text that he explained like this she was freaking out because of us coming to get her , because the cops have her phone and she's afraid she's going to get in trouble . He told local news authority he saw the video after he read his daughter's urgent text . He said police looked at the video to identify the suspect .
Police investigated the case , said they are pursuing juvenile charges against the teenage construction worker . Additional sources have added that people are upset with the company and in connection with the youth that was hired to work for this construction company .
Here's my thing in connection with that yes , the teenager who was working for this particular company did get involved in a lewd act . He literally got on the roof of the school , building the roof and lay down , expressed himself to the kids , knowing they could see him across the way .
It's not the company's fault that one of their workers chooses to use their free will in connection with their rights . There is no way for a company to predict if a worker is going to keep their senses or lose their mind simply because they work for that particular company or because the company has good moral value or standards .
There's just no way for the company to be accountable for the fact that their workers have decided to abuse their free will . We'll follow any updates in connection with that story , but for the students who had to see that , these eighth graders , it was and it will be a very difficult road moving forward , very , very disturbing .
Here's our next story Philadelphia police investigate fight caught on video at Franklin Town Charter High School . Philadelphia police are investigating a video circulating the internet of a fight that broke out at a high school in the city's Bridesburg section .
Police say they responded to an incident at Franklin Town Charter High School on the 5300th block of Takany Street around 2pm Friday . According to investigators , a 16-year-old male who does not attend the school , arrived on campus just after dismissal time and was assaulted by several students .
Medics took the teen to St Christopher's Children's Hospital where he received treatment from minor cuts , bruises and a possible concussion . He said the teen has since been treated and released from the hospital . Additionally , a video has been circulating the internet of the fight . The footage shows what appears to be two teens being brutally beaten .
Police say they are aware of the video and are investigating it further . No charges have been announced at this time . The saddest thing about this , in connection with this particular incident , is that members of the community are speaking out and they feel that this is something that is just unacceptable .
They are worried about the overall security of the school systems , and I agree 100% . It's not for some schools , especially when you're dealing with the Board of Education . It's not their priority .
If they can be able to get away with calling the school secure and saving as much of a budget as they possibly can , then they're going to do that , and it's not always to say because they're doing this because they are greedy or want to hold the money for themselves .
Sometimes they just don't have the budget to give the schools exactly what they need , and that's the sad cycle and circle that these school districts find themselves in each and every day Very , very tragic . We wish the victims involved in this particular story a well recovery and that you guys are able to continue to move forward past this trauma .
Our next story leads this way Pleasanton . Parents demand action after a student fight caught on camera . This is another just gruesome , gruesome attack here . Parents in Pleasanton are demanding action after a video showing a violent fight between two middle schoolers was posted on social media .
The video showed a middle school girl throwing a classmate to the ground at a local library , then hitting and stomping on her head as another kid cheers . This has to stop before a child is seriously hurt , said Pleasanton resident Gazelle Beliakov . Beliakov told NBC Bay Area Thursday that she was horrified when her daughter showed her the video .
She later posted the video on the next door app to raise awareness and she spoke out at Tuesday's city council meeting . The spokesperson for the Pleasanton Unified School District said violence will not be tolerated , though the incident took place across the street from Pleasanton Middle School , outside the city's public library . Administrators are taking action .
City leaders said a joint meeting between the city and school board will take place in April . The plan is to keep student altercations like the one of this particular incident that has gone viral , to deter things like that from happening . No further information in connection with this story .
I know that the city council and the board may have their best interests at heart , but in order to deter school fighting , seeking discipline against the students may not always be the best thing possible when it comes to school discipline . Attacking the parent , going towards the parent as your means of rooting out the problem . That's the foundation .
That's the foundation . It starts at the top . It starts with management . If management isn't going to do their part , then when it comes time to show the actions , the kids are not going to do it because they know that there's no one following up at home and no one shows care for these kids at home .
They are more liable to get into these altercations at school and that's the sad thing about it . There are times when the parents are doing their parts at home and that's fine and dandy and that's good . Sometimes they do their part and the kids still go out and they act rogue , as it were .
However , there are some cases in which students are not getting that satisfaction in training at home and it really causes mayhem in the entire school system . We hope that these middle schools are able to deal with their problems a little bit more chilled next time , for lack of better words .
When you think about how young they are fighting in this video , fighting it out , as it were it just makes you sick to your stomach learning violence at such a young age . No , of course there's nothing wrong with defending yourself should there be a real problem .
But you always want to give care that you're not teaching your child to be unnecessarily violent during times when they can be able to protect themselves and prevent further issues from occurring . Our following story is just a nice transition in that same topic 13 year old girl assaulted by three women at Vancouver Middle School , vancouver Washington .
A 13 year old girl was assaulted by three women at Jason Lee Middle School on Friday . According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office , around 4pm deputies were called out to Jason Lee Middle School after a fight had been reported , including parents and students in the school entrance parking lot .
When deputies arrived , several Vancouver Public School security officers were on scene and the alleged involved parties had been separated . The suspected attackers were reported to have left shortly after the incident . Authorities say it happened after two students were involved in a disagreement and family members got involved .
The Clark County Sheriff's Office says the fight broke up just before 4pm on Friday . They say the adult family members of one student initiated the fight against a 13 year old girl . They say this came after several days of a disagreement and potential threats between the two students .
It was during school pick up time that the mother of one of the students , another female relative and another woman got into the fight with the student . They were also trespassed from school grounds .
¶ School Incidents and Parental Responsibilities
Shanta Steward told Fox 12 on Tuesday that the parents of the other student had allegedly threatened her daughter , brooklyn , the day before the fight , accusing her of bullying their daughter and saying they wanted to beat her up . But Steward said the school administration told her that it was a case of mistaken identity .
She says school staff had said they would increase security to protect her daughter . But the next day the altercation happened during pick up time . Steward said her daughter had hair pulled out and scratches and cuts on her face . She says she's afraid to let her go anywhere .
She transferred Brooklyn to a new school and says the school administration adjacently and authorities didn't do enough to protect her child . There was an attempt to contact Ryeisha and Ozgeray Jackson multiple times but there was no response . These are the two ladies involved in the incident .
The Card County Sheriff's Office also has been reached out to to see if they are still attempting to find the third woman involved in the altercation , but they have not given a response . This is often the tragedy that befalls parents and individuals .
For this individual here , brooklyn , who had to meet this untimely aggressive beating , we do want to send you well wishes and best recovery .
In connection with , I know your mom , mrs Steward here , is frustrated because when you go through the proper channels and you try to talk to the school and get things done , sometimes they give you the run around and the sad thing about the run around is it really doesn't work out for anyone's benefit , especially the victim .
They have yet to find out who this third woman was that attacked this 13 year old girl , but we are hoping that they are able to sort this matter out as soon as possible because if they don't it could end up happening a second time . Here's our next story . Two teens are rested after loaded guns drugs found in car at Deerfield Beach High School .
Two teens are facing charges after loaded firearms , loaded magazines and illegal narcotics were found inside a car in the parking lot at Deerfield Beach High School Monday official said .
Broad Sheriff's Office officials said the discovery was made just after 2pm , shortly before student dismissal Officials said a Broad County Public School security specialist noticed a person asleep in a running car in the school's parking lot and contacted her supervisor .
The supervisor searched the vehicle , located a handgun inside a backpack and immediately contacted the BSO School Resource Deputy . Deputies found two firearms and several loaded magazines , along with drugs , which included MDMA , mushrooms and cannabis . Bso officials said A photo released by BSO showed the items found in the car .
There were no known threats to the school and no injuries . Officials said Two 17-year-old suspects one attends the school and one who doesn't were detained . Bso said they were later charged with possession of a weapon on school property , possession of MDMA and possession with intent to sell , manufacture or deliver THC .
In court Tuesday it was revealed that the teens lived together and the suspect , who does not attend Deerfield Beach High School , said he lives in Broad County and attends school online . The non-DBHS student is staying with the other because he told the judge he was recently kicked out of his house .
Since that is the case , the judge did not place a no-contact order between the teens . Both will be back in court on February 5th . That was last week . Moving further in connection with this story , other than the sadness that befalls teenagers when they are neglected by their parents , we don't know the circumstances around why he was thrown out of his home .
I know me . I come from an old school environment , so if you can't abide by your parents' rules , then reasonably , you have overstaged your welcome . This could be a case of that , or it could be a case of parental negligence . Sometimes parents have children out of one night stands and they just don't want to deal with them anymore .
That's the sad outcome that most teenagers , or some teenagers , have to deal with today . There are a good amount enough amount of teenagers today who have to deal with parents who just don't want to adhere to the responsibilities of having a teenager or child around .
I think that I just find it to be interesting , to say the least , because it's really not on the child , it really falls back on the parent how they decided to show and display love for a child that they created . Here's our next story Student detained after bringing gun to Myrtle Beach Middle School .
District says South Carolina Horry County Schools confirmed a student brought a gun to Myrtle Beach Middle School on Tuesday morning . A school resource officer with the Myrtle Beach Police Department was told that a student had a gun inside the school , according to the police department . Police said the SRO contacted the student and found the gun .
During the incident , myrtle Beach Middle School entered a hold protocol . This means that the hallways were cleared , students and staff were asked to remain in a room or office , close and lock doors and have classroom activities continue as usual . Myrtle Beach Police detained the student and the district said he will be held accountable for his actions .
The district said that all students and staff were safe , that the police department added that additional officers will be at the school as the investigation continues . Police added that an advisory was sent to parents to notify them that a gun was found on school campus .
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843-918-1382 . I wonder what it could be that would possess these kids to bring guns to school , but then again , for some that might sound like a really stupid question . If I had to put my finger on it , I would say bullying .
Bullying is the number one cause for a child to want to bring a weapon into school . The saddest thing about it is you can't prevent the bullies . You can't prevent the bullies . You can't prevent the firearms , or can you ?
Well , if the firearms can be prevented , there's a lot of catching up to do , because that is constantly a reoccurring theme on our show children bringing weapons into school and it really compromises those who are innocent , who have nothing to do with the victim or the bullying that goes on in connection with these weapons .
This next story I thought was on the humorous side . I know it's not funny for the person who is on the opposing end of this heinous act , but it is humorous for me because parents really have to do better in connection with these kids . Middle school asks parents for help as students terrorize Shaw's grocery store .
Massachusetts Middle School sent a letter to parents on Monday asking them for help as dozens of students have been terrorizing a local grocery store on days when they are dismissed from class early , getting forts out of paper towels and toppling displays .
Educators said Over the weekend I was contacted by the director of Shaw's Market , who shared alarming information regarding a troubling trend involving our middle school students who visit Shaw's on half days . Madway Middle School principal , amanda Louise , wrote in an email to parents .
Educators said about 100 students have been visiting Shaw's at 65 Main Street on half days , wreaking havoc inside the store as customers tried to shop . It was reported that a growing number of students are engaging in disruptive behavior while visiting the store .
This includes building forts out of paper towels , riding in carriages and electric carts , knocking over displays and even stealing merchandise . Louise wrote . These actions pose a risk to the students involved and customers of Shaw's . They also reflect poorly on our school community . Shaw's strives to provide all of our customers a safe and welcoming shopping experience .
Louise stressed in the letter to parents that it's important that students act respectfully when in public and act them to speak with their children . As of Tuesday , shaw's said it had not implemented a ban on students entering its medway store . Perfect example of parents allowing their children to go buck wild .
What if Shaw's decides to bring in a shotgun one day ? He has nothing to lose . He's on the edge of life . He doesn't care about jail . He takes that shotgun inside the cocket and shoots one of those kids dead in the face . I don't think it will matter at that point what you didn't do as a parent . The damage is done .
Do what you can now , parents , to help your children grow to the best responsible adult they can be , because this road , this path that they're on , this disrespect that they have for this little local grocery store , it is a sign of the potential for bigger problems and bigger dangers in the very near future .
At this point , if these students are engaging in this nonsense , they're obviously not in fear of their parents . Certain things I just wouldn't do because I knew if someone called my mother , I was dead .
For these children to be engaged in these activities , to run wild like chickens with the heads cut off , shows the lack of respect that they have for their parents . It's going to be a wild ride for you guys in Massachusetts . We wish you guys all the best . From the podcast of RED , here's our next story .
Two Warren Middle School students face criminal charges . Warren , michigan . A sixth grader middle school student cut . Go back one more time completely . Three two Two Warren Middle School students face criminal charges . Michigan . A sixth grade middle school student was found with a death list in her notebook on Monday .
According to police , a teacher at Carter Middle School found the female students list with 14 names on it , so the Warren police commissioner , built wire . The last 24 hours there have been two incidents relating to student safety at two Warren Middle Schools . The second incident , also on Monday , occurred at Chatterton Middle School in Warren .
That involved a 13-year-old male who had a fight in the school yesterday and made a threat that he's coming back today with a gun . Dwyer said that student was arrested and taken into custody . According to police , investigators confiscated a loaded 9mm handgun from the boy's home . Both middle school students are facing criminal charges .
Some police say they have no choice but to take every threat seriously . No further information in connection with this story . Yeah , I agree 100% with the police here in Michigan . If you don't take the threat seriously and someone gets killed , that's definitely on the police department .
The victims of these families are not going to want to hear hey , by the way , my daughter , my son , you took a risk . And now my daughter , my son , they've lost their lives . No one's going to want to hear that . I know that today a lot of children like to play that way , even some kids on my bus .
I tell them that's nothing to play with because it will cost you your life . We don't know as to what's going to happen to these two juveniles . These are young kids . These are young ones that are just being locked up and taken away just because of just verbal abuse and threats to people and in their school system .
Our follow-up story Vermont police increased presence after a large fight unfolds inside middle school . This is the episode from middle schools . Apparently this is Vermont , nebraska . Vermont police are investigating after a large fight broke out at Vermont middle school . Video shows several students throwing punches with staff trying unsuccessfully to break it up .
One concerned parents said they kept their daughter home from school and planned to until students are under control . Around 700 seventh and eighth graders attend from Vermont middle school . The superintendent said Monday's fight broke out before school in the gym and said students involved are facing consequences .
But one mother , who acts does not to identify her , wonders if there's more that needs to be done . Video recorded inside Vermont middle school Monday shows four different fights unfolding inside the gym . This mother , who acts not to be identified , said her daughter was in the gym as the fights broke out . The fight broke out just after 7.55 am on Monday .
The police department said it added extra officers at the school Tuesday , but stressors' officers' presence is already enhanced in the morning and afternoon every day . The school district says student safety is the priority , vermont schools said .
After the fight a social media rumor made rounds relating to the students involved bringing knives and guns to school tomorrow to settle the issue .
Later in the afternoon and into the evening social media began to discuss the event at the middle school and several rumors began to surface related to the students involved bringing knives and guns to school tomorrow to settle the issue . That was the school's statement in connection with the rumors .
The saddest thing that I find with this particular story is just the amount of hatred and violence that you've seen in connection with this video . For those of you who are tagged in through YouTube Shorts , catch my full video Fridays at 5 to be able to see what's going to happen or how this incident really took off .
There's nothing that can be done when it comes to these young ones today . I know that many of them are deprived , and so I don't know as to what parents are going to need to do , or when they're going to do it , to turn things around in their child's life . But this was a very intense video . You guys .
Let me know what you think in the comments in connection with these stories that we've considered tonight thus far .
¶ Teacher Gives Candy, Students Become Ill
Our follow up story former substitute teacher gives candy to students at Pleasant Lane Elementary School during recess 13 students . Ill Petersburg , virginia , after a former long term substitute teacher drove to Pleasant Lane Elementary School and Petersburg and gave fifth grade students pre-packaged candy during recess without permission .
13 students have experienced illness , including stomach ache and vomiting . A spokesperson for Petersburg Public Schools said the incident occurred during the afternoon on Monday , february 5 .
According to a message sent to parents by Camille Williams , the school's principal , the former substitute distributed pre-packaged Valentine's Day chocolate candy to students before leaving the property . Shortly after consuming the candy , more than a dozen students experienced illness , including stomach ache and vomiting .
All affected students were promptly seen by the school nurse and their parents were contacted In response . Police said the incident was not criminal in nature . The spokesperson for Petersburg Public Schools said the division has immediately launched an investigation to determine how this individual gained access to our students and distributed the candy .
Nothing further in connection with this story . Now , that's very tricky and a bit sneaky and sinister . Of course , the school is working in connection with law enforcement to be able to find out what happened and how the individual gained access to these students . On a personal level , though , parents can sue if they want to go that route , but it's crazy .
I mean , these are the things that I'm talking about . Parents teach your children that , when it comes to taking things from persons outside of the home , that they should be very careful not to do so , or if they take it , to bring it home so that you can thoroughly examine it .
I'm not going to sit here and brag about my parents and the upbringing and the blah , blah , blahs . Some people are fanatics when it comes to their parents and how they were raised , but I will say my parents had street smarts . They were very careful in connection with what I took , what I consumed and whom it was coming from .
If this is a former substitute teacher , parents should have been aware of this . They should have known so , and so was not teaching at the school anymore . And so it's very sad because now these elementary kids are dealing with stomach aches , vomiting , which at this point we don't know what the cause is .
All we can do is wish you guys the best in connection with this story . We love you guys and we just want your kids , your students , to be safe in a very wicked and dark world that we live in . Here is our final story of episode 24 .
I thought this story was particularly just beautiful because it just takes all of that rough news , all of those rough stories that we've taken and all of this gun and shooting and crime this week and just compile it into something just sweet and beautiful . Here we go , guys . He's a hero . He is a hero indeed .
Teen credited with helping Thwart school shooting at his Ohio high school , cincinnati , ohio . An Ohio student is being held a hero for helping Thwart a school shooting that was allegedly plotted by his classmate at this high school in Ohio . The teen's dad says , despite threats on his son's life , his 15-year-old son did the right thing .
Swallon says his son Boom wasted no time earlier this week when he told him that his classmate had revealed a plan to shoot people at Merrimond High School near Cincinnati . The swift action was definitely warranted and I'm grateful that my son reached out , swallon said . Investigators say that classmate allegedly planned to kill eight students and a teacher .
It was an obvious threat . There is no doubt that this was going to occur , said Melissa Powers , the Hamilton County prosecutor . Authorities say text messages reveal the would-be shooter was conspiring with an adult who was out of state . The teen suspect allegedly texted I need them dead really soon . The adult allegedly responded I got you , bro .
Police say the teen responded can you do tomorrow ? Swallon says his son saw the teen's plan on paper and told him Tuesday . The next day the teen was arrested and is now accused of conspiracy to commit aggravated murder . Swallon says the suspect had threatened Boom if he told anyone about the plan , but that didn't stop Boom from doing the right thing .
He literally told me he didn't care if he got killed , just as long as he was able to protect his classmate . Swallon said People say the adult who was texting with the suspect was texting from a Colorado area code . They wouldn't say if that person has been arrested . As for the accused teen , the prosecutor is asking for him to be tried as an adult .
Nothing further in connection with our last story of the evening . Wow , sir man , that is just quite the heroics for someone to take matters into their own hands even though their own life is in jeopardy . But today people just don't reason like that man .
If that was the average person , don't worry about it , I'm not going to say anything and they'll understand , because they were going to kill me . But he was willing to sacrifice himself for his friends and faculty at the school . That is really a beautiful , beautiful note .
Guys , as always , it has been an honor to be here with you guys each and every week , with you guys , strong Tuesdays at 5 o'clock . Love , love , love , love I'm hearing from you guys , appreciate your comments and feedback on these stories .
