¶ School Tragedies
Guys , welcome back to another episode of RED . It's the everyday podcast with the everyday people and this week , as always , we're bringing you all things school news . We have a very interesting and heartfelt lineup this particular week and we're going to get right down into it . Thank you so much for the subscriptions .
Really appreciate all of you guys joining us here catching up with these particular stories . Here's our first one . This is a follow-up story from a story that was covered last week regarding a Barrington High School student . Emotional vigil held for Barrington High School student fatally struck by train .
Friends of a Barrington High School student spoke during an emotional vigil held Friday to remember the 17-year-old girl who was fatally struck by a train on her way to school . The incident happened around 7.45 am , thursday at the Union Pacific Railroad train tracks in the area of Main Street and Ho Street in Barrington .
Marin Laxen , 17 of Barrington , was attempting to walk across the railroad crossing when she was struck by a metro train . A candlelight vigil was held Friday evening at Barrington Campus Life Center in Barrington . Friends and community members packed the building full during the event .
Numerous friends of Laxen , several of whom were crying , spoke out in remembrance of her . One friend said she had played on many different teams with Laxen , who always managed to make others feel like they were playing really good , even if they were not .
She just always knew how to make people feel welcome and if you were like alone , she'd like come up to you , make friends with you , the friend added . Another friend said Laxen loved everyone around her and she was so nice to everyone .
Kyle Kinneman told Lake and McHenry County scanner he was the one who called 911 to report the collision between Laxen and the train . To the families of the Laxen family involved in this tragedy we want to express our heartfelt condolences . Losing someone in death is a tragedy like no other .
It is a pain that grips you and just destroys you from the inside out , and the sad thing about it in particular is that you have no control over the circumstances surrounding this individual's death . You have no means of comfort immediately , but as time progresses things do get better .
Continue to reach out to well-meaning friends , continue to be patient with those who love you and care about you , and always remember that you guys have family and support in this podcast , someone that you can turn to and express just how much she meant to you , your family and , of course , her friends , her schoolmates , who attended school with her .
Now this next story follows up in a very , very , very sad way . It's a follow-up story that I covered some several months ago on the podcast , last year actually .
It involves a particular teen going right into the home state of New Jersey , where I'm from , my home state , new Jersey , where I'm from and when this came back to my desk and I looked at the headline on this story , I said to myself this has to be shared .
This story has to be told because there are individuals in this story who are being affected and they're not really being heard . Family of NJ teen who died by suicide after school fight video soothes .
The family of a 14-year-old girl who died by suicide last year after video of other students viciously attacking her in a high school hallway was posted to social media is filing a civil lawsuit , alleging school administrators knew a culture of violence existed at Central Regional High School and failed to protect the teenager from his clutches .
Adriana Couch of Bayville was a freshman at the Berkeley Township High School when her family members found her dead by suicide on February , the 3rd 2023 . Two days earlier , she had been set upon in the hallway by a group of girls who kicked her , punched her and hit her in the face with a water bottle . Couch blacked out .
They recorded it and posted it online . Couch's father , michael Couch , believes bullying drove his daughter to take her own life and previously eviscerated the school for not calling the police after the attack . The school said it did call the police in line with district policy , but that it doesn't always pursue charges .
Michael Couch says taking his injured daughter to the school nurse was insufficient . In the aftermath of Couch's death , video surfaced of other bullying incidents at Central Regional High School . A video from 2022 showed a girl with her arm in a sling because of a shoulder injury during a wrestling match getting attacked .
That student's mother said she had to send her daughter to an out-of-ditch school after her attackers were suspended for 10 days . In another attack from the same year , the victim again had to be transferred out afterward .
The lawyer for that family has said video of the incident immediately went up on social media with the intent to harass and intimidate Michael Couch's lawsuit , which names the Central Board of Education , school superintendent , school principal and anti-bullying specialists and other school officials as defendants , alleges administrators were not only aware of harassment ,
intimidation and bullying and the video recordings and social media posts on the attacks . They failed to address threats posed by students and compliance with the New Jersey anti-bullying statute . They also allegedly failed to investigate the threats in a timely and appropriate manner , the complaint says , and to shield Couch from the abuse .
Those failures and oversight , michael Couch claims , led to his daughter's public humiliation and ultimate suicide . The lawsuit was filed Monday in the Superior Court of New Jersey Ocean County . Now , just for a moment , guys , we are going to allow you to be able to watch this footage in this particular video .
For those of you who are tagged into short , the full form video will be released Friday at 5 pm when episode 23 drops . But it is a gruesome video , to say the least . Notice the video . The footage itself lasts less than a minute .
It shows Kush walking down the hallway with her boyfriend as the kids recording the moment approached him going in the opposite direction . Suddenly , there's a quick moment from someone near the phone holder and pink liquid sprays out of a cup all over Kush .
She is then set upon by at least two people the video shows slammed into school lockers and surrounded by what is now a trio of attackers , she crumples on the floor . The three classmates , backpack swinging , fall over themselves a bit near the lockers , almost stepping on Kush as she crawls around on the floor trying to collect herself .
Then they start shoving her , dragging her almost along the ground on her knees , raking her against the red school lockers , the white soles of her shoes , the only part of her visible underneath her , attackers at various points . Then one girl grabs her by the hair .
The violent attack continues for another few seconds before two adults run into the video frame and pull the attackers off Kush . She is seen writhing on the ground , her hands holding either side of her head , as a man stands over her . He then helps the bruised and bloodied girl up the footage wraps .
Now , the saddest thing in connection with this particular video that I had to see was just the method in which this was carried out . She had no idea that this was going to happen . You see her walking with her boyfriend , you see her walking with her classmates , and the level of disrespect that is carried out in this video is ridiculous .
The footage is just humiliating and it really goes to show , just to highlight , just how much lack of respect these individuals had for this particular student . Now , of course , some may argue that this might be what she gets . That's what you hear one of the other students screaming in the video . This is what she gets . This is what she gets .
The sad part about it is no one deserves that type of treatment as a human being . If there are issues that happen , they need to be worked out , and I find it to be of interest that there is no other details in connection with how these attackers were dealt with .
We know that dad is going to press charges as best he can and there is a process behind that , but the sad part about it is , after all of this is said and done , whether justice is going to benefit this man or is he going to work against him and his family .
His daughter is gone forever , and the saddest part about it is you may not get that true peace and justice that you also desire and need and deserve . We wish you all the best , mr Cush , as you strive to make matters right , to get peace for you and your family , and we wish you guys all the best in connection with this story here .
Our follow up story is another graphic story , a one to be told in a very interesting manner . Very close to home city I was born in . But it's just some things you can never be prepared for . A North Arts High School cheerleader remains in critical condition Tuesday morning after she was struck by a hit and run driver .
The vehicle hit Sierra Jones 18th on Sunday night . Police are using video cameras in the area to learn more about the unknown driver who fled the scene . Police sources told local news authorities that they may be looking for a dark colored sedan .
Authorities say the hit and run happened after Jones and her classmates were being dropped off at the school around 10-15pm . The Jack's cheerleader team just celebrated a first place win at their cheer competition . When they returned and the bus stopped in front of the high school , jones started crossing the street in front of the bus .
That's when a car came around the bus and hit her . According to police , the bus driver said the lights on the bus were on and the stop sign was out , but the driver hit Jones , did not stop and just drove off . All of this happened in front of her teammate . Sources say Jones was unconscious and was rushed to University Hospital in critical condition .
One student told local authorities this is a difficult and upsetting situation . Another student said it's not surprising that this happened and it's really devastating that it happened to one of my fellow Jaguars . But it was kind of inevitable because we don't have any real safety , we don't have a traffic light and we don't have a stop sign here .
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the crash . Anyone with information should call 1-877-TIPS 4EC or 1-877-847-7432 . The crash still remains under investigation and authorities are looking for further information in connection with this incident . I know for a fact that Norik is one of the most horrendous places in existence to drive into , through or around .
The lack of respect that drivers carry out in that city in regard to another human's life is deplorable . This girl may not make it . This girl took a strong beat in Sierra Jones and we wish you a well and speedy recovery .
In connection with this story and we're so sorry that this had to be the outcome for someone else's carelessness and recklessness In this next story and we find ourselves dealing with another circumstance very familiar Las Vegas middle school student fights for a life after hit by a truck .
An 11-year-old boy is fighting for his life after his heartbroken mother said he was hit and run over by a pickup truck on his way to school . The crash happened at the intersection of Cactus Avenue and Cliff Lake Street , west of Rainbow Boulevard .
Holding on tight to her faith and just wanting to hear her son's voice again , the mother of Rayon , kim , did not want to be on camera or have her identity revealed . I miss my son , she said I'm scared . Rayon , who was the oldest of three , was riding his bicycle to Gunderson Middle School around 7.30 am on Tuesday , january 30 .
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said Rayon was riding his electric bicycle on the sidewalk of Cactus Avenue . That's when he was hit , thrown from the bike and run over by a pickup truck . Now Rayon is clinging onto his life , sustaining extensive injuries . He lost his right ear , skin and face , his mother said .
His mother added that Rayon also has fractures to his jaw , a brain hemorrhage and a broken left arm . She said enough is enough .
¶ Violence and Controversy in Education
The saddest thing in connection with this story that I find is that you never know when it might be the last time you relatively leave that house feeling a certain way , feeling good , or in what condition they may return home to you . Family members have started a GoFundMe page for Rayon , kim's surgery and road to recovery At last check .
More than $26,000 was raised . It will be a long journey , but the family tells me Rayon is a miracle . The GoFundMe page has grown exceptionally since I've last checked it Well over $26,000 . You can definitely be able to go on and donate .
It's one of those stories where it's unforeseen occurrence just going wrong , people not caring and having that love and respect that they used to have . That's just the saddest thing about it . It's really tragic . In these two stories with Sierra and Rayon , nobody wants to wait . Nobody wants to wait If you try to pursue these drivers or go out after them .
There is no true justice . This article or sources do not provide any details as to what happened to the driver that hit Rayon . Still haven't found the driver that hit Sierra . So it's one of those stories that just leaves you gripped with anger . But if they take their time , little by little , they can be able to come over these things .
The family can be able to receive comfort and we wish Rayon a well and speedy recovery . Mom , hang in there , continue to do the very best that you can show that love and support and things will get better day by day .
This follow up story here , going into the different elements of educational staff members , or education staff members , administrators , rather , and those persons who have these alternative lifestyles , how they're being treated and handled in other areas . Oklahoma Drag Queen Elementary School principal resigns amid outrage .
Officials say the Oklahoma Elementary School principal with a drag queen persona and who had previously faced child pornography charges has resigned . Shane Mernan , who performed drag shows under the alias Chantel Mandalay , submitted his letter of resignation as principal of John Glenn Elementary School to the Western Heights School District on Thursday .
State school superintendent Ryan Walters announced the drag queen is out of Western Heights . I've demanded it from day one , walters said in a video posted on X Friday . This is not what parents want for their kids . Murnin had served as principal at the elementary school in Oklahoma since June of 2023 .
The popular social media account Libs of TikTok initially exposed Murnin's alleged drag queen activities in August 2023 . A video of Murnin in a full drag surfaced of him reading children's books during a story at the Metropolitan Library System on June 15 , 2021 , was shared after his hiring , the outlet reported .
Library officials said a background search of Murnin's past was done before the event . Social media posts then surfaced alleging Murnin had previously faced child pornography charges . Shortly after his hiring , the Western Heights School District announced it was aware of previous charges that were dismissed more than 20 years ago .
Though the district did not explain the nature of Murnin's charges , users on social media began sharing local reports on an individual with the same name accused of looking at pornographic images of children under the age of 18 while teaching fifth grade at another Oklahoma elementary school . He resigned from his position before later re-entering the profession .
Following the backlash over his past , murnin broke his silence in an interview with Nondoc last September , saying he was receiving lots of hate , considering I've been the same person for 26 years doing the same thing . Murnin had also once applied to become a church minister in 2014 .
As the public became aware of Murnin's past and that the school administration was choosing to keep him on as principal , the district began receiving threats prompting them to hire extra security and instruct Murnin to work offsite most days . He was later put on paid administration leave which , according to the outlet , cost the district an additional $65,000 .
Walters called Murnin's resignation a necessary step to protect kids in Oklahoma . In his announcement Thursday , walters said he has launched an investigation into the district's hiring process . Parents today are often faced with a choice of whom is going to educate their children . Some people don't believe that parents have the right to educate their children anymore .
And I would say that parents do have the right to educate their children because they're the ones who brought them into this world in the first place , but legal laws wouldn't be able to trump that .
It's a very difficult gamble for parents when it comes to selecting education institutions for their children and determining where they're going to go , who they're going to be around and what they're going to learn , because the parents just want their children to learn . That's really the objective of sending their child to school .
And now their child has to be involved in all this hatred and propaganda and just the way others are being treated . Negativity brought into the learning environment . It makes it very difficult for parents to want to send their kids out to public schools .
We hope that the kids in Oklahoma are going to adjust well to these changes and that they can continue to focus on their studies as best they can . Moving forward . Here's our follow-up story . Gripping story , this next one PPD arrests two minors after altercation at middle school .
The Pleasanton Police Department who arrested two juveniles at Pleasanton Middle School on Thursday afternoon after an altercation took place where one of them allegedly assaulted a parent who tried to break up a fight in front of the school .
Ppd Lt Eric Salasi told the Weekly that police initially were responding to a reported battery involving two individuals who were in the drop-off pickup area of PMS . Salasi said that things escalated when the mother of one of them drove up to pick up her child .
The mom was picking up the daughter saw her involved in this altercation outside so she tried to intervene and she started getting hit by a friend of one of the other parties . After people broke them up , the two juveniles fled on foot .
After making contact with the mother and daughter , salasi said the officers found the two juveniles who fled on foot at a nearby resident . One was arrested on suspicion of felony assault and the other was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battering .
The mom and the daughter both did not end up going to the hospital and said they could take care of any medical issues on their own .
As for the two arrested , salasi said the one who was arrested for the felony assault was booked at Juvenile Hall , while the one taken into custody for misdemeanor battery was later released , because we don't book juveniles on misdemeanors generally , just because of the way the Juvenile System works .
The interesting thing you'll find in these particular stories is that there is a lot of aggression going on with teens today and I've talked about it . I know a kid today , young man , in my work environment , and he's so aggressive . There's just so much aggravation and frustration . Of course , this particular story is a bit out of context .
All we know is that the juveniles attacked the mom , or they were attacking mom's kid , rather and the mom jumps into , intervene and they begin attacking mom . We're not sure where this story started or progressed , so obviously we're not here to take sides in connection with this event , but the entire situation is sad .
You would hope the teens have some self-control or would be able to hold back a little bit when it comes to dealing with these matters , but oftentimes they don't and the consequences affect them , their lives and their future , and that's the saddest thing of all . In connection with these particular stories , here's our follow up .
New Hampshire Elementary School worker charged after allegedly assaulting two children In New Hampshire man was charged Thursday with assaulting two seven year old children at an elementary school two weeks after similar charges were filed against another worker at the school .
Manchester police said witnesses saw a 24 year old , william O'Connell , a behavior technician at Parker Varney Elementary School throw a seven year old boy to the ground , causing him facial injuries . Police said he also put a seven year old girl onto the floor in a hard manner but she wasn't injured .
The charges come after another behavioral worker was charged with assaulting a seven year old student at the same school in an unrelated incident . Both men worked for Applied ABC , a contracted private for the Manchester School District .
Police said O'Connell of Allentown turned himself in Wednesday evening after a warrant was issued for his arrest and he was charged with felony second degree assault and simple assault . It wasn't immediately clear if O'Connell had an attorney and his first arraignment wasn't scheduled until March 7th . He has been released on bail .
Another perfect example of how these teachers take matters into their own hands and throw them around . Now , of course , that may be one way this story played out , but another scenario could have played out is kids are seven years old , are a piece of work . That's never a reason to knock out a seven year old or throw him to the ground .
But a lot of people today are going through a lot of pressure and it can be difficult for them to hold back emotions and they sometimes let it out in the work environment . Unfortunately , though , there are consequences when these things happen . Here's our next story Correct employee for East Middle School charged with child sexual abuse activity .
A contract employee for East Middle School has been charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and child sexual abuse activity . Following an investigation by the Farmington Hills Police Department , andre Brown , 25 , a Wixom , was arrested on Friday , february 2 . Brown worked as a hall monitor , basketball coach and cross-country coach at the middle school .
While employed at the middle school , officials say Brown developed relationships with students and eventually became involved in and participated in conversation threads with students on Snapchat . The 25-year-old initiated a private chat with a 13-year-old girl in which he solicited inappropriate photos of the student .
The student brought Brown's conduct to the attention of a school counselor , who notified the Farmington Hills Police Department on Wednesday , january 31 , and a criminal investigation was initiated . Brown was charged with one count of child sexual abuse activity 20-year felony . One count of accosting a child for immoral purposes 4-year felony .
He was charged in 51 District Court , where a not guilty verdict was entered on his behalf . The following conditions were ordered for pretrial release $25,000 , 10% cash surety bond . No contact with minors . No contact with the victim . No social media must not return to East Middle School .
Investigators said they were concerned that other children may have had similar experiences with Brown . Nothing further in connection with this story other than the fact that we do wish you guys a speedy recovery , especially those who were victimized by this individual 25 years old .
When you think that you can trust someone in the school system and they turn out to be the exact opposite of what you think you can trust or what you know that you can trust , it's very sad and it's very unsettling for these kids today .
And then you have that situation where you have well-meaning persons , well-meaning administrators , teachers , staff who see the crime and see the heinous things happening in these schools , but they're powerless to do anything about it because they don't want to fall into that category of being accused of being a predator .
So now you find that teachers today are not as nice to students , they're not as friendly with students , because everyone is afraid and panicked and worried about their job .
We wish you guys a well-recovery and wixom and we hope that things do get rectified and that there is therapeutic techniques and areas and advantages you can take a hold of to be able to find comfort during these difficult times . Our next story reads this way Salina Middle School teacher arrested in connection to criminal investigation .
Another situation in Salina , kansas . A Salina school teacher was arrested on Monday in connection to a criminal investigation out of Newton . The Salina Police Department identified the teacher as Ryan Brun guard . Online information shows he is a social studies teacher at Lakewood Middle School in the Salina School District .
Newton police said investigators traveled to Salina to serve a search warrant on Brun guard's cell phone . They were looking for evidence of a felony crime . While in the office at Lakewood , police said Brun guard and officers began to struggle over his phone and the lithium battery was punctured , starting a fire .
The fire set off the alarm to the school , which led to the school being evacuated . Police said Brun guard was arrested and taken to the Saline County jail where he was booked on charges that include aggravated arson , aggravated robbery , battery on law enforcement officer and interference with a law enforcement officer .
Jail record show Brun guard was booked into the jail at 4.57 pm . The Salina Police Department believes there is no active threat to any student or facility at this time . If anyone has any additional information relative to this particular case , they are encouraging you to contact Crime Stoppers at 825-TIPS , you may receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 .
Tips to this may also contact the Salina Police Department at 785-826-7210 . So in these situations another situation in which teachers have completely gone wild . I don't remember my teachers having such baggage with them . I don't think that we ever had a case in which a teacher was arrested or got into an altercation with the police on school property .
I would say my transition through school was fairly easy compared to what these children have to go through today . We know that this is unsettling , especially for students who learned a lot from this teacher who cared about this teacher . Take it one day at a time .
That may seem repetitive , but a lot of the times we , as humans , bring anxiety to ourselves , we add pressure to ourselves and we really try to take things onto our plate that are not in our control . So sometimes you just have to breathe a little bit , analyze the situation and do the very best that you can regarding the situation .
Here's our next story Very , very interesting how some students decide to deal with the pressures that they're undergoing .
¶ Teen Arrested for School Shooting
Student arrested after allegedly shooting , running over someone in the Connolly High School parking lot , austin Texas . A 17 year old Connolly High School student has been arrested after he allegedly shot and ran over someone in the school's parking lot on Monday .
According to an affidavit obtained by police , there was a respond to a call that someone had possibly been shot and someone had possibly been hit by a car in the school's parking lot just before 12.30 PM on Monday .
Students were unable to locate the victim at the scene , but they did find the 911 callers , who said the victim had gone to the hospital but was on the phone with his brother who was in the school's front office . Police spoke to the victim over the phone and then followed up with him at the hospital .
The victim told police that he was on the Connolly campus to have lunch with a friend . When the suspect , vince Wen , called him over to his car and allegedly told him you're done for displaying a gun toward him . The victim told police Wen had an AK-47 lying on his lap and a small handgun in his possession .
When the victim grabbed the gun and moved it away from himself , he said Wen stepped on the gas . The victim then allegedly fell to the ground and was run over . Parents at the school said they were shocked by the news . Marlon Rivas said his nephew hasn't felt safe at the school for a while .
According to the affidavit , the victim told police he knew Wen because he had dated Wen's girlfriend's best friend . Flood cameras captured video of Wen's car leaving Connolly at the time of the incident , allowing police to locate him at his home and arrest him .
Wen has been charged with a felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon , a felony count of theft of firearm and a misdemeanor count of unlawful carrying of a weapon . The affidavit states that the victim did have a gunshot wound on his left shoulder and several cuts on his body from being drugged by the vehicle .
His condition at this time is unknown . First off , we want to wish you a well and speedy recovery and hope you rest and get a little peace of mind . This situation that occurred with Mr Wen highlights how desperate and aggressive and just fears these young people are today . This doesn't just affect Wen and his family . This affects another person's family .
You'll find that in other places it's easier for children , teens , to get weapons and wreak havoc on certain circumstances . It's not easy to feel safe in the school environment . It's not easy to feel safe on the street for some . So what can you do ? Take preventative measures , walk in groups . Try to be able to get to know what goes on in your high school .
Stay away from the drama . Don't provoke people unnecessarily . Try your best to do what's necessary for you to protect yourself because in these incidences the ones who are the victims who get hurt , ran down or killed that brings pain to your family . If you survive the attack , you have pain physically but emotionally .
Parents who worry about their kids , who worry friends in school . It brings a great deal of emotional pain to certain person's lives . Here's our follow up story here Three teams to remain in juvenile detention after Hickory Hills Assault . This is Greene County .
Three teams charged after an assault on another student at Hickory Hills School will remain in juvenile detention . Two teams are being held in Greene County while the third student remains with authorities in Christian County .
Juvenile detention cut go back and three two Juvenile division in Christian County says per law jurisdiction is determined by three factors One , where the incident occurred . Two , the minor's residence . And three , if the minor is already in the custody of another county .
Derek Moore , the parent of the middle schooler attacked last week , says his family is thankful for the rulings Based on what we learned over the last week or so . This isn't the first time that assault happened in a very brutal manner by the defendant , said Moore . We felt that it was best that they should remain in custody at this time .
Moore says his daughter , presley , is recovering from a traumatic incident . Moore says students involved in the attack against his daughter have been part of previous physical altercations . It's gut-wrenching , it's horrible .
I've been sent multiple videos from other parents that their kids were also victims of an attack at school , including an attack from the one of the defendants . Moore said they take sheer rage to stomp somebody's face repeatedly until they're knocked out cold . That's not okay . It's time that we stand up . Moore says bullying has progressively increased over time .
Springfield Public School officials have already spoken to Ozark's first when their story was first reported on January 19 . They say , according to the district handbook , they'll see how the legal process plays out . Then the students could be subjected to two weeks of an out-of-school suspension and the district officials can meet to impose a harsher sentence if needed .
The two teen girls currently held in Green County will remain in detention until their pre-trial hearing on March 4 . The teen girl being held in Christian County will be in detention until their pre-trial hearing on February 1 . Moving further in connection with this story . No updates have come to us in connection with this particular story .
Today is February 6 , so maybe for next week's episode there will be some follow-up information in connection with what's going on here . Here's our follow-up story Three Cheong High School students shot one fatally near Edgewater Neighborhood School .
A Cheong High School student was killed and two Moore were injured near the school Wednesday afternoon , less than a week after two students were killed outside a charter school in the loop . Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling confirmed the shooting occurred just after 3.30 pm and the 1200 block of West Thorndale Avenue , just blocks away from Cheong's campus .
The students , who were all 15 or 16 years old , were walking in that area when a vehicle pulled up . Individuals got out and fired shots , striking all three . According to Snelling , police said the boy who died was 16 years old . He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest .
A second , 16-year-old was shot in his jaw , chest and left forearm and was listed in grave condition . Third victim , a 15-year-old boy , was hospitalized in good condition . The shooting comes days after Robert Boston , 16 , and Materiel William , 17 , were fatally shot near Innovations High School last Friday afternoon .
Police officials have said those boys were targeted as they exited the charter school building , but no arrests have yet been made . According to Snelling , there is no evidence these two shootings were connected .
No further information in connection with this particular story , other than we want to express our deep condolences for the person who were killed in connection with the shooting . The shootings that young people have to deal with today , the environment that they have to grow up in . It's tragically sad and it's one of the things that you can't necessarily prevent .
Sometimes in those matters , a little more pressure needs to be put on parents . Student Father Arrested RPGs Found After Threat to Rancho Bernardo High School . A high school student and his father were arrested after police served a search warrant in response to the teen threatening to shoot up Rancho Bernardo High School .
San Diego Police confirmed that the Rancho Bernardo High School campus is safe and it was swept for any explosive devices . Police received several reports last Friday saying the suspected teen was showing concerning videos and making threatening statements against the school for Tuesday , january 30 .
That same day , the student , who was not named because he was underage , was arrested and taken to juvenile hall . Police took out a gun violence restraining order at the teen's home located on the 11th thousandth block of Avenida Sevrita , just blocks away from the school .
On Tuesday morning , unregistered , un-serialized firearms , manufacturing supplies to make ghost guns , both rifles and handguns , as well as a large number of explosives and rocket-propelled grenades , were found at the home . Police said the father , 45-year-old Neil Anders , was arrested and booked into San Diego County jail on several charges .
Officers say the wife and other children were home at the time . They were allowed to leave during the arrest . I'm just not sure as to what would possess people to carry out such heinous acts and crimes today . It's very sad when you see a crime done by a parent and their child .
The parent's supposed to be the one to guide the child out of trouble , but then again , maybe this is the best that this parent could particularly offer their son , giving them exactly what they want . Today a lot of parents do that . They'll feed right into what their child wants .
But the last time I checked , the parent is supposed to be someone who guides a child . They're not supposed to be only the friend of a child . There's a balance . You can be your child's friend when there's a need for it , but priority-wise you're going to be their parent . That is the best thing that parents can give their kids today a balance of both .
The saddest thing that comes up on this podcast often is just how reckless certain individuals can be . It just makes it difficult to be able to understand as to how kids are going to get over these problems and some of these challenges that they're facing . Two students shot at LaFleur High School in Mobile . Suspect in custody .
Two students were shot at LaFleur High School Tuesday and Mobile Police have the suspect another student in custody . There were reports of shots fired around midday Tuesday . The NPD said officers responded to the school at 12.03 pm and found that a 16-year-old girl had been engaged in an argument with a 15-year-old boy .
The girl then produced a handgun and shot the boy , causing a superficial wound . The bullet also struck a 17-year-old male student who was taken to the hospital for a non-life-threatening injury . The suspect surrendered to police with the assistance of her parents . According to officials , the school went on immediate lockdown .
After the incident , mobile Mayor Sandy Stimson and several Mobile City Council members visited the scene to show support for the community and their concern about these types of incidences . Stimson said they are outraged by these types of crimes . We need the community's help in solving these kinds of challenges .
Stimson said the principal sent a letter to parents Tuesday night stating that the shooting was an isolated incident but that , out of an abundance of caution , there would be extra security measures put into place . In addition , there will be counselors on hand for those who may need to talk about what happened .
I think this is my first story of the night in which we are going to the part where counselors are involved in being able to take care of these many problems that schools are dealing with and facing .
It's very unsettling when the schools don't provide the channels that these kids need to cope with the trials and tragedies that they are going through , because if that's not what you are going to do for these students , then what is the benefit ?
What is the process of them ever getting to that point where they can recover , where they can deal with the tragedies ? We know that it's not going to be an easy road , but we do recognize that things can't get better . Guys Continue to reach out to us , express your thoughts and we love you guys .
We really appreciate just how well you guys are dealing with these challenges in school and just how you're doing your best each and every day . We're almost at that final part of the show . Guys , this is our second to last story here . Student brings gun into Philadelphia's George Washington High School . Weapon later stolen .
Philadelphia police say a gun is now missing after a student snuck the weapon into George Washington High School and Somerton on Tuesday . Parents were informed of the incident on Wednesday , which is raising questions about the school's security protocols . The district says after school the gun was stolen from the student by another child while they rode a SEPTA bus .
The gun has not been recovered . A witness told their parents what happened and that person's mother made a call to the administration on Wednesday morning which resulted in a lockdown . As administrators checked the student involved and their lockers , no weapon was found . It comes as the number of guns found in Philadelphia's schools is rising .
This school year we've recovered 11 firearms so far . Last year we recovered 18 firearms throughout the school year St John's . No one has been charged but the investigation is ongoing .
So the irony of this situation is a student decides to bring in a gun to school and then , because of his carelessness and his recklessness and his foolishness , someone decides to steal the gun from the student , posing a bigger threat to the entire student body at large . Very interesting how some people reason on the choices that they need to make .
We hope that the gun is found very quickly . We hope that no one is injured .
But for those of you who are in school , if I were just dealing with a situation like that , it might just be wise to keep the kids home from school , and the school should have had some type of break in case that person with that gun returned and decides to actively cause harm to someone . Just a tiny thought for the Board of Education .
If they haven't come up with one already , here's our final story of the night guys Two teenagers injured and stabbing at Queen's High School . Three students taken into custody . At least two teenagers are facing charges in connection to a stabbing at Queen's High School Thursday .
It happened around 1.15 pm in a stairwell at Martin Van Buren High School on Hillside Avenue , police said . Police say one student was stabbed in the shoulder , the other in the abdomen . Both victims are 17 years old , neither suffered life-threatening injuries and both are listed in stable condition .
I saw the guy coming out in the stretcher and he was like sitting down with his shoulder patched up , and then a little bit after I saw another guy come out with his neck down completely covered in bandages . Sophomore Kyle Morgan said Students say the school went into lockdown for about an hour before they were dismissed around 2.15 pm .
Kyle says students were frightened when the principal came on the loudspeaker to announce the lockdown . I was kind of worried because nothing like this has happened before , he said . I want to transfer personally . Kyle said Three students were taken into custody and at least one was charged with criminal possession of a weapon .
Police sources tell us that investigators not only recovered a knife at the scene , but they also found a loaded handgun on one of the victims .
¶ Children's Safety in New York Schools
No further information in connection with this story other than the sadness , the despair when not knowing what's going to happen to your kid each and every day that they leave that house and go to school . This was one of at least 12 stabbing in New York City schools since the summer , says the NYPD , up from 7 the year prior .
The saddest thing is just a tragedy like no other when you think about how it's the law for these kids to go to school but they're just not getting the protection that they need and that's scary . The entire system in which kids have to strive to learn is a lot scary because it's not just about learning anymore At this point . It's about surviving .
