¶ School News
Guys , welcome back to another episode of R-E-D . It's that everyday podcast for the everyday people . On this particular episode we have a nice lineup of stories . Our theme today what to do , how to protect yourself from sexual predators .
We're going to discuss that theme later on in the show to be able to help our young ones as they face the nasty , difficult challenges that are so prevalent in school systems today . Before we begin our show this particular day , episode number 28 , just want to give a mighty shout out to the YouTube screen name , bree Moore . She left this comment oh my god .
First comment . And also , please can I have a shout out ? Well , here's that shout out for you , bree . We love you guys and really appreciate the support you give this podcast .
It's an honor to be here with you guys each and every week as we dive into all school news and connection with these stories that can really change the lives of those not only who are the victims in this particular story , but those whom have learned about these stories and are coping with the challenges or the aftermath of these particular stories .
Here's our first one this particular day and we're going into the home state , my home state of New Jersey , always interested in the Jersey School News the NJ Elementary School principal stole $700 from the district . The principal of an elementary school in Burlington County was arrested and charged with stealing money from the school .
Authority said Colleen Schroeder took $700 from the main office of Henry L Beeler Elementary School in Yvescham Township . Police said on Monday Schroeder , 46 of Hainesport , was already on leave for a reason unrelated to the alleged theft , superintendent Justin Smith said in a statement . Smith acknowledged Schroeder's arrest but declined additional comment .
Schroeder's annual salary is about $144,000 , according to state pension data . Attorney information wasn't immediately available . 537 students attend the kindergarten to fifth grade school on Caldwell Avenue in the Marlton section of town , according to state education data .
Now other resources have me mentioned that parents have stepped in and said that this teacher that they know , this principal , has a good record and connection with her job and connection with handling the students . Parents over this principal risk her good reputation and status to $700 when she is obviously being compensated through her regular salary .
It just doesn't add up and parents are confused and are trying to figure it out as to what could have been her possible motive . Our sources don't indicate as to what it could have been , but when you think about what principals have to deal with on a daily basis .
When you think about the amount of pressure that they're under , not only from the student body but from the board of education , from individuals who are supposed to have their backs , as it were , it can make it difficult for them to want to do the job .
Not condoning what this teacher did Stealing is never , ever okay under any circumstances but you just don't know as to what could have moved someone or drove someone down that unlikely and very , very unforeseen and unfortunate path . We wish you guys all the best in New Jersey in connection with this particular story .
Now our next story is a follow up in connection with the story that was covered last week and about the Allamance High School students that were killed in the deadly crash .
When we talk about grief on this show , we talk about practical steps that we can take to be able to cope with the loss of loved ones , to be able to find strength in the sufferings , as it were , of our pain . We can grow from pain , we can overcome it because as humans , we are resilient by nature .
Emotional vigil held for two Southeast Allamance High School students who died in a crash , allamance County , north Carolina . It was an emotional night in Allamance County for the Allamance Burlington School system , the community of ABSS , who gathered to honor two students who were killed in a crash in Orange County last week .
Dozens of students gathered at Southeast Allamance High School to pay their respects . Monday Night's Vigil is a testament to how much Brandon and Aiden were loved and cared about . Nearly every student who came had a wonderful memory to share about the both of them .
One student says , and I quote I'll never forget the day I met Brandon , the kid you'd see in the hallway picking on you just to get a laugh out of you . He always was there when you needed him .
One student said about Aiden Brandon and Aiden would always bring the light , the energy that we would always look for , and without them it's not the same , nowhere close . Another student said , with heavy hearts and watery eyes , those at Monday's candlelight vigil made a vow to make sure Brandon and Aiden , their lights , lives on inside them .
Nearly a hundred students packed the entrance of Southeast Allamance to honor lives taken too soon . Both Brandon and Aiden were students at the high school . The North Carolina State Highway patrol said the two died last Thursday in a crash on Oak Grove Church Road in Orange County .
They said the car the students were in left the road , hit a tree and caught on fire . It's unclear what caused them to lose control of the car . Both Kaleen Holden and Aiden have lower close with Brandon , as were many at Monday's vigil . His elementary school teacher even shared a few words .
He says , and I quote he was the kind of kid who showed empathy toward others . Miss Russell shared Heartfelt moments were also shared about Aiden and that was a quote from his teacher female , excuse me , not him , but her . He always was passionate about his cars and everything he did was with passion . Another student shared .
The principal made mention it was a night of remembrance , grief and healing felt by both boys , families and the students lives they touched . The students said the halls here at Southeast Alamance will never feel the same . The principal said he hopes the vigil held will help in the healing process .
When losing someone to death , the tendency is to shrink back , to run into the emotions , to cause yourself to become a victim to the emotions , not just the incident itself , but a victim to your emotions .
Your emotions can hijack you , as it were , when you participate in moments like this , when you surround yourself by persons who love you , care about you and are feeling that pain that you're going through , the persons who are dealing with those circumstances , then it becomes easier to be able to cope with the loss of what you're going through .
But if you're dealing with this alone and you're not getting that proper help , you're not getting that proper comfort , then this road of grief that all of us must travel eventually inevitably will seem much longer and lonelier than it needs to be . Eight Northeast High School students shot in Philadelphia near SEPTA bus stop .
Four suspects wanted , according to local police . We're not going into Philadelphia . Police believe they recovered the getaway car involved in Wednesday's shooting that left Eight Northeast High School students injured near SEPTA bus station at Rising Sun and Cotman Avenues in Northeast Philadelphia .
Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanor said Thursday that a 2018 Blue Hyundai Sonata was found around 10.30pm Wednesday in the 400th block of West Fern Street and the city's only neighborhood . Vanor said the Hyundai was stolen in the city's 7th police district in Northeast Philadelphia . We're moving toward knowing more about what happened yesterday and whom we may be looking for .
Vanor said Police responded to a report of a stolen car on March 2nd in the area and found a stolen grey Kia Sportaged Park . Vanorsad Investigators believe the four people stole the Kia , took it to the location in the 7th District and then stole the Hyundai . Vanorsad Police are collecting evidence from both cars .
Police said the victim's ages range from 15 to 17 years old . One , a 16-year-old , was shot nine times in the torso and placed in critical condition . All of the others are in stable condition , police said . Police believe the 16-year-old may have been targeted . Police said no arrests have been made and they still don't have a motive .
Out of the tragedy of this story and the recent shootings that have been occurring in connection with student safety and traveling to and from school has the community riled up , worried and on the edge of their seats . We know that when it comes to protecting yourself against such violence , there are steps that you have to take to protect yourself .
Make sure that you're being aware of your surroundings . Try your best not to linger after school . I see so many kids on my way home from work just lingering in the street and of course they at times may not be the target we know .
In this case , sources are saying that there was a target in mind when the shooting occurred , but sometimes innocent bystanders are victims of such unforeseen occurrence because they are in the wrong place at the right time . So try your best not to linger , guys . Try not to linger , as it were , when it comes to after school activities .
Make sure you go where you need to go in order to protect yourself . Now our next story , under the form of protecting oneself , falls into the category of the abuse of AI technology , and on one hand , people are saying that AI is the best thing that humans have , but on another hand , they're saying it's something completely different .
While you tell us what you think in the comments , let us know what you feel in connection with AI and how people are choosing to use it .
¶ School Scandals
Beverly Hills School District expels eighth graders involved in fake nude scandal . Five Beverly Hills eighth graders have been expelled for their involvement in the creation and sharing of fake nude pictures of their classmates .
The Beverly Hills Unified School District Board of Education voted at a special meeting Wednesday evening to approve stipulated agreements of expulsion with five students . According to a source close to the investigation , the expelled students were attending Beverly Vista Middle School Under a stipulated agreement .
The students and their parents do not contest the punishment and no hearing was held . The names of the students were not released and the agreements are confidential . Typically , however , such agreements specify how long a student is expelled and what the terms are for their return to the district .
According to Superintendent Michael Bregge , the five students who were the focus of its investigation were the most egregiously involved in the creation and sharing of the images , which superimposed pictures of real students' faces onto simulated nude bodies generated by artificial intelligence .
The victims , the district said , were 16 eighth grade students Shared through messaging apps . The images outraged parents and school officials , prompting Bregge to tell parents in a message last month that he was prepared to impose the most severe disciplinary actions allowed by state law .
The students involved were identified and disciplined in less than 24 hours , but district did not move to expel them until it completed its investigation . This is becoming a very difficult story because this is starting to become more and more prevalent in connection with this AI technology .
A lot of persons are not comfortable with this AI technology because of just how dangerous it can be in the personal lives of said individuals . Bregge said the nude images , which were reported to school officials February 21st , were contained within 24 hours .
No specific policy change has been announced in response to the incident , but the district has already prohibited students from using cell phones on campus . Nothing further in connection with this particular story . Considering the fact that this is just sad and a poor waste of technology and abuse , it's unfortunate that this comes back to the boys on boys dynamic .
Boys are continuing to display immaturity and are continuing to involve themselves in certain things that leave females feeling unease , that leave females feeling not respected , and you're never going to be able to change that dynamic unless it starts at home . In times , these boys are imitating things they see in their own households .
They are imitating things their parents allow them to get involved in , and if they're not cutting this off at the root , then this pattern of behavior is going to continue . As we'll discuss later on in the show For the next couple of stories , we're going into some very gruesome topics .
It's going to be very difficult to digest some of this information , so we're going to be able to take our time with it , but please let me know what you think in the comments and please don't feel shy or timid to speak up . North Texas Middle School teacher arrested on sexual assault of a child charged . This is Tarant County , texas .
A North Texas Middle School teacher was arrested on a charge of sexual assault of a child this week , according to the school officials and arrest records . Northwest Independent School district officials confirmed to WFAA that one of his teachers , david Goggins , a Pike Middle School teacher , has been arrested by the Tarant County Sheriff's Department .
Goggins was booked into Tarant County jail and his bond was set at $250,000 . Court records showed Goggins posted bond and was released . According to the jail records , the alleged incident reportedly happened when Goggins worked at Main Creek Middle School in the Eagle Mountain Saginaw Independent School District District .
Police told WFAA District officials said Goggins last worked in the Eagle Mountain Saginaw District in the 2021-2022 school year . According to an arrest effort , david obtained by WFAA . Victim told forensic officials with the Tarant County Nonprofit Organization Alliance for children that she was in eighth grade at Marine Creek Middle School when the assault happened .
Per the affidavit , the victim said she let a friend borrow her jacket , then went to retrieve it from Goggins' math class after her friend left it in his classroom .
The victim said Goggins was grading papers at his desk when she walked in to get her jacket and that he began making small talk with her about his newborn baby being tired , not getting much sleep and needing to relieve some stress . According to the arrest effort , the victim said Goggins then pushed her onto a desk and raped her for approximately 10 minutes .
According to the arrest effort , the affidavit said the victim ran out of the classroom , made it to her school bus , went home , showered and kept the incident to herself without alerting her parents , any school administrators or authorities . Investigators later corroborated the victim's story details with two classmates who knew the victim .
The affidavit said Investigators also interviewed Goggins , who confirmed his employment with the school and timeline when he worked at Marine Creek Middle School , but denied all allegations of sexual contact with any student or any kind of inappropriate relationship .
According to the affidavit , northwest ISD immediately placed Goggins on administrative leave and denied him access to the school and any other district schools that Principal made notice of in a letter . More information about the case was not released . However , there are individuals who are very upset , stating that Goggins was indeed an upstanding teacher .
No terrible records , nothing that would suspect him being involved in foul play . Police are not seeking additional victims and no reports of misconduct were received while the person was employed , according to what was noted from the district police in connection with this incident .
We hope that this matter is addressed and taken care of for the benefit of these individuals .
If this student in fact is not telling the truth , then that might be an area of concern for persons , but if this story does come out to be true , as it were , then there is going to be a long process in connection with dealing with these very , very difficult circumstances . Here is our next story in that same realm of development .
A girl's high school teacher charged after attempting to get explicit photos from students were now returning back to Philadelphia . A teacher has been arrested for attempting to sexually abuse and exploit a student at Philadelphia's high school for girls .
The Philadelphia District Attorney's office said the district attorney's office at Percy Fields 32 , is facing charges of unlawful contact with a minor , Sexual abuse of children , attempted corruption of minors , criminal use of communication facility and possession of an instrument of crime .
Officials said in January Fields allegedly gave a 16-year-old student money via cash app to help her buy food at school . Then he attempted to solicit explicit photos and sexual relations with the student in exchange for more cash . According to investigators , another student became aware of the situation and notified a counselor who reported to Philadelphia Police .
Svu Fields turned himself into the police on Tuesday . The district attorney's office said During a January press conference . School district spokesperson Monique Braxton said Fields was removed from the school premises after school officials learned about the incident . Mr Fields submitted his resignation on March 1st .
Braxton added Fields asked if you have any information about this case or wish to report Unrelated incidents of child sexual abuse or violence to contact Philadelphia Police SVU at 215-685-3264 . Another tragic story in connection with just how teachers are just taking this power that they have and abusing it , and just for a lack of better words , abusing it .
And it's no wonder that students don't want to participate in sports anymore . It's no wonder why students today don't want to get involved in certain activities because they're afraid for their very lives . They're afraid that they might be a victim of such individuals and that is truly a fear inspiring thing to live with .
It really leaves you on the edge of your seat . You live in constant fear of what could happen to you as a student and it's just unsettling . Here's our last story of this particular topic and again it just highlights just the mindset of certain teachers today in the school system . Former elementary school teacher accused of molesting previous student .
Rowan County , north Carolina . A former elementary school teacher has been arrested for allegedly engaging in numerous sex crimes with a former student , sarah Kathleen Majors was taken into custody on February 22 after a four month long investigation by the Rowan County Sheriff's Office Special Investigations Unit .
Deputy said Majors met the victim during her time as a teacher at Hurley Elementary School in Salisbury years ago . The crimes were allegedly committed from the year 2019 until 2022 . The victim was no longer a student at the elementary school when the sexual assault occurred .
According to deputies , the victim came forward last October , which led to the Sheriff's Office investigation . Majors has been charged with eight counts of performing a sex act with a student , 16 counts of indecent liberties with a minor and 16 counts of statutory rape of a child 15 years of age or younger .
Rowan County schools address Majors' tenure there , saying Miss Majors resigned from the Rowan Salisbury school system in August of 2020 . We were not aware of any accusation . Upon her resignation On Monday , majors attorney filed a motion asking for her bond to be reduced to $50,000 , saying the bond right now is excessive .
She goes back to court next week in Rowan County . This story in which children are dealing with the tragedies of their teachers going wild . But here are some things for us to consider On this particular episode . Our theme focuses on how you can be able to protect yourself from predators , what you can be able to do to protect yourself from such individuals .
The saddest thing about protecting yourself from a predator is that a lot of individuals are not taught how to protect themselves from such individuals . One of the things I will always say is that when someone is ignorant , when they really just don't know something , it really doesn't lie on them completely .
There's going to be a few things we discuss that can be able to help you guys to know or to be aware of and protect yourself from such predators . Consider the first thing Be alert . As you walk outdoors , as you go to your different classrooms or classes , be aware of your surroundings .
Do not take a jolly teacher or do not take a friendly teacher as just that . Always be cautious . No , we're not saying to be CIA with every teacher that's friendly or professional in a nice way , but be cautious , be very cautious to your surroundings .
¶ Protecting Youth Against Predators and Violence
Number two don't send mixed messages . Avoid flirting or dressing provocatively . We know that there are trends that young people like to follow today . We know that there are certain things that you guys like to do as part of your young makeup . But do the research , try to ask questions about certain outfits and garments bracelets , necklaces , etc .
Earrings , even guys certain customs and wardrobes , so that you can know where it originates from , because these predators , these individuals , know what that stuff represents and if they see you wearing that stuff then they might think that you're not opposed to a certain type of physical contact .
So just be mindful of your surroundings and don't send mixed messages to individuals . Three talk about boundaries . If you are in a relationship with someone or not in a relationship with someone , make sure you have personal boundaries for yourself so that you know how to protect yourself , so you know when it's getting too close to that line of uncomfortability .
Don't let those things take you off guard . Number four be willing to speak up . Oftentimes persons will have these encounters . They may say I don't want the other person to feel bad . I didn't say anything because they're a nice teacher . I didn't say anything because they're a nice individual or whatever . Be a nice friend from lunch .
If you don't speak up , you're more liable to have someone take advantage of you . So make sure that you protect yourself and speak up . Use your words to be able to express what you're comfortable with and what you're not comfortable with . And here's our final point , number five be cautious when you're online .
Oftentimes , young persons may think that there's some sort of thrill and connection with having online relationships and then going into this circumstance for fun , but you never know who's on the other end of that computer screen .
So it's always , always , always , always important to be cautious of who you're talking to online , not sharing personal information , not taking money from persons online , because you never know how these individuals can track you . So keep those points in mind , guys .
Those are just some small ways you can be able to look out for and protect yourself against predators . Here's our next story Girl hospitalized with critical injuries following fight near Hazelwood East . Hazelwood East High School . Go back , take it back again . Cut Three , two , one . Girl hospitalized with critical injuries following fight near Hazelwood High School .
St Louis County . A girl was critically injured in a fight Friday near Hazelwood East High School . The fight happened Friday before 2.30pm near the intersection of Norgate Drive and Clawdeen Drive . Officers found a girl with a severe head injury . She was taken to the hospital and remained in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon .
A 15-year-old girl was arrested Saturday and charged with assault in the incident , she was taken to the St Louis County Family Court and remained in custody . As of Sunday afternoon . The Hazelwood School District posted a statement on social media offering condolences to the victims and families .
Missouri Lieutenant Governor , mike Keough , sent first alert for the following statement regarding the incident the culture of a complete disregard for human life is unacceptable and it does not represent who we are as Missourians . All involved must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law . Our prayers are with the victim , kaylee , for a full recovery .
Now , of course , we echo those sentiments for this student who was injured . There is a video attached to this story . Guys , this video is gruesome . There is an amount of hate , anger and rage in the student who was being the attack , the student who was doing the attacking , and I just can't believe how angry children are today .
You pay no bills , you don't have to deal with certain challenges that are just a consequence of just being an adult living today , and that's what makes it so much more difficult for us to understand why children today have this rage on them , why they're angry and because of that .
Now another 15 year old girl is behind bars and is awaiting her set up of judicial punishment . This follow up story , this next story we're going to get into it , just highlights again just how much children take violence as a game . But it's all fun and games until someone really genuinely gets hurt . Fight game in an elementary school classroom caught on video .
We're going now into Landover , maryland . Allegations of an elementary school fight game have parents upset and concerned in Landover , maryland . Video from inside a classroom at Coral Rice Elementary School shows students counting down before a fight between a boy and a girl . Classmates cheered and recorded the fight on their phones .
A parent of one of the children involved may mention there was nothing done to stop the fight . A teacher seen briefly in the video has resigned , according to Prince George's County Public Schools , but the school system did not say if that was related to the fight video .
In a statement the school system said administrators have been made aware that some fifth grade students have been taking part in what they call the fight game . The school's principal sent a letter to parents referring to horse playing and play fighting . Some of the students are engaging in the fight game .
The letter reads the students set the rules no hitting my face , pulling of hair , etc . And countdown while two students fight . While we understand that children may engage in playful activities , it's crucial to emphasize the importance of maintaining safe and respectful behavior at all times .
Such behaviors can lead to real fights , accidents and injuries , which we aim to prevent to ensure the well-being of all students . The letter also says students are not supposed to have their cell phones out during school hours . They're supposed to be turned off and in backpacks .
The principal said the school will monitor bathrooms more closely , encourage responsible decision-making and implement a reward system to recognize and celebrate student behavior . It's unclear if any students were disciplined . Now , looking at this story , there are two issues at play here . Issue number one always got to go back to mom and dad .
Children are going to be children . They're going to do things . They're going to say things . It's up to a parent to guide them . It's up to a parent to say , hey , son , that's wrong . Hey , daughter , that's wrong . For some people that is just not how they parent anymore .
They're more interested in being a friend of their child rather than someone that's going to be able to help them to grow in life . But the school also has responsibility . It's also the responsibility of the school to make sure that these students have structure and discipline while they're in their company .
But as a school bus driver , I can assure you , guys , that times have drastically changed , because where the school tries to implement rules , structure , discipline , parents will fight you to the death . Some parents will argue you down .
And that's not cool , because I was raised or I thought that these rules , this foundation of discipline , as it were , was for the betterment of the child . When you take away that solid foundation chaos , corruption and danger .
In this following story , notice exactly what happens when those that formula , those qualities , that structure , is removed from the upbringing of a child . Cleveland middle school investigating after teachers seen manhandling student .
Now we're talking about how these things can literally hinder a child from moving forward , because this child , here , being a victim , may not have that structure and foundation because of what this teacher decided to do . And an investigation is underway after a teacher was recorded grabbing and pulling on a young male student at Cleveland middle school .
The incident reportedly took place on March the first . The teacher captured in the video is seen yanking the student towards him by the back of his shirt . After attempting to push the child to the ground , the teacher is seen grabbing the child's leg and forcing him to the floor , then the boy is lifted off the ground by his shirt before the video cuts .
Cleveland independent school district said it is aware of the incident and the staff member has been removed from the campus and is no longer working in CISD , as reported yesterday in a statement by the district . The video is gruesome . There was no justification for this teacher to be doing this to a particular student .
The saddest thing about these tragedies is that if no one steps in to do the right thing , then the right thing will never get done . The video is out of context . Of course we're not going to just attack the teacher . We don't know what the student did prior to the video .
If you guys have seen something in connection with this story , if you know something and connect you with this story , give already be a shout out . Let us know what happened , let us know how the story makes you feel and let us know what you think could make things better in this particular school district . Here's our follow up .
Fighting continues at Clarksburg high school . Whistleblower reports . This is Clarksburg . Maryland whistleblower reported more fighting Monday among students at Clarksburg high school in Montgomery County , after serious disruptions Friday sent one staffer to a hospital and resulted in a letter to parents over the weekend .
Now some teachers say they are afraid for their safety and are worried that school discipline policies don't protect them or students . It was a safety concern on Friday , said retired special education specialist Deb Waxman , who continues to work at the school as a substitute and athletic coach .
When you have one or two fights that's one thing , but when you have five or six of them in the same space of an hour's time , it then becomes a safety issue . Waxman says she is going public on behalf of coworkers who have more to lose . She reported one colleague came to work Monday with a badly bruised arm from attempting to break up a fight Friday .
A security worker was injured Friday , according to school authorities , and a letter was sent to parent Sunday . Here's what it says and I quote a small number of students making regrettable decisions led to physical altercations . The letter read However , our dedicated staff swiftly intervened , allowing security and administration to address the situations promptly .
Waxman believes student discipline reforms aiming to reduce suspensions and focus on restorative counseling and discipline are not working . Cram noted discipline is carried out under a memorandum of understanding with Montgomery County Police should law enforcement authorities become involved .
Cram said families play a crucial role in fostering a positive , peaceful and school environment . Administrators are asking for parents to help with the following actions . Reinforce positive behaviors by acknowledging and celebrating them . Discourage your children from engaging in social media behaviors that perpetuate conflicts Filming , posting , commenting .
Encourage your children to confide in a trusted adult if they hear rumors of potential conflicts . Attend school events with your children . Get involved in the PTSD .
¶ Parental Involvement and School Discipline
This story highlights again just how involved parents need to be the parents . A lot of the times . You look at the child and you say , wow , they just don't know any better .
And then you make that phone call and you say hello , mrs Stevens , hello Mr Richards and for the sake of this podcast , those names are not real in connection with these stories , just examples but you call these parents up Mrs Stevens or Mr Richards or whoever and you say your son is acting up in school , and then the parent will respond and I quote what do
you want me to do about it ? At that moment , your hands are literally tied . Your hands are tied , as it were . There's nothing that you can do about it as an administrator , there's nothing the parent's going to do about it , and so it really makes it difficult , all the more so .
This next story will highlight just how a lack of parental guidance can literally limit a student from progressing forward , even when it comes to levels of respect that all of us should have for one another as human beings .
An Indiana high school student says administrators told him that he had to remove the American flag on his truck , only to change their decision a day later . Cameron Blaisig , a senior at East Central High School , says he was called into the principal's office Thursday and was told to remove the flag from his truck while on school property .
Blaisig says he has flown the flag from his truck for the entire school year without issue . When news of the incident reached the student body , blaisig found out he had support . Several other students began flying the flag from their vehicles when they came to school .
Blaisig's family says they have heard rumors that the Sunman Dearborn Community School District may implement a new rule for next school year that would not allow students to display the US flag from their vehicles while on school grounds . Let's talk about this story for a minute . This is one that's up for discussion . Let me know what you think in the comments .
Let me know what you guys think . Erase all of the supplementary issue here . Let's erase all of the things that surround this story . It really boils down to one thing respect .
Years ago , when administrators asked us to do something , we may not have understood the reason , we may not have understood the motive , but because of the respect we have for the school , because of the respect that we have for an adult , because of the respect that we have for the teacher , whoever we would not go toe to toe with these individuals .
Because of respect . Persons are trying to make it seem as though the school is telling this young man to take his flag down for biased reasons , but the thing that we really have to hone in on is that this is a story of respect , respect on all parts . If you are a member of school , you are expected to comply with the rules of the school .
May not like him , may not like him , but that's just life . He says that the school allowed him to hang this flag all year long , etc . No problem . If they are telling you to take it down now , could it possibly be because a bigger issue has come up because of the flag ? Could it be that there was a threat made ?
Or could it be that another student wants to bring something graphic into the building , something that could offend other people , something that could be very , very , very disrespectful , and the school is like you know what ?
Because this person has this flag and this person wants to bring something else in , we are just none of that stuff , just don't bring it in here , because we don't want the conflict . See , no one gives anyone the benefit of the doubt .
You see , yes , of course we are not saying that the school should not show respect , but what we are also saying is that respect is something that is so far fetched from people today . It's something that is just so not common anymore that people are just not giving respect anymore .
I remember some time ago , when you were someone who smoked , you would say excuse me , if you were in the presence of someone else who didn't smoke , you would be respectful , because that's not how they are choosing to live their life . Now , today , you don't really have a choice . People don't give each other a benefit of the doubt .
There's no common courtesy , no human feeling . This story echoes that . Would it have hurt him to take the flag off the vehicle ? Absolutely not , and we are not saying that he had to . But in some cases , sometimes , just sometimes , guys , it is better to walk away for the sake of peace than to breathe confrontation , because confrontation hinders us from growth .
It does not allow us oftentimes to see the perspective of other individuals , something that can enhance our communication , something that can make us better individuals at the end of the day .
So , of course , this is not a matter of taking sides one way or the other , but you guys who are tuning into this podcast always look for ways to grow , always look for ways to be a better person . Sometimes we don't have to understand everything . I've learned that just this past couple of months .
Sometimes , for the sake of peace , we just have to let some certain things go , and that's just . That's how I was raised and I really see the wisdom in handling it as such . Here's our next story , and , of course , we're talking about being raised and we're talking about this , that and the third . This next story is international . We're going now into Japan .
I thought this was a very , very , very stirring story . Japanese school principal fired , loses $133,000 pension after getting caught stealing less than 50 cents worth of coffee . Yeah , yeah , yeah . Interesting right . A principal in Japan has been fired after allegedly being caught underpaying for his coffee multiple times .
As a result , he will not receive his retirement pay , valued at about $20 million $133,000 . The incident was reported in January . The incident was reported in January in the city of Takasago , located in Hayago , prefecture Honshu , by local Japanese media .
The 59 year old male principal of a Takasago Junior High School was reportedly busted after using a self-service coffee machine at a convenience store . He allegedly had been pouring himself a large-sized coffee while only paying for a regular-sized coffee .
Regular coffee sell for 110 yen 73 cents , but he was perfectly getting the larger size value at 180 yen $1.20 , a difference of just 70 yen or 47 cents . The store clerk noticed , stopped the man and immediately called the police . The clerk claimed the man had done the sneaky act twice before .
The store did not press charges , but word got back to the school and during questioning by the Hayago Prefectural Board of Education , the man is said to have admitted underpaying for coffee seven times , adding up to about 490 yen $3.26 worth of coffee .
Japan Today reports that the man did it the first time by accident but repeated it , thinking he was getting away with it . He told the board he did it on the impulse of the moment and declared that he was truly sorry . He was reportedly fired on January 30th with the board citing gross misconduct , unbecoming of an educational public servant .
The board members stated they were very sorry from the bottom of their hearts for allowing it to happen . One person said he could have brought like 100,000 large coffees with those retirement benefits he lost . A professor from Japan's Women's University mentioned that the punishment was disproportionately severe . This story is the impulse of the moment .
Often times people will say things like mom , that won't happen to me , or dad , that won't happen to me because , xyz , I did this , I checked my boxes . But this story is a perfect example of how things happen on the impulse of the moment and if we're not careful we can give in to those inclinations and it can cost us dearly .
We know that this must be very upsetting for this particular individual who lost out on his pension because of an impulsive decision , but at the same time we understand that in some cultures stealing shows the lack of dishonor and they don't take that too lightly . We wish you all the best there in Japan .
Here's our next story Five Bangor middle school students suspended over a marijuana laced brownie incident .
¶ School Incidents
We're going now into Michigan . Five Bangor middle school students have been suspended after marijuana laced brownies were shared and eaten Cut Sorry , three , two , sorry . Some small crash in the windows . In the windows , five Bangor Middle School students have been suspended after marijuana laced . The brownies were shared and eaten in the school's cafeteria .
An 11-year-old student confessed to bringing the brownies to school , sharing them with four other children . Two of the four students said they were aware the brownies were laced with marijuana , while the other two said that they did not know the dessert was laced . All five of the students have been suspended for 10 days .
However , depending on information gathered during the district's investigation , the two students who were not aware that the brownies were THC-infused may not be suspended for the full 10 days . In addition to suspension duration , information obtained during the investigation could also lead to a minor in possession charge for the student who brought the brownies to school .
According to the school principal , this student is being referred to the Van Buren County Juveniles Court . According to the Bangor Police Department , one of the students was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and was eventually discharged , police said .
Johnson said the school became aware of the incident after one of the students who did not know the brownies were laced went home until they parent , who then reported the situation to the middle school . Parents were notified of the incident and police were then called to the school . Subsequent charges may be sought pending further information gathered by investigators .
Police said An example of what not to eat when your friends bring things to school . And , of course , when it comes to laced brownies and I know that persons may not know what they look like because they look like your innocent brownies that you would get at the local supermarket some would say that you can smell .
The smell is very different , it's very punchy and it's very unique , and so that is an indicator that , hey , something might not be right .
In case you guys are wondering , or in case you guys are trying to see as to what could be involved in brownies that are laced , the sad part about this is that these are things that are just becoming more and more prevalent in school , things you guys have to deal with .
We know that you guys are going to be okay in connection with this story , but again , we're hoping that the board uses wisdom and looks at the overall situation before administering any discipline or punishment . We are now going into our final two stories and let's just say it's definitely going to need some input .
The Cow County Middle School cafeteria fails health inspection . My cafeteria should have been here too , my high school cafeteria and my middle school and elementary actually every school year cafeteria . I've always wondered that Does anyone actually inspect these cafeterias and does anything come about them inspecting them ? This is Georgia .
At the Cow County Middle School cafeteria will have to improve to stay open after it recently failed a health inspection . In the report by the Georgia Department of Health Public Health , druid Hills Middle School received a 63 out of 100 on February 27th , 7 points lower than a passing grade .
Inspectors noted several violations , including an employee who returned from the restroom to serve students without washing their hands . The report also noted the school had been storing milk , lasagna and bean and cheese burritos at more than 41 degrees and salads prepared without using proper cooling methods .
Among the other violations included expired boxes of yogurt , a broken kitchen sink and a lack of certified food manager . The school was given orders to correct some of the violations in the days after the inspection or it would have to voluntarily close until they were corrected .
Druid Hills Middle School officials reportedly notified parents of the failed inspection in a letter to parents . The principal said that they expect to be reinspected by health department officials on or before March 12th and are confident in passing . The school's last two health scores were 86 and 100 in October and March 2023 respectively .
We're hoping that this is just a case of negligence , but a case of mistake , of things that you were not intending to do . Some of these things here are just plain old common sense , but what would really get to me is the staff member coming back from the local laboratory and not washing their hands . That's just Sanitation 101 .
When I do start visiting you guys at school as a podcaster and covering certain information , I'm not trying to eat at the cafeteria . I'll just get some chipotle to go or something like that . But there's just no way I'm going to be doing that .
We hope that they're able to get this rectified , but again , when it comes to health inspecting and addressing these matters , it can be a little bit longer of a process . Hopefully the kids are allowed to bring lunch to school in the meantime . Our final story for episode number 28 , guys .
Danya Beach Woman accused of attacking elementary school teacher going out to Danya Beach , florida . A Danya Beach woman is facing a felony charge after attacking a fourth grade teacher at an elementary school in the city , deputy said .
According to court documents obtained by local news 10 on Monday , the attack happened on the campus of Danya Elementary School , a brood public school located at 300 Southeast Avenue . Last Tuesday Brood Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Tara Marla McIntosh , 43 , on Thursday and arrests report states that the teacher once taught her child .
The report says that the teacher was assisting with after school dismissal at around 250 PM when McIntosh pulled up and her Nissan sedan got out , charged at her and then hit her multiple times in the face . Authority said someone was able to capture a photo of McIntosh's license plate before she left the scene .
According to the arrest report , the teacher told deputies she had had multiple parent teacher conferences with her over the year .
A judge , after finding probable cause to charge McIntosh with a third degree felony count of battery on a public or private education employee , ordered her to have no contact with the victim and to stay away from the Danya Elementary School campus . She was no longer listed in Brewer jail records as of Monday .
These parents today are the things that make teachers not want to be teachers . It's unsettling when you have to worry about a parent trying to attack you for no reason at all , and that's the difficult thing about being a teacher today .
And so if a teacher is under the pressure from the board , and they're under the pressure from the students , and they're under the pressure from the superintendent , which also falls into that same political element of the board of education , and now you have these parents who are just emotionally charged to a situation , where does the teacher get relief ?
Well , you should be careful , because in some cases , teachers may take matters into their own hands and become violent with students .
So you really see the amount of stress that teachers are under today and just how difficult it can be to balance everything and to keep that stamina going and to keep that love and drive for teaching being cultivated each and every day .
