Summer is around the corner and I can't begin to tell you , guys , just how thrilled I am to know that our school year is coming fast to its conclusion . It has been a wacky school year and I know the stories that we've covered on this platform have reached your hearts .
It's motivated you to think about your circumstances and has given you an opportunity to reflect on ways that you can better yourself to prepare for the following school year . But before we down the mood with next year's thoughts and discussions , let's focus on the fact that summer is around the corner . Do you guys have any summer plans ?
What do you plan on accomplishing this particular summer ?
You know for myself , I work at a camp in the summer and I'm eager to be able to return back to the fishing dock and be able to sit there in the sun and catch up with all of the kids whom I was able to be with last year in connection with how their school year was and what they expect to accomplish this summer by means of their goals .

How is it that you can teach your child about sex ? Well , the first thing that one needs to consider in connection with this topic is why is that a challenge ?
Just a few decades ago , parents had at least a good chance to be the first to talk to their son or daughter about sex , and they could explain things gradually according to the child's age and need . But unfortunately , the world that we live in today has indeed changed .
On my school bus , I hear conversations that are more and more inappropriate from peer to peer in connection with sexual activity . I also come in contact with young minor individuals who are engaged in such sexual activity .
So it is going to be a challenge for parents today in order to be able to cultivate said conversations with their child , when their peers are instigating such conversations naturally in their day-to-day associations . Children are being exposed to sexual messages at increasingly early ages and the sexual content of children's media is on the rise , says the book .
The Lolita Effect . Does this new reality help children or hurt them ? Well , what should you know as a parent ? Explicit content is everywhere .
In her book , talk to Me First , deborah Rothman writes that conversations , advertisements , movies , books , song lyrics , tv shows , texts , games , billboards and phone and computer screens are so laced with sexual imagery , language and innuendo that many teens , preteens and even young children must conclude , at least unconsciously , that sex must be the absolute most important
thing . Consider our next point . To consider Marketing is partly to blame . Advertisers and retailers peddle sexy clothing for children , training them from an early age to put undue emphasis on the parents . Marketers know about young children's vulnerabilities and they exploit them , says the book . So Sexy , so Soon .
All these sexual images and products are not intended to sell children on sex , but on shopping . Consider another point Information is not enough . Just as there is a difference between knowing how a car works and being a responsible driver , there is a difference between having knowledge about sex and using that knowledge to make wise decisions .
The bottom line Today more than ever , you need to help your children train their powers of discernment so that they can be able to distinguish both right and wrong and wrong . So what is it that you can do as a parent to be able to talk to your child about sex in a world that's filled with sexual misconduct ?
Number one get involved , no matter how awkward it may be . Talking to your children about sex is your responsibility . Accept it . Oftentimes , students , children , young adults and preteens will go to their peers about sexual encounters or endeavors because there is no bridge of communication between the parents or the family in connection with the topic .
In some cultures , talking about sex has become a bit taboo , and so naturally , a child is going to withdraw from such uncomfortable moments . Remember , the road of a teenager is 80% uncomfortability and 20% wanting to be with their friends . And so think back to when you were a teenager . Did you naturally feel comfortable to talk to your own parents about a sex .
Consider our second point under the topic of what you can do , have small discussions Instead of having one big talk . Take advantage of casual moments to communicate , perhaps while the two of you are traveling in your car or doing a chore , to help your child open up , ask viewpoint questions .
For example , rather than saying are you attracted to ads like that , you could say why do you think advertisers use those types of images to sell product ? After your child answers , you could ask how do you feel about that ?
You see , when you ask open-ended questions or viewpoint questions , you can be able to draw out the motivations , the feelings and intentions and desires of your child , thus enabling them to speak to you in a comfortable manner . Consider our next point Keep it age-appropriate . Consider our next point Keep it age appropriate .
Sometimes , as humans adult humans naturally we want to bombard the child with all of the things we know about a specific topic . This may not be bad in itself , but when it comes to certain topics , such as communicating about sex , we must be careful to keep it age appropriate . That way , the child won't feel intimidated or ignorant in such matters .
Preschoolers can be taught the proper names of the sex organs as well as how to protect themselves from sexual predators . As they grow , children can be told basic facts about reproduction . By puberty they should have come to understand more fully the physical and moral aspects of sex .
You see , as you go through the stages in connection with your child's age and you keep it age-appropriate the topic of sex , you can help them to become realistic in connection with discussing it in the future . Here's another point of interest Impart values . Start teaching your child at an early age about honesty , integrity and respect .
Then , when sex is discussed , you have a foundation to build on . Also , state your values clearly . For example , if you view sex before marriage as improper , say so and explain why it is wrong and harmful . Some parents resort to methods such as do as I say , not as I do .
This kind of method may work in some cases for some parents and some children , but oftentimes it leaves the child confused and conflicted . Teens who say they know that their parents disapprove of teens having intercourse are less likely to actually have sex , says the book Beyond the Big Talk . So what can you do as a parent ? Set the example for your child .
Live by the values you teach . For instance , do you laugh at obscene jokes , dress provocatively , flirt . Such actions may undermine the moral values you are trying to teach your children , and oftentimes that is the case . I'll hear students on my bus say things like well , why do I have to do it if you're not doing it In connection with wearing a seatbelt ?
It seems to be something simple , but to a child , when it comes to someone they look up to or a person in an authoritative manner , they want to see that you are living the benefit of what you're saying . Here's our final point Keep it positive . Well , how can you do so ?
Despite the fact that some people believe that having sex in a wanton fashion is for their benefit , some have found that it isn't in the best interest of young persons . Sex is a gift from God and in the right circumstance , in marriage , it can be a source of great pleasure , can be a source of great pleasure .
So if that is your belief or your view , let your child know that in time , he or she may be able to enjoy that gift , especially without the heartache and worries that come from premarital sex . Now here's a point of interest to take note of A parent's role .
Despite common perceptions , children , including teenagers , are more influenced by their parents than by peers . Children always look first to the immediate adults in their lives for guidance and for framing the world in a way they can relate to and understand . They go elsewhere only when they know or sense that we are not willing to be present or available .

One of the main qualities needed in order to make this a successful conversation is to be patient . Remember those points under the category of what you should know . Explicit content is everywhere .
Information is not enough and the bottom line , it is your responsibility to help your child to make wise decisions in their lives . Well , what can you do ? Remember how we discussed getting involved , have small discussions and keep it age appropriate .
Well , if you do these things and you follow these guidelines and steps , you can come off victorious in protecting your child and fortifying them and talking to them about sex . Our first story on the show this evening follows the circumstances of a young person that decided to use social media in a very simple way . Note the consequences .
Chino Hills High School senior expelled from school for a live streaming fight . A Chino Hills senior spoke out against the school district after the administration expelled her for live streaming a fight .
Zoe already took her senior graduation pictures and purchased her prom dress , but she can't go to the dance or walk in her commencement this month at Ayala High School because of the expulsion , possibly ruining her future academic plans . I got a substantial scholarship , a $19,000 scholarship to go to a university , she said . I'll be practicing law after I graduate .

In an official expulsion letter from the board , officials accused Zoe of violating three education codes cyberbullying , intimidation , harassment and attempting to cause physical injury to another person .
A source close to the incident told KCAL News that the incident was more of a planned attack on the victim . Zoe said she did no such thing nor played any role in orchestrating the encounter . Her mother said she knows the district's student-parent handbook mentions possible disciplinary actions that could lead to expulsion .
Zoe will finish her education at an alternative school . Her family can appeal the expulsion with the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools so she can still receive her diploma from Ayala High School from Ayala High School .
The tragic thing in connection with this story and we've all been victims of it is that you make one wrong move and one wrong mistake and it can cost you everything .
I understand what Zoe is trying to communicate here that she did not know , possibly , what the consequences would be , or that she didn't see the danger or the seriousness of what would happen because of the fact that young people today use social media throughout so many drastic means , and that's true . She may not have known and the outcome is indeed unfortunate .
However , students be reminded that the school board has a responsibility . To put a fight on a live streaming platform . Filming it in and on school property is a violation of the school policy , simply because the school can now be faced with a lawsuit based on the victims or the victim involved in the fight .
It becomes a legal matter when you do things on school property and then the school has to be involved . There has to be some type of consequence in connection with these stories . Now , of course , we have a small piece of what happened . However , we are hoping that this doesn't hinder the scholarship that is a necessity for young Zoe here .
If anything is to transpire in connection with this story , I'll be able to update you . Guys , we'll be able to update you , but it is unfortunate when students make small mistakes and it does cost them in a great , great way . In our follow-up story , we see once again just how difficult it can be for parents to strive to trust the school system .

According to Jefferson County Jail records , 45-year-old Keontae Harris was arrested on a fugitive from justice charge . He is facing murder charges in Georgia . Harris made his first court appearance Tuesday . He signed extradition paperwork and will be moved to Georgia between now and May 28th .
¶ School Violence and Legal Consequences
According to a press release from the Clayton County Sheriff's Office in Georgia , four men were arrested this week in an 11-year-old triple murder case in Union City , georgia . The men arrested were identified as Keontae Harris , kenneth Thompson , kevin Harris and Darrell Harris . Each of the men have been charged with three counts of malice murder .
Authorities in Georgia say warrants were issued Wednesday in their investigation of three people found tortured and murdered in Clayton County , georgia tortured and murdered in Clayton County , georgia , before they were taken to Fulton County , georgia , where they were found in an abandoned car along I-85 at an exit ramp in Union City , georgia , on January 13 , 2013 .
Harris was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on May 8 . It can be a frightening thing to find out that someone on your school administration board is guilty of committing crimes in their past and living their life as if they hadn't done anything . It can be frightening for parents to know that their children have been surrounded by such individuals .

This next story is an update in connection with circumstances that developed in Lehigh Utah . Lehigh high school teacher hospitalized after tragic accident during class . We're in Lehigh Utah .
A Lehigh high school teacher was taken to the hospital after what school district officials are calling a very unfortunate accident during a class . Friday morning , according to Lehigh City , just before 1140 am on May 10th , a teacher at Lehigh High School was injured in a tragic , very unfortunate accident during a class .
According to a press release from Lehigh City , lehigh police and Lehigh Fire responded to the accident and the male teacher was taken to the hospital for treatment . No students were injured in the event . Officials added the area was secured and there are no additional risks to students or others who may be visiting the school to release states .
According to the city , parents of all Lehigh High students have been made aware of the incident , as well as the support services and crisis counseling available . We extend our deepest concern to the teacher involved and their family during this difficult time .
Officials said we are grateful that no students were injured in the accident and we appreciate the swift and professional response from Lehigh Fire and Police . The incident is currently under investigation . Imagine a tragic circumstance develops at your child's school . Well , what can you do to be able to protect them ?
Continue to build on communication , be active and aware of what goes on in your child's life on a day-to-day basis , and try to fight the tendency to feel as though you're prying into their personal business , for as far as a good parent is concerned , their personal business is of the deepest and utmost concern to you .

Two former California high school students were awarded $1 million in tuition reimbursement after they said they were forced to withdraw from the school in 2020 for wearing acne masks , which were interpreted by officials and community members as blackface .
The two former St Francis High School students , now 21 years of age , became the poster children of racism when a picture from 2017 of them with acne masks circulated in June 2020 during the Black Lives Matter movement .
The suit says this case is significant not only for its groundbreaking effect on all private high schools in California , which are now legally required to provide fair procedure to students before punishing or expelling them . Krista Lee Bachman , the former student's attorney , said in a statement emailed to USA Today .
The jury rightly confirmed that St Francis High School's procedures were unfair to our clients and that the school is not above the law . The boys sued SFHS , the president of the SFHS and a parent of one of the students at SFHS for breach of contract , defamation and violating two other legal rights .
A jury on May 6th awarded each former student $500,000 in tuition reimbursement , which totaled about $70,000 , the Los Angeles Times reported totaled about $70,000 , the Los Angeles Times reported . We know that in all of the cases in connection with misjudgment and hastiness , this isn't always the outcome .
Some people may feel as though this is a dream come true , but this shouldn't stop you from speaking up If you're someone who is a victim at school or you feel as though you are being wronged in some way . Do not let the fear of striking out keep you from being in the game .
Remember , if you don't speak up and say something , then nothing will ever be heard . For the students involved in such accusations , it's nice to be able to know that with a little patience and time you can have things work out for the benefit of your circumstance . We wish you the best there .
In California , violence continues to escalate in the school environment today , and so no wonder it is a positive and soul-searching question for many students in connection with this show how can they cope with violence in their school , how can they be able to come off victorious in connection with school violence and challenges ?
Well , our next story will provide as to why some of these students are concerned . Two middle school students attacked by a group of adults in Newburgh . The administration says two students were attacked after dismissal and that one child had to be taken to the hospital .
A violent attack Friday involving a group of adults and students outside of South Middle School in Newburgh is under investigation , according to the school's principal . The administration says two students were attacked after dismissal and that one child had to be taken to the hospital .
The school's principal , roderick Phoenix , issued a statement in a letter to parents saying in part this behavior is not welcomed or tolerated . We rely on our parents , guardians and families to act as a role model for our children .
The district says law enforcement , school security and the school nurse responded to the incident and that it's working with police to investigate . There has been no word on the injured student's condition .
City officials say 19-year-old Christopher A Melendez was arrested and charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child for his alleged role in the incident . Oftentimes , when these students are facing this heinous and violent act of challenge that goes on in connection with schools , today , there is a young teenager at the root of it .
We're not saying that all teenagers , but oftentimes it is a young teenager responsible for bringing this kind of mayhem into the school environment .
We are hoping that the victim is going to make a well recovery and , as for the parent of the victim , continue to take practical steps to get that peace that you need and try not to be overly anxious as you await to see how things are going to turn out regarding your child . Well guys , we have reached the final two stories of episode number 37 . This next story is indeed on the wild side . When it came to my desk , I found it to be very unique , to say the least . We have had stories like this before on the show , but this one is just a little bit different .

A Marion County Elementary School principal was arrested Sunday on allegations of putting a student in a chokehold , striking him with a cable , twisting his ankle , slapping him in the face and preventing him from leaving a classroom for over 40 minutes .
The Marion County Sheriff's Office said Dante Akeem Prophet , 33 , the principal at Destiny Leadership Academy in Ocala , was arrested on charges of aggravated child abuse and false imprisonment of a child under 13 years of age . According to the sheriff's office , a deputy on Friday investigated a call about a physical disturbance between a student and the principal .
During the investigation , surveillance video from the classroom shows Prophet preventing the child from leaving the room for over 40 minutes . Deputies said the video captured Prophet grabbing the student , restraining him on the ground and employing a chokehold .

According to the school's website , destiny Leadership Academies offers a K-5th grade education with Christian principles and character building strategies For the parents . This is a devastating .
This is the worst possible thing a parent could learn about their child , especially in a school that is supposed to encourage religious value . It's frightening , it's damaging and it's scary when a parent has to hear these things , because if this wasn't stopped , how far could this have gone ?
We're wishing a well recovery for this student , but if you are a friend of this victim , try your best to be a support , protect yourself and if you see something , say something immediately to protect yourself . Well , we reached our final story in connection with episode number 37 .
And this next story is a bit on the gruesome side Bethlehem cop assigned to middle school charged with statutory sex assault . We're now in Bethlehem , pennsylvania , as our location . A police officer has been charged with sex crimes related to his job as a school resource officer in Bethlehem .
Costas Alestis , 43 , is facing charges of statutory sex assault and voluntary deviant sexual intercourse with a person under 16 , aggravated indecent assault , sexual contact with a student , criminal use of a communication facility and invasion of privacy .
According to online court records , the charges were filed on Wednesday morning ahead of a planned news conference by the Northampton County District Attorney to discuss the case . He was assigned the school resource officer at East Hills Middle School , where he was also a soccer coach . The Bethlehem Area School District said in a statement Tuesday that Alestis was placed on leave by both the district and the police department .

Frightening , realistic , constant things that happen in the school environment . Parents continue to be aware . Talk to your children about ways they can protect themselves from sexual predators Without instilling fear in their hearts . Reassure them that you love them , that you care for them and that you value them .
