Parental Example and Children's Influence

Speaker 1

this is the everyday podcast for the everyday people . Guys , welcome back to another episode of red . It's the everyday podcast for the everyday people . This week has been packed , so there's a lot of holiday shopping going on in New Jersey .

A lot of people are getting ready for that time of year , and I find that to be interesting , because we put so much emphasis on one day of the year . But when it comes down to our everyday quality of living , how are we measuring up ? Are we allowing holidays to dictate when we're going to be good people versus people that are not so good ?

In this particular episode , we're going to dive in to how parent examples can affect and have an effect on their children . We're also going to be able to identify 10 stories that will alert us to some of the things happening in the school environment .

In this episode in particular , it's important that we keep an open mind , because it requires all of us to take a look at ourselves from an objective viewpoint and to make sure that we're striving to do our very best and become our very best each and every day . I know , myself included , there's work to be done .

There are things I can iron out in my personality to make me a better person , and so if I can share those things with you guys here on the show , then I find that it will be most refreshing and encouraging . We've been discussing for the past seven weeks 12 secrets in connection with the success of a family .

Well , today we are introducing quality number eight , or secret number eight . And that is your example , parents . How is your relationship with your children ? With your children ? Oftentimes you'll find that your relationship with your children is dictated by how you treat them and how you live your life and what you do around your children .

Notice how our example as humans , as adults and as parents can have an effect on children . Here's what it means . Parents who set the example live by what they teach . For instance , you could hardly expect your son to be truthful if he overheard . You say tell him I'm not home .

When you do not want to speak to an individual , a common saying is do as I say , not as I do , but that approach doesn't work with children . They are like sponges that absorb everything we say and do , and they will tell us when our example isn't consistent with what we try to teach them . That's a parent named David whom is being quoted .

Have you ever had that experience ? Perhaps you told your son or daughter to do something and you thought that they were going to do it , but then you were slapped in the face with the reality check .

It doesn't always mean that a child is being disrespectful simply because your words don't line up with the actions that you're telling them to pursue in their lives . So what can you do as a parent ? Consider this principle . Do you the one preaching ? Do not steal , do you steal ?

Imagine what life is like through the eyes of your child as they watch you make choices day after day . Here's why it matters . Children and even teenagers are influenced more by their parents than by anyone else , including their peers .

That means you are in the primary position to guide your children , to guide your children in the best possible way , provided , of course , that you practice what you preach . Here's something that Nicole adds we can repeat something a hundred times and wonder if our child is listening , but the one time we don't do as we say , the child will point it out .

Children pay attention to everything that we do , even when we don't think that they do , and it's so true . There are times when my parents have asked me that famous rhetorical question are you listening to me , sean ? Are you really hearing what your father and I have to say ? And I'll respond . Of course I am .

And they'll say , no , you're not , because X , y , z , but the reality is we as people , as humans , as children , we are designed to be influenced that way . So never take for granted the fact that your child is listening to you . It's very important that you keep in mind the next principle that true wisdom is not hypocritical .

So it's imperative that you develop a bond with your child so that they can trust you and that they can be able to learn and grow from you . As from your example , what can you do ? One examine your own standards . What type of entertainment do you watch ? How do you treat your spouse and children ? What kind of friends do you have ?

Are you a thoughtful person ? Are you thoughtful of others ? In short , are you the kind of person you want your children to become ? That's a startling question , isn't it ? Most people today have children without giving any additional thought to these questions . So why is it important that you do so as a parent ? Because you love your child .

If you're not going to do it for yourself , you do so as a parent Because you love your child . If you're not going to do it for yourself , do it for them , because they truly will benefit and have a more balanced and stable childhood . Here's what one woman adds by the name of Christine .

My husband and I don't hold our children to a standard that we ourselves don't live by . Are you guilty of that ? Do you want your children to do things that you weren't willing to do at your age , under reasonable circumstances ?

Of course , this doesn't mean that you don't help your children to acquire good grades , teach them basic hygiene and ethics , but rather it focuses on being reasonable , with the fact that we are all humans striving to do our very best , and your children are no different . Christine says this because she recognizes the power of being reasonable .

Here's another thing that can be of assistance Apolog , apologize for your mistakes . Your children already know that you are not perfect . By saying I'm sorry when appropriate , both your spouse and you will benefit . For example , when you say I'm sorry to your spouse and when you apologize to your children , you provide a valuable lesson in honesty and humility .

Never take those things for granted . Today , people think that it's all too easy to overlook a person's feelings , and it's true , but when you practice true , genuine humility and you show beautiful love , well , the family will thrive and survive .

Here's what Robin says Our children need to hear us admit when we are wrong and they need to hear us apologize for our error . If we don't , they will only learn to cover over their mistakes . What a powerful incentive for parents to not only cultivate humility but also to be able to learn from their mistakes .

Here's our final comment from Wendell as parents , we have the greatest influence on our children and our example is the greatest tool we have , because they see it all the time . It's the book that's always open , the lesson that's always being taught .

Yes , I can definitely agree with Wendell that many parents have put these things into action and have raised , and are continuing to raise , responsible , loving children .

The children are happy and they thrive , not because they follow everything that their parents say , but because they imitate all of the good example that their parents say , but because they imitate all of the good example that their parents put before them .

So keep those points in mind , guys , as we move throughout our episode and we're uncovering stories that this theme can definitely connect to .

Social Media Rumors and School Controversies

Now this week , we know that the musical debut movie of Wicked has come out into theaters and there has been a disgusting rumor circulating on TikTok and this is why I hate social media with a passion , because it's often used or misused , rather and abused . So I'm going to set the tide straight . So I'm going to set the tide straight .

I'm going to clear the air , as it were , and make a national announcement on my podcast , giving homage to the filth and lies that thrive on social media . I guess I misused the word homage , but rather I'm going to slice through the nonsense . Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande wicked pay disparity rumor debunked .

Yeah , some on social media have been saying Ariana Grande got paid more for Wicked than her co-star Cynthia Erivo , but the movie studio is setting the record straight . There have been rumors that Grande was paid as much as $15 million for her role as Glinda and Erivo received $1 million for playing Elphaba .

The studio is denying that Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on Internet fodder . A spokesperson for Universal said in a statement shared with several outlets the women received equal pay for their work on Wicked . Cnn has reached out to Universal for comment .

Both women are being hailed for their performances in the John Chu-directed musical , audiences have been flocking to theaters to enjoy what is the first part in a planned two-film franchise . The movie box office hit $162 million during its opening weekend . Why are we talking about this story , even though it's a little bit out of my niche ?

Well , because you get tired of the lies and the filth and the disgust and the corrupt . So this is a lesson for my podcast members and subscribers and followers Don't believe internet fodder . It does not always work out for one's benefit . At fodder , it does not always work out for one's benefit .

In this next story , we are venturing right down into our normal niche . We're focused now on some mishappenings at this school . Buckhorn middle school teacher arrested for child abuse placed on administrative leave . We're now in Madison County , alabama . A Buckhorn Middle School teacher has been released from jail after she was arrested on a child abuse charge .

According to jail records , as a result of the investigation into child abuse reported at Buckhorn Middle , detectives with the Madison County Sheriff's Office arrested 60-year-old Karen Yvette Howard . She was charged with torture and willful abuse of a child .

In a post made on Sunday , mcso said that a Sheriff's Office school resource officer at Buckhorn Middle School received a complaint from school administrators about an alleged incident involving a special needs student and a special needs teacher on November the 19th . The complaint alleged that the teacher may have assaulted the student .

The Madison County School System initiated its own investigation with MCSO . The school provided assistance to the investigation , including statements and video footage that helped give insight to the incident . According to jail records , howard was booked into the Madison County Jail on November 23rd at 10.49 am with a $5,000 bond .

Jail records show Howard was released later in the day at 1228 pm . It's interesting how some people , some administrators , take matters into their own hands and think that it's okay to abuse other people's kids . Now I know for a fact that this is a devastating set of news for the parents and the family .

Mcss spokesperson confirmed that Howard is currently on administrative leave while the school district investigates allegations brought against her . Even though she's on leave , there still is a possibility that she won't be called to action for everything that she's done . If you have any additional information , please call 256-722-7181 .

We're hoping that the victim is able to recover and move forward past this trauma . The following story that we're going to discuss . It takes place in Greenville , south Carolina . I have family in South Carolina , but the thing that we come upon on this podcast .

The goal is to help to insight and to encourage all who come in contact with it , to incite and to encourage all who come in contact with it . 12-year-old attempts suicide after alleged bullying at Greenville County Middle School . As was mentioned earlier , greenville , south Carolina , is our location .

A Simpsonville family has filed a lawsuit claiming Greenville County Schools was negligent in responding to bullying and harassment claims when it comes to their now 14-year-old daughter . The suit claims the lack of response from administrators , faculty and staff led to their daughter's attempted suicide .

The mother of the child sat down with WYFF News 4's Destiny Chance to share the story . Destiny chance to share the story . Some of the details in connection with the story may be difficult for individuals to listen to . Ty is the mother of Kalia Turner , a former student at Dr Finney's J Fisher Middle School in Greenville , south Carolina .

She was 11 and 12 years old at the time she attended Fisher . A 24-page lawsuit Kalia's family filed this summer details multiple occasions where Kalia said another student physically assaulted her and called her a roach and a man .

There was no less than seven to nine times that I myself personally reached out to the school and I had the emails and half the time they didn't respond back and if they did , it wasn't with anything of any sustenance . There was never any resolution . Ty Turner said there was never any resolution , ty Turner said .

Then , on March 17 , 2023 , ty Turner said that became a day she will never forget . That evening she found her then 12-year-old daughter hanging from a belt in her bedroom at home . Turner said she's a woman of God and she heard a whisper from God to praise him .

Turner said Kalia was in a coma thereafter for weeks , ultimately staying in the hospital for 101 days . In the meantime , turner said each day is a fighting chance , as she keeps Faith alive . They've started a GoFundMe for a van to get Kalia out of the house for better therapy . An Amazon list was also created .

The article does not specify as to what happened after she was in the hospital , but as of now , it does mention that she requires around the clock care that , for the most part , is administered by her father and her mother , and they've gotten the help of a nurse about three days a week . People think that bullying is innocent fun .

That is something that persons can just say and do , but today , today , there are differences . Bullying has taken another approach . It's very harsh , it's very forceful , it's very angry , it's very aggressive . It's not like the Disney movie bullying where it's like hey , bro , give me your lunch money , give me your $1.50 .

And then at some point in the film or later In real life you can reason with a bully . You can find out hey , he's from an abusive home . Hey , he's growing up poor . Hey , he's neglected .

There's a reason for the bullying , but now today people are more so prone to do things simply because of how you look and your race , are hoping , really , really striving , I should say , to be able to be a support to this young girl and the family whom is affected by this very difficult story .

We wish you all of the best , guys there down in South Carolina . In the following story , note how far one administrator went in connection with dealing with certain students . Assistant principal charged with molesting eight students at California Elementary School . An assistant principal has been accused of molesting eight children at an elementary school in California .

David Lane Braff Jr was charged with 17 felony counts of lewd acts on eight students between the ages of 6 and 10 at McKevitt Elementary School in Santa Paula on Friday November 22, . According to a news release . Braff , 42 , is accused of having carried out the assaults on the minors from 2015 to 2019 , when he worked as a counselor at the school .

He worked as an assistant principal at Ingenium Charter Middle School in Los Angeles at the time of his arrest .

Childhood Crimes and School Violence

Braff is accused of a number of special allegations and aggravating factors in the criminal complaint , per the release , including that the crimes involved planning and sophistication and that the children entrusted to the defendant's care were particularly vulnerable .

In the release , district Attorney Eric Nasarenko said the defendant is alleged to have molested multiple elementary school children over a number of years , shattering the trust placed in him by parents , educators and the public .

Braff is also believed to have worked at other schools in the Southern California area and to have volunteered for youth-based organizations amid the time of his alleged abuse . Per the release , he currently remains in custody at Ventura County Jail on bail of $3 million . The case is being prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Brant Nybecker .

Braff will next appear at Ventura County Superior Court over his criminal charges on Monday , november the 25th , which was a few days past . Anyone with information tied to this case is now being asked to contact Ventura County District Attorney Investigator Greg Webb at 805-477-1627 .

The sad thing about this story is that this is a case in which the person was caught , but there are so many stories in which the individual is still at large and is harming other young children and victims . For the parents involved in this story continue to rally together and support one another during these difficult , dark and stressful times .

In our following story we're going to dive deep into vandalism and we're going to be able to see as to how foolish the act of vandalism truly is . School closed around 50 windows broken by vandals at South Baltimore High School . Baltimore , maryland , is our location . A group of people broke into a South Baltimore High School and destroyed classrooms .

Police said the damage , including around 50 broken windows , was so extensive that Digital Harbor High School had to cancel classes Monday . The school reopened for students Tuesday morning . Had to cancel classes Monday . The school reopened for students Tuesday morning .

Police said vandals broke in sometime late Sunday night through a set of doors and destroyed parts of the school . Repair crews have been on campus cutting and fitting dozens of glass windows that the vandals smashed . Police are working to identify the vandals through surveillance video .

So far , they said it was a group of at least five people and they broke in around 10 pm Sunday . Teachers told 11 News that the group damaged some classrooms . With the magnitude of the incident , the district is still figuring out if students will return Tuesday .

The students were supposed to have Thanksgiving meals on Monday and the school is making sure that that still happens . Students were able to pick up their meals for Thanksgiving Monday or Tuesday .

Now this took place by date , on the 26th of November , and it's really unfortunate because this is a perfect example of someone doing something to you or to your property or environment and there's nothing you can do to be able to stop or diffuse what just happened and the results thereafter . It's really heartbreaking .

When people do things like this , they just take it upon themselves to just act wickedly and with violence . This next story is tragic .

This next story does tug at the heartstrings , but we are confident that , just like all of our other stories , we will continue to be able to grow on this show and share them with you in a positive , practical way on this show and share them with you in a positive , practical way .

Teen faces , possible sentence of life without parole and arson and the slayings of four in lancaster . The man accused of shooting four people and setting fire to the house in which they were sleeping in lancaster , has been charged with multiple felonies , including murder .

Miguel Diego Sandoval , 19 , is accused of entering a home in the 44th-500th block of Tabler Avenue in the early morning hours of November 16th and shooting four people inside . He then allegedly set fire to the house . He then allegedly set fire to the house .

Three people Edwin Garcia and siblings Christine and John V , were declared dead at the scene , while Matthew Montebello succumbed to his wounds at a local hospital . All four were in their 20s . A fifth person in the home is a 16-year-old girl and she was not hurt was a 16-year-old girl .

Sandoval faces numerous charges and special allegations Four counts of murder , one count of residential burglary with a person present . One count of arson of an inhabited structure . A special allegation that the victims were killed by means of lying in wait . A special allegation that multiple murders were committed . A special allegation that the defendant used a handgun .

A special allegation that another person was present during the burglary . Sandoval is scheduled to be arraigned at the michael antinovic antelope valley courthouse on january 27th and he is being held without bail at the twin towers correctional facility . If convicted , he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole . I'm at a loss for words here , guys .

I can't imagine what the family is going through . I do know that when your relative is murdered , there are a series of emotions that overtake you .

There are so many things that you want to do , there are so many things that you want to say to the individual responsible , and it's true that everyone deals with grief differently , but we recognize there are different types of grief .

When I lost my brother to murder , it was one of the most devastating moments of my life , if not the most , because it was unfair . I thought we were going to see him again and then we just well , we never saw him again . To the families , the families of those related to these victims , please accept our condolences .

From the sincerity and the deepest part of my heart , I want to say that we hope that you get through this and that you continue to endure the best possible way that you can . Our following story has been updated .

Sometimes I don't jump right onto a story , but I make sure I have everything that I need so that I can be able to give you guys the information 100% . Authorities charged two 16-year-olds in assault at Canton South High School .

Two 16-year-old Canton South High School students have been charged in connection with a disturbing incident that took place Monday inside a high school boy's bathroom . One teen was charged with assault and theft and a second was charged with assault .

The charges come after an investigation by the Starr County Sheriff's Office into the incident that was videotaped by at least two students and was circulating on social media . The videos show more than a dozen high school students gathering around another male student inside the bathroom . In the video , one of the boys accuses the other of snitching .

The boy says he did nothing . Another student is seen unzipping the victim's jacket and removing it . As he tells him to take off his clothes , he yells at him to remove his shoes as he rips them off of his feet . He attempts to take the boy's shirt off , but another student urges him to stop saying we aren't doing that .

A student can be heard yelling welcome to Canton South . As the incident unfolds , the victim repeatedly tells the boys he didn't do anything . The same boy who removed the victim's jackets and shoes shouts at his friend to hit him and if he didn't he would start swinging . Another boy slaps the kid before the other joins in punching him in the face several times .

One of the boys can be heard yelling to stop hitting the victim . During the nearly two-minute video , students can be heard taunting the victim while others exit the bathroom as the incident begins to escalate . It is unclear if any of the students went to get help from school officials .

The school says this , and I quote the students will be disciplined , consistent with school board policies . The students will be disciplined , consistent with school board policies . The district is cooperating with the ongoing investigation by the Stark County Sheriff's Office .

When this video is not connected to the article , so there is no way that I could be able to show you the content of the video . If you are able to find the video , if you were a student that knows about this circumstance , and if you do go to Canton South , hit me up .

Let me know what the experience was like in connection with the violence that you're experiencing at school . I can't say that there wasn't violence during the time that I was in school . I'm 32 years old , but the way people carry it out today that I was in school , I'm 32 years old , but the way people carry it out today , they're looking for blood .

They're really looking to hurt someone , and that's the scary part about these stories they just don't care anymore . We hope that the victim is okay . There's no indication as to whether he was treated at the hospital or what was left or how they left him .

After this horrendous and horrific incident , here's our following story Cheatham Middle School must change its mascot and logo after a copyright warning from University of Cincinnati . We're in Ashland City , tennessee . After more than two decades , cheatham Middle School is forced to find a new mascot .

The University of Cincinnati accuses the school of breaking copyright and licensing rules by adopting UC's identity . It sent the school a cease and desist letter . Like at the university , the Middle Tennessee middle school sports teams are also known as the Bearcats . On Monday , when I went to the school in Ashland City , I met Savannah Stevenson and her father .

They're going to change it because the University of Cincinnati is basically going to sue the school if they don't change it , said Savannah Stevenson , a fifth grade student . According to a Facebook post , cheatham Middle School asked the university if they could stop using the CPAL logo and continue being the Bearcats .

In a note to the community , the middle school's athletic department said UC also owns a sports licensing copyright for the word . It is up to the brands in this situation , the university to monitor and control the use of trademarks .

Under the law , unauthorized users may be given the option to either discontinue use or enter into a licensing agreement that controls the use . I would say that it's one of those circumstances in which you can be reasonable .

It's not really going to hurt anyone if the logo isn't trademarked , or if it's well , the logo is trademarked , but if it's not being used in a negative way , what's really the harm of the middle school using it ? Being used in a negative way , what's really the harm of the middle school using it ?

It's interesting how people pick and choose how they want to enforce certain laws and rights that they have in certain circumstances . Hopefully , the middle school is able to figure it out , because it is a really cool logo , but other than that , the college does have the authority to exercise their use of the trademark from a legal perspective and standpoint .

Thought that was a very interesting story , though , to say the least . Well , guys , we've reached our final two stories of our 13th episode . I failed to mention that we are here . Episode 13 this year is flying , isn't it true ? Two full years on youtube . Here's our second to last story .

Last story former meriden school employee accused of exchanging inappropriate messages with middle school student . Our location is meriden , connecticut . A woman who worked as a climate specialist at a meriden middle school has been charged after allegedly exchanging inappropriate text messages with a student .

According to police , tamara Johnson , 37 , turned herself in last week after being contacted by police . She has been charged with risk of injury to a minor , impairing the morals of a minor . She has been released on a $25,000 surety bond . Johnson exchanged what police described as inappropriate text messages with a Lincoln middle school student .

According to a job description from Meriden Public Schools , a climate specialist works to create positive school environment . So there's that same theme that we're dealing with . Right , why does a member of the education facility or an administrator rather , have the telephone number of a student ? Some of these stories are just they're cruising for a bruising .

I know in certain religious cultures it's not customary for the men and the women to interact . There has to be some boundaries in place so that these things don't happen . There's a lot of ways these particular stories could go if there were additional precautions put in place to protect all parties that are involved .

Child Safety and Parental Vigilance

So our final story , another story that's unique but powerful . And it's very , very heavy , very heavy story . Here's our final story , guys man charged with accosting Tapan middle school student walking home from school . Our location now is Ann Harbor .

A man was charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes after he allegedly approached students outside of Ann Harbor's Tapan Middle School . Police said Edward Newland , 24 , of Ypsilanti , is held in the Washtenaw County Jail on $100,000 bond after his arraignment Wednesday November 27th in 14A District Court .

Ann Harbor Police said in a statement Police arrested the defendant on a probation violation related to an incident with a Tapan student on November 22nd . The student provided police with the suspect's license plate . During the investigation , police determined Newland was involved in a November 18 incident with another Tapan student who was walking home from school .

Police said he allegedly tried to convince that student to get into his vehicle . Police said Principal Thais Parnell sent messages to families this week about unwanted engagement on the premises . He adds that a man tried to engage with two students on foot near Circle K , then separately tried to convince two others on different days to get in his car .

If convicted of accosting a minor , newland would face up to four years in prison . I was talking to my bus aide the other day about this and I said to them I'm not going to have any kids in which I can't be able to meet them after school and drop them off in the morning .

When we take these precautionary measures , we can really be able to see what's going on , what's affecting our children and how best to protect them . True , it's not always realistic to think that a parent can be there under such circumstances due to their work schedule , but it really is worth us putting forward a more diligent effort to protect our young people .

So , guys , that was episode 13 of the Everyday Podcast . Remember , parents , you are the example , the best friend your child can ever have .

We love being able to bring you , guys , these stories and we are going to be with you each and every single week of the school year , every single week of the school year as we enter 2025 , there is so much to be done during these difficult days . We call life Other than that . Guys , we wish you all the best . This has been RED .
