We have some top stories tonight Story that are going to leave you flabbergasted , story that are going to leave you bamboozled .
And story that are going to leave you looking for answers Answers to questions you may have such as why is it that school bus drivers are paid such a low wage ? Another question you might have is what would possess a man to shoot himself in front of two children at an elementary school . Well , without further ado , we're going to get right back into it .
R-e-d the everyday podcast for the everyday people . It just got a nice ring to it . It just has a nice . It just rolls off the tongue . Disgruntled ex-husband shoots , kills himself in front of two students at Farnell Middle School . This is Tampa , florida .
A man described by Hillsborough County Sheriff , chad Cronusster , as divorced and disgruntled , took his own life at Farnell Middle School on Friday morning . H-c-s-o identified the man Friday night as Jason Alex Layman , 52 , and confirmed that he took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot . According to the Sheriff's Office , layman's family has been notified .
According to Sheriff Cronusster , layman did not raise any red flags initially as he was in the drop-off lane for the school's early start program , which begins at 6am . He then began walking toward the back of the school where the program takes place . He stops , pulls out a firearm and , with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head , he takes his own life .
State of the sheriff . According to Sheriff Cronusster , there were two children behind him who had just been dropped off for the day . I am so proud of these children middle school aged children . Sheriff Cronusster said they didn't panic . They fought through their own trauma , was worried about what was occurring here is an active shooter .
They didn't know if it was a suicide or what was happening , so they valiantly run as fast as they can to the office notifying the office that someone had just fired a firearm and took their own life . Upon learning of the shooting , the sheriff said the school utilized its emergency notification system and immediately went into lockdown .
He said they immediately , along with the deputy , raised to the scene this disgruntled , divorced husband . They said that maybe it was an act , but Intel lets us know , further research , that he was the ex-husband of a staff member employee of the school . Now we're not blaming anybody , of course that's not what we do in this podcast . We're not blaming anybody .
However , it does beg the question what was this person thinking was going to happen ? What was the result of him coming to the school and doing something like that ? This video shows you how mentally unstable certain persons are this day and age .
Students were released in an orderly fashion and they have made sure that all of the students were accounted for before everyone was dismissed . A very tragic story to get our podcast started off today . I've never seen anything like it .
The stories or the things that kids are going through today are becoming more and more and more prevalent and more and more heinous . When I was in school , I had to deal with small things . The most we would get out of our school were two parents fighting .
But now you have to deal with people killing themselves on school property , people molesting children on school property and so many other different things that these students are dealing with today that we just didn't have to necessarily deal with back in my time .
Our follow-up story School bus driver held a hero after quick thinking avoids horrific accident with students on board Gotta give a shout out . This is my home state , new Jersey , and this is Edison . Not too far Now as a school bus driver I've driven some contracts for Edison .
I've driven for some companies out that way , but this story I will say I wasn't at all surprised . In connection with what company was responsible ? Here A school bus driver in New Jersey is being held a hero after a last minute maneuver prevented what could have been a horrific accident .
Edison police chief Thomas Bryant says the bus went around a curve on Raleigh Road and lost control . Wednesday morning the brakes on the bus were apparently busted . The driver made miraculous moves to avoid a huge ditch , smashing a fence and slamming the corner of a house to prevent a horrific accident with 30 John Adams middle school students on board .
The bus came to a rest in an empty field . The driver is being held as a hero . The first officers on the scene realized she did all she could to protect the children . At least two students on the bus suffered a minor injury . Authorities say no one in the home was injured . Newscopter 7 was over the scene .
Debris littered the yard of the house and middle school students could be seen standing together near the bus . The children who were okay were taken to school on another bus with a medical staff and therapy dog were waiting .
Now this school bus that was involved , this company here , this is Joy Transport , and I've heard things about Joy over the years and I'm not one to just believe everything that I hear . I like to make sure that I test the statements first and then make my decisions .
And when this came into the news and they're telling me that Joy Transport was responsible , I'm like forget about it , forget about it . I already know what Joy is capable of and clearly in this case there's going to be a lot for them to be cautious of . Now the DOT is involved .
They're going to thoroughly examine the bus to see as to whether the driver's story matches up with malfunctioning brakes . Also , too , I'm sure they're going to evaluate that pre-trip .
In the state of New Jersey , every bus driver must do a pre-trip , and this is why Because now there's no accountability or there's accountability issue If the driver did the pre-trip and didn't catch the brakes , the driver might be responsible , but if the driver didn't do the pre-trip and didn't catch the brakes , then the driver is responsible .
On the other hand , it could have been a scenario in which the driver did check the brakes , the company failed maintenance somehow and the brakes finally gave out at an unforeseen time . Whatever the case is , we hope that this gets resolved in connection with other stories developing around the situation here in Edison , new Jersey .
Just want to give you guys a nice shout out . So we were talking a great deal about teachers and how they're supposed to protect students today , and many parents are concerned , and I get that .
I understand why parents are concerned , because the people that you entrust to your children every day , the people that are supposed to have your children's back , the people that are supposed to care about your children , as it were well , they're the very ones that are showing themselves to not have your children's best interest at heart .
In this next story we're going to be able to examine just what that means Sexual Study Parties allegedly hosted by Farmington Basketball Coach Sparks and Investigation In Michigan . Study parties turned sexual .
According to sources close to the alleged victims of a boys basketball coach at Farmington High School , the illicit and potentially criminal behavior allegedly happened at the coach's home in Detroit . One male student reports the sleepovers took a sick and twisted turn when in one instance the coach was standing over one of the kids naked .
Detroit police are investigating , telling local authorities if it's being handled by a special victim's unit . They are calling these allegations of sexual assaults plural . A spokesperson with DPD says SVU has conducted a number of forensic interviews and conducted careful analysis of physical evidence .
Now they aren't naming the coach at this moment because of now no formal charges have been filed , but the Farmington Public Schools District said in a statement upon receiving notice of this allegation , the third party coach was immediately terminated and issued a no-trust pass notice banning him from all Farmington Public Schools facilities and events .
The case has been turned over to law enforcement while our administrative team is conducting an internal investigation Once is too much . That's the way I feel about this , said Anitra Gaines .
Gaines , a therapist , says the facts laid out so far is pretty textbook for how sexual predators use their positions to prey Kids are told that teachers and coaches and people inside their schools are safe people to talk to . She said Some people unfortunately use that against the kid .
It's impactful in telling that , multiple children have spoken out , especially given the dynamics of the victims and suspects , all being males . Teenagers , physically especially males typically don't really want to talk about a lot of things , gaines said , and they don't want to be seen as weak and they don't want to be misconstrued as something that they're not .
This story here was one that really rings devastation because once again , I know that there's this bond that teammates have with coaches and those who are training them and those authoritative figures . But why are you in the house ? Why were you involved with the coach on such a level ?
We're mentioning here that there are two other coaches involved in this scenario who may have known about these sexual parties but refused to say anything , helping the other coach in connection with such activity . As this story develops , we'll continue to update you guys , but again we're so sorry for the boys involved in such a scenario
¶ Incidents at Schools
. The reason for that is because no one should have to go through such devastation , especially when you're trying to do something for yourself . Working out , exercising , getting yourself in a bodily trained way , being able to be involved in those sports , all add up to just being able to relieve stress and pressure . That's why people get involved in sports .
Nothing wrong with that . When you find yourself in a situation like this , trying to do the right thing , it can be quite devastating . Today , I would say that parents are under a lot of pressure .
One of the things that I find to be of interest for parents is that they're not sure how to deal with this pressure and sometimes , when they release the stress that they're under this pressure , it turns out into developments such as this they're arrested after bringing multiple weapons on grounds of Columbus Middle School . Columbus , ohio .
A man was arrested after bringing multiple weapons on the grounds of a West Columbus Middle School . Wednesday afternoon the Columbus Division of Police received a call from Westmore Middle School just after 2.20pm on a report of a man who entered the school while in possession of a handgun and a machete .
The caller told police that the suspect had the gun and a holster on his hip and the machete attached to his leg . They were able to identify the suspect as 43-year-old Brian Johnson . Officers arrived at the scene just after 2.35pm and located Johnson outside of the school , but he was no longer in possession of either weapon .
According to court documents , school staff and other witnesses said that Johnson entered the school to pick up his child , who was a student there , but quickly exited and put the handgun and machete inside his car . Johnson was detained without incident .
During the investigation , police recovered a machete , a hatchet and a Glock manufactured BB gun from Johnson's vehicle that was parked at the school . Johnson has been charged with illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone . So some stories , there's just no words for them . I'm not sure what possessed Mr Johnson to bring these weapons to school .
Because of the way things are going in the world that we live in today , the dynamic is a bit different . Parents may feel threatened or concerned or even worried when they have to pick up their children at school , because they're reasoning what happens if there's a school shooter .
At the same time , parents also want to be mindful with that reasoning that if they do things like this , then they themselves become the threat . So just be mindful of some of those things that might occur .
When being concerned about protecting yourself , you want to keep a balance , so that way you can protect not only yourself but your child and those around you . Our next story Humboldt Elementary School replaces Halloween themed parties with fall themed parties to include all students .
When I heard this story me personally I thought that it was endearing and no , I'm a person who chooses not to celebrate Halloween for my own purposes , my own choices in life , etc . Etc .
But I just thought it was interesting how some parents responded to the fact that this school wanted to be able to compensate everyone in connection with those who have different circumstances . A Humboldt Elementary School is switching from its usual Halloween themed events to fall themed festivities for the best interest of students .
According to Humboldt Community School District Superintendent , jim Murray , it was mentioned in a statement to KCCI . The decision was brought to light because , they mentioned , usually they get the kids to come in one day and have a Halloween party and they get to put on their costumes and just have fun with their friends .
The newsletter then mentioned that there are students who don't celebrate Halloween due to religious or cultural reasons and some students don't show up to school that day . It's really unfortunate for the school to allow a few parents with religious rules to dictate what kids are going to do for having fun .
This is a parent , huffman said , and one of the things that I'm really big on , guys , is respect . I don't have to agree with you in order to show you a measure of respect . You don't have to agree with me to show me a measure of respect .
Even if you feel like your kids should be able to participate in Halloween and have that event , there's nothing wrong with that . That's fine .
But keep in mind that school is an environment for everyone to feel loved and respected , and so if it's not going to be beneficial for the majority , then in certain cases , the school district may feel as though it's reasonable to not have it for anyone , because some people do have religious views , cultural views and it .
Yeah , you may not do anything education wise on that day you're going to school , but at the same time , the goal is to create respect , because when you're raising a child and I don't know if people have forgotten this when you're raising a child , the goal is to be able to raise a responsible adult , one that shows respect to other persons even when they may
not necessarily agree with them . So if you , if the school , is teaching these values to kids now and implementing these characteristics and kids now along with their parents , then you make way for a better , responsible adult . Some additional reasons that the school may mention of not having Halloween themed parties is that affordability of costumes .
With things going up today and I don't , I don't look at costumes , there's no need for me to . If milk is going up to almost $8 a gallon , I'm pretty sure Halloween costumes are escalating as well .
So , yes , for some people they may view this as a negative , but it's really nice that the school trying to cooperate with everyone so that everyone can be involved and feel comfortable on on that specific holiday .
In this next story , though , I don't think these three persons had in mind making anyone feel comfortable at Storm Lake Elementary School 311 year olds facing charges after lockdown at Storm Lake Elementary School . This is Iowa , and there's a lot of activity in this show specifically about Iowa .
The last story that I covered was in Iowa previous to this , and now we're going to be able to see as to what's going on here in Storm Lake . Police say a school lockdown in Storm Lake , iowa , was caused by an 11 year old who falsely reported a shooting .
The Storm Lake Police Department says just before 8am they got two 911 calls that requested police to Storm Lake Elementary School and reported a shooting . The elementary school was placed on lockdown while Storm Lake Police officers and one of East Stutt County Sheriff's deputies were sent to the building .
Following an investigation , police determined there was no evidence of a credible threat . They also determined the call was made by an 11 year old student at Storm Lake Middle School . Police say that 11 year old boy was taken to the police department for questioning and was charged with third degree harassment , false reports to a public entity and willful disturbance .
All three charges are misdemeanors . Additionally , police charged two other 11 year old boys in connection to this incident . They are facing charges of aiding and abetting harassment , aiding and abetting false reports to a public entity and aiding and abetting willful disturbance . These are all misdemeanor charges .
All three boys were transported to the Cherokee Youth Emergency Service Center . Police say this incident remains on investigation and more arrests are possible . Here's my question or here's my feedback .
A couple of months ago I covered a story in connection with the choices that young people make , and one commentator may mention to me that young people shouldn't be held accountable for XYZ because they're not fully developed . Well , here in Iowa , it doesn't matter what your age , apparently if you are caught in the act , then they're going to take the action .
One of the things that people have to realize today is that the level of entertainment , the level of social media , it's all a form of educating young people today , and so you can't treat a child the same exact way you would have treated them in the 60s or the 70s or the 80s .
Now there is so much entertainment , so much education rushing to these young minds that they're acting on .
Some may be acting on it out of poor association or peer pressure , but there are some who are willfully acting on these things , and so there's going to have to be consequences to their actions , no matter what the situation , and that's just something that we're all getting accustomed to .
When you look at a kid , you don't want to think , wow , that kid's going to be doing something bad or that kid's going to be a danger or a threat to me .
But in order to be aware and safe and protect ourselves , we have to look at the entire situation and understand that it doesn't matter now what a person's age is , background , male , female everyone has the potential to do us harm if we're not careful .
So we need to really be careful of that and I'm sure that's what the mentality was in connection with the school district who had to report that they knew what was going on with these 11 year olds . Here's what's going on in Fort Wayne Elementary School a student arrested for battery . This is Fort Wayne , indiana .
A student at Haley Elementary School was arrested Thursday morning for battery . According to Fort Wayne police . Fwp Dean confirmed to officers who responded just before 9 45 am to reports of a battery in progress at the elementary school in Maple Crest Road .
Staff told police at the scene a student was throwing items around and battered a staff member as they were trying to contain the student in the room . Police said they arrested the student for battery . No other details were provided .
Then , going back to what we were just talking about , again , there's so much anger and aggression in the young people today and I know a few myself personally and I talk with them , students who I come in contact with because you know , again , as a bus driver , you want to try to do the best you can , by your students or your passengers and , depending on how
they act , some of them can become like family . And so I like what ? What makes you so angry ? Like , why are you guys so upset all the time ? And the number one thing is that these persons will respond these young people , these kids eight , nine , 10 , 11 , 12 , no one cares about me , no one cares what I do , no one cares what I say .
There's no structure in the home anymore . Parents are divorced . The background of the of the circumstance is just . You wouldn't believe some of the things that these kids are dealing with right in their homes .
And so when I was thinking about my niche and I was thinking about what I was going to be able to bring to TikTok , bring to YouTube , bring to these platforms , it had to make sense . Kids , teenagers , young adults , elementary , middle school , high school . That is where so many challenges are overlooked .
There used to be sayings like just the kid , or you're too small to know , or that doesn't apply to you . Now it does . Now it does so by uncovering these stories , by helping the students to be able to cope and see that there is better things ahead of their circumstance that will make a worthwhile podcast .
And so that is what got me on this school news kick . Not only the fact that I'm a bus driver , a school bus driver but just reading these stories that come to my desk and just the feedback I'm getting from young persons and I'm just like wow , like someone really needs to reach out and let these young people know that they cared about you .
Need that space in an environment to speak freely , even if it's not something that parents may necessarily agree with or understand . Just listen , because that can be the one line , that one difference , that one left to right decision between where your child is going to go in the future versus where they're just not going to go .
In that , along with that next thought or that thought that we just discussed , this story blows my mind , because a lot of people will talk to me about college and they'll talk to me about the beauty of it and what's important about going to college , etc .
I personally didn't go to college and I have nothing against anyone who goes to college , because everyone's circumstances is different . It's like everyone's circumstance with marriage will be different , everyone's first relationship will be different , everyone's first kiss will be different .
All of those things are different experiences based on the person's knowledge , their intellect , wisdom , discernment , etc . But this , this story here , really captivated me . Bay Area High School grad , rejected by 16 colleges , hired by Google Right , you heard me right , let's join them in San Francisco , guys .
College admissions decisions disappoint thousands of high achieving students each year , but one Palo Alto teens story is catching the attention of Congress . Stanley Zhang , 18 , is a 2023 graduate of Gun High School in Palo Alto .
He earned 3.97 unweighted and a 4.42 weighted GPA , scoring 1590 out of 1600 on the SATs , and found in his own e-signing startup , rapid Sign , in sophomore year . He was rejected by 16 out of the 18 colleges he applied to .
Now there was an interview conducted with him and one question that the interviewer asked him was I'm just wondering how you felt as each of these letters came in saying no , thank you , stanley , he says . Well , some of them were certainly expected . You know Stanford , mit , you know it is what it is right . Some of the state schools . I really thought .
You know , I had a good chance and turns out , a bit of a chance I had . I didn't get in .
¶ College Rejection and Controversial Teacher Actions
Now , shortly after the wave of rejections , he was offered a full time software engineering role by Google , one of the world's top tech companies . So the interesting thing about this story is that people will say you need to go to college . You need to go to college , you got to better yourself .
My question has always been what if you want to go to college and they don't accept you ? Because , to a certain extent , you can do your best and try and try and try , but if they're not going to accept you , there's nothing that you can do . So what if Google didn't pick up Mr Zhang ? What would he have done ?
Well , he doesn't have to worry about that anymore , because now he works for Google and he is making top dollar . His father , nan Zhang , shared the story on some parent chat groups and blogs , and it's going viral amidst the national conversations on elite college admissions .
Acknowledging that Stanley may have simply been extraordinarily unlucky , the Zhangs say they're sharing his story to spark conversation about making college admissions more transparent . Well , whatever the case is , in his circumstance , google turned out to be just what he needed . He is now an 18 year old Google software engineer .
He had decided to enroll at the University of Texas , but put that on hold when he got the Google job offer , and he's a brilliant young man . Very nice to hear from him . I really appreciate it , just his entire demeanor throughout the entire process . So we do send you our congratulations , mr Zhang , and love Google .
I won't buy any Google equipment , just my personal . But I do love using Google search engines and so many other of Google's platforms because they've been there since the very beginning and they're very good at what they do .
But as far as him not getting into college with those grades , with his scholastic wonders , I just find that to be extremely interesting , and so maybe this story might help someone else out . Seven elementary school students were injured after a North Carolina school bus veered off a highway and hit a building on Thursday morning .
A public information officer for the Allamance-Berlington school system said the bus was transporting 18 students to B Everett Jordan Elementary School in Graham , north Carolina . The bus was traveling along Highway 87 when the crash occurred at around 7.20 am local time .
All of the students were transported to local hospitals , either Chapel Hill , unc or the Allamance Regional Medical Center . Allamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson told CBS affiliate WFMX six students were taken by ambulance . One student was driven to the hospital by their parents . The school district said All of the students have non-life-threatening injuries .
The school district said Graham is about 35 miles west of North Carolina . There was no real real serious injuries , johnson told WFMY . Of course an injury is serious to a kid . The North Carolina Highway patrol said the bus veered to the right and hit a concrete culvert , then continued off the roadway until hitting the building .
Wfmy reported that the building was Lloyd Septic , a local septic company , and that the owners and operators of the company came out and comforted the children after the crash . I remember one time I was at a red light . I was driving to my private school and a woman hits me at a red light . Boom , bam , oh . Wow , that's how we feel in this morning .
It's like 7.30 in the morning . You hit me . Wow , that's how we do it . So anyways , cops came , gave the kids color in the book . They were high school kids . It was a ride , it was pretty cool and I just thought it was interesting how the cop was able to deal with the students even though they were high school kids .
It's nice when you have backup and comforting kids , because when kids hear of an accident in their mind it's like , oh , it's the end of the world , it's an accident . I can't read . I can't . So it's nice that they were comforted by this septic company . The crash will be investigated by the State Highway Patrol .
Other emergency responders included the Allamance County Sheriff , allamance County and Orange County EMS and the Area Fire Department , and Johnson speculated that the impact of the bus hitting the building had caused the injuries . Well , we hopefully wish you guys all the best .
The school bus did take a small little beating , nothing too drastic , but we know that the students are going to make a speedy recovery and we wish you guys all the best . In connection with this accident In our next story here , I'm trying to figure out what this teacher was thinking . I remember my kindergarten teacher , miss Moore .
Ooh , miss Moore , yeah , yeah , yeah . She was the type to make you hold your hands out and then smack them . I don't know what would give her the idea that that was acceptable or okay . Between her and my first crush throwing kindergarten , I was always getting beat down , man like I .
Yeah , there was a girl in kindergarten that I liked , you know , go figure , may Lonnie never forget her name , whatever and she would scratch my face up and I just thought that was the cutest thing in the world . But my parents didn't . So my memories of kindergarten are very unique .
Kindergarten was a very unique time for me , but here I'm willing to say that they take the cake this kindergarten class . Texas . Kindergarten teacher resigns after giving melatonin gummies to special education students .
Yeah , I read that right A kindergarten teacher who gave melatonin gummies to special education students at an elementary school in Humboldt , texas , has resigned . School officials said the Pine Forest Elementary School teacher gave the gummies to a few of her students and the district learned of it on September 28th .
School Independent School District spokesperson Jamie Mount made mention Melatonin is a widely available over-the-counter sleeping aid that's considered a dietary supplement and is not regulated as a drug by the Food and Drug Administration . A school district investigation found that the teacher did give out melatonin , acting on her own and without obtaining parent permission .
The teacher also did not notify campus administration nor their nurse . According to Mount , the teacher's actions were unacceptable . Mount said we are appalled that the teacher made this decision . The students were doing well and the parents of all students in the class have been notified by the principal . Mount said the district also reported the incident to police .
The state board for educator certification in child protective services . They asked about the teacher's resignation . Mount said it is the fastest , most efficient process to separate employment . Terminating a teacher's contract can be a longer drawn-out process because the state education code requires a multi-step process to be followed .
Mount said With the resignation the matter is still reported to the state board for educator certification . Now we know that local news agencies have reached out to the Humble Independent School District Police and the Texas Education Agency's state board for educator certification For information .
Humble is a suburb of Houston so I'm not sure as to what the motive was here in connection with the teacher . Some teachers just go off the hook . They do things and they expect I don't know what kind of results they're expecting , but they expect the things are going to work out and they don't .
There was no need to give kindergarteners my latonin , especially those of a special education environment . I know parents are furious and they're upset because you're starting to wonder if the teachers are off the hook , who can you really trust ?
And that's something that is going to be quite something to see answered in the next couple of years , because it seems like it's getting worse . It doesn't seem as though teachers have that same respect and dignity that they should have in connection with their students .
Fort Worth ISD Elementary School Employee shot multiple times in parking lot , forest Hill in Fort Worth , texas . A Fort Worth ISD cafeteria worker was murdered at the elementary school campus where she worked . The woman , whose name has not been released , was shot and killed before classes started at Sellers Elementary in Forest Hill and the shooter got away .
Classes were held as usual and it wasn't until after school was over that parents finally got an explanation about what happened . Forest Hill police haven't announced any arrests . They haven't released who they are looking for , only saying they found the suspect's vehicle abandoned in Fort Worth shortly after the shooting .
Even that information came out hours after the shooting and after kids had gone home for the day Afternoon pick up Wednesday at Fort Worth ISD's David K Sellers Elementary looked different . Parents had to walk inside the school to pick up their children because the school employee was gunned down in a campus parking lot .
Parents weren't even aware of the murder outside the elementary school that's in the city of Forest Hill . Many left concern Wednesday afternoon , with extra security standing outside and little to no information After school was let out .
Forest Hill police announced a female employee at the elementary was shot multiple times and killed in the back parking lot just before 7am . President Kiesha Brzeal pulled up with her son Wednesday to police tape . All we knew was something bad happened and didn't know what completely had happened .
She tells Fox 4 , she later learned the woman killed was a longtime cafeteria worker at Sellers Elementary who was beloved and has been at the school for decades . She was a very happy and energetic person who worked here for many , many years . She was a mainstay here at the school and she will leave a void . The shots were fired .
Police say the suspect took off in a silver chevium palla . The car was later found unoccupied in Fort Worth . Police believe the woman knew her killer and they briefed Fort worth ISD with what they knew . The district decided to continue the school day . Parents had the option to drop their kid off or keep them at home .
The district says students who were on campus were held in the auditorium until lunchtime after police determined the suspect was no longer in the area . So I can , I we want to extend our condolences .
Sometimes I'm just able to process this information and just jump right back at you guys with something that's that's amazing and positive and a building , but for the students here who knew this , this woman in the cafeteria . I can't express the heartfelt pain to read these stories and to report these stories to you guys .
It's not easy to to lose someone that you love . It's not easy , it's very difficult . It's very difficult . We want to send our condolences to you guys , not just mere words through a screen , but as our support for all that you guys have done and are doing as a student body , even as staff .
Losing , just just losing someone that you're on a routine of seeing every single day , it hurts . It hurts because there's no way to feel that void . There was a person there and now that person is gone .
But I will tell you this , speaking from experience as you guys continue to travel on this road , this road of grief that all of us have to travel on , do know that you're not alone and don't give up thinking about it . It's worker . When you're in the cafeteria and you think of something , let it out . Talk to someone . Don't hold it in .
If you're having a bad day , go speak to a guidance counselor . Come on , tick tock . Respond to this thread , respond to this video . Express that you knew her . Express how sorry you are about what happened .
Those are steps that we have to take on the road to grief and when we take those steps without trying to skip any , we find out that we can come out on top Again . The everyday podcast R-E-D wants to send its heartfelt love to you guys and we know that you're going to continue to cope with this as best you can .
Hang in there , guys , and keep on pushing . Speaking of losses , I just looked over at my calendar and the time is indeed flying . It's October 24th and on the 29th October 29th is the birthday of my younger brother who was killed tragically three years ago . I'm not sure how I'm able to make it . Thinking about him , my mom sent me a nice message today .
That was really . That was nice to her to do that , but I miss him very much . It's not that the fact that he's gone , that he was murdered , it's the fact that I never really got to
¶ Expressing Love, Coping With Loss
say goodbye . It was during the pandemic and there was a lot , a lot of restrictions on hospitals and I had to call , I had to be able to express my love for him and my CLA's , as it were , by phone . I don't talk about it much . I don't talk about it much , and maybe I should . He was very cool .
My brother was very funny , very energetic , very outgoing , and I wish I could have told him that more . So , if you guys are dealing with someone that you love or lost , make sure you tell him beforehand . Don't wait , because it could be too late . It could be too late .
I will say that one thing that really really touched my heart was that when he and I it was a week before he was killed and we had a really bad argument , we were arguing about something and it literally we almost had blows right .
You argue with your brother , sibling rivalry , that kind of thing and I apologized to him after the fact and I'm glad that I did , because had I not apologized to him then it would have been a lot worse his passing .
So I say that to say this that if you are going through something and you are coping with the death of someone , the loss of someone , let that be a learning experience . Don't shove the feelings aside . Take the moments and time to cherish every ounce of life that you have now and things will get better Again . On this podcast , we love you guys .
That's why this next story coming into the home state of New Jersey once again , tensions rise at a high school in South Jersey after a fight broke out during lunchtime following the news of the Israel Hamas War , videos have been circulating on social media of a brawl between students in the Cherry Hill High School East cafeteria .
The school district notified parents of the incident in an email on Thursday , letting folks know . The fight was immediately addressed by school staff . There were some concerned parents here and this was interesting because that's the last name . It does spark attention Anaya Baskerville , who felt uneasy about the situation after her son showed her the videos .
It's upsetting , said Baskerville . The kids I mean , I don't know , I don't know what to say . The students at the high school allegedly clashed over the recent bombing of Israel by Hamas , which then resulted in war . It hit hard because I don't share the same nationality , but I definitely can feel for the students who do share that nationality .
This is Anaya's son now Dylan Baskerville , cherry Hill High School East , junior , Cherry Hill High School East . Parent said the cafeteria situation escalated after her 16-year-old son posted a video of the incident on social media . What's absolutely important is that every kid , every child , feels safe at school , and the children aren't feeling safe" .
She said Some parents are concerned because of the circumstances developing in Cherry Hill with regards to the violence Me personally , because people will ask now that I'm a content creator etc . And here's my answer when it comes to human life , to take a human life , that in itself is just a terrible thing .
Focusing on that aspect , not just what's happening over in Israel , but just war in general . War doesn't do any good for anybody , but two sides fighting to the death Any same people get killed as a result of it .
So it's just interesting how now that environment over there in Israel , that kind of attitude , is creeping over here and it's causing students now to want to fight aggressively against one another . It's going to be interesting how the board is able to get these students on the same page again , even if they even are .
But we wish you guys the best down there and that you those who aren't involved or are neutral in the situation try your best to seek peace in the matter in cultivated respect for everyone there at the school .
¶ High School Incidents
Here's a follow-up story that's gripped the hearts of so many . High School Quarterback suffers brain injury , hospitalized after hit during game . Family says Kern City , pa . A high school student in Pennsylvania reportedly suffered a critical injury while playing in a football game last month .
Mason Martin , a Kern City high school football quarterback , sustained a serious injury during a game on September 1 , according to his family . The boy's family said he suffered a collapsed lung and a brain bleed , but it wasn't known what exactly caused the injuries , other than a hit that happened during the game .
The Martin family shared that their son was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where he has undergone surgery since the on-field incident . Mason is scheduled to have surgery to have his cranial flap put back in place . Besides the risk of surgery itself , the biggest concern is infection .
This is the Kern City Gremlin football shared on behalf of the boy's family . Martin's father added I am asking for specific prayers for a successful reinsertion with no infection , also praying that the flap back in place will allow the brain to begin to function in a normal manner . This has the potential to be a big step in his recovery .
Amanda Brewer has started a GoFundMe for the Martin family that is currently raised more than $79,000 . The Mason family has thanked everyone for the support they have already received and are asking for those to keep their son in their prayers while he continues to recover .
It's unfortunate that someone so young has to go through such a tragic surgery and go through such tragic incidences in life . I always find it interesting how people support the GoFundMe page , because you never realize how generous certain people can be . But no , you never know what might happen if you just put yourself out there .
We wish you all the best in connection with his recovery and we know that if you take it one day at a time and take practical steps , try not to be so absorbed in certain things , but just take a break every once in a while .
Take your breaks , make sure that you're doing something fun in between and then that way you can continue to sustain yourself , even during difficult times such as what you're going through . To the Mason family this story here was a bit so it was creepy . There's this movie . I like Willard .
It's about a man who befriends rats , and these rats are his army of whatever they are , and they help him in his life with his people problems . And that's what I thought of when I thought of Hamden High School . It's infested with mice . According to officials , the town's high school has become infested with mice .
Mark Hugh , a Hamden High School senior who serves as the Board of Education's student representative , raised the issue during the board's meeting Tuesday night Hugh told board members that an exterminator brought in to eliminate the rodents over the long weekend wasn't really effective .
According to Hugh , high school teachers found fresh mouse droppings on their desks Tuesday morning . Photos shared with the New Haven Registry show tiny dark brown pellets dotting counters , cabinets and other surfaces around the school . He encouraged school officials to take further action .
Things are being done and that's good , but at least from what the people think , there still are some things that should occur , he said . There are also some questions about who should be cleaning up the droppings in the teacher's classrooms . Yet who , added , the janitors aren't picking them up .
One school official responded to Hugh by saying that the Hamden Public Schools Administration is aware of the problem and working to address it . It's not as simple as that solution might seem , but we're continuously working on it . Thomas Oriola , the district's chief financial and operations officer , we've hired outside pest control . We're doing it internally .
It's going to take time , but as far as this other issue , I will talk to director of facilities John Cross to make sure all areas are clean regardless . Hamden Public Schools Superintendent Gary Highsmith did not respond to a request for comment this week .
I don't know why that humorous mean when they try to reach out to someone who's really in charge of things and they don't request or they don't respond back or reply back . I find that to be humorous . Here's some history , though .
Board of Education chair Melissa Kaplan said before Tuesday's meeting that she did not doubt the presence of mice in the high school which opened in 1935 . She says getting mice in your house in the winter is not that unusual and I'm sure a building like the high school received its fair share . It's kind of inevitable .
Well , whether it's inevitable or not , it still is kind of disgusting to have rats in an institutional facility that's meant to educate students . But if the students did want an idea as to what they could do with these mice , why don't they collect them all in a bucket or container and then dissect them from biology class ? Here's our next story .
Frustrated father of Rebold Middle School student wants answers after he says Bust didn't show up twice this week . We're going to Jacksonville , florida .
A father of a Rebold Middle School student wants the bus driver's shortage to be handled differently after his child's bus did not show up twice this week , and is being left with more questions than answers regarding this issue . Now , as someone who's worked for one of these companies .
I can assure you I understand completely what dad's frustration is , because the bottom line is these companies don't care . Clarence Williams said not having enough bus drivers means kids are suffering by getting to school late .
However , he said the main issue is the way the bus contractors are handling the shortage and how they are talking to parents who have questions . It's frustrating , as a parent Williams says . Williams said his frustrating day started early Friday morning . We go out here and notice the bus hadn't showed up , he said .
Williams said this is not the first time this has happened and that he understands there is a nationwide bus driver shortage . I'm going to tell you why there's nationwide bus driver shortage because there are two types of contracts . Right , there's two type of bus companies . I'm going to break it down for you very simply .
Right now , down there , they're dealing with two bus companies . One is STA , student Transportation of America . The second company is Durham School Services . Now , I'm not going to tell you which company I worked at , but what I will tell you is both companies are under the umbrella of corporate offices . The other companies are what we call mom and pops .
Mom and pop companies are companies that are owned by individual owners who are not affiliated with corporate entities or franchises whatsoever . Like dorm , there are dorm school services , school bus companies or bases all over the country . They fall under the corporate office based in the UK .
What happens is this these companies don't want to pay these bus drivers a fair wage . They want to nickel and dime everything these drivers do .
The drivers get tired of showing up , slaving for companies that do not care about them , gives them the bare minimum and then , as a result , they don't have the drivers to fill these contracts that they keep bringing on until they're work low so that they can make money . The parents are the ones who suffer .
Because the parents are trying to communicate with the base . The base is blaming it on the driver , but the reality is it's not the driver , it's the company . You see the average bus driver right now in Jersey . You have to really push , but you're starting at about $25 an hour . But you can reach in some companies up to $32 an hour as a school bus driver .
But here's the catch With those companies that pay those hourly rates they want to cut your hours . So if you're giving $32 an hour , they want you to work about three hours a day . I'm not doing that , and so that's what happens . Where then ? So these drivers are pushed out of these corporate companies and they just go to mom and pops .
Mom and pops are much more reasonable . You may not get your benefits that you may want , but you're guaranteed to make your money . And so now parents like Mr Clarence Williams here is left devastated and without transportation and the smart remarks from the driver because of all the pressure that they're being put under in connection with the corporate company .
So it's just interesting that this continues to be an ongoing problem , and as long as they don't want to pay people , it's always going to be a problem . That's just the bottom line . I follow up story . Teen found dead outside of Bulk Springs Elementary School is identified .
Bulk Springs , texas , a teen's body was found outside of a Mesquite Independent School , district Elementary School and Bulk Springs on Tuesday morning . Police said . Police initially said the victim was a man , but they later updated that to say it was a boy .
He was identified Wednesday at 16 year old , lamor Sanders , according to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office . According to the Balk Springs Police Department around 7.40 am officers responded toa grassy area near Gray Elementary School near Pioneer and Elam Roads in Balk Springs , which is south of Mesquite .
When emergency crews arrived , including officers , firefighters and medical personnel , the victim was found lying on the ground near the school building and was unresponsive , police said . Police said life-saving measures were performed but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene .
This mother of six is now searching for answers about what happened to the quiet homeschool teen . She says he didn't fool with nobody . He was always in the house all the time , or here at the shop . He worked for the people down the strip in the Chinese store and he would go to take their boxes out , you know , and work on a daily basis , finley said .
She said Sanders had been busy this week helping her set up her shop's annual haunted house . But Monday night , finley said he got out of his shell and wanted to hang out at a neighbor's house with other kids who live on their block . She thinks her son's death is tied to something that happened there .
She goes on to mention that someone at the party or this event he was at went out to grab something and gave it to other kids there with him . She goes on to say that she believes that this person drugged her son . The police , however , say there were no signs of foul play , but further investigation might prove that otherwise .

A teacher's aide arrested for alleged written bomb threats at elementary school . A teacher's aide in Danbury has been arrested after a months long investigation into several written bomb threats at an elementary school in town , police said .
Authorities said the arrest followed an investigation into a parent bomb threat at Penbrook Elementary School that started on November 29 , 2022 . A note was found in a school bathroom that indicated a bomb was in the building . According to police , the school was evacuated until it was deemed safe for students and staff to return .
Police were unsure of who wrote the threat when the first incident happened , but in the months to follow , three other similar notes were found . All of the written threats prompted evacuations . According to authorities , the FBI assisted with the investigation . Officers obtained an arrest warrant for the teacher's aide this month and she subsequently turned herself in .
