Ever felt the heat of summer flirting gone wrong? As the season sizzles, we reflect on my time as a school bus driver in New Jersey and dissect the thin line between harmless flirting and crossing boundaries. We break down what flirting entails, differentiate the appropriate from the inappropriate, and ask you to consider your own experiences and intentions. With insightful quotes and real-life anecdotes, we discuss how flirting can tarnish reputations and emphasize the need for honesty and sensitivity.

The summer heat isn’t the only tension we tackle. We dive deep into alarming stories within our education system: chaotic high school graduations ending in brawls, charges of child abuse against school staff, and the tragic loss of a cherished middle school teacher in a car crash. These incidents serve as stark reminders of the pressing issues our schools face. By advocating for constructive summer activities, we aim to offer solace and guidance to those impacted.

Violence, decision-making, and education take center stage as we recount violent incidents at Hofstra University and a Maryland charity football game, both of which disrupted what should have been joyous occasions. The conversation shifts to the cost of higher education, with insights from entrepreneurs who’ve thrived without a four-year degree, urging graduates to weigh their options carefully. We end with a discussion on cell phone bans in schools and a disturbing security breach at a Virginia elementary school, prompting us to rethink student safety and well-being. Join us for a thought-provoking finale as we navigate these critical issues and prepare for a mindful summer.

Speaker 1

this is the everyday podcast for the everyday people . Guys , welcome back to another episode of red . It's that everyday podcast for the everyday people . And guys , guess what ? It has been a hundred degree for quite some several days , and so my patience is at an all time low , because black folk and the heat , we just don't vibe with it .

It's irritable , it makes us sweaty and we just can't stand looking swagless during these hot and difficult times . And so this episode is going to be the final episode of season three , episode number 42 .

I know that some of you listen to this episode , these segments , every single week , and I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts on these stories , how they're covered and how we're handling them for you guys .

Now , with our summer season sizzling in , as it were , I thought the excellent , the most particular topic to discuss in connection with a summer fling , our theme today would be is flirting harmless fun ? The question it makes you wonder , doesn't it ?

Oftentimes , people think of flirting as something that is not such a bad thing , and during the summertime , people increase in connection with their flirting radar . They're more prone to enter into relationships , they're more prone to mingle , as it were . But is flirting harmless fun ?

Well , we're going to be able to dissect that theme on our final episode of season number three . So to begin that discussion , I ask you , the listeners , a question what is flirting ? Well , some people think of flirting as conveying the impression , through words or actions , that you are romantically interested in a person of the opposite sex .

Now , true , there are types of flirting that are appropriate , such as between a boyfriend and a girlfriend , or even between a married couple . However , there is also a type of flirting that is on the inappropriate side of things . Here's a question Is it wrong to show that you are romantically interested in someone ? Well , not necessarily so .

In this discussion today , we're going to discuss the kind of flirting that involves acting as if you have a romantic interest in someone when you have no serious intent . Here's a quote from Deanna it's one thing to pay special attention to someone because you want to start a romantic relationship .

It's a different matter to lead someone on and then pull the rug out from under him because you were never really serious . Powerful thought , isn't it ? Have you ever been in that kind of a pickle in which you swore that this girl was interested in you ? You tell all of your friends man , she's feeling me , I can tell .

Look at what she texts me , look at how she smiles at me when we're together or around our friends . Or perhaps you are a female in which you've expressed this to your lady friends he's so cute , he's so nice .

I really think he likes me , only to be bombarded with a harsh reality that the person that was on the opposite side of things had no such feelings at all . It really is humiliating and defeating . So why do some people do it ? Well , some people flirt just to boost their ego .

When you realize you can attract that kind of attention , you may want more of it , says a young woman named Haley . But here is the reality of the matter . If you intentionally give the impression that you have romantic interest in someone , when in fact you do not , you show a callous disregard for the other person's feelings .

You also call into question your judgment . There is a proverb that I would love to be able to express on this topic Foolishness is a joy to one lacking good sense . So for good reason , haley concludes . Now I'm going to repeat that , so it's clear for you as my listeners .

For good reason , haley concludes flirting may begin harmlessly , but it often ends dangerously . Now we're going to discuss some of those dangers . And , as we're discussing these dangers , meditate on , perhaps , how you may have engaged with someone in connection with flirtatious feelings , or perhaps how someone may have done so to you in connection with such emotions .

Flirting hurts your reputation . That's the first danger . Notice what a youth named Jeremy says A person who flirts comes across as insecure and immature . You feel that she is not being honest with you but is only trying to get something out of you Powerful feeling expressed here from this young man .

So what can you do to be able to avoid or divert said danger ? Well , don't look for your own interest . Be considerate of other people's feelings and how your choices in life and your choices in connection with how you carry yourself can affect them . Here's a question to think about .

What kind of words or actions could cause you to gain a reputation as a flirt ? Meditate on those things . Perhaps it's how you text . It's how you deal with individuals in your class or perhaps online by means of social media . Do you giggle overly in their presence ? Do you communicate in a way that's perhaps misleading ? Here's the second danger .

Flirting hurts the person you flirt with , and I can attest to that . We've all been a victim of someone whom is flirting with us but has no interest or regard for us . Notice what Jacqueline says If I meet someone who is flirting , it makes me not want to be around him . It's as if the only reason he's talking to me is because I'm a girl .

People who flirt don't really care about me . They only care about making themselves feel better . How powerful Jacqueline's words are . You see , a flirtatious person is only thinking about what they can get and how they can feed or fan the flames of their raging emotions . So what is a thought that you can keep in mind ? Well , here's a question to think about .

Have you ever been led to believe that someone had a romantic interest in you , only to find out that you were wrong ? If so , how did you feel afterward ? How can you avoid hurting someone else in that way ? Powerful questions to analyze what's going on inside If you have a problem with flirting .

If you have a problem with flirting , ask yourself thought-provoking questions . Strive to be empathetic and consider how you're going to make that other person feel . During these difficult days , it's all too easy to think about how someone else is going to make you feel rather than thinking about how you are going to make them feel by your actions .

And here's our third danger to avoid Flirting hurts your prospects for genuine romance . Notice what Olivia says A flirt would be a totally undesirable person to marry or even to date . How could I really get to know or trust someone if he is just putting on an act ?

One principle that really came in handy for me in connection with high school was avoiding those who hid whom they were . School was avoiding those who hid whom they were .

If I couldn't have a productive , open , honest conversation with someone , then I rightly concluded that they were not someone I would want to entertain a relationship with , or anything else for that matter . You see , when you can't trust someone , you are ripping the blocks away from a foundation that needs to be stable in order for you to build on it .

So trust is very important . How can you know if you're dealing with a circumstance like this or if you're struggling inwardly ? Here's a question to think about what kind of person does a flirt appeal to ? Is that the kind of person you want to attract ? Here's two comments from what your peers say .

If you're a flirt , you will hurt people and those people will tell others what you did . The longer you continue flirting , the bigger the stain you put on your reputation reputation and the harder it is to wash off Scott . Flirting can really damage your reputation .

In fact , a flirt comes across as insincere and untrustworthy and is not someone I would pick as a close friend , jesslyn . So what did we discuss in connection with our theme ?

High School Chaos & Teacher Abuse

Although it may seem fun , although all your friends may be doing it , although you might be a young adult not looking for a serious relationship , there are dangers in flirting , and the biggest danger is that you're going to put yourself in a position where you hurt another human being and then now you're subject to how they're going to deal with those hurt feelings

. Some people choose to walk away and laugh it off . Others take a different approach . So , guys , this summer , be smart in your endeavors . Don't stroke or fan the flames in connection with something you're not going to invest in . Don't start nothing . There won't be nothing . Continue to think about others in your endeavors .

This summer , try to grow as an individual . One thing that I like to do during my summer breaks when I was younger was reading books . Corny , yeah , I guess it could be , but reading has moved my mind to places that I couldn't get to if I never picked up the book in the first place .

So find ways to make your summer constructive , productive , and you will have the best summer possible . Until then , guys continue to strive to avoid aimlessly flirting in connection with other people's feelings . Our first story of the night is right in the home of New Jersey .

You know , every time I get a New Jersey story on the show I just look and I say , hmm , I wonder if I've driven that school before . They flag anything that appears to be violent or overly disturbing to viewers , etc . Etc . So you're going to have to log into mainstream news accounts to be able to see this particular video . However , my source for this story is the New York Post .

Several fights broke out at a New Jersey high school graduation , sending one person to the hospital and injuring several others , according to police . Others according to police . I remember when graduation was something to look forward to so many students fearful for their lives in connection with prom . Now graduation , school dances , etc . Extracurricular activities are now becoming housings , places of violence and just raged from young people .

Adults who skipped college urge high school grads to follow suit , say rewards are immeasurable , concerns about the rising cost of tuition and university campus culture are driving a significant number of Americans away from higher education , and entrepreneurs who skipped out on a four-year degree are urging others to follow suit .

Guitar Chalk editor Bobby Kittleberger told Fox News Digital he actively encourages his kids not to attend college . I like to put it this way , he says you never see a dude pull up in a Ferrari and think , oh , I bet he has a college degree . So I tell my kids , why would you walk a path that , by design , does not lead to wealth and prosperity ? He said .

Kittleberger , who works as a web designer and SEO consultant , has several reasons for pushing kids away from a traditional university path . Although he graduated with a computer science degree , one of the highest paying majors , right out of college , kittleberger said his diploma has been completely irrelevant to his real-world work and career path .

In his opinion , the price of a degree has a terrible return on investment . The recent cost of higher education have led many of his friends to work jobs they could have achieved with a high school degree , such as real estate trading and insurance . A high school degree such as real estate trading and insurance .

According to the Education Data Initiative , the average cost of attendance for a student living on campus at a public in-state institution is $108,583 over four years . Out-of-state students will pay an average of $182,832 in the same time frame . Private colleges can be notably higher , with some charging $250,000 or more over four years in tuition and fees .

For instance , kenyon College in Ohio charges more than $71,000 in tuition a year , not including board fees . Kittleberger said that if someone wants to become a doctor , lawyer or any other profession that requires a degree , college is almost always the best course of action .

But for many fields , he said , it is absurd to try and learn to make money from professors who have likely never run their own businesses . He plans on encouraging his children , especially his two boys , to enter the labor market and learn crucial financial skills . How practical it is when individuals recognize that nothing is guaranteed when you go to college .

In fact , nothing is guaranteed at all in this life . Some things are left up to mere unforeseen occurrence . Continue to do the best you guys can , class of 2024 . And let me know in the comments how you guys have been weathering your futures .

Are you going to college , are you not going to college Always been a hot topic in connection with higher education or just going straight for the money . Let me know what you guys think in connection with this story . Our following story cell phones continue to be under ban throughout certain schools in the United States .

Cell Phone Ban and School Safety

Two Seattle schools banned cell phones . Beginning in the fall , students at Seattle's Hamilton International and Robert Eagle Staff Middle Schools will have to lock their cell phones in little pouches when the school day starts .

The two schools join a growing list across the country that are creating cell-free zones to cut down on distractions and disruptions in the classroom , strengthen students' emotional well-being and improve discipline .

The cell phone bans come amid a growing backlash against technology use in schools and concerns about the negative effects of social media on students' mental health and well-being . In Seattle , hamilton International's PTSA led the push for that school's new policy .

Florida passed a law requiring districts to craft policies to prohibit cell phone use during the school day . Gavin Newsom threw his support behind a ban , saying he planned to work with the legislator to restrict smartphone use in schools . The same day , the Los Angeles School District voted to ban cell phone usage during the school day .

Beginning next year In Seattle , schools get to decide how cell phones and other personal devices will be used in the buildings . That policy will remain in place . Hamilton International and Robert Eagle staff are among the first to move forward with the ban .

Those involved say they are hoping to create safe spaces for students for the six or so hours they are in school . Teachers , too , will have more time to focus on teaching . The pouches cost $30 per student . The PTSA at Hamilton International is covering the cost at a discounted rate .

Robert Eagle staff will use funds from the PTSA along with donations from a campaign it's launching to pay for the pouches . It's very interesting how far schools have to go in connection with assisting young persons today . Parents , what can you do to be able to help your child cope ? Number one enable or encourage self control .

Number two help your child to find balance when using their cellular device . The only challenge I see with this is what if there is an emergency and the child must contact mom , dad , etc .

Having a contact number on file is essential for the child to get the help they need , especially in cases of threats that are more and more imminent in connection with the school industry .

We hope you guys are able to sort out all of the confusion in connection with these new fall arrangements , but overall , we wish you students the best in connection with your new school year . Our following story is indeed gripping . Parents continue to be alert and active in connection with what's going on in the lives of your children .

Our location now is Suffolk , virginia . A man is facing charges after police said he held students against their will inside a Suffolk Elementary School bathroom . The incident happened Friday morning at Kilby Shores Elementary School .

According to a message from Principal Lori Banks sent to parents , students and staff were leaving the building for recess when an intruder entered the building , whose staff members immediately noticed . Banks said staff members tracked the trespasser's whereabouts before police arrived and took the suspect into custody . No one was harmed .

According to her message , the school went into lockdown during this time , suffolk officials said . According to Suffolk police , the suspect , 42-year-old Von Trail Marcus Thorpe , was located in a bathroom occupied by students and had prevented school staff from entering prior to police arrival .

A parent with two children at Kilby Shores who wishes to remain anonymous , told 13 News Now I am infuriated . The danger of a person who is potentially in a mental health crisis is immense . Some of our most violent incidents stem from mental health crisis .

The first officer arrived at the school shortly after 11 30 am and police were able to detain Thorpe , who was unarmed , without further incident , at 11.40 . Police said nobody was hurt . Principal Banks said law enforcement remained on campus while students were dismissed .

Thorpe was charged on Friday afternoon with two counts of abduction , trespassing , disorderly conduct , possession of a schedule substance on school property and breaking and entering . Police said all charges are felonies except for disorderly conduct , which is a misdemeanor . Thorpe is currently being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail .

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing . Police said Frightening times that we live in . People always ask me do I want children ? Heavy question . It's a lot to think about during the times that we live in , times in which a person can just walk into a school building and then at that point I have to trust administration to do their part .

It is a heavy question to ask someone because there's so much at risk To you . Dear parents , please accept our most heartfelt sympathies . A frightening situation , clear it up quickly , but nonetheless a frightening and scary situation . Our next story we are visiting my birthplace and I say that reluctantly Newark , new Jersey . Guys , that's our location .

Notice what happens in our next story Parents , city officials outraged about provocative video filmed at Newark's Westside High School , the NBA Baddies basketball tournament won't be taking place as scheduled at West High School in Newark .

As scheduled at West High School in Newark , the basketball tournament would have featured women wearing bikinis and playing a tournament for a cash prize . The tournament was canceled after complaints from the community and parents want someone with the school district held accountable .

Some parents who spoke with New Jersey 12 found it disturbing that the group of women taking part in the tournament was allowed inside of Westside High School to shoot a promotional video , a video that has made the rounds on social media . It was recorded inside the gym of the Westside High Rough Riders .

The video shows a man dressed as a referee explaining four teams would be competing on July 21st , along with women dancing provocatively . At the end of the video he says we're giving out $10,000 to the best team . Denise Cole lives in Newark and has long been an education advocate . Cole is also an alumnus of Westside High School . How did this happen ?

I know there's a process and in the process that I know this shouldn't take place . She says the Newark School District says this was not a district event , adding no district official was aware of the video until it was posted online official was aware of the video until it was posted online .

So far , neither the district nor the councilman's office has offered an answer as to whom allowed the promotional shoot to happen . And just a small update in connection with this story . Those involved did issue an official apology in connection with their actions but nevertheless , the video in connection with this particular story is very wild . It's not easy .

We wish you guys all the best as you strive to rectify these matters and get everything polished up in connection with the next school year . Very difficult story indeed . In connection with the next school year Very difficult story indeed . Well , guys , we have reached the final two stories of episode number 42 .
