Emotional balance often feels impossible in today's world of rising inflation, health crises, and global uncertainty. Many of us find ourselves anxious, fearful, and overwhelmed by circumstances beyond our control. But what if there were practical strategies we could implement today to regain our emotional footing?

In this deeply resonant exploration of emotional health, we unpack powerful principles for managing anger, cultivating gratitude, and finding balance even in turbulent times. The ancient wisdom that "one slow to anger is better than a mighty man" reveals that true strength lies not in explosive reactions but in measured responses. Through careful listening and gathering complete facts before reacting, we can prevent the regrettable consequences of uncontrolled anger.

Gratitude emerges as perhaps the most transformative practice for emotional wellbeing. Even those who've experienced devastating losses report that focusing on what remains rather than what was lost becomes the key to emotional survival. The simple daily practice of listing things we're grateful for—from beautiful sunrises to meaningful conversations—can fundamentally shift our perspective and elevate our emotional state.

Through personal stories of loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, we witness how gratitude can coexist with grief, and how learning the true meaning of empathy often comes through our hardest experiences. The practical wisdom continues with three essential strategies: walking away from arguments before they escalate, avoiding unnecessary worry about tomorrow, and thinking situations through rather than reacting purely on emotion.

These approaches can be applied in every context—school, work, family life—creating a foundation for emotional resilience no matter what challenges arise. While we can't control external circumstances, we absolutely can develop the internal resources to navigate life with greater peace and purpose.

Ready to transform your emotional health? Listen now to discover how these practical strategies can help you find balance in an unbalanced world. Share your own journey to emotional wellbeing and join our community of everyday people seeking extraordinary lives.

Introduction to Emotional Health Theme

Speaker 1

This is the Everyday Podcast for the Everyday People . Guys , welcome back to another episode of RED . It's the Everyday Podcast for the Everyday People . This week has been extremely long . A lot of people in my family are dealing with health circumstances .

There are road rage , persons on the road that cause disruption , and there's a lot of lack of empathy , communication and things that can cause a person's discouragement or stress . In this particular episode , with my young audience and administrators , principals , parents in mind , I decided to select for our theme emotional health .

Today , many people are anxious , they are faint out of fear . They are afraid of what's to come . Inflation , threats of rising food costs and all of these other matters that are necessities to life are causing people to become discouraged . Well , in this particular episode , I wanted to focus on how people can be able to find balance with their emotional health .

There are things that we have control over in this life , but then there are things that we do not have control over .

Managing Anger for Better Wellbeing

Let's focus on anger . There is a principle that has helped so many to cope with anger , something that threatens emotional health . Here's the principle the one slow to anger is better than a mighty man . What does that mean ? We benefit when we develop the strength to control our emotions .

Although some anger may be justified at times , uncontrolled anger is destructive . Modern researchers point out that , in the heat of the moment , angry people often say or do things that they will later regret . Well , with that thought in mind , what is it that you can do to maintain control over your anger ? Learn to control your anger before it controls you .

While some people think that uncontrolled anger is a sign of strength , we are wise to recognize that it is really a sign of weakness , as a city broken through without a wall is the man who cannot control his temper . A practical way to control your anger is to get the facts before reacting .

Another principle that has helped many to cope with their anger or to take control over their anger is the insight of a man certainly slows down his anger , so we do well to listen carefully to both sides of a matter . This may provide us with the insight that can steady our emotions . Emotions , and isn't it true ?

When dealing with certain circumstances , when coping with certain distresses , it can be a challenge in order for us to maintain control over our emotions . But if we apply the principles here , based on coping with the circumstances of today and taking control over our anger , we can find

Gratitude: The Key to Happiness

delight . Well , what's the next thing that can help us to balance our emotional strength ? Gratitude Show yourselves thankful . As people , it's easy for us to focus on the negative . It's all too easy for us to say that something is worse rather than better . It has been said , however , that only a grateful person can be happy .

Even those who have gone through tremendous loss can attest to this . They point out that the key to their emotional survival has been to focus on not what they lost , but what they have to be grateful for . So what is it that you can do to be able to find that grateful spirit ? Each day , make a list of the things that you are grateful for .

These do not have to be major things you are grateful for . These do not have to be major things . You can reflect even on the small things , for example , a beautiful sunrise , a pleasant conversation with a loved one or simply having another day of life .

All too often , we take for granted the fact that this world is wicked and when we wake up , it is a product of undeserved kindness . These positive things can do much to boost your emotional health if you take the time to notice and appreciate them . One thing that I am truly grateful for is my family .

Although we lost most of them in the COVID-19 pandemic and my younger brother was killed , I am grateful that I still can be married to a very , very sweet , kind , endearing person . I'm also grateful that my mother is still here , fighting by our side along with her husband by our side along with her husband .

I'm also appreciative that I learned the true meaning of empathy going through those hardships . It can be especially beneficial to think about why you are grateful for your family and friends . When you have identified what you appreciate about other people , tell them about it .

Do not keep those emotions bottled in , either in person or in a letter , an email or a text message . This will likely strengthen your relationships and enable you to experience the happiness that comes from giving . Here are three other tips that you can be able to apply that will help you to find balance in connection with your emotional strength

Three Tips for Emotional Balance

. The first one is walk away from arguments . A very , very famous proverb states this beginning a fight is like opening a floodgate Before the quarrel breaks out . Take your leave .

Number two avoid unnecessary worry about the future , another principle that millions of people have found great benefit in never be anxious about the next day , for the next day will have its own anxieties .

Each day has enough of its own troubles and then finally think things through instead of reacting merely on the basis of emotion A principle that has really helped me in connection with rumors , accusations and misunderstandings with me and my fellow humans . Thinking ability will keep watch over you , and here's the point Discernment will safeguard you .

Yes , guys , if you apply these things , whether it be in school , at work or in the family arrangement , you surely will be able to benefit in ways that you may not have even imagined .

For all of those who have joined us so far , we want to extend a warm welcome to those new listeners whom are tying in this week , and we want to say thank you to all of our loyal REDers who make this show successful each and every week by allowing us a free space to communicate and to express our thoughts and connection with all that you guys do

School News Roundup Begins

for us . As always , we have a lineup of stories . This particular week , we have 10 stories that are indeed thought-provoking . We're going to visit several places in the United States in which school news are taking the upper hand . Here's our first story Roanoke Park Elementary School closed for the day due to vandalism .

The Roanoke Park Unified School District canceled school for the day on Monday at John Reed Elementary School after discovering someone broke into multiple classrooms and vandalized them . The Roanoke Park Department of Public Safety Dispatch Center received an alarm notification early Monday morning from the school and sent patrol units .

School officials arrived and decided to cancel classes for the day due to the excessive vandalism . Officers said they arrived at the school three minutes after the initial alarm went off . Despite the quick response , authorities didn't find any suspects on campus . There was a decline to provide specifics on what was damaged .

Citing the ongoing investigation , they anticipate that repairs will be costly . The district added it plans to have resources for students and staff to discuss the issue when students return . They are also looking at implementing additional security measurements to prevent any future vandalism .

Anyone with information about the case can contact Detective Ashley Fryer at 707-588-3513 . Some people don't think that vandalism is indeed a big deal . They don't see it as something that's drastic or important deal . They don't see it as something that's drastic or important . So why are we reporting this on the podcast this week ?

Well , vandalism is literally a written form of telling someone you don't care about them . It's a way of expressing disdain , distortion , corrupt , and it really highlights the fact that there is a negative or how do I phrase this ? There is a certain disposition that comes with vandalism . You've gone out of your way to ruin school property .

There has to be some type of an emotional attachment tied to the vandalism . In the TV show Boy Meets World there was an episode in which some students wanted to vandalize the school , or they ended up vandalizing the school or something in connection with Mr Feeney's classroom because they hated him that much , and so Corey and his friends got involved , etc .

So in this story , although we don't know who is responsible , we can conclude that there might be some emotional ties of frustration or aggravation in connection with this said vandalism . In our following story , notice how other students are dealing with teachers and the remarks that they make in connection with persons' race and nationality .

Here's our next story Alabama school cafeteria worker fired after collecting donations to pay for students' lunches . An Alabama elementary school cafeteria worker was fired for accepting donations to the school's lunch program before lying about

Student Safety and School Challenges

it to the principal during a public questioning in the crowded lunchroom . A vet done was terminated from her position at Shelby Elementary School when the school board ruled that she couldn't be trusted in her role .

Following the October incident , dunn , who worked in the district for nearly 10 years , accepted a donation to the school's parent-teacher organization fund for school lunches . However , the school claimed it wasn't part of Dunn's job description to take the money as she wasn't trained to handle the transactions .

The outlet added , school board members voted on the termination following a six-hour hearing Monday night . Before Monday , dunn , whose children attend the school 39 miles south of Birmingham , had been under suspension since October .

Dunn's legal team argued that her job description did not state that she couldn't collect the money and she only talked to the donor because they had reached out to her first . She also claimed she knew funds were being depleted and was aware that if it got below $200 , the money couldn't be used to pay for students' lunches .

School principal Stacey Anderholt confronted the worker in the crowded cafeteria in front of other employees to question Dunn about the donation . Dunn said she lied to Anderholt to protect the donor's identity and that she was scared to admit she had accepted the gesture .

The funds are monitored by several workers in the cafeteria and part of Dunn's job was to ensure students' accounts had money in them . The decision to fire Dunn was based on her lying to the principal , which she says she did because she was scared to admit what she had done .

Dunn's lawyer argued that none of the money was misused and was correctly placed into the fund . They also pointed to Dunn's employee reviews that showed a good record of employment . But the district noted she lied about money and it couldn't be overlooked . Dunn said firing was too harsh a punishment for what she did while pleading for her job back .

I made a mistake and I think that I should be able to do my job and go back to it . In my opinion , I think I should have been suspended for two weeks . She said at the hearing . I don't think I should get terminated just for not telling . What do you guys think ?

Do you think that the principle in this particular story is unreasonable or do you think that it's a one size fits all kind of thing ? You know it's been told that someone's record can be slickity clean , it can be the cleanest record , but it takes that one time for termination , especially in matters of the school system .

Let me know in the comments what you guys think . I would love to hear what you thought about this particular story In this following story . We do extend our condolences to the victim's family . In connection with this tragedy , lodi mourns high school senior killed in weekend car crash .

The Lodi School District is mourning a high school senior who was killed in an automobile crash on Sunday . School Superintendent Frank D'Amico sent out a statement to the community offering guidance to the students and their families as they deal with their grief .

In the statement the school also attached a grief resources folder offering guidelines on how to talk to a child dealing with the loss of someone close to them . The prosecutor's offices in Bergen and Passaic counties could not be reached for immediate comment about the identity of the victim .

Heartfelt sympathy to the students , family and close friends and asks that you join us in respecting their privacy at this difficult time . The amico said in his letter an unidentified 17 year old was killed in a crash in clifton on sunday just after midnight when two vehicles collided at the intersection of lakeview and crooks avenues .

The the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said when someone is unexpectedly taken away from you in death , guys , it is a tragedy like no other . And this is New Jersey news . This is North Jersey news , and I can't even begin to express just how difficult it may be for you guys to cope with this loss . This is a New Jersey-based podcast .

I am a school bus driver that's driven all over New Jersey and I used to have some routes in Bergen County and I can't imagine the devastation you guys are going through . We do send our condolences and we do encourage you guys to continue to find support through your friends and family . Don't isolate yourself too long .

That may be warranted in the beginning stages of your grief , but try your best to look to others for support and take practical steps to be able to begin that long road of recovery and healing . We wish you guys the best there in the Lodi High School .

We wish you guys the best there in the Lodi High School , another school continuing to deal with things that you just wouldn't believe . A school is supposed to be an environment , a safe haven , but that's not always the case . Disgusting conditions at Massachusetts High School raise health concerns .

Students at Milford High School are navigating an obstacle course of buckets and recycling bins containing dirty water from multiple roof leaks . Parents sent Boston 25 News pictures and

Teacher Misconduct and Student Rights

videos of hallways and common areas strewn with dozens of bins of brown water that students say smell awful say smell awful . One photo shows a construction cone duct taped upside down to a stairway railing , apparently funneling water into a bucket below .

Several families shared concerns about the health and safety of their kids , as well as teachers and administrators . Superintendent Kevin McEntree told Boston 25 News by email that there are three main areas of the high school affected by leaks and he is working to address them with the school committee and the school's facilities and maintenance teams .

Mcentree added that he expects the issue will also diminish due to the snow and ice pack melting will also diminish due to the snow and ice pack melting . Parents are also concerned about students slipping on the floor while shuffling to class and possible contaminants in the collecting water .

The district is currently in the building process for a new or renovated high school with the Massachusetts School Building Authority . Mcgintry said Milford is completing its eligibility period before moving to the feasibility study phase next year .

He added when you have a circumstance like this and this is something that I often say to my parents on my school bus route you see this circumstance , take your child out of the school temporarily . Do not allow your child to go to school in these unideal circumstances or these circumstances that are not ideal .

The purpose of school is for the child to go and learn undistracted . But if they're going to school and there is a mess in the building , there are things that make them feel uneasy , then that is where the problem becomes really , really bad . Because they're not going to school to learn now they're more distracted than anything else .

So now you have two problems . You have a problem because the school's not doing their part , and then you have a problem because your child can't function in the school environment . Take them out , guys .

Make sure you give that some thought about relocating your child temporarily when they have issues like this , or at least trying to homeschool them or getting their lessons sent to home . While this is cleared up , our following story just another reminder about why it's just best not to accept things from people .

At least 12 William Floyd Middle School students sickened in school after consuming gummies laced with THC . At least a dozen William Floyd Middle School students were sickened in school after consuming gummies

Steve Carell's Prom Surprise

laced with THC . According to school officials , eleven of them were transported to local hospitals after eating the marijuana edibles . One sick student was released to the custody of his parents . School officials from William Floyd Middle School tells News 12 a student handed out edible THC gummies to approximately 12 students .

Officials say students who consumed the edibles became sick . School officials say the Suffolk County Police Department and several local first responders responded in large numbers to care and assistance the school nurse and help students . School officials say the middle school was placed in a hold in place to allow first responders to get to students in need .

So police say no criminal charges have currently been filed . So when I was growing up , there were just certain things that my mom wouldn't allow me to do . One of them was taking candies or taking things from my classmates , and I used to think that was the strictest rule in the world .

But now , mom , I just want to say thank you because you were definitely on to something . Guys , be smart . Do not take anything from your classmates . Oftentimes people do this in an attempt to shake you up , in an attempt to cause you

Closing Thoughts and Gratitude

disarray . In our following story you'll find the circumstances surrounding this particular fight to be very interesting , to say the least . Two adults , three juveniles arrested after fight breaks out at West Middle School . More arrests have been made after a fight broke out in front of West Middle School last week .

Sioux City police say the fight happened around 3 pm on Wednesday , february 26 , on the driveway in front of the school . Court documents show it involved two adults and seven juveniles . Sioux City police say the fight occurred on March 3 . Police say they made four arrests connected to this fight March 3rd . Police say they made four arrests connected to this fight .

38-year-old Rebecca Gomez of Sioux City was arrested and booked into the Woodbury County Jail . Police say three girls were also arrested and their ages are 12 , 13 , and 14 . All four were charged with participating in a riot , a Class D felony . Due to the three girls being minors , their identities have not been released by authorities .

The first arrest for this case was made back on Friday February 28th . Police arrested 33-year-old Channing Walker of Sioux City and charged her with participating in a riot . Walker has since posted her bond . Under Iowa law , class D felonies , such as participating in a riot , have a maximum sentence of five years in prison .

Police say they are still investigating the fight but did not say if more arrests are expected . According to court documents , police acquired the video showing Walker and Gomez participating in the fight .

The Sioux City Community School District released the following statement after the most recent arrests from the fight , there is no leeway for violence of any kind on the school grounds . The individuals involved , including students , face serious , sometimes life-altering , consequences .

For students , this can include disciplinary action , including expulsion from school , and criminal charges . Walker was arrested and taken to the Woodbury County Jail two days after the fight , Friday February 28th . She was booked on a bond of $5,000 . Violence is never the answer .

I know that that sounds a bit cliche , but the reality of the matter , guys , is that violence doesn't solve any problems . You can get a lot done , and I keep telling people this , even on my school bus with my students . You fight someone . That's an altercation , but the problem does not go away simply because you got into a fight with someone .

The best course of action is to communicate thoroughly when you reasonably can and avoid life-altering circumstances that could cost you , your family or someone else their very lives . Here's our next story JCPS middle school teacher hit by car while helping outdoor science class .

A Jefferson County public schools teacher was hit by a driver while helping students in an outdoor science class . Barrett traditional middle school principal , amy Streit , said the incident happened during first period . Streit said the students were participating in a hand-on learning experience .

When a ball rolled into the roadway , the teacher went to retrieve it and was in a crosswalk when a driver struck them with their car . The teacher was quickly attended to and taken by ambulance to the hospital . Streit added , saying the teacher was conscious and talking when EMS arrived . She is expected to survive her injuries . A letter was sent out to parents .

Streit said some students did witness the teacher being hit . Our school counselors are currently working with students to provide support and any student who needs additional help will have access to counseling services . Please encourage your child to speak with a counselor if they feel they need assistance processing what happened .

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department , the driver remained on scene and called 911 . Lmpd's 5th Division is handling the ongoing investigation . However , no charges are expected . Well , it is nice to know that this was not an intentional , reckless , careless circumstance in which the driver was not being 100% focused .

I thought that this was a story , that it started rough but ended on a positive note . The teacher , hopefully , is going to recover well . Regarding this injury , I did want to ask you guys , though what is the craziest thing that you've ever experienced in school ? I would love to get your feedback .

In connection with that , I would say for me , the craziest thing that I witnessed because the kids in this story witnessed this teacher getting hit I would say the craziest thing that I witnessed second grade , I was nine years old and my teacher , you know well I mean , with the aid of some students , they pushed her and she fell out and hit her head and was

concussed . Wow , looking back , you know , nine-year-olds can be very , very , very destructive . And then she quit her job . After that . She never taught there again , so that was the craziest thing that I've experienced . Well , guys , we are going into our next story . This one is very , very cool because it involves a celebrity assisting a school .

Our next story High school Spanish teacher 33 accused of having sex with 17 year old student . A high school Spanish teacher from California is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student . According to police , dulce Flores , a teacher at Riverbank High School outside Modesto , is charged with having sex with a 17-year-old while he was a student in 2023, .

According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office , the 33-year-old had been teaching at the school since 2016, . Cops said Authorities launched an investigation into the sick teacher after a school official received a tip about the inappropriate relationship . She was placed on a leave of absence while the case is investigated .

According to a statement from the Riverbank Unified School District , the Modesto B reported said that it is cooperating with authorities and has been in contact with families of students enrolled in Flores' class to minimize any disruption to their institution for the remainder of the academic school year .

Flores was arrested at her home on Tuesday and booked at the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of unlawful sexual behavior with a minor and sex . She was being held on a $20,000 bail .

Cops said there was a reach out to the sheriff's office and the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office for additional information , but so far nothing in connection with this story . I can't imagine as to how persons may be feeling Generally .

When someone is portrayed as a predator , we often start to associate them with certain characteristics , but this teacher looks very different from the average individual you might associate with these particular stories . Well , what is the lesson for us ? In short , it doesn't matter what a person's physical appearance may be .

Anyone with any opportunity in connection with wrong desires can act , and this story really highlights that . We wish the victim a well recovery and , for those who knew this teacher personally , we also extend our deepest sorries and concern for what occurred in this particular story .

In this following story , note how one student was dealt with in connection with her teacher . Eighth grader who sat for Pledge of Allegiance , says teacher , told her you should go back to your country . 14-year-old Danielle Holoff said that an experience with her teacher at East Middle School in Plymouth has made eighth grade an anxious experience for her .

She said that it started on January the 10th when the Pledge of Allegiance started playing over school speakers . I decided I wanted to sit down because I didn't feel comfortable standing because of what's happening in Palestine , said Danielle .

After the pledge was over , the teacher addressed the class and said that anyone that was sitting down was being very disrespectful to soldiers to America .

Danielle said that after class she went to the teacher to explain why she was sitting , but says the teacher spoke over her continuously , ultimately saying since you live in this country and enjoy its freedom , if you don't like it , you should go back to your country . I was sobbing and I ran out of the room crying , said Danielle .

She said that she ran into a different teacher and then went to the counselor's office . Her father , jacob Halif , said that they have since learned that the teacher admitted to the statement . Their only solution to put my daughter in a different class as opposed to doing anything with the teacher .

They wouldn't tell us what type of disciplinary action , if any , was taken . According to the ACRL , danielle's story is a direct violation of her First Amendment right and they filed a formal complaint with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights . They say that if the district does not take action they will file a lawsuit .

I think the teacher needs to be removed , said Jacob . Her father it was traumatizing , it hurt and I know she could do that to other people . Her father it was traumatizing , it hurt and I know she could do that to other people , added Danielle .

Not much details afterwards as to what happened with this particular teacher , but in some cases persons will be offended when they feel as though someone else is being disrespectful to their national rights etc . When I was in school and there were persons who didn't want to participate in the saluting of the flag , we were told to stand respectfully .

We didn't have to pledge , but we could stand out of respect . Maybe the concern here that individuals may have is that this young girl sat rather than stood as a familiar sign of respect . Well , in any case , the reality of it is that this podcast does not endorse or does not pick sides in connection with persons , race , nationalities , backgrounds , etc .

But the goal is always to be able to promote respect and dignity for all persons involved . We hope that this is able to be addressed and taken care of in a manner that will leave everyone feeling dignified and fortified as they move throughout this school year . Here's our final story . Steve Carell surprises high school students with free prom tickets .

Actor Steve Carell is sending Southern California high school students affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles to the prom for free . The office actor and comedian said Tuesday in an Instagram video that he was working with the Alice's Kids charity to pay for prom seniors at six high schools in Pasadena , the Los Angeles area .

Fires destroyed more than 16,000 homes , businesses and other structures and killed at least 29 people in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood and Altadena area north of Pasadena . It also scorched school campuses , upending the lives of thousands of students and parents who were left scrambling looking for classrooms for their kids to go to .

Alice's Kids will donate about $175,000 for more than 800 students to attend the annual Rite of Passage dance for graduating students . Tickets typically range from $100 to $150 each .

An Instagram video posted by John Muir High School , one of the recipient schools , shows students clapping and cheering as they were surprised with Carell's announcement during a school assembly .

Another recipient includes Aveson Charter School , whose campus for kindergarten through fifth grade students burned down in the fires and building for sixth through twelfth graders , making the building damaged and unusable . Correll also participated in the star-studded Skate for LA Strong hockey tournament last week to raise money for fire relief last week .

To raise money for fire relief . In closing , the actor said have fun , enjoy the prom and remember this is Steve Carell . I find it to be so encouraging when actors take moments like this to be able to help persons in need .

What was experienced in Los Angeles , california , was devastating , to say the least , but I'm glad that you guys are getting the support that you need to make your prom fun and exciting and , after a year of just ups and downs , sometimes it's good to be able to have some channeled , wholesome fun . So just be careful at your prom this year , guys .

Don't overdo it and make wise and sensible decisions . Well guys , this has been a wonderful episode . Do you remember our theme ? How to keep emotional balance .
