Hi, Anne Corbin, your Mind Body Spirit Mentor. I'm here with this week's episode of the mind body spirit connection. You are a complex being composed of 3 parts, mind, body, and spirit. Just get those 3 parts working together in harmony Anne upscale your life. I'm here to show you how. Last week, I began speaking about of diet.

Anne, of course, I managed to cover very little information overall because it's an enormous subject Anne although it arouses a great deal of interest Anne many figure conscious females, probably have more than a passing knowledge about the calorie content of food. It's actually quite surprising how little we actually know about the food in the shops that we're buying as consumers. City Children, indeed, Frequently, don't even link the foods that they're eating such as meat and butter.

And milk to actual animals. I've had personally a long standing interest in food. And I studied human nutrition and food science at university. This was by choice because I've always been interested in it and my college had a huge agricultural bias, and much of what I studied was housed in AgfaAC which was the faculty of agriculture, and I was headed for teaching, teacher training that would have be in math and science.

So it was a very acceptable accompaniment to the usual chemistry zoology Botany Majors. For as long as I can remember, there have been sensational food scares or at least frightening advice. Suggesting dire consequences for any that chose not to follow it. For example, how it was essential if you wanted to lose weight to cut all fat, all fat out of your diet. And yet, In earlier years, there had been a publication called Eatfatandgrow slim. Anne then the advice changed.

It became cut animal fat out of your diet and switched to vegetable oil. Much more about that in a few minutes. We were told not to drink coffee at 1 stage because it was downright bad for you. And then the advice changed. It was a couple or few, a few cups a day are good. Just don't consume it too close to bedtime or the caffeine content will keep you awake. Did you know? There's also caffeine in tea. It's known as tea in theeine, but it's the same thing.

It was just that two studies were carried out in different countries about 10 years apart, but it's now generally agreed that caffeine is present as a stimulant in coffee tea Anne cocoa. Anne migraine sufferers sufferers often have learned that chocolate cake tends to bring on Anne attack. And really dark chocolate, we are now told, is good for us. If you go for the 70% plus cocoa variety. I admit that I like it, but I wouldn't want to eat much at one time. Because it's both rich and bitter ish.

That's to say it doesn't have that addictive sugar, fat, combination to any large extent. It doesn't have that nice creamy texture that melts on your tongue. Some months ago, I came across an article about an experiment that was carried out by the CIA of all outfits. Where they fed various substances such as paracetamol, DMT. That's a hallucinogenic drug. LSD similarly to spiders to see how it would affect their webs.

I can't find said article anymore, but I recall the most dramatic effect on web building by far was caffeine. The other substances resulted in a lack of symmetry and occasional messy bits, but with caffeine, There were more holes than Webb. The spider in question created a total mess, and there were no ways that poor creature was going to catch any flies. How many of us can't start the day without coffee?

I'm personally not too hung up on coffee, but I would absolutely hate to be deprived of my tea. We all have our poisons of choice. Ideally, we should stick to water. But heavens, that's pretty unexciting if you're drinking water and nothing else. And beware of the additives in water. When it's over chlorinated, you can smell it they say that they put chlorine in there to kill off bugs. And I've spoken before, even last week, I mentioned it, about fluoride.

On that subject, it's hard to know who to believe. Earlier in the year, I spoke about a petition, which didn't even get enough signatures to be debated in parliament. That was protesting against Anne. To quietly fluoridate water all over the UK. There are no health benefits to fluoridation. If people are really concerned about it for their teeth, then they can buy toothpaste with fluoride in it. It's also nearly impossible to buy toothpaste without fluoride. I have to get mine off the net.

Fluorides are a toxic industrial by product, and they contribute to what's become known as the dumbing down of younger generations The Nazis used fluoridated water to make the inmates of the concentration camps compliant Anne easy to control. Join the dots. I've researched it and found that you can purchase fairly expensive water filters. Which will work against the fluoride, the regular ones will not remove it.

I use a filter to alkalize my water In a future podcast, I'm going to talk about the benefits of an alkaline diet. But for now, I promise to return to this vexed question of animal fat, such as butter against vegetable oil.

Back in chemistry class, I recall having to research the byproducts of crude oil when I was about 12, and I'll always recall the disbelief I felt when I learned that Marjoriene was made from oil Anne in the podcast that I did about Rockefeller and his, impact on Big Farmer, we learned in that how many chemicals are derived from crude oil. It's quite amazing what comes from that stuff as well as the fuels with which we run our motor vehicles.

You will be aware that a huge percentage of allopathic drugs have this same chemical basis linked back to crude oil. And no wonder that as a society, We in the so called civilized world are getting sicker, and it's long term sickness very often, autoimmune diseases where the body is attacking itself. So My mum had always been in the habit of buying butter for the table, but I recall we had blocks of margarine in the fridge, presumably for Corbin.

I don't actually recall, but I do remember that suddenly they began making solid, at least spreadable margarine from vegetable oil, specifically sunflower oil. Using the process of hydrogenation. And polyunsaturates suddenly became a wonder food. Abandon butter.

It's deaf to the arteries, restaurants Anne fish and ship shops and food manufacturers, although there wasn't such a proliferation of those more than, say, 20 years ago, the fast food industry has really taken off in the last 20, 25 years. I can't actually put a date on it. And also restaurants, they use oil, vegetable oil.

Oh, for practically everything, their food is swimming in it, and the bad thing is they very often use and reuse and reuse these fats for, frying stuff such as chips and battered main Corbin, chip shops used to use lard for their chips and They used to taste a lot better. And you would get those lovely crispy roast potatoes when you roast them in lard or goose fat Then some years later, they discovered that polyunsaturates are actually bad for us.

Anne Corbin addition, we are being warned against vegetable oils. That is the ones that come from seeds and so on. Because such high temperatures are needed to extract the oil that there's no nutritional value in the finished product. And what's more, they found ways of extracting oil inexpensively, from unexpected places like corn husks, rice bran, and grape seeds.

It started about 150 years ago when they were looking for something to do with the waste products after cotton had been picked and shipped off for cloth making. Olive oil, of course, is different because olives are obviously oily Anne they're a fruit. Anne so long as you buy extra virgin cold pressed olive oil, you're onto a winner. For salads and so on, but it doesn't work so well with cooking. So what's the answer?

Well, coconut oil fits the bill because this can be heated to very high temperatures before it denatures. It's also comparatively expensive, but at home when you're cooking, ideally, you're not going to be doing a lot of frying because it's not a particularly healthy way to cook.

Now, the amount of vegetable oil used in food processing, again, ramping up in the last 20 years or so, since all these convenient packaged foods showed up in the supermarkets, vast quantities of hidden oil is in these products because it delivers flavor. And of course, I don't think they count it as a fat so it doesn't stop them saying factory. And because it's hidden, we aren't aware that it's there, but everything from ice cream to biscuits, to sauces, to frozen chips, heavens.

There's even canola oil, in the UK, that's known as rape seed oil in oat milk, Anne there's this debate about omega 3 and omega 6. Something like 15, 20 years ago, I recall reading that our diets were generally deficient in omega 6. So I, I thought it was a good thing. Anne I just made sure that my diet contained a bit.

Now I've learned that currently consuming massively more omega 6 Anne we need because we only need a small amount, which I think would be supplied by a tiny fistful of cashew nuts on a daily basis. So no people are checking labels attempting to ensure that there's no amiga 6 in there Anne they are actively popping omega 3 supplements to try and balance up the 2 because there's supposed to be a 1 to 1 or a more than 1 to 1 ratio between the two omegas.

The problem is that because omega 6 is prevalent in all vegetable oils, Anne we consume so much of them, the result is that our waist lines are expanding at an alarming rate As a population, we are much bigger than we were say 40 or 50 years ago. And every second person these days can frankly no longer be described as slim. Many are convinced that it's the overconsumption of hidden fats that's causing this alarming gain in weight. Or obesity, as they call it, from a technical point of view.

Yes. You're right. It's a mine field So what is the answer? It's eat natural or as naturally as you can. If it's in a packet or a container, or a sealed plastic bag of some sort, it's probably not good for you. If you can't pronounce it it's probably not good for you. If it's ready to eat and all you have to do is heat it up, well, think carefully. Read the labels. Avoid sugars. Remember, animal fats aren't the villains we were once led to believe. It isn't practical to avoid all these things.

I'm fully aware, and I couldn't do it either. But knowledge is power. And at least I believe I'm doing what I can to reduce my intake of killer foods.
