Hi, Anne Corbin, your Mind Body Spirit Mentor. I'm here with this week's episode of the mind body spirit connection. You are a complex being composed of 3 parts, mind, body, and spirit. Just get those 3 parts working together in harmony Anne upscale your life. I'm here to show you how. Well, hello. Got a change of pace for you today friends. I'd like to introduce you to my friend and colleague, Mickey Duffy, whom I met some time ago on a training course.
Since then, we have bumped into each other more than once on different training courses, which is the kind of thing that fires people like us up because we're always investing and improving our knowledge and our growth and our consciousness. But Nikki is already very highly qualified in NLP, EFT, hypnotherapy, coaching, energy consciousness, Nikki, would you like to take over, or what what else do you do?
Well, yes, I'm I've I first started, training in the, alternative, holistic therapies, over 20 years ago Anne, yeah, so I've done a huge range of them. And, one of the, things I love to work with is do energy work. And I also teach a a touch therapy as well. So, yeah, lots lots there that, that as as you said, lots of trainings and, and working with clients in many different modalities. And what inspired you to get into this line of work?
Well, so I was inspired, really, through a a journey of my own discovery. 26 years ago, I had a, a trauma, which hugely impacted, my life. My, older sister, Sophie's, estranged husband, murdered Sophie, their baby Amina, and both my parents. Anne that hugely impacted, you know, as you can imagine, hugely impacted my life. And from then. It was it was almost a, a dis a quest for discovery. It's like, what what tools can I use to to, rebound from this? How can I cope with life?
After something like that has happened. So, yeah, So you help other people to get over trauma as well. Right? Well, yes. Yeah. So it was it was through my own journey of like, oh, what the hell do I do now? And looking going through the therapy system that was offered by my GP and by what was available then 26 years ago, which was based just a small amount of counseling and, medication antidepressants, that kind of thing, which it it wasn't didn't really hit the mark.
It was it was a a helpful in some ways, and yet there was so much more that was that was required to to really support me through that. So I, in my personal journey, for looking for therapies that really worked, that made a difference. I then discovered some which worked better than others. And I I was looking for practical tools, you know, talking talking kind of took you so far, but I I I got really frustrated with, with only being able to talk.
So, learning tools like EFT, the gentle tapping therapies, and hypnotherapy, and other things which gave empowered you as a client to have something, you know, have some tools for when you weren't in a therapy session Anne, life showed up and and knocked you sideways. So that that's been one of the things that I particularly was looking for when I was on my own, journey as a as a holistic therapist. You know, what what will really help my clients.
So, basically, they don't need me around all the time. This is the big thing when you get into learning about energy. Individually, we can heal ourselves. We just need to learn the procedures and the processes how to do it. Absolutely. Yes. So what would you say is, the most universally effective of the processes that you teach. So the there's, an amazing, touch therapy that I teach from a body of work called access consciousness. Mhmm. And the touch therapy is called access bars.
Anne one of the things I love about it is it's such a gentle, mind body spirit connection therapy. So the way that it works is, the per the person the client comes in, they they have gentle, they relax, sitting down or lying down fully closed. So it's it's a very gentle non invasive Anne. And and then the therapist just gently touches various points on the head, which are called the bars.
And when run, those bars release, thoughts, feelings, emotions, physically, energetically, and beyond, but you don't even need to know about. You don't need to talk about You don't need to, pinpoint the the trauma that it's clearing. It just works energetically with the body, with the emotions, and and beyond to support you in the way that that you require at that time. That sounds really interesting, really worth investigating. So is there more information about that on your website?
Yes. Yes. You can, find out specifically about that. Yes. So on on my website, choosing for today.com, there are various logs on there regarding the bars, which is spelled like, b a r s, like, Well, the very the very, like, a bar. I think white bars. Yeah. Like, prison bars. Oh, I didn't think prison bars. I got one bar. 9 bars, prison bars. So it it releases you.
Well, the way I like to look at it, the re releases you from the prison, the, you know, of of limitations and stuckness with the access bars. Fascinating. Okay. There's something else rather interesting on your website, which is this, fabulousness quiz. Oh, yes. Yes. I've been having so much fun with that. It's it's sort of playing with, you know, people who love to have more in life.
And, the the thing about life is, particularly if you've had a trauma Corbin or if you've had some kind of, dip in your life. It's it's almost as if it's it's not okay to ask for Corbin. It's not okay to have joy in your life again if you've had a trauma. And and I would say the opposite of that is true. In fact, if you've had a trauma, I see it as even more vital to do what brings you joy, to find what brings you joy, to have more of what is your kind of fabulous in your life.
So the fabulousness quiz is all about that, that's bringing out more of what is fabulousness to you. What is fabulous for you? And, and the quiz, it's it's a playbook quiz where you can, you just answer a few questions in 4 key areas of life. And then at the end, you get your fabulousness score Anne, and you also get some free resources, to support you in what having more of what is fabulous for you in your life. That sounds great.
So in other words, you don't only focus on people who've been through trauma and need healing. Absolutely. Yes. Yeah. It's people can come to me for any any area they would like support with, you know, some sometimes just, we can get stuck in any area. We can get stuck with a relationship. We can get stuck financially. We can get sort of energetically stuck. And, and feel like we can't move forward.
So any kind of stuckness, I I love to help to help people empower people and give them tools so that they can move forward in a direction, that that supports them and that they love. Indeed. I mean, I I absolutely resonate with what you're saying because, of course, this podcast is the mind body spirit to connect Anne you see a connection as I do. Right? Absolutely.
Yes. Absolutely. Because, what I've found with with clients is is, sometimes if they've got something going on in their mind, if they're their mind is full of worry or full of negativity or, you know, cluttered up, then it can impact the the physic physical body. It can create pain and disease Anne and overall disharmony in in life. And if if and similar similarly, if you have pain, physical pain in one area, it can create disharmony, you know, mentally and spiritually as well.
So Yes. Absolutely. All connected. And what would you say is the first step to take in order to get unstuck? Well, that's a great question because Anne of the first steps I would say is is recognizing that you are stuck and not making yourself wrong for it you know, we we all have times when when things are flowing and they're easy for us. And then times when things are really feel really stagnant, and difficult.
And in those difficult times, it's it's kind of easy to turn in on ourselves and blame ourselves for for not not being able to move forward and make ourselves wrong and and get cross and angry. And so so the first thing is to be gentle with yourself. Recognize that you've come to a place that's stuck, and that's not wrong. You're not wrong.
Anne allow yourself the space of allowance to then Anne you recognize that you're stuck and and you would like to move forwards, then you can ask yourself a question, and I find questions less so empowering to, break, break apart a a stuck situation. So one of the, a a really powerful question, and and don't be, put off by the fact that question is such a simple thing. The simplicity is it belies the potency of the question.
So one of the questions I love to use comes from access consciousness, and it's what else is possible such a simple question. So in in a situation where you're feeling stuck, allow yourself the space to ask that question. Okay. I'm finished up here. Breathe. So what else is possible? What else is possible that I haven't considered? Because so often when we're feeling stuck, everything enclosed on us, and and it feels like there there is no choice, and there are no, ways out.
I'm asking that question, what else is possible is a way to open up the possibilities, open up the space for, for possibilities to, to occur to you. And and also it's opening up the space for the universe Anne the energetically and spiritually for you you're asking for support from the universe. What else is possible? Yes. Yes. Indeed. Because the universe is there for us, and life is supposed to be happening through us, not to us. Right? Love that.
Yes. And, of course, you, like me, you are very heavily into choice because that's even what you've called your website. It's choosing for today. So do you want to have a word about choice? Yes. Yeah. I mean, like like you said, choice is it's such a huge thing, for for me, and it's it's part of the reason that I created this business.
Was way back 26 years ago when I was deep in the in the midst of the a trauma of, losing my family through murder, Anne and everything was, like, closing in on me, and it was it was like, all the chaos Anne all the, trauma was was swirling around me. And I remember I and everyone was looking to me, like, watch what should we do? How should we react? You know, you've lost all your family, what how should we react? Anne, of course, I had no clue at the time.
And and I'd I just remember with all of this craziness all filing around, I had a moment of absolute clarity where I I kind of had a a download of pictures of faces of people that I've known through my life, like neighbors or, older people and all that, where I'd seen their faces gnarled with bitterness, anger and hatred where their their their lives had had kind of got stuck in time of a trauma or a an upset Anne and they'd, lock into that and hadn't let
that go and hadn't allowed themselves to live beyond it, even though they're physically there, emotionally, they were still stuck in that trauma. Anne I I just remember the clarity of that moment. In that moment, I had choice I could choose to live in the bitterness and the hate and the resentfulness and the anger and the fury and the revenge of all this all trauma that had gone on, or I could make a different choice.
And that the potency of the the simple simplicity of choice and and the the hugeness of what choice could do for us, you know, choosing the bitterness, like, I'd seen those those nod faces and and people who were just, like, narky and nasty and That was a choice I could make, and yet there were other choices that were also available to me. Even Anne and and what I found so powerful about that was that even in moments where it felt like there is no choice, we still do have choice.
Absolutely right. I remember in my past, I would quite often say, Well, I have to. I've got no choice. I never say that now because there's always a choice even choosing to think that you have no choice. Love that. Yes. Yeah. And even choosing not to make a choice is is still a choice.
And, yeah, so choice is is something that, that is is so I find so powerful, and I love to when I'm working with clients, I love to, empower them to open up their possibilities in their life and to recognize how many choices they do have and how empowering that that is. And that can be. Oh, well, Nikki, it's been absolutely lovely speaking with you. I don't want to go on too long, because I think I've gone past my usual length, but not a problem. Do you have any advice for people?
What would you say the optimal tool is to get started with? Well, so choice is a is a fabulous tool. And, as I said, the the question, opening, asking and empowering question. So what else possible, a question that opens up possibilities. Anne, also, what I'd love to suggest to, to your audience is, would you like to take my free fabulousness quiz?
Because there's still great tools in there, and it's it's a way of, of starting that process of, like, opening up the possibilities to have more fabulousness in your life. And you can access the fabulous all at, choosing for today.comforward/quiz. Wonderful. Thank you so much. I'm going to put the links in the show notes so people will be able to connect with you definitely tune in and take the quiz. It's good fun people because I've done it.
It's definitely good fun, and it's we'll tell you quite a bit about yourself. Super. Thank you so much for having me on, Anne. My pleasure, Nikki. I hope we can do it again. Too. So friends, that wraps up the mind body spirit connection for this Let me know, please, if there are any specific subjects that you would like me to include in a a podcast, join me, same time next week, or connect with me anytime on social media.
