I'm Ann Corbyn, your crossover coach here with this week's episode of The mind body spirit connection. You are a complex being composed of 3 parts. Just get those 3 parts. Mind and spirit, working together in harmony, and upscale your life. I'm here to show you how. Last time, I asked the question, who do you think you are? And I finished out by saying, you are made of energy Anne you are quite a bit bigger than you think.
So this energy that you're made of Some of it has been compressed and compressed and compressed until it becomes solid or at least it appears to be that way. It's to do with how we perceive things down here in the 3rd dimension. Obviously, what you perceive as solid is the body. And I also mentioned that it's likely you were originally taught that you were a body Anne that you had a soul.
So when you get accustomed to the idea that you are a soul Anne that you're using a body in order to have an experience here on earth All sorts of possibilities open up and questions. So Where is the soul? And what does it look like? Well, to most, it's invisible, but There are those who can see the energies surrounding each one of us. And this is referred to as the aura It's been known about for centuries, of course, but not generally discussed.
Because For so, so many years, centuries, you were likely to be accused of witchcraft if you ever mentioned such things. If your behavior or your perceptions were out of the ordinary, people were scared. And back in the day, anything that went wrong, they always looked Corbin scapegoat. And hundreds of thousands of people were burned at the stake for being witches. Now children are much more perceptive than adults because their imaginations haven't been shut down yet and repressed.
And many can apparently see this energy. Some children have an imaginary friend or Anne invisible friend. And what do you suppose these friends actually are? Some children can see lights following other people around or, actually encasing other people's bodies. But if they mention this to their parents, they often get told, oh, don't be silly, dear. Corbin they try and discuss with their friends, most of whom probably can't see the energy, then the friends think they're a bit strange.
And stop talking about it. I mean, they it causes them to stop talking about it because The children who have the gift to see the energy, they want to fit in Anne they want to be liked because that's her basic human need. Anne so their ability unfortunately shuts down. And maybe they forget that they even had it. Because think back to your childhood, how much do you actually remember? It depends how dramatic your experiences were, I suppose.
But if your life was on a relatively even keel and generally pleasant, You probably have very few memories. So I guess it's about a 100 years or so. Since eastern practices such as yoga and meditation were introduced to the West. It seems to have started in America and spread from there. And certainly by the sixties or seventies, I gather that a great deal of momentum had built up. But it was still a bit culty.
It kind of associated with hippies and flower power and smoking substances and so forth. But it seems now that all that has changed, and more and more people have a yoga practice. And have recognized the benefits of meditation, which are enormous. It really has become mainstream and okay to talk about In fact, you will certainly have heard of people discussing mindfulness I couldn't tell you precisely what the difference is.
I would say they were first cousins, I think meditation goes a lot deeper Anne Yeah. I I won't say anymore for now. It's more and more acceptable to talk about spirituality without being thought of as a Jesus freak or other derogatory terms. It's unkind. But, you know, we're so quick to judge and to put labels on other people. And it's a habit, really, that we should break, but That's what happens.
And that's why a lot of people who are awakening gradually tend not to talk about it because all of us are still concerned about how we're perceived by other people. Anne I mentioned this last time, but I just want to say it again. Spirituality is not another word for religion. I used to think that the two words were interchangeable and that they referred to the same thing. Well, more or less, but to to be more accurate, I wasn't thinking at all. I just never considered.
That there might be a difference, but there is, and it's significant. Religions are just a set of rules.
Religions grew up to control people Anne the reason that Christianity spread throughout the, the civilized world at the time, which essentially was around the Mediterranean, it was due to the influence of the Emperor Constantine who being a Roman Anne therefore Anne excellent organizer, he saw the value of taking something that was already there Anne taking advantage of it and unifying all the various tribes and nations that the Romans had
conquered Anne unifying them under the same religion, but the trouble is what he produced as Christianity is not exactly the same as the original Christianity Anne is the followers of Christ It it morphed. It changed into something rather different. Anyway, I'm going off tag again. Anne speaker I know defines the difference between religion and spirituality as follows, religions provide answers, but spirituality asks questions. So I'm not going to go further with that debate right now.
I just wanted to make the distinction because I'm probably going to say very frequently in these podcasts, things like you are a spiritual being. And by that, I'm just referencing that the spirit is an integral part of your being. And the 3rd part of our makeup, mind, body, and spirit, well, in that phrase, it's the first part of our tripartite makeup, is the mind. Anne again, it's possible that you imagine your mind is in your head. Well, why wouldn't you? But, actually, that's not true either.
Your brain is in your head, but your mind involves a lot more than just your brain. In fact, it's become much more generally recognized now that we have 3 brings. In addition to the one in the head, there is a very important one in your gut, and I refer to gut instinct Anne hunches, and those feelings that you get, and you don't really know where they come from.
Anne then, of course, there's the heart, and the heart brain is such an interesting topic of investigation that there's a whole institute called the Hart Math Institute in America, which has been set up to study it Check it out online. It's free. They run courses. There's a lot of worthwhile stuff there. If you Just give it a little bit of your time. Anne now guess what? There's even more involved when we refer to the mind. Yep. Every cell in the body probably forms part of your mind.
It's not just the cells of the central nervous system, which is how your 5 sensors work. The central nervous system connects your sensory organs to the brain. That's the one in your head, which interprets the sensations that are perceived, but We, we used to think that that was all there was to it. However, every cell in your body perceives. It almost thinks many cells just know what to do without being instructed.
I want to talk specifically about the hairs on your head because we used to think that Only the roots of the hairs were alive, which, of course, explains why it doesn't hurt when you get your haircut, However, you might have heard an interesting story Ray McLennan relates this in his raising angel finance workshops at Progressive Towers. During the Vietnam War, the Americans found it very difficult to track the Vietnamese fighters.
And The problem was they kept disappearing into the jungle, and it was the first time the Americans had experience of Gorilla Warfare. It just hadn't happened before. And somebody suggested that they should conscript some Native American trackers who seems to have a genius at following anything and everything in all kinds of terrain. And specifically, they were hunters, but were these skills going to be transferrable possibly?
So, the chiefs were consulted Anne the trackers agreed to join the army. And the army, dress them up in US camouflage. And army boots and all the rest of it, they got army style, shaving heads, and they were put to work. Anne they were complete failures. All their skills seemed to have deserted them. So they were sent back to the US as, was the useless. And the problem was their skills didn't all come back when they arrived home.
They were still, well, almost as useless as tracking as they had been in Vietnam, Even though they were back on home soil, but then gradually over many months, they seemed to recover. Anne remember what to do. But what actually made the difference was they were allowed to grow their hair long again. And to roam about barefoot Anne in Indian dress, which, probably doesn't cover very much. But it left their bodies open to sensing the information, which is what they needed to track their prey.
Now if we apply this to our daily lives, it's generally accepted that women's intuition trump's men's intuition. Some men think they don't have any at all, which is not true. They just haven't developed it. But women generally have longer hair, and they don't cover up as much of their bodies, at least in the summer. So back to the Mindbody Spirit Connection Anne everything working in harmony, this is what's meant to happen.
Your soul or spirit is continually attempting to get messages through to your mind. So just for now, when I say mind, imagine your consciousness, which is the brain in your head. I suppose that's the, you could think of that as the control center. But the soul does so by sending messages to the body because that's all it can do. But when we aren't really tuned in, and ready to perceive the messages that the body tries to send up to the consciousness, the messages get lost.
So simplifying that, you could summarize it like this. The soul speaks to the body, and the body speaks to the mind, but the mind doesn't listen. In other words, we need to train our minds. Were you brought up with the advice? Don't let your heart rule your head Anne nonsense like that. Have you ever ignored a gut feeling? Because you haven't learned to trust them yet. And then later on, you realize that you would have been so much better off if you'd acted on that vague feeling that you had.
There are plenty of ways to develop these skills We need to teach the mind that is teach the thinking mind. Teach it how to listen for the subtle signals sent by the body, which is the rest of the mind. Anne those signals are from your soul. They are from your spirit self, your higher self. And remember, The mind body spirit connection is all about getting the 3 parts of you to work in armony. So friends, that wraps up the mind body spirit connection for this week.
