True personal growth ultimately will lead to fulfillment, and it's my intention with these podcasts to connect more deeply with you. Thank you for joining me, Anne Corbin and my guests and welcome to this episode. Today, I'd like to invite you into a reflective space, a space where we can explore together how the images that we hold of ourselves shape our lives in powerful and sometimes invisible ways. Let's begin with a simple but important question.
When you think of yourself, when you picture yourself in your mind's eye, What do you see? What's the image that quietly or not so quietly leads you through your days? Is it an image of strength or possibility or is it perhaps an image shaped by old doubts or a sense of limitation? It's such a valuable exercise to pause and really consider this because the image that you hold most strongly is what we call your dominant image and it has a way of pulling you towards it like gravity.
So whatever it is that you believe about yourself at the deepest level will quietly but steadily influence your choices, your actions, your emotions and even your circumstances and draw them all into alignment with it, whether you like it or not. And this is mindset work. You probably have an idea of what mindset is.
I used to think it was just a word that psychologists and personal development trainers used for attitude, because it sounded a little bit more educated, but in fact mindset is composed of more than just attitude, it also is built up over a long, long time and it's the result of programming and all those beliefs that you hold whether or not you recognize that they're there. So let's consider for a moment the importance of this single dominant thought.
Something I've found both in my own life and in work with clients is that we can't sustain two competing images of ourselves for very long. One will always end up leading. And if you picture yourself all the time as confident and capable, yet deep down, you carry an image of not being good enough, It's that deep and often unspoken and very often unacknowledged image that tends to win. And it could show up in the shape of, I don't really think this will work, but I'll give it a try anyway.
That's doubt, and it's incredibly incompatible with success. It's as though your mind is trying to drive in two opposite directions at once and we all know how that will end up. We stall, we struggle, we feel pulled apart, oh and maybe then overwhelm sets in and we take no action at all even though we know that we're capable of some action, but in other words, we procrastinate. And then we tell ourselves stories to justify why we aren't moving forward.
Now I run powerful trainings and mentoring programs which are designed specifically for people like you, that is logical thinkers who are ready to reconnect with what truly matters without giving up their edge. Remember, you have nothing to prove, and it's time to start living again. So here's something you might like to reflect on. Do you notice any competing images within yourself? Perhaps part of you dreams of success in business or in relationships, in health maybe, and then another part quietly whispers, I'm not sure I deserve that or that's for other people, not for me. And when that happens, when those competing thoughts are at play, it's very hard to move forward with clarity.
We end up stuck or exhausted from the inner battle. Here is a gentle reflection on fear. Let me ask you, and if you're in a place where you can pause for a moment, you might even like to jot some of this down: What are the fears that most often come up for you? Could you name, say, five of them?
fear of failure, the fear of losing something or someone, the fear of being judged, the fear of not measuring up, the fear of letting someone down, or perhaps something that's just very personal to you. Take a breath for a few moments and just let those thoughts come to mind. If it's practical, press the pause button and make that list. And this is why I'm asking because both fear and faith come from one belief.
They're two sides of the same coin and each one asks us to believe in something that we can't yet see. If your belief or your inner certainty is tied to your fears, then that's what will tend to move you forward. And if your belief is anchored in positive possibility, then that's the direction that your life will flow in. It's not so much about what happens to us, but what we are attuned to, what we notice, what we're drawn toward, that we really take action on.
You know how we tell ourselves these stories? Let me share one of mine. I have a friend who for many years quietly carried around the label of being what she called just an ordinary struggler.
This was someone with so much talent and so much heart, but because of the things that she picked up as she was growing up, getting through school, they were labels, a few comments from others, a few throwaway remarks from teachers who weren't properly trained, and a few setbacks that really stayed with her. She came to see herself through that lens. And do you know what happened? The image shaped her choices. She would undercharge for her work. I'm not worth it, she would think.
And she wouldn't put herself forward for opportunities. She'd say things like, oh, I'll never make it. Why bother? Why waste time? And so life kept reflecting back what she believed. Something similar happened to me when I learned about archetypes. One of the archetypes is a warrior. There are four main archetypes. There's the sovereign, the warrior, the lover and the magician. And I decided I was a warrior because life seemed to be full of challenges. And guess what?
I suddenly noticed life was even more full of challenges than it was before. I'm sure this had something to do with suddenly seeing myself as winning battles every day of my life. Well, eventually, my friend began to challenge this image that she had of herself. She started small, just simply noticing when the old story or belief would pop up. She would question it and then little by little, she would choose to see herself differently. I did that with the warrior thing as well.
And this is when things really begin to change. It's not an overnight difference, but small changes add up in meaningful and lasting ways. So what about you? Are there labels that you have picked up along the way? Labels that perhaps it's now time to lay down and dispense with? So what's your dominant image? And should you change it? I believe we all I believe that we all deserve wealth and prosperity, not just in money, but in health and in love and in purpose and joy.
If you schedule your days using a calendar, an e calendar, as most of us do these days, do you schedule in time for yourself, time to have fun? We deserve to thrive and to flourish, and yet, the biggest block isn't usually the lack of opportunity or resources. It's mindset, the image that we've accepted about what's possible or specifically, what's possible for us. Now suppose we take a moment to select a new dominant image.
Choose to begin replacing old limited images with ones that reflect your potential and where you want to go and who you want to be. You know, they say that the purpose of setting a goal is to become the person you need to be to reach that goal. So what could your new image be? Maybe a confident, capable entrepreneur or a loving, present parent, someone who's really tuned in to what the kids want to talk about, what makes them happy, what makes them communicate.
Or maybe you want to be that calm, resilient person who handles all those challenges with grace. Whatever it is, let it be something that lifts you up and draws you forward. And here's a simple practice that you might like to try in the coming week: Again, press pause if it's practical and make a note to remind yourself: each morning, take a minute to picture that new dominant image of yourself, Really see it and feel it. Believe that it's already true.
And then during the day, notice when that old image tries to reassert itself and gently thank it for its service because it was just trying to keep you safe, and then wave it off and return to your new image. And at the end of every day, reflect for a moment on how it felt to choose the new image even if it was just briefly.
And these small consistent shifts will genuinely lead to profound change over time if you keep it up, and that's why I suggest just making that little list for reference and of course referring to it every day. Maybe stick it on the bathroom mirror or your bedroom mirror if you don't want the rest of the household to see it. So in summary, your greatest journey is the one that takes place in your own mind.
That's where the biggest victories are won and where we can gently and compassionately take charge and reshape our future. So thank you for spending time with me today. And if any of this resonates with you, I'd love for you to share it with someone else who might also need this kind of encouragement.
