True personal growth ultimately will lead to fulfillment, and it's my intention with these podcasts to connect more deeply with you. Thank you for joining me, Anne Corbin and my guests and welcome to this episode. You've probably at least seen pictures of the giant Galapagos tortoise, but did you know that they outlive just about every other creature on the planet? And it's not luck or some freak genetic lottery.
The real secret lies in something really simple and yet profound, and it's the way they breathe. The gentle giant breathes only four times per minute. Just four. Each inhale and exhale is slow and deliberate. And there's more to breathing than just oxygen. It's also about the carbon dioxide regulation, because that calms the autonomic nervous system and it keeps the giant tortoise in a constant state of what's known as parasympathetic activation or rest and digest to you and me.
The steady breathing rhythm keeps the tortoises nervous system chilled out and its immune system is kept strong at the same time and its life force flows smoothly through all its energy channels. And those channels are what are known as nadis, and they're referred to all the time in ancient Sanskrit texts and probably other ones as well. So the tortoise's breathing pattern creates a thing called a divine pause. And this is a moment where time almost feels like it slows down.
And inside the pause, the tortoise's brain shifts into alpha brain waves. This is a relaxed but alert state where healing and clarity and regeneration can occur. It's a focused state, it's efficient, and in alpha, it's scanning for everything that would support survival and well-being. Human beings have the same built in machinery. It's just that most people are well, they're caught up in what's known as fight or flight, which is chaos basically.
And they don't even notice that this breathing tool is there and available, and of course they fail to use it. Breath is not just about staying alive, it's literally a bridge between the conscious mind and the subconscious. And therein lies this vast field of infinite possibility. So most people breathe through their mouths and their breathing is fast, faster than it needs to be, and it's shallow.
And because that type of breathing is what you do when you are in a state of fear and you're running away from a saber tooth tiger or a man wielding a knife, whatever, because you're in that state your subconscious thinks that there really is danger out there simply by judging from your breathing. So your breathing is shallow and frantic and this is the old survival mode of breathing and it keeps your nervous system trapped in a never ending fight or flight response.
Now within the subconscious mind is something called the reticular activating system or the RAS for short, and this dictates what we notice and what we don't. And the RAS naturally stays super focused on problems, threats and limitations because it's all about keeping us safe, so it's looking for danger the whole time. And this is why manifestation most of the time feels impossible, and it's because our biology imagines that we're in danger twenty four seven.
It thinks that you need a % of your energy and focus on keeping safe. But when you start breathing deeply and slowly and intentionally Oh, and incidentally, if you breathe through your nose, I know I've said this many times before, but when you breathe through your nose, the air automatically goes down to the lower lobes of your lungs.
And down there the blood supply is better and all the receptors of the parasympathetic nervous system are down there, so your breathing automatically will calm you down. And this is how rest and digest takes over from fight or flight. Suddenly, your body remembers what it feels like to be open, safe and receptive. And this isn't just relaxation. It's a direct communication line with your subconscious mind.
And while the conscious mind chatters away with logic and doubt and what if, the subconscious pays attention to sensations and visuals and feelings. And breath work becomes the sacred tool as it unlocks a doorway between the two parts of your mind. And it's rather like whispering to your subconscious, 'Hey, it's safe. You can let go. It's time to do some creating. And there's an added bonus because the law of vibration can kick in too.
And as your nervous system settles, then your energy channels, beautiful highways like the Ida and the Pingala and the Sushumna, they then start flowing freely. And this is how your own frequency shifts. You stop resonating with stress and you start aligning with clarity and abundance and love, whatever your intention holds. A vivid visualization becomes possible. Affirmations start landing and having some effect.
As for manifestation, it goes from being a concept that you read about in book to something that you actually feel as you start to get results. How the subconscious mind works with breath is where the real magic lies. Now up the minute, science has established that 95% of your thoughts, behaviors and decisions are run by the subconscious mind. We know it's huge.
There is the analogy of an ant being you trying to walk north while you are on the back of an elephant, that's your subconscious mind, which is walking south. In other words, you're getting nowhere. That's how the conscious mind is governed by the subconscious. But the conscious mind thinks that it's in control. But in percentage terms, it's smaller than the tip of an iceberg. And who's pulling the strings? It's the subconscious mind all the time and it doesn't use language.
It couldn't care less about words, rational arguments, logic or all those multiple clever affirmations that you use consciously to try and train it. The subconscious responds to sensations and feelings and pictures and frequency. And this is exactly why you can think of breath work as the ultimate cheat code. It's the language that the subconscious actually understands.
So imagine this every inhale and every exhale is like dialling into a specific frequency and the subconscious is finally picking up the phone. And when you regulate your breath, you will regulate your nervous system. And when the nervous system calms, then the reticular activating system, the RAS, will stop scanning for threats and begin looking for possibilities. Now something called vagal tone improves. The vagus nerve is the biggest nerve in your body.
And now, suddenly, as the tone improves, the body believes that it's safe. And in that safety, the subconscious will roll over like a dog who wants its tummy tickled. And now you can implant new intentions, clear vivid manifestations without the usual static interruptions of fear and doubt. So at your core, there are these three primary channels that I mentioned, the Ida, the Pingala, and the Sushumna, which is also known as the central channel, and that runs more or less down along the spine.
And I've heard the Aida described as the moon's whisper or the divine feminine energy, and it's cool, calming, intuitive flowing down the left side. And down the right side is the Pingala, which is compared with the sun's fire. It's logical, active, and energizing. It's on the right and it is the masculine energy. During deep breath work, especially when paired with visualization and emotionally charged affirmations, you bypass the conscious gatekeeper completely.
Those energy channels the nadis now start harmonizing and the nervous system flips from chaos to coherence and everything begins to connect. And suddenly the law of vibration isn't just a spiritual concept, it's biology meeting spirituality. The subconscious starts matching external reality to the internal vibration that you're holding. And then you introduce the divine pause. And that's where quantum shifts happen. Now the divine pause isn't just acute spiritual concept.
It's a real neurological and physiological reset button and it's hidden in plain sight. It's literally under your nose. When you hold your breath, something incredible happens. Your nervous system shifts gears. Those beta brain waves that are chaotic and overthinking and stressed out frequencies now start melting into alpha brain waves. And this is the zone of relaxed awareness where creativity, intuition, learning and subconscious access thrive.
And at the same time, the build up of carbon dioxide during the pause will not harm you at all, it actually enhances blood flow to the brain. And this fuels clarity and focus and deep receptivity. Most people don't realize it, but in that tiny moment of breath retention, that's how you get the conscious mind to step aside.
It's like giving your overthinking brain a gentle time out and the autonomic nervous system will recalibrate and vagal tone strengthens and the RAS is no longer flooded with stress signals and it starts scanning for evidence of your desires instead of your fears. You become hyper receptive, not just mentally, but energetically as well. And this is how breath shifts from being a survival tool into an instrument of manifestation and self reprogramming and quantum transformation.
The divine pause itself is a portal. It can be a magical gap where intention fuses with the law of vibration. Imagine visualizing your goals and feeling them already done while your nervous system hums incoherence and your subconscious mind hangs on every sensory detail that you feed it. And you pair this with the right affirmations and focused visualizations, and yes, you've just planted seeds in the most fertile soil of your mind.
And as you start layering this with ancient wisdom about the body's energy channels, like the ida and the pingala and the sashumna, the results become otherworldly. For thousands of years, ancient yogis have mapped out something that science is only just beginning to catch up with. Those nadis or energy channels that govern not just the physical body, but the entire energetic system.
And when breath work balances both the Ida and the Pingala, this activates the Sashumna and unlocks higher consciousness, clarity and powerful manifestation potential. When the Ida and Pingala are out of sync, then the nervous system stays in chaos and this is what happens to folks who are trapped in chronic stress. They swing between overthinking that's Pingala, masculine energy, and emotional overwhelm, that's the feminine energy from the Aida.
But the moment that we engage in deep rhythmic breathing, particularly paired with the divine pause, those energy channels start sinking. The nervous system slips into parasympathetic activation, and the vagal tone strengthens. The RAS starts filtering differently. It's noticing synchronicities, spotting opportunities, and you're aware of manifestations that were just invisible to you beforehand. It's almost like tuning an instrument and hearing it work properly.
And when the energy pathways align, your entire being becomes a vibrational match to your desires. The law of vibration stops being an abstract idea and it becomes a felt experience. I can't express strongly enough how important feeling is. And get this right and you literally feel your frequency shift and visualization becomes easier and sharper. Affirmations are no longer empty words. They start embedding into the subconscious mind with precision and they take effect.
Now, time is against me, I'm afraid. I was going to talk about two specific mantras. There's the so mantra and there is a process called the hundred and one breaths manifestation technique, but I think I'm gonna have to do a separate podcast in a few weeks to deal with those two.
