Hi, Anne Corbin, your Mind Body Spirit Mentor. I'm here with this week's episode of the mind body spirit connection. You are a complex being composed of 3 parts, mind, body, and spirit. Just get those 3 parts working together in harmony Anne upscale your life. I'm here to show you how. There's a widespread sense of meaningless in modern life caused largely by loneliness and perceptions of isolation. Many people describe feelings of anxiety that they can't really provide a reason for.
And during the last 3 to 4 centuries, apparently, because of the way of life changing so rapidly and radically, especially for ordinary people. And when I say ordinary people, I mean the employed classes. If you like, that is people who had to find ways of supporting themselves and their families. So these feelings of loneliness and meaninglessness, grew particularly in those classes, but of course they weren't identified as such.
Gradually society was becoming convinced that the world and the universe could be reduced to physical particles, or which in themselves were dead, but which interacted with each other in predictable and mechanistic ways. Anne scientists continued attempting to describe or define laws which would predict these behaviors.
And as the pace of development grew and knowledge increased, the favored kind of thinking was more generally described as rational or logical, and the modern or sorry Anne temporary thinkers would be scientists like Isaac Newton Anne, while talking there at the late 17th century. There was Robert Boyle as well, and Avogadro, Michael Faraday, Benjamin Franklin. I'm thinking of names from school.
And then coming into the 20th century, The would be Max Plank Anne Neil's Borer, Albert Einstein, of course, and Nicola Tesla about whom we were never taught at school. It's, thanks to Elon Musk, that Tesla's name has come into common parlance. It certainly wasn't when I was at school because was successfully airbrushed from history for about a 100 years. And likewise, many of his important inventions, including free power and electricity. There's more about that in my book.
The mind body spirit mentor. So as the laws of physics were uncovered and expanded, this led to industrialization. And the pace intensified leading to the industrial revolution, which is generally dated at 16 70 to 18 40. The first Anne, anyway. The so called age of enlightenment just incidentally occurred within that period, and the dates for that, if you're interested, would be 16 85 to 18 15.
And there were some great thinkers and philosophers involved in that, but I believe that it had much less impact on the broader population at least at the time. So the original or fir industrial revolution, brought with it inventions such as the steam engine and balloon, and different materials were coming into you such as iron and steel.
New fuels, like coal Anne petroleum, were used to drive these new inventions, steam was still in use, of course, but the results of all this mechanization were huge changes in society. It saw the continuance of this movement of masses of people into towns. Populations were growing, and it was the dawn of the factory system. A time of very great newfound wealth for the fortunate few. There was this growing middle class We had now factory owners Anne the growing merchant class.
These grew as trade expanded thanks to faster and better methods of transport, such as the train. Ordinary workers, however, were living in cramped and miserable conditions. Invariably, there was no proper ventilation in these buildings that were thrown up very quickly at minimum cost just to house The hundreds of workers needed to operate the factories, and there was most definitely no sanitation involved.
The jobs done by the poor offered little or no autonomy meaning that there was no job satisfaction. I think that, just hadn't come into anyone's idea in those days. Long hours left little time for leisure. The work was frequently dangerous because those original genes were not put together with safety in mind. And the work was not well paid because there was an oversupply of labor. Nutrition was poor.
There were probably issues with supply chains, there's another term that wouldn't have been known in those times, but there would be a little space within cities to grow your own food. And of course, expense comes into the equation because these poor in the factories were not well paid. Disease, of course, was rife partly due to the dreadful living conditions, and partly due to malnutrition. Not to mention exhaustion. Child labor was the norm.
Patents of gender inequality at work were established right then back in the beginning Anne it was based on the idea that women didn't have to support families for goodness' sake why would they be subjecting themselves to these awful working conditions, long hours, and so on and so forth, abandoning their children if it wasn't an economic necessity. So a major contributing reason why these times were so miserable for most of the population was the fact that events were happening so quickly.
There was little Anne planning people must have felt trapped, and there was no escape from this slavery. They were financial prisoners Anne they wouldn't have had enough money to move back to their previous lives, had that even been possible? Those early workers will have felt massively disconnected from because they would have grown up in villages out in the countryside with fresh air and leisure time They would have lived in communities.
They would have played games on the village Village Green Anne that sort of thing. Now they're only escaped was likely to have been alcohol. So the 2nd revolution, industrial revolution occurred late 19th century to about the mid 20th century. By then, ordinary workers enjoyed better incomes, better work conditions, and unions had been created to protect their rights and keep them safe. Or at least safer. Health Anne safety, so called, hadn't been invented back then.
Then the 3rd industrial revolution is broadly what I was talking about last week as foreseen by Alvin Toffler, in 1970, but he didn't know the half of it as the saying goes. The advances in technology, just in the past, say, 25 years would have had him revolving in his grave. And now the 4th industrial revolution is upon us with the financial divides in society greater than ever before.
In the past few years, most especially since lockdown killed off so many small businesses, the rich have got massively richer. But the poor are also much poorer. And financially, the middle classes are under attack. Even before lockdown, when Theresa May was prime minister, she appointed a minister of loneliness And in America, the surgeon general had identified what he described as an epidemic of loneliness.
These issues were in society, no question, before social distancing, mandatory mask wearing, and the locking up of healthy people for months on end. Lownly or disconnect people were already feeling isolated, and many had this vague notion of unexplained anxiety, No. Suddenly, the government is stoking up fear. There's this deadly virus which is spread by people showing no symptoms.
That was a lie just in case you hadn't picked up on it, and they knew they knew in the early months of lockdown, but the fact wasn't disclosed because people who were afraid of other healthy people were much easier to control. Now to this existing anxiety, you can add aggression and frustration. People feel that they have no control. There's nothing but doom and gloom on the television in this state people are very suggestible.
They're actually likely to follow instructions, even though the instructions might not be reasonable. I know families where long lasting bitter arguments exist over the vexed subject of whether or not to vaccinate, and also just going back a few months or years previous there are still bitter arguments in existence about people's views over Brexit. This is more divide and rule. And here's an interesting development.
As these isolated people join in and participate in a strategy, such as the wearing of masks, they actually start to feel connected again because human beings are social animal and we strange way wearing a mask gives people purpose and identity. But it isn't real. It's a false sense of belonging because members of this club are connected with each other, they are connected to a central idea.
I believe this is how Hitler and star in and other dictators managed to attract huge followings from amongst the masses. People found something to unite against rather than 4, and they went along with irrational behaviors for the common good or the greater good that brussian banded around so much these days, which I hate. The point is they're not thinking about their own good. They're not thinking rationally. People who've lost hope or lost their way are easier to convince.
And you show them up a particular path, and they'll follow it, and woe betide anyone who doesn't follow that path. This explains how neighbors can be induced to inform on people they once counted as friends Anne siblings will turn on siblings Parents turn against children. Children turn against parents. People under the spell are indeed in a kind of Anne, and there's a name for it It's called mass formation psychosis.
I've just heard a really interesting lecture by professor Matias Desmond, who is a professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Ghent. He explains how this mass formation psychosis is identical, not similar to it's identical to hypnosis. So a hypnotist will concentrate the mind of his subject on one small object, such as a pendulum, think of a watch on a chain. Attention is completely withdrawn from the environment. And everything around you as you watch the watch.
Once under hypnosis, then the rest of reality simply ceases to exist. Surgeons can perform open heart surgery on patients who've been successfully hypnotized because their awareness of their body Anne therefore of pain is simply outside their current reality. People under mass formation psychosis are totally insensitive to rational arguments. So long as firstly, They're in an appropriate state to be susceptible in the first place.
And secondly, the message of the hypnotist or the dictator or the government is regularly repeated They stay under hypnosis or psychosis, and nothing will snap them out of it. Hitler used the radio. He apparently was a mesmerizing speaker. Other orators have used rallies Anne this could apply to Donald Trump. He favors the rally system. Today, on television, you can see, or you are subject to the easy access direct into your home from whoever has the message.
They keep repeating Anne emotional statement. They back it up with figures Anne even better with graphs. Pictures of figures. Several times a day, and they'll keep you the audience eating out of the palms of their hand.
