Episode description

Friedrich Nietzsche was one of the most influential philosophers of all time. He is famous for criticising traditional morality and religion. But throughout his life, he suffered a lot of physical and psychological agony. First the pain was bodily, then it started tormenting him mentally as well. Slowly he drove himself to insanity. But what was the main cause behind this? Some people attribute to physical diseases, but more recently many scholars have been leaning towards the possibility of a self induced madness. Meaning, there is a chance that Nietzsche went insane on his will, he took this risk. In this podcast segment we will explore this idea more and understand why Nietzsche ended up the way he did.
