This is the idea that beliefs, interpersonal patterns, narratives, emotions, unresolved trauma, and/or pain from previous generations can be passed down to descendants, influencing their psychological, emotional, and even physical well-being. We discuss how this is possible from psychological, developmental, psychospiritual, and biological perspectives; how one might heal the burdens; and how one might benefit from the gifts.
