Live action , live action , guys . Dr Pinesett here , the pre-med pro-expert , and today we're talking about what it takes to become a successful student .

And if you're a student and you wanna become your full greatness , you're ready to become the A student , you're ready to be able to crush any class that comes in your way , then you need to watch this video , because there's one key ingredient that so many students overlook and they fail to see and look and they fail to see , and it's truly , truly the key ,

and without it , you will never become the great student . So I'm going to hit the intro , I'm going to get right into it , guys . Today is the day , guys , you're going to take your future into your own hands . You're going to dominate , you're going to be successful . No excuses , just dominate . All right , guys . Thank you so much for joining me today .

Like I said , I'm Dr Andre Pines and I'm here , as always , to help you think better , study better , pre-med better and reach your goals .

And for my pre-meds , that means getting into medical school , and one of the key ingredients to getting into medical school , one of the key ingredients to being a high-level student , is what Learning how to study and so today we're talking about the approach to becoming a great student and for many of you guys out there , if you can answer this question right now ,

how many of you are not the student you wish you were ? How many of you recognize you're not the student you need to be to get to your career goals ? And that's where so many of us find ourselves .

That's where I found myself after my freshman year was I was struggling , I was floundering , I knew I wasn't a great student and all I could think was work harder , work harder . That's what my parents said . So people said , hey , work hard . You're not working hard enough , you're not studying enough . And I'm like how I feel ?

Like I'm studying all gosh darn day , I'm not getting there , and so it can kind of feel like sometimes futile . It can feel like , no matter what I do , I can't become the great student .

And the key word there is that become part and this is where students really flub this up is that they think watching one video , listening to one hack , doing one thing is going to make them a great student . But as I always say and will continue to say straight , a's are not made in one way . They're made every day , in every single way .

And so if you were trying to become the A student . You have to truly embrace becoming that student , recognizing you can't just flip a switch and be the A student . You have to make drastic changes and as part of that change process it's not easy .

It takes practice and this is the key ingredient we talk about in medicine right , the practice of medicine , becoming a doctor and staying a doctor . It's always right . You open a practice when you're a physician . Why ? Because you're honing your craft . As a doctor , you're never a finished product and it's the same way as a student .

Every single day is an opportunity to practice , to develop skills , to develop muscle memory . That allows you to be a more habitual student , that allows you to be a more high-level student , so you can execute . And for far too many students we're like I want to be a great student and it's like I want to be it today .

And if it doesn't happen today , we're like I quit . I'm not an A student today , I quit . That is not the way you can view your prospects as a student , because it truly is . You're not going to flip the switch and become an A student in one day .

So if that's your expectation , you're setting yourself up from a letdown , and when we're hopeless or we fear that we may fail , we don't see a pathway to success , we quit , we procrastinate , we move away . Right , it's aversive to us .

We don't like that feeling , that sensation , and so it's so important that you guys have your head on straight and you recognize becoming a student takes a long time and I know there's this narrative of oh , this student is just smart , this student's photographic memory , the student just can't .

No one comes out the womb as this incredible student , even the prodigies you read about .

You'll read their stories and say , oh , their parents noticed early on that they had a proclivity , they had some sort of interest in or some sort of ability to do better than what a two-year-old should do , not what an adult would do , and they fed that passion , they fed that natural ability and made it a superhuman ability .

And that's what you have to do as a student is you have to work at it , you have to craft at it . I myself was an awful , terrible , no good reader . It was awful .

I can remember going back when I was younger and they'd have popcorn reading and the kids would think it was funny to popcorn read to me , to hear me stumble and fumble through words to see me struggle , and it made them laugh . But for me it was very painful and so , because of that experience , I always shied away from reading .

In every class I would look for , okay , I'm just going to go to lecture , oh , I'm just going to look at the study notes . It was everything I could do to avoid going to a textbook because of the trauma I suffered around reading reading .

But what I failed to recognize is is at a certain level you're going to have to be able to read , and for some of you guys , maybe it's not reading right .

Maybe it's your ability to remember things , maybe it's your ability to create flashcards , maybe it's your ability to sift through complex materials , maybe it's your ability to problem solve on exams , maybe it's your ability to do math . Whatever it is .

Whatever your weaknesses , whatever your shortcomings are , we tend to shy away because we feel like we can't become that greatness , and for me , I was like I'll never be a great reader . I can't become a great reader because every time I would try , I was going to try this reading and it would go terribly .

I wouldn't understand what I was doing , it would take way way longer , and so I would go do something else and we would lean into that . But what we're not doing , then , is giving ourselves the opportunity to practice , to grow , to develop that skill and make it a true strength . And it's just like weight training y'all .

If you want to go work out at the gym , if you're a billion pounds right now , are you going to all of a sudden be 90 pounds ? Are you going to all of a sudden be thin and fit ? Are you going to have all this muscle after the first day ? Absolutely not .

We know we have to work on it , actually a week , and they're like ah , I'm not buffed out , I'm not lean , I'm out of this place . This is hard . I got to eat clean , all these things . But it takes time to do that body transformation . It's the same time for a mind transformation . It takes time to become the great student you want to be .

So you have to be patient with yourself , you have to enjoy the journey of getting great , and for me , I can testify to this because , like I said , I was a bad student , I was a bad reader , I was bad all around . I was procrastinating , I did all the wrong things that you should not do . I was the worst example of what a student should be .

I couldn't change everything overnight , so what I did was I just started small , making small incremental improvements . Hey , listen , I'm just going to study every day for an hour . Doesn't take any skill to be consistent . I'm just going to start with consistency .

Then , on top of that , I'm going to spend some time every single day learning more about studying , learning more about learning , learning more about what it takes to be a successful student . And what was interesting was the more time I spent studying what studying should be , studying how learning works , studying how the brain works , how students are successful .

The more time I spent there , the less time I actually had to spend studying and the better results I got . And so it became addictive . I became focused on the growth element of it , and so , instead of spending , I would actually end up spending more time learning about studying and about success than I would spend actually on the studying .

And it just became this addictive thing where I became addictive to my growth potential . I became addicted to developing new skill sets . I became addicted to challenging myself to say listen , I can do this well , but what else can I do well in studying ?

And so I developed this whole toolbox of skills that made me like the Swiss army knife of a student , where any single class , any single topic , anything that came up , I had the right tool to get the job done .

And that's what I want for you guys , as students , is to recognize you're developing , you're growing and not to be so hard on yourself and just see it as this is all . I'm here in school to learn , to get better , to develop these skills .

And the earlier you embrace that mentality of growth and of your development A , the more fun you'll have in your journey , but B , the more successful you'll be because early on , you'll be developing skills that other people neglect because they don't see the skill development .

And so by the time you actually need those skills , you'll have them and you'll avoid the hurdles , you'll avoid the hiccups , you'll avoid the struggles that you see every time you transition to a higher level of education .

So embrace growth , embrace practice , embrace the fact that you're not going to flip the switch and be great today , but if , every single day , you put in a little bit of work focused on getting better , focused on growing , focused on learning , a little bit more about studying and learning , eventually you will get to your goal , guys , and you will become the A

student . I'm the living testament to that and my students are the testament to that , because they know when they come , get with me , when they get in my program , I never say , oh , tomorrow you're going to be an A student . I think tomorrow you're going to be a much better student .

But to become that A student is going to take some time and , most importantly , it's going to take some energy spent and some practice on your end to develop your study skills , to develop into the A student . That's what it's about , and that mentality is so powerful , guys .

It unlocks you and will get you to your greatness as a student , will get you to the A's that you so badly desire . I encourage you . If you are like man Dr Pines , are you right ? I need to grow . I'm ready to step up and become the A student the most surefire right .
