¶ Introducing Predestined: Podcast Overview
Hi, you're listening to Predestined, a deconstruction of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation. On this podcast, we're going to examine the worldview of this church community and the impact it has had on people. We will be doing this by sharing personal stories of those who have lived experience in this environment.
As former members of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation ourselves, my co-hosts, Taylor, and myself, Lina, are excited to have you with us as we uncover the complexities of this tight-knit community.
¶ Deconstructing Predestination and Its Impact
So why is the podcast named Predestined? One of the core beliefs of this community is predestination. Predestination is the belief that God chose his followers before the universe existed. In the NRC, it is taught as the idea that you should live in fear and trembling since you are most likely predestined to hell. You should still try to be saved though, but you can't do anything to change the outcome God chose for you. Confusing, right? Tell us about it.
Over years of heartache and growth and change, we've discovered that we too are predestined. Predestined to tell the truth about what happens when powerful systems silence the voices of those they are oppressing. Predestined to dare to question the beliefs of a place that claims to have all of the answers. Predestined to ask the question, if this community is the epitome of absolute truth, why are there so many victims?
This may be a tender subject for many. If you listen, please listen with care. While we don't expect our listeners to agree with everything being shared, we hope you can approach this podcast with an open mind. We all deserve respect and kindness. Thanks for coming on this deconstruction journey of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation with us. We're happy you're here.
