Hey everybody, welcome back to the Pop Culture Junkie Podcast. I'm Hayley, I am here with my fellow Junkies. I'm Shanua, and I'm Nicole. And this episode is a little bittersweet for me because it is my last episode on the Pop Culture Junkie Podcast. For now, I'm going to put parentheses for now, hyphen, asterisk, because once a Junkie, always a Junkie. But I have a new job that is very exciting. I'm completely changing careers. And it is going to require a lot more of my time.
And most likely relocating my physical self. And it's a big change, a lot going on for me and my family. And so, unfortunately, that means I won't be on the podcast weekend and week out. But I hope that doesn't mean that you guys will forget about me. Oh my God, of course not. It's been so incredible, Hayley. It just feels so natural having you here that it's weird to think about a time before you were on the podcast.
So, I don't know, it's been incredible. You're just such a joy and so kind and funny and smart and such a fucking nerd. Ah, shucks. I don't know. We're going to miss you a lot, but we're really, really excited for you. Yeah, I cannot even express how much I enjoy having you on the show.
Someone in the middle, I feel like between me and Shauna, where you know, half of the things Shauna talks about, you know, half the things I talk about, where's that I could just talk about long order with you. I could talk about a bunch of different stuff. And you would understand.
I'm very, very excited for you. I can't wait to hear everything. All the stories. Hopefully you can tell us maybe because what you're going to be doing is so, so cool. And I'm so happy for you because I know you've wanted this for a very long time. And you finally get to pursue it. And I can't wait to see the things that you do because I know you're going to do great things. Thank you guys. I appreciate it. It's honestly, I was like up in my feels earlier today.
I was like, oh man, this, I'm obviously I'm really excited, but like sucks because this is so fun. And thankfully, like, I really feel like we're friends. So I know it's not going to be like the last time we chat. And I better be getting texts about long order and Mandalorian and last of us season two and all the upcoming things because I'm going to need somebody to talk with about that stuff.
You will still be in the Junkie group chat. Yes. Absolutely. Absolutely. Always. Well, I figure since it's my last episode, I just would take it over. You know, we are following your lead this week, Hayley the Brave. Carte Blanche just decided to decide before we get into what I wanted to talk about. Let's do our normal. For my last thought. Let's do our normal.
Pop it and drop it reviews. What did you guys watch and watch it? Everybody check out or skip. Oh man. Okay, I feel like I watched so much since we last recorded. I'll speed through a couple of them. Definitely started a new season of Demon Slayer, which I'm excited about. It's an anime that my husband and I watch.
We finished the latest season of my hero academia, another anime. God, I mean, I'm such a fan of both of those and it's so frustrating because you have to wait so long in between seasons for a lot of these. Gosh, I finished only murders in the building season one. And I called it. Oh, I knew it was her. Okay, spoilers for anybody who hasn't finished only murders in the building season one.
It was like a couple episodes before and I said, I don't know. She seems a little iffy. She seems sketched to me. So I called it. And he didn't. He thought it was. He, oh my God, he thought it was tied eye guy again. And I was like, no, we're past that. We're past that. I thought it was her. Jan, right? That's her name. Yeah. I thought it was her a few episodes before the end. But then they threw in like another red hailing. So it.
Yeah, I couldn't this side. I was kind of going back and forth. But I know I kept in like she's too similar to her character in the office. We have to make her kind of different because she's just too likable. But then she started getting a little. I don't know. A little suspicious. Just wanting to be in the investigation. So bad and getting kind of like but her that they didn't. Well, you know what? No, the first time that it tingled my.
My true crime senses was when she left the note under Brazos. I don't know. She left the note under his door asking for a date. And I was like, didn't the murder also leave notes it kind of look like the same handwriting. And I was like, maybe I'm just going crazy. I wasn't. I'm good at this. And then I saw two movies that I'll talk about briefly. So John Wick Chapter Three. No, Four Chapter Four. There's so many of these movies.
John Wick Chapter Four came out and it was really good. I mean, it's exactly what she want from a John Wick movie. The action is incredible. The stunts are amazing. Like I can't you can tell has aged as we all do with the passage of time from the first one where he's maybe not doing. I don't know. For some of these things. I'm a stunts or. Yeah. For some of them. I'm like somebody could have taken him down. Come on man.
But you know, it kind of leaves it where it's like this seems like it could be the last one. But at the same time it makes so much money that it wouldn't shock me if it's not or they make spin-offs. So I'm definitely going to pop John Wick chapter four. If you are a John Wick fan, it's definitely worth the watch. And if you're not a John Wick fan, go back and check out our Keanu 101.
About first John Wick. And then you'll be coming. Even if you're not a John Wick fan, I mean, you'll go into this movie and it's definitely deep in the lore at this point. And you won't know why are they chasing who were these people? Why do we care? But it's still just, you know, fun action popcorn flick too. You want to turn your brain off a little bit. But I definitely suggest watching all the first three to know what the hell is going on.
And then another franchise that I've been getting into recently are the Creed movies. So I'm definitely, as we've mentioned before, not like an inspirational sports film fan like Miss Nicole. So if it has a 10 about the Creed movies, but Michael Beachwarden is so fine. So twist my arm. I guess I'll give it a watch. The Creed movies are really good. I've never seen the original Rocky movies, but I already know enough just from being a pop culture junkie of who Rocky Balboa is.
I knew how Apollo Creed dies and kind of the backstory there just from being a movie fan. But it's really good. All three of them. We watched them maybe within the past like two months. My husband and I. And Michael Beachwarden is amazing. Tessa Thompson is really good and it's too. It pulls at your heartstrings. The one thing I will say about this new one that was a little glaring to me is that it's the first one that Silvestre Stallone is not in.
And they never provide an explanation for why he's not there. So on the back in Silvestre Stallone had like a disagreement with the movie. It get the filmmakers and didn't really like where some stuff was going. So he's listed as I think a producer on the movie, but he said that he really didn't have anything to do with it. Like, oh, he loves the Rocky character. He loves the Creed character, but he's just stuck back.
The first two movies, he's like he's Adonis Creed's trainer. He's really heavily involved in his life. And they're like family and shit. And then in this one, he's just not there. Yeah, I'm like, is he dead? Like he had cancer a couple movies ago. But it made it seem like he went into remission. I don't know. It's definitely in the future a little bit from the second movie. Like Creeds and Retirement at this point, or he's about to go into retirement, which you do very young as a boxer.
The whole time they're like, you're so old man. And I'm like, fuck you. He's like 34. But yeah, they never mentioned why Rocky's not there. But beyond that, definitely gonna pop all the Creed movies, gonna pop creep three. Michael be joined with his shirt off. It's good stuff. Nice. Racking up those sequels like Infinity Stones. Oh my gosh, right? I'm just I'm getting through all these. My husband's like, we should watch this movie. We should watch these. He's got good taste.
I could test right now. What about Unicorn? One of the things I watched was the first couple episodes of full swing on Netflix. Is it about swingers or golf or swingers who play golf? It's about golf. It's about the PGA tour. The first couple episodes I've watched it just kind of goes along with the players and the tournament and follows them. Their home life, how they prepare for tournaments and stuff like that, which me being the sports fanatic like we just said, I am enjoying it.
It's cool to see the behind the scenes of the preparation, how hard these guys are on themselves every week for each tournament. And the second episode I think had, well, not I think I know it had the ways open in Scottsdale. I think they did a cover of that and all the golfers on there were saying how that tournament is their favorite tournament just because of the fans that are there and just the atmosphere. Because we're all wasted and crazy. The worst management. No wasted management.
They love the 16 pole. That's the crazy hole. The party on the swingers go run down and they're literally. It's just so fun. I was there this year and I was on the 16th hole on Sunday and it's just so funny because if a player misses the green, they get booed. They get very like happy Gilmore. It really is. God, I haven't been since college and me and this girl I went, ended up getting like kicked out. She got us kicked out.
I had to help security carry the limp body out and have not been back since because I don't like golf. I dated a professional golfer. I won't say his name. It's like a hot second in college. But I had to pretend like I thought golf was interesting for a couple of months. Oh wow. Honestly, I was there for it. That's really interesting. Go on. Also, I'll have the steak. So what platforms are on Nicole? It's on Netflix.
And then I finally seen screen 6. Oh, was it good? It's really good. Actually, I am a fan of the screen franchise. I think every movie that they produce has been good. I know sometimes when there's multiple movies of one franchise, it becomes old and overdone at a certain point. But it was really good. I think it's a really good twist that they do. Spoiler, I guess. I'm not going to say who. That does say who it is. I won't. I won't. I promise.
But instead of the previous years, like at the originals and then screen 5 and stuff like that, there's three killers. It's really good. The action is incredible. Janet Ortega is obviously incredible. She's such a good. She's a really good. She plays a really good part. I would definitely pop it. If you have a chance for like, screen movies, if you like the screen franchise, it's really good. I need to catch up on that franchise. Is that streaming somewhere?
No, I went to the movie theater and paid to watch it. There you go. Nice. You know, I've seen the first one. And for years, I thought I had seen the second one, but then recently my friend and I watched it. And I was like, I have never seen any of this in my life. The whole time I was like, "What? What? They're making a movie about the movie." And she's like, "You've never seen this, have you?" No, I haven't. So apparently I need to watch them all.
Yeah, I've only seen the first one. And like, I love it. So I don't know why I've never seen the other ones. Yeah, I give it a whirl. I mean, it was very cheesy, but I'd seen the scene where Sarah Michelle Geller dies, spoiler from a movie from 30 years ago. With Sarah Michelle Geller is in-screen too? For like a second, she's definitely not the main character. Wasn't she on the way you did last summer? Yes, she was. And I also recently watched that with the same friend.
Oh, nice. I'm in like a scary movie rewatch. Like I watched Contagion recently, which I had watched since the before times. Yeah, and it's still the whole time I'm like, "That happened to us. That happened in real life." Except for Gwyneth Paltrow getting her face peeled off. That didn't happen in the life. I'm gonna probably do. It's part of her beauty and health. Yeah, exactly. So it's like, probably the other got a new one.
Every morning, I do my energy shifting, peeling of my face, and then I sew my- I love it with my- I love it with my- I love it with my- I love it with my- I love it with my- I love it with my- I love it with my- Oh my god. Yeah, I need to get on that Nicole. What else? What else, Nicole? The other thing I've been watching is on peacock. It's called Killer Cases. And it's a show about just recaps of real crime that's happened. People dying. They go-
They show real footage from the crime scene. They show real footage from the court scenes of- Bodies to their- Are there dead bodies? I don't think they show bodies, but they show blood splatter and stuff. But you want to see bodies watch homicide for the holidays and peacock? Yeah, that's the other one you talked about. That one's really good. We were like, "Bodies!" Yeah! But Killer Cases is pretty good. I like the true crime stuff and I've seen the real footage
and stuff. I know it's kind of gross, but- No, I think it's sick. Yeah, it makes the show more interesting when you can actually see the stuff firsthand, I guess. But if you like true crime, I would pop it. I was kind of hesitant because there's so much true crime stuff out there nowadays. It's like, what do I watch? And what's going to be good? It's all repetitive. That was pretty good. Sorry, I'd pop that one. Nice. Yeah, that's a good little- Is there one thing I know?
It's that Nicole likes true crime and sports and Shana likes bodies. I like looking at dead bodies. I like bodies in every sense of the word. I like looking at dead bodies and then I like watching bodies like do it. I just like bodies. Oh, goodness. I love it. I'll watch it if people have sex or if they die. Rather wise I'm out. I'm out. Obviously. Or have sex till they die. That's going to be a new reality show. Who can survive? Wasn't it like so long to the ER? Oh, yeah, that is a show.
I think that's people like sticking things where they're not supposed to be stuck though. Benny slipping in the shower. You know what? Speaking of sex toys for like two seconds. I promise it's related to pop culture. I swear to God. Okay, so in Only Murders in the Building, my recent A-Binder is because of the bassoon cleaner. And I was wondering if anybody's watching this show and they played the bassoon, do you think they figured it out just immediately?
Because they were going through Tim Kono's like sex toys in maybe the second or third episode. And they pulled that out and they were like, what the hell is this? True. And I wonder if any bassoonist watching it was like, oh, Jan did it. You know there had to be. You know someone was like, oh yeah. Yeah, it's her. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh that is. It makes you wonder if like one of the writers was a bassoonist. Third thing to bring into the show. And it had to be absurd instrument.
Otherwise, if it was just like a cleaning tool that a lot of people would know, it would probably give it away a lot sooner. So I don't know. If any listeners played the bassoon and you figured out that Jan was the killer right away, please let us know. Yeah, it's interesting. All right, I checked out a couple things. I was sick last week as you guys know. And so I decided to let me backtrack for a second. So in our Samuel Jackson 101, we watched Pulp Fiction, right?
And that was the first time I had watched a Quentin Tarantino film. Oh wow. Start by me. Okay. And I'd seen a couple TV episodes he'd done, but I never watched one of his movies. And as you may remember, I did not love Pulp Fiction. There's not much am. And so I was like, I have to watch another Quentin Tarantino movie to decide if I didn't like Pulp Fiction, or if I don't like Quentin Tarantino.
So on one of my sick days, I watched Reservoir Dogs because it's the shortest I think of all of his movies. Yeah. And I will say I definitively realized that I don't like Quentin Tarantino. Yeah. Okay. Okay. I'll say I like Reservoir Dogs more than Pulp Fiction. I think that's partially because it was about half as long. And it also has like one plot. Like the, you know, heist gone wrong is the plot of the whole movie. Yeah. And I will say that I really like Tim Roth.
I thought he did a really good job in that movie. But I do not love Tarantino's insistence on creating unlikeable characters that I am forced to sit and watch for an extended period of time. Like just the racism and the misogyny and the like beating me over the head with it. Like I was just like, I don't care about any of these people. Like I want them all to die. So that's really not for me. And then also, you know, he just, it's talking. It's laying on the floor bleeding out.
It's a lot of talking for an hour. And I am going to pitch a Quentin Tarantino movie to you. Okay. You should watch Django Unchained. Django Unchained. Okay. Yes. So it's Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson is in it because it's a Quentin Tarantino movie. And Carrie Washington. And Django is a freed slave. And him and Christoph Waltz set out to try to save Django's wife, who is being held in slavery by Leonardo Caprio's character.
And if you want to root for somebody, you're going to root for Django. Okay. I mean, and Christoph Waltz. He's like the opposite of what he is in Inglourious Basterds, which is a Nazi. And in this part, it's like Inglourious Basterds. Yeah. So I'm somewhat familiar. That's his scouts. But yeah, Django Unchained, I mean, it is hyper violent because it is a Quentin Tarantino movie. But you actually get to root for the main character because you root for him and his wife reuniting.
And, you know, they're in so in love and Christoph Waltz is such a great guy helping them out. And you want Leonardo Caprio to just fucking eat it. But I know. I know. You're going to have to watch that one and then report back to me. Okay. All right. I'll have to give it a chance. I was going to try Kill Bill. Isn't that Quentin Tarantino? Ooh, yeah. Kill Bill is good too. I like the Kill Bill movies. I mean, again, hyper violent, hyper sexual, like bad words galore.
Yeah. But it's a kick ass woman. See, yeah, if the plot's good and the action's good, like I'm down for all of that. I just so far. I'm going to root for her. Yeah. I can see that. Yeah. So, Jingle and Change and Kill Bill, I will. Okay. But I have to report back once you have a more-- You know, once you have a few spare hours, anyway. Yeah, yeah, yeah. The other things that I checked out this week, there's a series on Netflix called Unstable that is Rob Lowe and his son, John Owen Lowe.
And it was actually created by his son. And it's about Rob Lowe plays kind of like an Elon Musk. If Elon Musk was a good guy, kind of role where he's, you know, using his big brain to try to make the world more green. But he has just lost his wife. And she was kind of the stable one in the marriage. She's the one that kept him grounded. And so now he's kind of losing his mind. And his son and him have always fought it. And his son comes to work for him to try to kind of help him.
And I think I'm about six episodes in to the season. And I will say if you like Rob Lowe, then you'll probably like the series. If you don't like Rob Lowe, then you won't, because he's front and center. But I like it. I will pop it. I will say I like it probably the most out of like new series that I have watched. And I love that I kind of binge it. And it's kind of nice background.
Like I got to work from home or I got to do the dishes or I got to do, I'm eating dinner and I kind of just want something on. It's not like must see TV. But I do think it's entertaining enough that it's worth checking out. I think Rob Lowe seems like, I don't know, I think I've seen him and I've liked him in the past. I mean, I love him in parks and rec. Me too. And he's, yeah, I mean, he's kind of a similar Chris Trigger-esque in a lot of ways.
So. And then the thing that I got to pop all the way is the Super Mario Brothers movie. Oh, good. It was so good. It was really good. Like, unironically, you know, as an adult, like obviously I went with my kids and especially my son, because he's obsessed with all things Mario. But even if I didn't have kids, it would have been enjoyable to watch. And my husband actually realized after it ended that it was written and directed by Aaron Horvath, who is the creator and writer of Teen Titans Go.
Which makes a lot of sense because that is like my favorite animated anything that my, it's like a toss up between that and Bluey, but really like Teen Titans Go has moments where my kids are not paying attention and I'm sitting down and I'm watching it. So it's got humor for adults for sure. It's a perfect blend of nostalgia. They throw in like stuff that you forget about like the Donkey Kong rap and all this kind of stuff. And the cast, the cast is really great. Chris Pratt.
He does a good job. Yeah. I mean, they opted to go this like, you know, Brooklyn route. So he's not doing kind of this Italian accent. But Charles Martinette is that his name? The guy who played the original Mario voice? I want to say it's Charles Martinette. He is, he plays the voice of Mario's dad in the movie. So he's there and it's just, it's so good. They established like a whole full plot out of a game that really doesn't have a plot. And it was really cute. Like I would go see it again.
It was that cute. I was like, we go again? I'm like, yeah. Like, yes, I'm invested. I'm so excited to see it. I'm so glad that it's good. Yeah. It was really good. And critics are stupid. They gave it like a 48% or something on Rotten Tomatoes. And I was like, what do you want? It's a cartoon. Yeah. It's a Mario movie. Like, I'm not a guy. Not everything has to be like, Coco, you know, and have like, you know, sometimes you make you weep at the end. Sometimes I don't want to cry.
Sometimes you can just giggle through mushroom kingdom. Yeah. That's all I want to do. It was good. Definitely. Yeah. Pop the Mario movie. All right. So, with it being my swan song, I decided if I could do anything on this episode, it would be to force you guys to watch my favorite thing in the whole world, which is the X-Files. So we binged all 11 seasons at X-Files in February. In both movies. In one week.
No, I had you guys watch the pilot very first episode in hopes that per chance it might plant a seed that you may later watch. I'll just, I'll get you a list later of episodes to watch. You don't need to watch all 11 seasons. But I wanted to know, I have so many questions for you guys as first time viewers. So, allow me to like step and put on my interviewer hat. What were your initial impressions of the X-Files?
Now, for anyone who may be unfamiliar, okay, the X-Files stars David DeCovny and Jillian Anderson. It premiered on Fox September 10th, 1993. So I was six years old when this came out 30 years ago now. Nicole was just a twinkle in someone's eye. Not even thought it was just a bad one. Not even a fetus. A toddler. So, we were all young or non-existent when it premiered. But I do have early memories of being, I don't think I watched it when I was six, but I do think I was seven or eight years old.
And I have these memories of sitting on the couch with my brother and kind of watching it like this. But very early on in my life, it became this like formative experience for me so much so I named my son after the show. And it's actually the show is actually the reason my husband and I met. He sent me a message on my space because I had the X-Files as my favorite show and it was his favorite show too. So he sent me a message. So we kind of owe I owe the X-Files like my life really.
So no pressure on you if you hated it, you can absolutely say so. No, we can't. But I want to know, I literally will not judge you. But I want to know, I just want to know what were your initial impressions, initial thoughts watching the X-Files for the first time? I truly deeply, I'm not just saying this because I love you, I really enjoyed it. That was the first ever episode of the X-Files that I've seen. My mom had some CD growing up, I want to say it was called like pure moods or something.
And for some reason the X-Files theme song was on it. And so I always thought this is the theme song kind of slapped but that's like all I knew about it. And I really enjoyed it. I mean from the first time that David DeCovny shows up on screen, I texted you guys in the group chat like, oh, I get it. I've always had he was a good looking guy but I get it.
Julian Anderson, I mean in the beginning she seems a little cookie cutter but I think she's supposed to because she's kind of the straight lace like, oh, I'm doing this by the books and I don't believe in this mumbo jumbo but then I'm sure as the show goes on she's gonna loosen up. But I really enjoyed it. I think I might give it a try. The only thing holding me back is that it's freaking 11 seasons long. That's one of the reasons I didn't get ever get into super natural.
It's just because I feel like I missed the train. And now like no one has time for that. I'm not telling you to sit down and watch super natural, lost or I don't know or the X-Files like. Yeah, it is. But I did really like it. Nice. I really enjoyed it too. It's right up my alley with super natural and crime. I love ghost adventures. I know that's not what we're talking about but. Dude, I love ghost adventures. I love ghost adventures. I love true crime. We know that. So the two put together.
I honestly was so oblivious to what the title the X-Files met. I never put it together. That was like extra to much real. But yeah, I didn't put two and two together and also because I probably put it off to you because one didn't really know about it until you Haley introduced us to it and two probably because of how old it is. But watching it, I don't think I would have thought it was made in 93 or put out in 93 because I don't, it doesn't look that old to me.
Like the scenes look like it could be over 2000s even. Definitely not modern day type shooting but the acting, the way they put it together is really good. I really, really enjoyed it and I agree. I think I'm going to continue to watch it to be honest with you. At least get through season one and see what happens. But I think I think you might have just introduced me to a new show in the week.
Yay. I will say out of, you know, a lot of shows that I have watched of which there are many, I feel like the X-Files has a really strong pilot. Like right out the gate. It really did. I was surprised. Yeah. If you're introduced to the dynamic, you're hooked into the story, like the mystery of it all. It's very tight, like the format of the episode is really tight. I wish I could say that that holds up for 11 seasons. It definitely does not.
But, you know, like Shawnee you mentioned supernatural. The X-Files really is the blueprint for all these other shows. If you take any other show where you partner up a guy like Castle, Bones, Lucifer, yeah, Lucifer, like you take any fringe, fringe is literally like X-Files rip off, side story. But yeah, you take any of that stuff and it's really, it's based on the X-Files so much so that supernatural has an X-Files themed episode. Bones has an X-Files themed episode.
Like they pay homage to the story. So it is iconic in that way, I think, where like, you know, even just seeing one episode, it is worth it. And I'm not joking when I say I could tell you what episodes to watch. But also the movie. If I would say if there's like one other thing that you ever watched, the X-Files related, a movie that came out in 1997 called Fight the Future. And in 7 or 98. And it takes place between, I think, season 6 and season 7. And all you can do is. There's two movies.
There's two movies, yeah. So one takes place mid show, one takes place after the series ended after season 9. Got it. Okay. And if you ask me as a diehard, that second movie, to me, is kind of where the series ends. The revival seasons, seasons 10 and 11 were a huge disappointment. Like they go back and they rewrite a lot of the plot. Yeah. It's just really not, I don't think it does any favors to the original story. I hate that.
Yeah. So I will watch some of those revival episodes, but I watched them almost like their fanfiction, like this like side story that has no real reason. This is a canon, it's fun. Yeah, it's not canon. But yeah, it's season, season 6 of the X-Files is my all time favorite season. It has the most like bangers one after the other. So for anybody, you guys included, who might watch it, there's basically two different types of episodes.
There's one that are called mythology episodes and those are the ones that deal with what you guys were introduced to, which is anything heavy to do with aliens. And I do like, the mythology gets real slippery later on in the series and we're like, what that F is going on. But I do like that it's not just aliens want to kidnap you to probe you for no reason. There is a bigger goal or end game that's going on there.
So those are all the mythology stories and those ones you kind of have to like watch in order because otherwise you're confused. But then there's episodes called Monster of the Week episodes, which are just one off. But it has to. Yeah, they're just one off like, you know, you don't have to know anything about the show really to tune in and enjoy them. And those are the ones that I tend to recommend to people like, hey, just watch this one episode or watch a few of these.
And they're really, really funny and some are really scary, not to be like a Cabernet X-Files trivia. But there is this episode called Home that for I think even still it is banned on network TV. So it aired thinking that yesterday, there is an episode of X-Files that's supposed to be so fucking scary that like, it's like banned or something. Yeah. So it aired originally with a disclaimer. And then after it aired that first time, they took it off it. You couldn't watch it in reruns.
You could only watch it on like DVDs. And oddly enough, I think it's the first episode I remember watching like in my youth. That's it. It is the first one that stands out in my head is like, I remember that show. And a lot of times with people with the X-Files, like people who haven't seen it, if you've ever seen the X-Files, they'll be like, no, but I saw this one episode and it was so weft up and it's always home, always.
So I don't want to tell you too much about it because I don't want to give anything away. But if you like, don't really like messed up stories that you're never going to get out of your head. The only thing that would bother me about this show is if I watch it and for 11 seasons, it's like, no, I still don't think aliens exist. I'm holding what in my hands and she's like, no, I don't. You know, I hope that at some point, she's like, yes, I believe.
Because if it goes on for too long, I'm going to be like, bitch, come on. I don't think you can see. I don't think you can see my notes. I'm trying to see if I could get this. But this gribly line right here says new creative way is to not see the truth. Oh my god. That is an unfortunate plot in the X-Files is they find new and creative ways like, okay, slight spoilers.
I got to give you slight spoilers because it's just you get in the movie, fight the future that you are going to go watch because it's amazing. The end of the movie, Scollie's on a, like an f-ing, like a ship. She's on a UFO, okay? She's on it. But she's incapacitated. She's passed out. So Mulder like rescues her. She opens her eyes for all of like two seconds to see the UFO. But then passes out and has no memory of it. No. No. I think it gives episode one. I was like aliens. It's aliens.
Like, come on, girl. Yeah. No, not a ship. No, not a ship. No. There has to be a scientific explanation for this for like eight seasons. But it does start to, okay. Yeah. I mean, that reminds me of Lucifer too where he keeps being like, no, I'm literally the devil. And she's like, no, no, you're not. He's like, no, I really am. Oh, you. And then literally, like, you know, you don't have to buy yourself. Yeah. I don't think you are. He's like, no, I'm just, it's true though.
And then finally, you know, she gets to the point where she's like, oh, you're the fucking devil. And he's like, yeah, yeah. So it's, it's, it's very much like, okay, what was your favorite part of the episode of the pilot? Because I have a very clear favorite part, but I'm curious to know what yours is. My favorite part is when she's looking in the mirror and she finds the little spots on her back and freaks out and like runs to his room.
And it makes sense for her to be in her underwear in that moment because I, I hate that where it's just like, oh, the chick's in her underwear for some of your chewed as dumb reason. But she had to show him like this stuff. I mean, I guess she could have just left it her shirt anyway. Yeah. And then you see like, he's a little distracted by her like body for like a split second. And then he focuses and then starts to laugh at her. And it's like, and it's like, candle lit.
Yeah. Yeah. I was like, are they going to kiss in the, there's so many points this episode. I was like, are they going to kiss in the first episode? Like that would be ridiculous because I did kind of read ahead. And I think they don't kiss for like many seasons and some of them are under different situations where it's like, that this year's their first real kiss. Yeah. I suppose so. Oh, dude. Anytime anyone's like, it's a slow burn. Like, I can't wait for my ship to get together.
I'm like, shut up. Because unless it's Olivia Benson and Elliot Stable, no ship had a longer run than motor and skull. Like for real. Six seasons for the kiss. Yeah. Fuck man. And they don't even get together after that. It's a New Year's kiss. I watch that on YouTube. My husband walked in and I'm like on YouTube watching like, scull, I gotta watch it like a skull, yeah, like skullly and moldy like kiss compilations. That's a good use of your time.
I watch so many like, buffy and spike kiss compilations that it's just like, God bless YouTube. I don't know. I know. I'm like, cool. It's when they go to the cemetery and they're pulling out the coffin casket from the ground. Oh, no, I don't. And the autopsy guy comes and he's like, what are you doing? Blah, blah, blah. And the daughter just goes out the car. She said, we have to go home. Dad, we have to go home. I was like, I'm like, girl, why are you like so pressed?
Like, why are you screaming? Why are you screaming? Just to go home. Just to make sure you stand there. Just to make sure you stand there. Yeah, so that part right there is my favorite part. Just be comfortable. I thought you were going to say when they dropped the coffin. I don't know. It was her getting out of the car being so dramatic. I'm like, she deserves an obstacle for that. Oh my gosh. That's a love it. That was her big break. She's like, I got a big accident. That was pretty good.
I guess it makes sense later because she's going through shit, but yeah. Yeah. It's so fun. That's awesome. We got to go. He's like, I'm literally at work. Why aren't you? Get back in the car. Yeah. Oh my gosh. That's awesome. My favorite part is when they are in the rain and molder, I think it's when he first makes the connection to Billy Miles and he starts explaining that the woods is calling them and that there's some light and all this.
But the reason it's my favorite part is because Scully finds herself joining in on the theory and the mystical nature of it all. And then they both are laughing at how ridiculous they sound. But I think, and I don't care what Chris Carter thinks, he's a creator of the show. I don't care anything. I'm the real. I think. I think that moment is when molder and Scully first fall for each other because they think they have the tingles and their pants for each other.
Yeah. Okay. I was going to say hard, but what about you? Yeah. [laughter] Yeah. It's hard whenever. The difference between me and Haley summed up literally right there. But the tingles and her tingles at the same time. Fair, fair. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. But I just think he saw in her someone who was willing to take him seriously even if it's just for a second and go down that path with him and nobody ever took him seriously.
And she saw in him someone who was open to this world of possibility that her whole life had been so closed off because she so, you know, I only believe in science. And so he represents this adventure. And I text you guys this, but it's nostalgic for me to watch it, but also what's the right word? Kind of heart-wrenching because that scene in the motel where he's telling her about his sister's abduction. Oh, yeah. And she's on the bed and he's on the floor.
That scene is played again in the finale. And they like flip-bat. Now, well, she's on the bed. He's on the floor, but this time they're talking about he's basically saying like what was this all for? And she's saying all those years ago, what I saw in you, it made me follow you and I would do it all over again. And then he climbs in the bed and then they snuggle. Oh, snuggle. But it's so nice because it like calls for a circle because like here they are. And then here they end up in it so sweet.
And it's just, I mean, I could go on and on, but like it is to me with all of its flaws, it's still like the greatest TV story ever told. Well, it's my favorite. Well, I think you found two new fans. Are you created two new fans here? Awesome. Well, that's, that was my plan was to just rope you guys into a thing that I like and then that's going to force you to continue to talk to me because you'll text me questions and be like, wait a second, what is going on? That was actually really wise.
I like that. I like that. It's what I do. I manipulate my friends, meant to be my friends. They're going to stay my friend because I'm going to answer your questions about the thing. Yeah. All right. I got a day ever. Wait, wait, wait, I have a question. Okay, go. Do they ever do it? Not on camera. What? I mean, I guess is in the heavily implied. Here's why it's significant.
Season seven, episode 17, it's called All Things and the reason I'm telling you is because a lot of fans on our initial viewing, we like, it's like a blink and you miss it kind of thing. But that episode was written and directed by Jillian Anderson. Yeah. It is the episode where they hook up. And then again in the revival, revival series again. But she's seven seasons. I mean, that's like Lucifer. Yeah. It's a slow burn, too, for real. At least Lucifer gave you like a proper like sexy meal.
Yeah, they did. That was good. I'm going to go watch that after this. Shit. It's foul. You just get like a camera kind of pans and you're like, wait, did I just wait? Are they? Are they? Wait, wait, it's like a... Pause, pause, oh goodness. I freaking love you guys. Thank you for letting me do this with you. It's been a lot of fun and I'm going to miss it.
