Episode description

We're excited to release our second episode of Poor Man's Podcast Spaced Out.  On Spaced Out, Chris Hopper sits down with science communicator James Sanders to discuss a variety of topics relating to space and astronomy.  James specializes in cosmology and astrophysics.  The goal of the show is to learn about space in a way that is easy to understand even if you don't know anything about the subject.  This show is for anyone, regardless of prior knowledge.

In Episode 2, Chris and James discuss exoplanets and possible life on other planets.. Some of the topics they talk about are:

  • What is an exoplanet?
  • How are exoplanets discovered?
  • What is the definition of a planet vs a moon?
  • Why is Pluto no longer a planet?
  • What is needed for a planet to possibly sustain life?
  • Planets with unique surfaces (planets with ice volcanoes, planets with glass raining sideways, a diamond planet, and more)
  • Types of stars that planets orbit
  • Naming exoplanets
  • Finding elements on other planets
  • Tardigrades
  • The ever expanding universe
  • Colliding galaxies
  • Check out a show at the Peirce Planetarium in Clarion
