Voters have handed Anthony Albanese and Labor a ringing endorsement. But the Coalition has suffered what Fran Kelly has labelled a "shellacking" -  with Peter Dutton even booted from his own seat of Dickson. 

So, with their numbers decimated, who will put their hand up for Liberal leader? And brought to the brink, could John Howard's "broad-church" be forced to split?
