Episode description

In the 1930s, American hydroelectric power rose thanks in part to the construction of numerous dams along the Pacific northwest. These dams, and the energy they’ve produced, have shaped American communities in the decades since, even win World War 2. But keeping the dams operating has come at a huge cost for multiple types of salmon, many of which are now facing extinction. Today, POLITICO’s Annie Snider explains one Republican congressman’s plan to save the salmon and help the communities that depend on these dams.
