Season 2: Episode 4 - Mo’ Money, Mo’ Problems!

So we start out with um according to us anyway. Yeah. More money, more problems, or no money, more problems. Whatever you want. It could be either one of those. Yeah. So we see that um Demelz on Ross are walking up to that man, the the jailer who's leading all those people that have been arrested for obviously is um paying importing goods without paying the duty is what they referred to it as and so

And he kind of questions the officer, which Demels is like Ah stop Stop looking for trouble. You just got out of trouble. But he doesn't like those. them and he's just like oh they need to steal things for liquor or something? like that. He likes to challenge authority. Yeah. So Ross is very impulsive in his dealings with authority figures. And he's gonna say Say what he means. And he's a gentleman. Yeah.

At this point we know that De Mells is Prego, very Prego. All of a sudden it's like oh she's got a tummy. Yeah. And I was thinking about those corsets. Did they have a specific corset where the belly could pop out? It must because it looks like she has a corset on the chest. Right. And then all of a sudden it's like this Huge bump. Yeah. They ha we we should like Google.

I should. We should it would be interesting course just like this identification that your stomach goes. Probably. Maybe you can use it if you were like having a really bloated day or something. So true. I mean if you had to suck that in.

I know. Those tight things. I'm so glad we don't have to wear those. Because it was it was meant the corset was meant to make your waist narrow and to push your boobs up. Yeah. Just from all these like B V C stuff that you see and then I just watched little women I think they put one of the girls. Like they were trying to dress her up. Yeah. And I was like, Oh, okay. I see. That's why they look like that. That's why they look all like that. And they're drawing attention from the young men.

So back to our Paul Dark. Yeah, yeah. Back to this one. Uh Yeah, so she's pregnant. Mhm. And'cause yeah, that last episode she told him. So now she's obvious it's this has to be what, like probably eight months later or something? Possibly. Because by the end of the episode we've got a baby. So she must have been Giving labor.

I don't know what that means. Sure. Sure. Um and it's I think it's good. I feel bad for her, you know,'cause she was more the not that he didn't want family, I think the pressure uh from a man to feed it. Well and how it was hard losing one. That can be scary. And then oh go ahead. Oh I don't know. So yeah, I'm trying to think

The next thing I just remember George is taking some boxing lessons still. Still still honing in his skills. He's a little nervous about Ross. He just can't get it, right? He just feels like it's It's hard to take him seriously though in that. Like when you're watching him and like his tight

Height. Knee high tights and he's got like put em up, put em up. His frilly shirt. Yes, frilly shirt. His uh nacho Libra shirt. His little fluffy sleeves. I don't know, it's so hard to like it does not look intimidating at all. And we will see how well his boxing lessons pay off later on in the show. Mm-hmm. And then we jump to Ross being at the mine and worried about his workers having bruises. So that comes in Mm-hmm.

And then there's Caroline. Yes. She seems to be fretting about Dwight. The months have gone by and he has not paid her a visit. I know. He's not checked up on her throat. And she's complaining to Uncle. Uhhuh. Which you know that means she likes him'cause it's like, Would you tell your uncle? Probably not. I know. She's funny. Maybe he has other important things to be attending. What can be more than a little bit more?

the knee. Doctor Dro. I know, right? That's all I could think of was doc da reading the news. I got a back case loving you. So woo. Yeah, so she's got it for the dog. She does. He pulled that fishbone out of her throat and that's all it took. Yes, so she wants her follow up. Yeah. Follow up on me. Yeah. So it is pretty much. Yep.

So yeah, we've got uh so he does go down he checks on those diseases'cause he does have other things that are more impressive issues. Like these people who have bruises all over and are sick and he figures out it Kir scurby? Yes, like on um Oregon Trail. Yeah. Yeah. When you dive screen, you can see that. Yeah. So it's it was one of those that he felt terrible. He was really beating up on himself because he wasn't getting the diagnosis and finally

Ross and him are having a subject. He's like, Maybe I should change profession He's like, Oh, you should enlist in the Navy or something and then they joke about the rations of food and that's how the diagnosis came about. Yeah, so that was pretty And then we have Demelza running into a

With her basket of fish. Yeah,'cause she had gone fishing and they run into each other in the woods. Mm-hmm. There's kind of a little bit of attitude going on between'cause last time she saw Elizabeth she was being all flirty with Ross. Mm-hmm. Which was not cool. So it's like they were kind of on friendly terms and then that happened and now you Damals is like, no. I'm not going to be friends. No, she knows.

She can see things, she's not a dummy. Mm-mm. And then I like how Elizabeth is like, Should you be doing that? And then what does Smilta say? She's like, Who's to tell him who's to tell Ross what I'm doing? you know? Kind of like Mind your own business. Yeah, so Elizabeth has Aunt Agatha urging her to get friendly with George because she's basically like, Well, Francis doesn't like'em and now what if he calls in our loans? You need to uh

and be make friends with them, make good Which is an awkward spot to put her in a way. Yeah, basically. Because you're just like, you take care of it. Let's use your pretty face to m smooth and mend the situation. Mm-hmm. But they did very often. Probably. Yeah. If that's all you got. Poor women. Yeah. They had nothing else to do but smile and have conversation and Smile some more. So smile some more.

And then we have the scene where uh Ross comes home and he hears J Prudy and Jinny talking about um the people that got caught in that trading thing and how there's famine in the area. And he walks into the kitchen and he sees the fish. And he's like, Where did this come from? And Damel's like, Oh I just whistled for it or

Yeah. He's like, Where did they come from? Yeah, I just was it? He says oh No, I whistled. They came dancing from the waves. Where do you think it came from? Yeah. And I do love that Ginny and um Prudy were like, We're out. Peace out. Yeah, peace out, we're out. They knew an argument was about to happen. She's all irritated that she's out fishing while she's pregnant.

Uh by yourself. Which is understandable. Right. But D Melza's pretty tough cookie. And she's probably like, Well, you know what, we need food and you're busy doing other stuff, so we're just gonna sit around and wait for you to bring some food for us. That's what Ross loves is breaking the law. Well, and I like that she's not just gonna sit around and wait. She's like gonna take action and do something about it. She's tough. Yeah.

And that's why we're like I think as the seasons come keep going or as the episodes keep going you're just like you really I think we all get that general sense of like loyalty to Demelza somewhat'cause it's like she seems to be always doing the right thing. Well she goes through a lot of crap. She does. And she still just keeps on. She has her moments, two of imperfections. Not like she's the best in moral character too.

And then we see Verity and her husband, which is cute,'cause she looks really happy and they look happy, so we're happy that that turned out good. Yes. So he's obviously treating her good. His brother didn't have anything to worry about or her brother. But she's still sad that Francis will not. talk to her husband or her anymore for that matter. It's like there was hope and then as soon as she said, You know, can you be good with my husband? And he's like, No. So sorry.

And it's sad'cause she's a very family oriented, you know, person and you can tell that like he has. Do you think the price was too high that we paid for getting married? Well and even I mean, their family valued her too. Aunt Agatha was like, if Verity were here she'd know what to do. So she was kind of always But you know, there's an easy solution for that. Just forget and forget. Come on, people. Let her be. She's happy.

You would think that they think, Oh, we must have judged'em wrong. Right. Right? Like And we see the next scene is that mind meeting and then there's Ross with the the report and then we see that tankered lawyer guy coming in taking place. And at least I know. And at that point you're like, Really? Like George got in here?

And he's it seems like things are not gonna go well once you see that guy there. Nope. So we've had Doctor Ennis summoned by Caroline to check on her throat. So he does finally show up. And uh she's kind of a brat. Mm-hmm I really didn't like her. Yeah. She's trying to Do you think she's just teasing him? I think that's her way of flirting, but I think it was like'cause later on we

Discover how she really feels about, you know, the opposite sex. Yeah. And sh she is awkward in her own way, but I mean, I think she does know. And she was trying to push buttons to see how he would react and respond. Get his attention. Yeah. And so she She she she's funny because she's smiling the whole time. I know, that's what makes her such a brat. Oh, you insist on saving these people but then there's more mouths to feed. They only multiply. Yeah. But dad keeps the number in check.

That's what he said. And he's just looking at her like What's wrong? Are you kidding me? Yeah. And he has that look of like Like kind of disgust. Yeah. And yet she still has that smile on her face and keeps going. It's like what is wrong with you? I'm uncomfortable for her. I'm like, uh you better stop psycho. She is

entertain her thoughts really. Mhm. But she looked pleased with herself. She didn't look upset like he was leaving. It's like she said what she wanted to say. She did. Whatever motive But that's how she treat remember how she treated Unwen too? Yeah. Like she would push them away so just to see who could

Who could manage the challenge of her personality? But yet she keeps having to go back to him because it's not like he's trying to contact her after that. She keeps trying, she keeps sending him letters. That's true. Yeah. He's the only one she. With Unwin she's just kinda like She just leaves him alone. Yeah. Yeah. Because she's just kinda like, oh she's annoyed with Unwen, which I don't blame her. He was kind of annoying. How do you like my code?

Do you remember that scene? I'm sorry, I just didn't like Caroline for a while at the beginning. I'm like, I just don't understand you. Mm-hmm. But yeah. And then I was thinking about going back to that George's visit with Elizabeth. Yeah, so Elizabeth kinda casually just strolls by his house on her horse and he looks out the window and there she is. So he runs out on his sorcy and goes to see her. You're gonna go by without dropping in and saying hi.

bit of a tease, but she knew she was gonna get an invitation. I felt Well yeah, she was looking up at the window. She totally did that on purpose. Did you notice their coats matched? Oh, they were color coordinated, weren't they? It was very color coordinated. Was it meant to be?

It it it's very like that meeting with them it made me remind me of like those movies where like you're entering into a room and and you can't bluff and you have to keep your like cool and composure because you know the other person. So she was trying to read it. Like not lose composure and character to Well, especially when he's like, I want us to be friends and then eventually more than that, basically and pretty much like you can just be my mistress. He's not saying to leave her husband.

She's just kinda like Okay. And it's blackmail because he's asking her why don't we gradually increase our friendship, particularly if it safeguards the people you love. Yes. So that's blackmail. Yep. And she's just like The look on your face is like. You know, I'm like, Oh you gotta be careful. That like you're going down the wrong road if you're like there with that guy. I had got like the throw up taste in my mouth. So yeah, so that's that's something that she may be contemplating. Mm-hmm.

And then we see the next one of the scenes where Doctor Ennis is has this little tray of like apples. Do you remember that? And he's taking it to the people. Oh yeah. And then they're kinda like bruised and stuff and Bikers can't be choosers. Right.'Cause she's giving him a hard time about the fruit that he's giving'em. But if that's all that they have,'cause he was like, This is the last until the next harvest Mhm.

And I think this is where K you can see a little bit more about Caroline's character because she goes to her uncle, she asks about um he asks her about the engagement and then, you know. And then he asks her about like, you know, he hopes that they marry for love and then we can see that Caroline's well, I think he's marrying me for my money, not for love, Uncle.

She can see right through that. Yeah. And then she continues to ask for money for a different game. A gambling. A different gambling. Right? Which is interesting because she's gambling with like Dr. Annis for his attention. And her uncle's just like, Huh? Okay. Yeah. I mean I guess you can have more money. Give me some more marzipan. What is that that she gets? Marzi pan from the store? Sugared almonds. Never mind she was always asking them.

Like, oh that must have been a thing. Sugared almonds. Sugared almonds. Marcy pan. So yeah, so Ross is thinking of opening up the old mine. Right. Because he's not sure how things are gonna pan out with the other one. So now this kind of might be his only hope. Francis. Which I find a little interesting because it's like, do you really want to trust Francis? He hasn't been quite the uh it's a big thing to put your trust. But they shake on it. They did. And Elizabeth was listening to the door.

And like you said, why do you think she was smiling? I know. And because you're probably happy that Ross will be in her life more. It just irritates me. Which I'm like the it yeah, it is an interesting realization at this point in this th in the m show because George Frances got her. George obviously is intrigued by her. And Ross is still not over her. So there's three men in her life. Yeah, and can like make them do things probably.

Those were ladies of that time I guess. I don't know. Right. So yeah, and Francis was about to divulge the information about what he had done to Ross in the past that he didn't realize. Remember about like giving off the list of names. Um Ross was basically like, I don't want to hear it, it's in the past. Yeah. So don't tell me anything. Let's just move on. Which France was like, Okay. So but then Do you think he took the easy way out?

Maybe. Right. Yeah. I think he should have at least been more open about it and just kind of'cause maybe that would have changed. Ross might not have been thinking that he would have been. I think he was surprised. Right. Yeah. They were in good terms. Yeah. But Ross ends up finding out later from George because basically Ross is saying, Well, we're not gonna worry about your mind. You're like not gonna be connected to anything that we're doing.

George is basically like, well you kind of are. Yeah. How did he where do you think he got that money? Mm-hmm. And how well how do you think he got that money? Mm-hmm. He gave away the carn more company people. And then we get a fight. Rock finally gets to punch him in the face. Yep. But then George is so weasily he's digging his thumbs and his eyeballs. I couldn't watch. And it was like a long time. He just kept sticking his fingers in his eyeballs. I felt like that was kind of

A pansy way to get out of it. Like you've been taking these boxing lessons, dude. Just you know come on, put'em up. Put the fists up. That's what you've been learning. And it's like, no, I'm gonna stick my fingers in your eyeballs. Like I don't know. I feel like that's what a kid would do. Yeah, but it does hurt I think. Well I'm sure it did hurt. I still just felt like really

I'll watch you try it with someone else. I couldn't even watch him do it to it's very Roz. It's very cruel. Like I think that's a really cruel thing. And I felt like when they were fighting and that you saw Ross getting, you know, beat down. Yes. Like, really Ross? That's all you got? Come on. Like you think he was probably holding back. I felt like he was holding back, which he was. Because maybe he's in

Maybe he kinda knew in the back of his mind this might make trouble. Yeah. But then at the very end he did get a couple of good punches. He got some really good punches. George knit up on the floor. Yes. And then they got kicked out. And then that's where Ra um eventually

Dwight's walking down the beach and he sees Ros licking his wounds basically. That was good. And then he sees the captain, so he's talking to the captain. And then I liked so then Francis.

He's like, Oh, I heard I should come and see like what happened and then he sees he's talking to the captain, about to leave, but then Ross persuades him to stay. Yeah. And is like It was a good way. Now is the time to get And I like how he gave Jo Francis the look like, I'm forgiving you what you just did to me, I know what you did, now you need to forgive this guy.

Yeah, he didn't even think. He didn't even have to say much. No, no. He just gave him the look. Like I know what that means. My cousin totally knows what I did. Yep. And if he ran into George, he knew that. probably cause the uh eruption and volcano and Well and then didn't they kind of ask them s the captain asked, So what did I mean, make you what made this fight happen? Yeah. And rather than saying what it was, he was just like

Like his necktie or something like that. Like something he was wearing he didn't like and then they all laugh. And then we have the cute scene where Verity meets like Esther, um, Captain Bellamy's daughter, gets there too early. Yes. And then poor Verity is like a daughter is a brat. She's not friendly. She's not the nicest. Yes, she's not very friendly. Verity's very nervous about it. I like how Verity's like, you don't have to think of me as your mom or stuff.

A friend, yes. Like she doesn't expect her to treat her like a mom. She's like, but then I like how later the son shows up, so then she's kind of nervous, like, oh great, now here we go with the son. And he like gives her a big hug. I'm just like, oh excuse, you know, it's not every day you get like another mom, basically. He was really sweet. He's a real sweetheart. And then you kinda telling the system. So that ended up being happy.

So then Demilza in the meantime had decided she's gonna go fishing because yet again they're running out of food and I think she was already irritated with Ross because that whole you know, I guess we forgot. Yeah. Well he was trying to find a way if if Trendcrum, that lawyer guy, was at their meetings Ross knew that eventually George was gonna have an effect on his mind and there could be some

It's like basically the same thing as those jailer people. He was bringing getting goods, importing goods without paying the duty. And Ross was helping. 'Cause I was on his part of the beach. Yeah. Which is risky. It's risky business.'Cause it's it's close to that oh I just well almost ha got hanged and now I could potentially Demelzo's freaking out. Yeah,'cause she's already been through that whole whole ordeal. And now he's risking his life again by doing it. And here she's gonna have a baby.

And then he's telling her, like, don't want you even going on a boat and so she's just like, I can't even go on a boat and that you can go and do this. So I don't know, I could kinda tell with She was on the boat. Yep. She goes on the boat. Like, forget it. I'm gonna go get my fish. But then she starts having some labor pain. Traction.

And then I like how eventually she's like, Yeah, okay, I need to go back now and then she's trying but then they're getting worse and then Roth comes home and realizes she's gone. I know and he's like no there and he's just like they're just having this amazing Exchange of marital pleasantries as I call it. She's like, Where would you be if I hadn't come along? Drinking and brawling, dodging the noose? Where would you be if I hadn't come along?

Yelling at each other and calling each other names and as he's rescuing her out of the boat and carrying wiggling and she's like, I'm gonna crown you. Yeah. that was pretty entertaining. It was a very entertaining moment with the poll darks. We have to carry her all the way home, this pregnant lady all the way. I mean like up back up the cliff.

Muscles, yeah. Muscles, that's all we can say. Muscles. So then she has a baby boy. Yay. All is well. All is well. And we realize eventually that Debalza was very good at giving birth. She's very resilient. There was no problem. Birthing mama. There was no problems. No complications. None at all. And at this point now towards the end of the show we know that it's time Caroline starts to say her goodbyes.

Oh wow. What a quaint name. Remember? Dwight's such a quaint name. Drive on. Yep. Never ever meet again. Yes. Such a quaint name. Drive on. Let's get out of here. To her driver. go away. And I feel like Dwight has to contain his emotions here because George is right there. Yeah, that's true. Did you catch that? It's just like, okay, she's going. Oh boy. Goodbye, my love. Yes. Goodbye, my love.

Okay, now we're going to dumb a number and now we need to go back to pole dark. So the baby at the end is getting And the Poldark family is united. Yes. And they're at Wheel Grays sharing a toast. Looks like it's gonna be a good for the Polar family. Yes. But we'll see where this goes. And it's a cute um ending scene there because Ross is telling Demelza where he got that his dad named that. And he referred to his own. As a c he was she was a compass for his dad. And then do

He said something about like I found my star in a dog fight, like in my dog star or something like that. And then Demelza likes that comment, they smile and they embrace. So loving. By the sunset on the cliff. Yes. It's always absolutely the best. Cliff moments. Totally. The best sunset moments. The I know. Makes you want to go there. Totally. So that's it. We're just gonna have to see what happens next. Fad the baby, starting a new mine. How long will

Paul Ros be doing the whole trading thing with Trentcom. Yeah, Trencom trouble again. Yeah. And now that the Polar family are friends and everyone's seeing each other, what does that mean for DeMels and Ross? And Ross and Elizabeth. Or Elizabeth and Frances. Or Ross and Demilda. Or Frances and Ross. Or Ross and yeah, it's so many. And Garrick and Prudy. Ha ha ha! Oh, so many possibilities. So many possibilities. Alright, so when it's time, tune in for episode five.
