Episode 17 - Livestream Test #4

Alright. Here's another rare episode of podcast idiot. I am live right now. My stream is live at stream dot sets and sounds dot com. I have to have a podcasting idiot redirect as well. The the main address of Of the stream is actually k j b dot stream. Not k j b dot stream. It's k j k j b stream. Dot web hop dot m e colon eight thousand slash stream. That's why, you know, I'm gonna make a a domain redirect, a sub domain redirect over to that address. It'll make it a lot easier, for people just click on that. So I am live right now, but for some reason, I am not getting any audio whatsoever out of Curio Castor or from the split kit, and I don't know why. The stream is working because at my website's URL, at the that giant URL I just gave you or stream dot sets and sounds dot com. That one's working just fine. So I'm a little confused as to why there's no audio coming out on in a podcast app, or at least on Keriocaster. Let me check out pod friend. Oh, not pod friend, podverse. Let me get my phone out. Do not disturb. Turn that on. Alright. Opening up podverse. And I'll get to the music show in just a in just a few minutes here. I'm going to yeah. It shows live. Podcast idiot Live. That's running just fine off a pod verse. Why is there no audio coming out of Curocaster unless I have something stupid set up on my PC again where I can't hear something for some reason? Although, let's see my speakers. Now it's supposed to come out of my speakers. It says it's running. Audio levels at forty eight. So it should be working. Let's see. How about on telegram? Okay. You know, I, I'm gonna record an episode of Sats and Sounds. This is like a, okay, direct link. Okay. That one I know works. The the audio is coming out of Podverse, so I think I have everything set up correctly. But for some reason, in my browser, Nothing's coming out of Keriocaster. Thank you, sir. Or, ma'am, Booberry. I don't really know what you are. It's okay. We don't need labels here. It's the internet. Okay. Yeah. So this is, this is an episode of podcast idiot, which, you know, as you can, or hear, I I barely get everything working. I am the mothman. I don't know what that means, but it's funny. Let's see. So, this is where I I do, like, my experimental podcast stuff. So, you know, where my normal podcast, which I also don't do very regularly, I I satin sounds is probably the most regular one I do, in addition to chasing the yield, what's the link for the Podverse stream? Well, you should be able to just go to, in the app, look up podcast idiot in your app, I'm just typing this out as I talk. It should show I'm live. Oops. Okay. So, yeah, it's chasing the yield. That one's become a little bit more a hit or miss as well, but that one's a financial podcast where I just talk about my style of investing and and what I'm doing and how my Folios perform, but podcast, sorry, sets and sounds has been more fun because you just do music. I do a short show. I do like four songs I start out with three. I'm doing four now. I think today I'm gonna play five. And then at the end of the month or beginning of the month or whatever somewhere around around that that end. I do, like, an hour long show where I replay everything that I played during the previous month. So what I'd like to do is I'd like to do that live, if possible, because it would be kinda cool to have some listeners and maybe I don't know. I I can't do cross app comments yet, but, you know, maybe do something using my phone or, You know, something along those lines using, some kind of chat function or audio, some somehow, because I can I can plug my phone into my podcast rig? It's to it's a zoom podrack p four p four. And I can get the audio through there, so I can even take phone calls and route that through this this little device. It's really very cool. Okay. Cross app is real easy. I just I I I can't wrap my my brain around cross app comments yet. Nothing in Curio Castor there. But the feed says I'm live. Yeah. So here, I'm gonna do some switching of the album art. Which that works just fine. So there's some I have some something's not set up correctly to like Curio Castor hear the audio, and I'm not sure why, because it works in in Podverse. Well, I am going to get moving on the Sats and Sounds show I'm gonna record that. It's gonna this is like a meta episode where I have an episode wrapped in an episode. Oh, wrapped. Yeah. Wrapped in an episode. It's inside. Okay. So let's get that back up here. I'm using my Playit Cartwall. That's how I play out my songs. Let me get my mouse out of my keyboard drawer so it doesn't make so much noise. And if you happen to hear my dogs make noise, That's just the fact of not being professional at anything. Okay. So I got that set up. I'm ready to go there. I should have a split kit and a separate window so I can see that. Shrink that down. Let's see. Oh, that's why I couldn't find it last night. I was looking at Sats and Sounds. Yeah. Well, I I don't wanna experiment with that one because I'm just doing the show. I'd like to keep that one as as pure as I can possibly be where I'm just gonna do the music show. Anything that I talk about would be different. Okay. Let's see. I don't know if this would be it, but take a look at these URLs, that m p three. I tried the dot m p three, but that doesn't work with my stream. The stream that I create puts out a dot m three u, and I don't know if I can or how to change that. But if I if I just do straight stream, if you go in a browser, it goes it goes and pulls up the the audio feed. Yeah. That last one is that's mine. That's my straight up stream. You click that one. You go to, It connects with my computer right here at home. But I can't do a dot m p three I've tried it and it doesn't work. So I don't know in this software. The codec is MP three. It also has, Ogg and Opus, AAC, Flac, and wave, But I don't see how I can change the file extension. And what I'm using to stream is a program called but, b u t t. I've got a link on podcast idiot dot com and one of the previous blog posts to but It made it fairly simple. I had to look into live streaming once in a while when I get home. I got no idea how to do any of that. Neither did I. Rolling on. I had no idea. I struggled with it for a couple of months. I had a lot of fits and starts. I couldn't get it working on my computer at home. But finally, I ran across one YouTube video that was really old, like, twelve years old or something like that about IceCast And I think there was a couple of little things in there that I was missing. I didn't know what to do. What software is the audio stream set up with? I'm using IceCast. Icecast to stream. And then, butt is actually what connects with Icecast. And then there is what's the other software? The other software is called what did I do with it? Where is it? The other software It's called Duck, DUC. And I have a link go to pod if you go to podcast idiot, there's a blog post I had, like, I think it's the last regular blog post, and I had, description of everything that I was doing and links to all the software that I was using. So, okay let me bring back up the split kit. Okay. And bring up my software again. Okay. So now I'm just gonna straight up do my stats and sounds. Show. So bear with me. It sets the sound. into a test of my ability to, multitask while streaming while live streaming. There's so much of this stuff that, that's not automated. So I'm changing album art live on the fly while I'm streaming. Not working in pod verse where the audio is coming out. It's working in Curio cast to where the audio is not coming out. So, that's something I'm gonna have to figure out after today's show. And I think out of all these apps, right now it's just Keriocaster that you can watch this live album art switching if you're listening to a live stream. All these these other apps, though, will work after the fact. So when you're if you're downloading this this music podcast after the fact, the chapters will change the album art automatically as well as switch the wallets for the payments. I don't use telegram all that much just really for this. I've used it in the past, in Europe. I I needed a a telegram account in order to use a a rental car app, I think it was. I think that's what it was. But anyway, oh, shoot. You know what? I never did. I, y, y, y, y, because I'm doing too many things at one time. I forgot to change the album art on the last show. Well, it doesn't really matter in the live stream. Well, I guess it does, because then it didn't switch the wallet. So that was something I needed to do when I went to chasing ghosts and when I went back to myself. So, live and learn. I've got too many windows open. I'm trying to do too many things. I'm reading, reading the telegram stream and then, trying to switch all this music and stuff. So okay. So what what you just heard happened there was I I recorded a show called Satin Sound, and it's taking music from, services like, Wavelake, w a v l a k e dot com, where the music artists upload their songs to that service for the purposes of going direct to the listener for payment. It's value for value. So you the listener can designate how much you wanna send to that artist as you're listening. And you can also do something called boostograms, And I'm not sure. I I think it's called boosts almost everywhere. I'm not sure on wave lake. Do they even do boost some wave lake? They do. Right? And that's where if you particularly like the song, or for whatever reason, you know, you can send, extra, not just the streaming sets that you're sending while listening, but say you wanna, like, oh, this is a great tune. You know, you can send an extra thousand sets, ten thousand sets. There's no limit. You could send a hundred thousand sets. And that's that's the whole beauty of this whole new system, new way of of listening to music. And I think You can, you can do this with podcasts as well. So if you're listening to this podcast on a new podcast app, on a modern podcast app that does, streaming payments. You can go to podcast idiot dot com. I've got links to all that kind of stuff. You you you know, anybody can do this. You know, I I have a my degrees in computer science, but I can't code worth a damn. But what I can do is I'm not afraid to to work on things and figure things out and break them, you know, where they they don't work. Like, I I tried this yesterday. I tried the live streaming yesterday, and I changed the setting, the mix minus on my zoom contract p four. I changed the mix minus from, I turned it on. And the reason I did that, and I I couldn't remember that I changed that setting, is I was practicing with live streaming. And I was I had, playlist set up in VLC that was playing out through my streaming server. And I I had the, the butt app, b u t t, getting the audio from the headphones of the p four. And when I found what was happening when I was playing through VLC, is that I was getting some feedback. I was hearing, you know, it was out of or it was phasing, and I I could hear everything everything was double as if You know, like, when when a radio listener calls into a radio show, and they've got the radio on in the background, and they're talking, and you can hear that, delay. You know, they're they're they're delaying them, the delays coming back through the phone into the radio show. So everything's an echo. So I I turned that on, and that cut off the echo. And I forgot to turn it off again when I went to attempt the live stream and I totally forgot about it. I couldn't remember what I had changed, and it just really flummoxed me. So today, I figured that part out. So now, the problem that I have today is that the audio was coming through on Podverse. That much I saw for sure. And the stream is running just fine. The audio is coming out of the stream just fine, but in Curio Castor, There was no audio. If you hear that sliding around, that's my dog in the background. My labrador retriever getting up and moving around. So that that much I have to figure out yet. But at least I know I can stream live. I know I can do a live show If I feel like it, I'd like to what I'd like to do is get some, like, it would be cool to do, like, listener call ins. And take live calls, while I'm streaming. I'd like to test that out one day. I can I can have people call into my phone? I've I can hook up my phone to my podcast rig and have a those phone calls come in. But right now it's it's tough enough just even keeping track of this telegram stream, you know, and it's It was great though, because people were letting me know, you know, what was going on, and if the stream sounded good, and where they could hear it, where they couldn't.
