He asks how much worse will our punishment be if we do despite unto the Spirit of Grace? He tells us it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God, and because of this thought, he pleads with his audience to not cast away their confidence in the Lord. He says that we need patience to be able to receive the promises of God, because the just shall live by his faith. He boldly states that we are not of them that draw back unto perdition, but we are of those who believe to the saving of the soul.
