Having dispatched a water drake in the Sinister Fen near Thrydingas, Cadoc prays, Fynn recovers, and Solinus searches for his axe, while Black Jell uses the eye of the monster to divine the true path towards the slave girl Efa who ran away during the fight. There's an isolated Fenlander village, the sign of the cross, and a Loon hidden and waiting. Then ... a lying elder, the girl at risk, and two transformations ...
