¶ March Arrives and Spring Anticipation
Well , all right , Dave , we are into March .
Yes , I know , man , it is hard to believe that we are two months in already . It flew by .
I think it's going to slow down . That's my personal opinion .
God , it's got to man .
Well , march is in like a lion , out like a lamb right .
Yep .
I hope we flip that around . That'd be our goal .
I'm just happy that we've got sunshine and warm occasionally .
Occasionally . Well , I just got back from Atlanta . It was a little nicer down there than it was here today . Yep , could have been any sunnier in Kentucky today , but it was not particularly warm .
No , it was not Not in the shade . We're supposed to get some rain and warm weather coming up .
Well , the daffodils are poking above the mulch . So it's coming , man . Spring is coming , it's coming hard . Well , along with spring is show season . Yep , yep , and I do not . Folks , I'm sorry I've yet to make it to a show , but my illustrious co-host , kentucky Dave , has made it to a show . Dave , where you been Went ?
to the Columbus show BlizzCon . There was no blizzard , so that's always good news . Yeah , that was last year . Yeah , really . Um , you know , there was snow on the ground and it was cold , but there there , there was no snowstorm driving up , no snowstorm driving back . It got to .
It's the first show of the season that I've gotten to , but not the first show of the season .
You made that mistake , that's right . No , no , first show of the season that I've gotten to , but not the first show of the season . You made that mistake already . That's right .
No First show of the season that I have gone to , and what was great was I got to see a bunch of friends and listeners . Got to see Inch In fact , I had lunch with Inch . Got to see Ben Pluth , got to see a number of listeners , had a great time with lee fogel , and then got to meet some listeners and talk modeling .
In fact , one of our listeners wanted to try photoetch . So , oh yeah , I gotta follow up , don don't I ? Yes , you need to reach out and send him that article , because I talked to him about the article that you used as your guide . I'm impressed you remembered that . What can I say ?
Well , let me ask Any show we've been to in the last year , we've been behind the table for a fair amount of time . You freelance this one .
Yes , I did not have a table , because by the time it became obvious that I , at least , was going to go , the tables were sold out .
So that's good for them .
So yes , absolutely . And boy , there were deals to be had . It was a good show , the great models on the table , good turnout , the vendors were really good . I spent some money , picked up a few things and had a great . I mean it's rare that you go to a show and have a bad time . I mean it's just fun . You have to break your model or something .
Yeah , exactly , and even then I'm not sure that's the worst thing that could happen to you and we keep emphasizing on here if you're a modeler and you don't go to shows I'm not talking about entering , but just at least go to the show , Look at the models that are entered , even if you don't enter .
I didn't enter a model , but the social aspects of modeling are just so good and it's so much fun and , like I said , I had a number of conversations with folks , listeners all modelers , obviously and just really interesting conversations that I wouldn't have had , experiences I wouldn't have had had I not gone .
So , even though I had to drive three hours up and three hours back , all by my lonesome , I had a great time and I got to catch up on some podcasts .
Well , good for you , man , Glad you went . I'm sorry I couldn't go .
It's all right , life intervenes , man , life intervenes .
On the vein of sorry , I couldn't go . Where are we going ?
Well , I'm going to Canada , that is , if they'll let me in . Heritage Con is the last weekend . Is it the last weekend or second to last weekend ? It's at the end of March and it's on a Sunday and Heritage Con is . This will be the third time I've gone .
It is one of my favorite shows because , among other things , we get to see all of our Canadian friends . The Hamilton Club really rolls out the red carpet for their niceness and hospitality and it is absolutely true . And the guys in Hamilton really go out of their way to make us feel welcome when we show up .
And it's a model contest inside an aircraft museum . I mean , you just can't beat that .
No , it's pretty nice , and we've talked about that a lot . Well , keeping my fingers crossed , man , it's a day-by-day thing .
Maybe something will happen . Maybe there will be a schedule reshuffle . You know you can up until the night before we leave , or I leave , I know I've got a lot of runway .
I do have a lot of runway . You do .
You've got a lot of runway . I do have a lot of runway , you do . You've got a ton of runway . So hopefully something will change and you'll get to go , because I know it's one of your favorite shows too , mike , how many episodes do we have in March ?
We have two feature episodes , dave . Episode 136 and 137 are coming up . All right , 136 is going to are coming up . All right , 136 is going to be another Shop Talk episode , and apparently this is getting some legs Pleasantly surprised . Yep , yep .
I enjoy them , I mean .
I do too , and I guess after how long 40 plus years for each of us in this hobby .
Yep .
Maybe we learned a thing or two , one or two things , one or two , not that we're experts , but you know we got our opinions and we've had experiences .
What I like is the responses that we get , because whatever subject we happen to touch on , you'll get listeners who will respond with their take on it or a tip or something we didn't know , or a pointer to a website . It really is great the interaction we get off of those Shop Talk episodes .
Well , after that episode 137 , we are , for the first time in 2025 , we're bringing the Wheel of Accidental Wisdom back . All right and hopefully to be confirmed yet . Hopefully tomorrow , Dave .
Mr Ed Barath , out in California is going to be joining us in third chair to offer his wisdom , and he's been at this a lot longer than we have , so really anxious to see what he might have to say on some of these questions .
So yeah , that'll be fun .
If that's not what's going to happen for 137 , you'll hear about that in 136 , but hopefully we're on track to make that work . Well , Dave , we had a call to action last month and it has manifested itself on the dojo .
Yes , it has .
Would you remind folks what that was ?
I was doing some reorganization in my model room because it had become so cluttered that I was feeling claustrophobic and kind of getting to the point where I didn't want to come down into the model room .
And so I talked about clutter and I talked about my hobby space and I asked people to share a photo of their hobby space , their model room or whatever , wherever they did their building . And boy did people respond , that's for sure . I mean , we got to thank all of you who posted a photo of your model space . I enjoyed the heck out of seeing them .
The ones that were on the messy side made me feel a little bit better about myself . The ones that were super neat and clean , that gave me something to look to make as a goal . Yeah something to strive for , something to strive for Very , very well put , but all of them were great to see put , but all of them were great to see .
It's amazing how everyone is different , but they all have many of the same features . I love the uniqueness of each of them . It was great . We may have to harvest all those and put them in a gallery somewhere .
We may have to . Once we get to the gallery stage , we can just ask folks to redo it Exactly , send us a photo . But some of those that were pretty messy , I was like , yeah , it looks like me about half the time . Some of those that were super organized , I'm like that's me , maybe never the time .
Yeah , that's me never .
At the old shop in the old house . Yeah , maybe , probably a little bit , but yeah , that's what I want to get back to , because I like being able to set my workbench up for whatever I'm doing and then move all that off the workbench to get ready for whatever's coming next . So that's the way I like to work . So , thanks a lot , folks .
We appreciate it and look for some new call to action coming up in one of the next two episodes . We've got to do it again , Dave .
Yep , and , speaking of the dojo , we've been adding members steadily and people have been not just posting photos of their workshop but posting photos of what they finished , what they're working on , et cetera , et cetera . And , guys , I love it .
It makes my day every day , no matter what's going on , no matter if I got plumbing woes at home or clients that are a little bit difficult at work , every day I can look at the dojo and I know it's going to bring a smile on my face . So thank you all and please keep contributing .
Well , I second all that , Dave , and let's get on with March man .
That's right , it's time , man . I'll see you next time .
