Good morning. I am not Simon Beaumont. Now, I'm not bowing to be back with you tomorrow. I don't worry about that, so between now and one o'clock today we can keep each other company. It's Oliver Peterson with you on Perth Today, not Perth Live. And maybe I reckon every time that I say the wrong show name. Today I'm going to donate ten dollars to the Big Freeze Melbourne and Collingwood from the MCG you'll hear it live
here on six PR this afternoon. Speaking of footy, is it now the depths of the spare for the Eagles? Is this as low as it goes? The loss of the Cagers in Bonn Vegas? And if you venture down that forest Highway to watch the footy yesterday one double three eight eighty two, Scowey was there and he is here with us after eleven o'clock today, still on footy,
but the Rugby League variety. We've got the hottest tickets in town, A double pass to win a STAATEU Oranger next Wednesday night at op the stadium.
Details on that's coming up.
Before ten o'clock this morning, I'm gonna have a chat to the Housing Minister John Kerry, because he's confirmed the state government will move to take control of that land next to the Perth Children's Hospice. It's under construction in Nedlands because of that ridiculous, that downright disgraceful shenanigan and game that the local council there has been playing. For
the life of me, I do not understand. It's every single possible hurdle that Fiona Argyle, the mayor and her council could put in place for the construction of the hospice, and this parkland for children who are going to die is one of the most heartless examples of leadership anywhere. I applaud the government for making the right call being forced to take control of this land because Nedlands has
done the wrong thing. The council is in all of strife and I would not be surprised if the administrators are called in sooner.
Rather than later.
But more with the Lands Minister John Kerry coming up with that soon. Also on the show today, a very stinky situation in Perth South and is four years old too young for full time? Kindie right, let's clear this up once and for all. Yes, no question time here on Perth today. The poll is open and it is relating to the King's Birthday honors being acknowledged via public holidays in a number of the Eastern States this Monday. But this relates to the former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
You will hear that he has been given the top honor a Companion of the Order of Australia, for his eminent service to the people in the Australian parliaments, noting his contributions to his leadership of the national COVID nine nineteen response, his economic initiatives, and his work on national security, especially through leadership of Australia's contribution to ORCUS. And I ask, does Scott Morrison deserve his AC one double three eight
eighty two? Does Scott Morrison deserve he's AC for his leadership through COVID. He's a few little memories from those COVID years and Scomo's leadership. Let's take you back to March twenty twenty.
Life is changing in Australia as it is changing all around the world. Life is going to continue to change as we deal with the global coronavirus.
This is once in one.
Hundred year type event. We haven't seen this sort of thing in Australia since the end of the First World War. But together we are of course up to this challenge, all Australians. But we just need to continue to keep our heads focusing on the right information, making good decisions, helping and supporting each other each and every day to make the changes that are very necessary as we deal
with this very real situation. Stage one would see that in enclosed spaces for gatherings in the following facilities to be closed as of midday tomorrow, registered and licensed clubs, licensed premises in hotels and pubs, entertainment venues and cinemas, casinos and nightclubs, restaurants and cafes will be restricted to
take away only indoor sporting venues. Places of worship in closed spaces for funerals and things of that nature will have to follow the strict four square meter will which will be informed.
I am deeply regretful that those workers and those business owners who will be impacted by this decision will suffer the economic hardship that undoubt they now have to face.
So by no later than midnight tomorrow, that's eleven fifty nine pm Saturday, States and trial territories will be quarantining all arrivals through our airports, in hotels and other accommodation facilities for the two weeks of their mandatory and self isolation before they are able to return to their home. Now on bolt purchasing of supplies, stop hoarding.
I can't be more blunt about it.
Stop it.
It's not sensible, it's not helpful, and I've got to say it's been one of the most disappointing things I've seen in Australia behavior in response to this crisis.
Does Scott Morrison deserve here is AC for his leadership through COVID one double three eight eighty two?
Nick says no.
The only thing that clown should be awarded is an order of incompetency. He's the reason that we now have albow. Gary's a hell no. Chris says yes because job Keeper and the small business cash flow Boosts was a strategy that saved many of my clients during COVID. Raise A no AC for Morrison, the stealth Minister for everything he was a deceitful mongrel. Scott says yes, yes, yes, Ollie, and is it definitely yes? Richard's a yes and as
you heard that little memory package. It started so well, didn't it, the cooperative spirits that you thought every one and every single state was on board Team Australia until the labor premiers realized they could wedge the federal governments. And with that and I reckon the goodwill that our governments had tarnished with the Australian people, probably will never recover,
never be the same. Yes, job seeker and OZ study welfare payments increase, job keeper help businesses keep their doors open.
But this practice of awarding leaders.
With King's birthday honors, you'll recall it was Mart McGowan and Daniel Andrews last year.
Now Scott Morrison in twenty twenty five.
He thanks after the aftermath those multiple ministeries scandals where he secretly appointed himself to five portfolios but he didn't tell the ministers or the public for that matter. Doesn't really fly, does it? One double three eight eighty two. It is our yes no on Perth today this Monday. Does Scott Morrison deserve his ac for his leadership through COVID one double three eight to eighty two. And he spoke with Ben Fordham on our sister station two GB just a short time ago.
It's very humbly mate, and you're just very very grateful, I mean, to have had the privilege to serve as Prime Minister, and particularly at an incredibly challenging time. We really hadn't seen the combination of forces, whether they be natural disasters, pandemics, threats of China, you name it. They threw it all at us and the Australian people were amazing and so you know, it's what we're able to achieve goes down to their great strength and resilience. So I'm very grateful to them.
You also were keen on kids staying in school.
You didn't win that argument, but I'll tell you what, if we had our time again, I wish we had have listened to that advice.
Well, thankfully some states did, like in South Australia. Stephen Marshall did a great job there and it was also true in Western'sustralia and Northern Territory. And so yeah, it was an issue of great debate, and I think that's one of the misunderstood things about the National cabinet. We'd agree on everything, and every state had the right because they had the constitutional authority to make whatever decisions they did. National cabinet tried to bring that together as much as
possible and we had those arguments. We have fried like any normal cabinet, and we didn't always agree on anything, and certainly on our kids staying home from school. That was one thing I never supported and I think it was a shame that that happened. But that said, look, you know, it was a global pandemic. There's no rule
book for that. We had a preparedness plan going in which we followed, and that said, you know, Australia came out of it stronger, both from a health perspective and an economic perspective, more than any other major developed country in the world, and that is a great credit to Australians.
Theresa.
Does Scott Morrison deserve his ac for his leadership through COVID?
Good morning?
Good morning? That Mangrubly, Where did it come from?
I'd go through an know for you never liked him as PM or he didn't like what he did through the COVID years, Theresa.
I don't like what he did for these poor people of Australia and also what he didn't do, nothing for the COVID people. All right, Now, he thought of himself.
Pretty strong thoughts there from Theresa, thank you for calling up. Jill says, it's not a very fair question you've asked this morning, Oli, because there is nobody and there.
Is nothing to compare with.
Scott Morrison was the only Australian Prime minister who had to govern through a pandemic. Who knows how Albaneze you would have coped. And for Jill's thoughts, she thinks he did a pretty good job, Linda saying definitely a yes from me. He did the best anyone could do in those very difficult times and he got us through. Tony says, yes, I guess he does. He took the most part of the exercise of compliance. Most of us were sucked into
that vortex and we failed big time. The elites were the ones who pulled the street and we were the ones who danced one double three eight eighty two to Scott Morrison deserve his ac Good morning, Darren, Yeah, good morning mate.
I don't believe so Australia was nine hundred and seventy billion dollars in debt when he committed another one hundred and sixty billion dollars that we didn't have for job keeper, which basically explains why immigration went through the roof and we were being told no international flights to coming in or out of Australia. Australians wouldn't have been at the airport to greet their loved ones, so we didn't see how many immigrants they brought in, which caused a house shortage,
second and car shortage. It destroyed the lower end earners, taxpayers, blue collar workers, destroyed them to the point of a lot of them losing the house as a lot of them being homeless. Also also for someone to try and gain votes from it, because that was the whole reason for it, with votes nothing to do with the well being of this country, because he left us in a nasty, nasti place.
So Darrendy also put that on the sholos of the state's premiers, So McGowan, Palachet, Daniel Andrews who was Gladys sparagically in dominic Peretae in New South Wales, not at all.
They're the ones that were on the front line dealing with their states and how they wanted their states to protect it. Some did a better job than others, obviously, but Scott Morrison is all prime ministers. He's a puppet for the rest. But to actually nationally commit this country to something we couldn't afford, and basically to sell out the country to afford it has left us like all politicians mate, at the time they're making these decisions, they
think they're brilliant. Once the decisions made and they've left with their pension, they're just off to go and live in the in the pastures where all he is still suffering from their choices. Man, And it's just when is his country as people going to stand up against these pocket lining thieves.
Darren, you've had a good go, I'd say. If you're going to condemn him to the extreme that you have, you should also look at some of the measures that the state premier has made and some of the decisions that they may keeping Australian separated from others who might live in other states or couldn't come home here to wa unless they are able to kick a footy, or they had billions of dollars in their own pockets. Brendan
says Goomo had the portfolio scandal. He also annoyed the biggest population in the world with the origin comments.
But hey, let's give him a higher honor.
Brad says leadership. Don't you mean a dictatorship? It is a solid no from me. Mates and Robo Debt the worst prime minister ever one double three, a toty two to Scott Morrison deserve hiss a C for his leadership through COVID. What do you think, Steve?
Absolutely, I'm actually now you know why you've got Albo back in with a thirty five percent or less primary vote at the last election because of all these people calling in thinking that Morrison was dictator. Did he mandate vaccines?
Mate? He didn't, did he?
So you give him a yes?
He put give him a yes.
He put on job keeper.
He got called to spend even more money by all the labor governments. Yet these guys are calling in gown he spent too much, I reckon. Some people in this joint need to look in the mirror and give themselves a good shape. Mate, Because that job keeper went on too long and labor were calling for more, we would have been under house arrest if albow, if there's another pandemic and we've got a labor prime minister, we'll be under house arrest like Victoria was OLLI the whole country will mate.
All right.
People need to understand that because socialism is communism and that's what will happen if we have a Labor prime minister and we have another pandemic.
Thank you, Steve Ollie, you'rescribing the barrel reckins Lou with this question. I'd leable your nobodies to be put in the position and see what they would do differently, So God help us. Shane though says no. Anyone that pushed the narrative and the vaccination mandate should be charged, not rewarded.
It's my opinion it.
Always has been and absolutely not reckons Jimbo of Kiara not a self serving political hack with the moral compass of a sleazy salesman. One double three eight to'ty two You can Scott Morrison deserves his AC twenty two past nine. You're on Perth today, Oli Peterson filling in for Simon Beaumont's twenty five after nine Oli in for Bowie this Monday. The yes no Perth Today. Question is does Scott Morrison deserve his AC? The yes is at twenty six, the
nose at thirteen. Chris is a liberal voter, but he voted Labour in twenty twenty two because of how bad Morrison and Freedenberg did either the cheap homeowners grants ruined, the housing market, destroyed the twenty to thirty year olds trying to buy a home. Phil reckons though no Polly
deserves recognition, recognition for doing their job. Morrison thought he was JC, not AC and Allen's an absolute yes, Labour said, I know, for releasing super when people like me were drowning in debt, when it was our money in that COVID pandemic. Yes, yes, yes. As shortly John Kerry the Lands and the Housing Minister to join me because the state government is moving to take Allan Park out of
the hands of Needland's council. But the former Defense Minister from twenty nineteen to twenty twenty one, Linda Reynolds, has been listening into six PR this morning and has phoned through Linda.
Good morning, Good morning, Ollie, welcome to Mornings.
Well it's a one off, Linda. I'll be back at one o'clock tomorrow on Perth Live. But you Reckon Skomo deserves his AC absolutely he does.
And I'm so glad to read that he got it. And I've already messaged him this morning and congratulated him. If anybody deserves one, he does. I was in his cabinets for the entire time of his Prime ministership, and I saw firsthand and experienced just the emotional and mental toll that these difficult times did on Scott and Australia.
Owes him a huge debt of gratitude because with Job Keeper he saved millions of jobs, families, the economy, and we had cabinet pretty much every day making decisions about how best to protect our nation's health and also our economy. As Defense Minister, I worked very closely with Scott on our national security stance and on combating the communist Chinese Communist Party, and he stood up for our nation and
our nation's interests globally. He led the global efforts, and I obviously saw how he was criticized and how it was impacted by Britney Higgins and her claims about myself, about Machaya cash, about my office, and about the Prime Minister then Scott Morrison, and as we've now seen, those allegations were simply not true. So I think our nation Owes got a great debt of gratitude, and I could not be happier to see him being recognized in this way.
Do you think in some ways, Olinda, his reputation has been tarnished by those secret ministerial appointments he didn't even tell the ministers responsible, or the Australian public for that matter.
Look in relation to that, I still don't understand it. But what I saw is a man who gave it everything, literally, working eighteen twenty hours a day for months and then into years. And that sort of thing takes a toll on any human being mentally and physically, and I think Scott has acknowledged the toll that it did take on him by just doing the phenomenal job that he did.
So I'm a bit more forgiving than others for things that he did towards the end of his Prime ministership, after doing the things he did for our nation, because one of the dirty little secret, Solly, is that as politicians we're still human beings, and you know, when we go in and and own are elected, we take our mental and physical health with us and it does take its toll. So I more than most understand this and am somewhat forgiving and understanding. But he certainly.
Saved.
I think the calculation was over forty thousand lives, and he certainly saved the economy. And also every single person who've got job keeper owes him a great debt of gratitude.
I believe the National cabinets in the early days he thought this is great, everybody's putting politics to one side. They're all swimming on the same page. They're part of the same team. Was that weaponized ultimately to wedge labor premiers against a liberal prime minister for what I've described as reducing the goodwill that Australians have towards their state and federal governments.
Look, you make a very good point, Ollie, and again being part of the process throughout, I think that the National Cabinet was a stroke of genius in our federation because the Commonwealth government didn't have all of the leaders, and in this case, the states had constitutional responsibility for health and so the issue of lockdowns were absolutely an
issue for state governments. But also the issue of closing our borders was a state issue because people kept saying, well, why doesn't the Commonwealth government just open the borders and let people come back into the nation. Well, we could have opened the airports and customs. But the state governments had the ability to stop people coming into the state out of the airport. So it was a stroke of genius I believe to do that. But again, the states
made very different health decisions. You know, sometimes I wondered whether we were talking about the same COVID devirus with the chief health officers making different decisions in different states. So yes, it was the right thing to do, but yes it was weaponized by the states over time.
You have twenty one days left of being a West Australian Senator. Have you thought about what's next, Linda? For yourself, I haven't yet, OLLI.
I am making every last day count. Is nothing like leaving a job to realize how much you still want to get done. So it'll certainly be service related. I mean, I've spent my life in the military and then in the Senate, so I'll worry about that once once the last day is upon me.
Good on your Lenda, thanks for calling up and listening in bali Ye. Linda Reynolds the former Defense Minister nine twenty one. She was then the Government Services Minister in Indie, Ice Minister until March twenty twenty one and she said, sitting around that cabinet table while Scott Morrison was making the decisions that needed to be made as Prime minister during the COVID years. Do you believe that Scott Morrison deserves his AC Good morning, Steve.
I don't believe it at all. I believe that Morrison was a complete disaster for West Australia and Australia, and I believe it's only his scally mate, so they put him where he is. So I always suggest you're getting back getting on the radio and so asking about all these failures.
So Steve's a big no.
As a liberal voter, Oli Morrison is not my carpet tea reck. So many people in businesses thinking he was bigger than he was kicking China and kicking back in Hawaii.
Carl of Vannerue.
Says, no, he was doing his job like millions of ossies did every day. Job keeper went way too far and he should have been paid back by those large corporations. But Helen says, well, said Linda Reynolds, and I agree one hundred percent yes to Scott Morrison's AC one double
three eight eighty two. It is the yes no question on Perth to this morning the Scott Morrison Deserves ac The yes is at forty eight, the nose at thirty one, and next the Lands Minister John Kerry to tell you why the state government is moving to take Allen Park out of the hands of the Nedlands Council.
Good news that breakdown clear Leech Highway westbound exit to Abernethi Road in q Dale.
Traffic flowing fine.
Dealing with a truck breakdown.
Now Greatest and Highway westbound a Kuyong Road in Rivervale.
The left lane is blocked.
Traffic is heavy on approach Mitchell Freeways southbound slow. Heppen have traveling well on the Quanana Freeway. Likewise the Grand Farmer Freeway and moving well on both directions of the tunnel. I'm sap Clark on Perth Traffic Leader six PR.
The lands Minister.
Over the weekend John Kerry confirmed that the state government will move to take control of the land next to the birth Children's Hospice. You may recall the ridiculous and downright disgraceful.
Shenanigans in the games.
The local council there has been playing every possible hurdle that Fiona Argyle the Mayor and her council were put in place for the construction of this parkland.
For children who are going to die.
Don't forget here is one of the most heartless examples of leadership anywhere. You may recall this chat that I had with Mayor Argyle last month on Perth Live.
Pass A reserve under state government rules is it's really very It's gazetted for protection and that's why it has to come before both houses of Parliament for approval. So everyone in State Parliament is going to be voting on this, the Lower and the Upper House. Right, Okay, so we agree on that. That's good. And the thing is that this land. What I'm saying about Class A reserve is it's for the people. Look, the honorable En Campbell, my dad and his father are great friends, I really and
his father's no longer around. I want the hospice to be great. I'm you know, the Meryll dog is going.
To come in.
Hopefully we get invited to the opening. I'm going to deflee him and wash him. They want him at Hollywood Hospital.
But why would they invite you because you have made it so difficult over the last few months.
That is not that is not true.
But you have. But that's not that's and when they tried to start with construction at the end of last year, they were not allowed to start that construction. As Ian Campbell told us on Friday on the show, it's now going to cost the foundation another million or two million dollars in construction.
Believe do you believe the good honest mayor?
Who do you believe?
I'm putting it to you.
They're telling us, Look, you know, the fact of the matter is that we have bent over backwards to help the hospice.
My job, my role.
I want to get that build as fast as possible, so that's a no brainer.
So who do you believe the good honest mayor and her counsel who have put every stumbling block possible in the way the construction of the hospice. And now these parklands which are derelict, they have been less as a sandpit for the best part of two decades. State government's moving in. They'll take control of the land. John Kerry, the Lands Minister, joins me on Perth today. Good morning, good morning, Ollie. You are making the move in Parliament.
Soon you will be taking control of that class A reserve next to the hospice that Mayor Argyle is worried about.
Does she have any concerns here, Minister, No.
She does, And I mean, let's be frank, and you know I listened to your extensive interview with the mayor at the time, which I have to say was one of the most extraordinary interviews by anyone in local government. The reality is is that this is just dirt ball. It is just because you hear the word a class reserve doesn't mean it's pristine. And what we're talking about is a beautiful park for kids who are dying in sick It's going to be adjacent to a hospice. This
Nedlands Council have gone out of their way. They oppose the hospice. They failed to negotiate with the foundation over this parkland. They've done everything they can to be belligerent to oppose and so we've had to step in.
The Mayor says that they actually bent over backwards, but I would say they've made it even more difficult for the Perth Children's Hospital Foundation. Why has the council not read the room on this one? Do you believe, minister? And you've had to step in.
Yeah, Look, I mean, I actually didn't just step in straight away. We asked the Foundation to negotiate with the council and they did their best. But ultimately what is very clear is that whatever position the Foundation took, the council took the opposite. Again, this is about a beautiful parkland that is going to be open to the public. Four million dollars invested by the foundation to create this part.
And I take the view most of us in our lifetimes would never know as a parent how it is to care for a dying child, and if this part gives some little comfort, then it's absolutely worth doing so. I just don't get it. And what you see is just excuse after excuse. Now it's a fire risk, you know. Remember when the hospice was proposed, they said that it might be bombed by foreign entities because it was close to the barracks. I mean, this is absolute rubbish.
Well that's what they say it ours you mentioned their statement they have issued over the weekend saying your own peer review report against the Landscape Planet compromising integrity the bushfire Zone, the community of express concern regarding the bushfire Zone, ensuring public access through Allen Park to the beach, at all times. But there still will be public access to the beach my understanding and looking at the plans, Minister.
Yes for public access, and it's false. The landscaping plan, I'm advised by the foundation, has not been assessed in terms.
Of a fire riz.
So what I see here is just again and again and again. And you know, listening to that interview that you did, the way that the mayor talks about it, you know she actually said the mayoral dog is going to come in blah blah, I'm going to deflee him and wash him. This is the opening of a hospice. It's not something to be mocked or belittled by that kind of commentary. I just you know, Nedland's council should
be condemned. Their approach has been disgusting and I'm glad I've been able to step in to resolve this matter to get the park movie.
Yeah, and I think you'll get support from across the divide. Sandra Brewer of the local member of the air from the Liberal Party indicated that this is also the way forward and obviously you have the numbers with this. You may mention, though, of the obstacles that have been put in place for this just to alloy their concerns. This isn't about trying to have a land grab to steal Class A reserves because they want to make sure that this is for the people. It still is for the people, Minister, it.
Is and look, it's going to be put in a management order that means that it's with the you know, it's for the public purpose and will be publicly accessible. So contrary to other claims, understand it will be turned into a car park. This is to be a beautiful public park.
Just under another matter, for a moment the Inglewood residence, Melissa out to chat to Simon Beaumont here after your meeting recently. Take a listen.
I don't feel like he was there because he wanted to be. It was purely under sufferance. But you know, it is disappointing that it's taken us five months to get a meeting with him to raise these issues. And these are just little things. This is serious, serious issues that of reflecting an entire community. Can they get to where mister Kerry is This is not a great situation.
It's a challenging situation. I agree with that, but at the end of the day, these tenants are here's the landlord of these tenants, and if they're not going to do the right thing, then action needs to be taken to ensure that they are doing the right thing, or measures are put in place to ensure that they are getting the help that they need so that they can be doing the right thing.
Are they going to be getting the help that they need?
Minister Carey, Look, Hollie, we are certainly taking action, and I do take it seriously. I found the meeting good. I'm always respectful and listen to the residents' concerns. We are taking action. We are taking it seriously. I do need to say this, it is a legal process, and accordingly I cannot risk going into the detail of the commentary because that actually might then mean that we are
not successful in an eviction. And obviously we're trying to de escalate what has been going on their work with police, extra CCTV on site. So yes, understand the residence frustrations and we are trying to work through it to resolve and de escalate.
Did you want to be at that meeting? Melissa says you didn't want to be there?
No, that's not the case. I mean I thought actually was a good meeting, listened attentively. You know, I do take it seriously.
That's why I met them.
Minisa, thank you very much any time.
I really appreciate it.
That's the lands in the housing Minister John Kerry joining us this morning here on Perth. Today they will move to take control of that class A reserve next to the construction of the hospice in Swanbourne. Jan saying, Ollie, that was such a great interview that you did with Argyle and now she has fallen. Yes, thank goodness, someone came to their senses well, kicking and screaming all the
way now talking about these bushfire threats. It is the most heartless decision of a council and what is particularly upsetting. And I've spoken to some of the parents who have either been through the process of losing a child or maybe in that process sooner than later, because the hospices where their child may end up say we don't want to upset anybody. Why should they ever be made to
feel that way. They're losing a child, a son or a daughter, and the counsel has stirred up a whole heap of unnecessary emotions over what is effectively a patch of dust and sand that it hasn't looked after itself for twenty years. Get some perspective for goodness sake, Eileen says, I can't believe Jana Argaile believes she's a good, honest mayor and yet consistently oppose the hospice in the park.
She's lost the plot big time, Ollie. What in Heaven's name is a class A reserved land for except to benefit the community. Surely there couldn't be anything more worthy than easing the pain of dying children and their family. And I'm glad the Minister is intervening here here. I lean. It's not very often says Ken from Hillary's that I agree with John Kerry, but he is right regarding this and the dysfunctional Nedlands Council. This part of Allen Park
is a waste land at the moment. The concept is a great one for dying children, and Leslie says Nendland's council has formed when it comes back to knocking approvals for people with disability or disadvantage, many of us will remember their rejection of the Dracilian House in the eighties or the nineties, which was to be constructed for disabled people and D everyone believes we desperately need a beautiful hospice for children. It's essential state labor. Government has a
history of stealing public land. It's completely wrong. Tawari chunks of Whiteman Park, this land that the hospice is on, and they even stole the Perth City Council's land for a primary school. The theft is outrageous. The government should have handed over the land they owned or purchase. It's a lovely piece of land to build the hospice on.
That's D's view one double three eight eighty two. If you'd like to have your say, the yes no this Monday on Perth to Days, does Scott Morrison deserve his ac The yes is at sixty seven, the nose at forty two. You can have your say by picking up the phone and next our US correspondent Lauren to MARSI has just been shot by a rubber bullet during these rites in la we look to go live to Lauren and see how she is.
It is twelve to ten, now Ollie with you this morning for Bowie.
At nine to ten, the third day of demonstration against Sir Donald Trump's immigration crackdown in Los Angeles is. The arrival of about three hundred federal troops have spurred for a lot of anger and fear among some residents and courting all of this is nine's US correspondent Lauren to Marsi, who has been shot by a rubber bullets.
After hours, the saddening off this situation has now rapidly deteriorated, the LAPD moving in on horseback, firing.
Other bullets, and protesters moving them on through the heart of Las.
Lauren joins me live from la Now, are you okay? Good morning?
I'm okay, guys, We're in a safe spot now. I've stepped away from everything. Got to be of a saw leg that I'm okay.
Thank you. What happened I've seen, I've seen the vision. Obviously, you're in the middle of the of the demonstrations. You're reporting there for nine and you've been shot on your left leg. It looks like Lauren, Yeah, I cocked.
It on the rubber bullet to the calf muscle. I've got to say, I've been reporting on this situation in downtown l A all day. Now it's you know, it's now almost seven pm at night here and things have been relatively under control, and all of a sudden it just just ended and the situation really unraveled. We had police on horseback, white police just come charging through the city and protests erupt with anger. You can probably hear the bangs in the background. Now that's flash bang grenades.
They're still trying to disperse the crowd. That just feels like there is just so much anger right now.
So this is at the Metropolitan Detention Center where people have been detained after those early immigration raids, Laurenie. Is that the zone that you're reporting on at the moments?
Yeah, sure, that's where I began reporting today and police have slowly pushed people around the block. I can still see the backside of that detention center and that's where the National Guard had been stationed this morning. Those soldiers deployed by Donald Tchamp under that order that he put in place. There was at least a few hundred of them deployed so far to Los Angeles, but up to
two thousand the US President has ordered. And it is that rollout of federal soldiers on US soil that has just, I feel, really spiraled the situation here and just created so much more anger among Angelina's so.
Trump says it will be very strong law and order. But the crowd seems to be, if anything, increasing, Lauren.
More people are joining the protests rather than staying away.
Oh absolutely, I mean I am. Where I'm standing right now is on the edge of the one oh one Free Laid is a major road in Los Angeles. Half of this has been shut down because protesters have been on the road. There's probably one hundred right police in front of me, and still there are just hundreds of protesters around the street. I want to take you to the southern suburbs because we've had sewer mains bursting over the weekend and as recently being reported on South Terrace in South Fromantle. Dean Stacey is the manager of Media and External Affairs at Water Corporation. Dean, good morning, Good morning, Olie. Thanks having me on my pleasure.
Dean, come to the new one first. What's happening on South Terrace?
Yeah?
Sure, so.
Look, this is a symptom of the issues that we faced over the weekend with related bursts in Spearwood and also Beaconsfield issue in South Terrace. It's not what i'd call a burst, Olie. This is a small overflow from a manhole, but it is a result of white sport of banking up building up in the system due to the need to switch off some of those pumping stations to inhibit flows, particularly to that earlier leak on Friday in Spearwood.
So do we know what's caused that original legal Let's go to Spearwood there and obviously in Beaconsfield then.
Yeah sure so in Bearwood, crews today are working to remove that section of pipe that's failed and they'll inspect that and they'll get a better idea of exactly what has caused that issue later today. In Beaconsfield, as I mentioned, we needed to inhibit the flows to Spearwood. To do that, we had to turn off pump stations around the area. That caused, unfortunately, wastewater to bank up in the system with more volume in some of those pipes. That's what
caused the issue in Beaconsfield. But in some good news, we have managed to affect the repair in Beaconsfield overnight, so that's no longer flowing. We were able to stop any kind of overflows in Spearwood on Friday afternoon, so probreath is being made. Clean up operations are underway, and just like to say we really appreciate the patience of people in the surrounding area. While affect those repairs.
Is it actually filtered into people's homes dan.
So in spear Wood unfortunately, there were six properties that were affected, four of those which are the front yards and two of those were interior wastewater ingress. Our customer team is working really closely with those affected and we're providing as much support as we can to get those guys back to normal life.
Yeah, you must absolutely stink.
Yeah, and I think that it's really important to acknowledge the disruption to a lot of people this weekend OLI. It's not a pleasant situation at all. I think we can we can certainly understand and acknowledge people's frustration. Obviously, we unreservedly apologize. Look from time to time. Unfortunately, these issues do occur regardless of how much we invest in proactive maintenance, and that was around sixty eight million dollars
in the last financial year. Unfortunately, we can never guarantee against these sorts of issues. What's really important in these situations is how quickly we respond, how quickly we own the situation, and the support that we provide to our customers.
That's sixty eight million on proactive maintenance spent last financial year. Does that increase here on YIDINE or do you need to be doing more proactive maintenance the Water Corporation, Well.
Proactive maintenance is something that's really important. It's always on our radar. Unfortunately, we have had a couple of high profile births of lates. But I think it's really important only to also consider the wider wastewater network. We have seventeen thousand kilometers of wastewater mains across Wa thirty four
thousand kilometers of water mains. That's one of the largest water and wastewater networks anywhere in the world, and per one hundred kilometers of wastewater mains, Perth is actually one of the best performing cities in Australia in terms of the frequency of sewer main breaks.
You mentioned the high profile cases.
It's only a few months ago we had the Fatberg and the rac Arena Debarkle. Now you've got this obviously in Beaconsfield and Spearwood and now popping up in South Free Mainline. Know, it's all related, as you say, with this particular instance. So that's two big incidents.
Dean.
Is he something we're just going to have to get used to waking up to as the Pooh ending up back in our living rooms.
No, it's certainly not Bolly. And again I think it's really important to apologize to people that have been disrupted. Obviously, you know these think they don't happen all the time, but we have had some high profile issues lately. But that's probably going to be cold comfort to people that have been affected this weekend. And I'd also just like to thank some of those residents for some of the
messages of appreciation to our crews. Our crews have been out on the roads all weekends twenty four to seven trying to affect these repairs. The repairs are very complex, but people have been coming up to them and passing on their appreciation, which is it's something we also really appreciate.
Well, that's good. But what about the health implications?
Dan, Are there any warnings in place for people to either avoid particular areas.
I know you put out some advice saying.
That you shouldn't go fishing crabbing in the Swan River along Burke Street now for Cove due to an overflow reled to those issues. Is that still the advice, Yes, it is.
Oli that's still in place for that particular area around Alfred Cove, although that overflow has also stopped. Like I mentioned, flows have seats at both Hamilton Road and also sees the Street in Beaconsfield. The wastewater has receded, but there will still be some clean up that needs to happen at Bruce Lee Reserve in Beacon's Field and also some surrounding parklands there in Spear Would So we have security in place we have warning signage and barricades. We just
asked people to please avoid the areas. Crews are still working obviously, and if people do notice any more issues throughout the day, we just ask them to please contact our customer team on thirteen thirteen seventy five and if they clean.
Up cruise given any indication, it will be a business as usual. Dean, what are you anticipating, what are you hoping for?
Yeah, we're going to know more on that later today.
OI.
So, like I mentioned, we're able to affect the repair in Beacon's Field. The repair in spear Wood is decidedly more complex. We were hoping that we would be able to place a wrap around that first. Unfortunately it's not quite that simple, and we're going to need to fabricate a new section of pipeline and hopefully get that installed
later today. That'll allow us to turn on some of those pump stations that have been inhibited in the general area and hopefully get things back to normal asap, we hope.
So thanks you time this morning. Dean really appreciate it.
Thank you, Olie.
Thanks Oly He's the manager of Media and external Affairs the Water Corporation.
So that mammoth cleanup project is underway.
Sewage spewed onto the streets in our southern suburbs from those burst wastewater pipes. We got that report earlier today about a burst pipe in Fremantle and South Terrace and Dean saying it is related but different, so some repairs continue. Look, you might be in the area, you may have been affected by this. Does it reek? Does it absolutely stink? One double three, eight to eighty two And look, these are headlines we certainly do not want to be reading about.
And obviously we need some major repair and remediation works too. A number of our sewers within the Perth Water Corporations infrastructure and network. The fatburg at the Arena was just a few months ago, and now you've got this. And as we talk, you're being told to still avoid Bruce Lee Reserve areas around Hamilton Road including what Sonia Park, Dalmardia Park bordered by Yakus Chase Carbarney Parade, Nardilio Drive and warning signage. Security barricades are in place for your protection.
But when you get another warning here, it's telling you not to undertake any water recreational activities and it's a pretty nice day out there. Isn't it a little cold at sixteen degrees at eighteen past ten, But you might have enjoyed a little bit of time on the Swan River today. Just don't go fishing or crabbing along Burke Street now for Cove, because you want a bit of overflow a pooh in the water. Again related to those issues from Spearwood and Beaconsfield, now it's flowing onto South
Terrace in South Fremantle. Homes are not directly affected. However, residents may not as temporary odors while these crews continue to affect these for pairs duck, if you're in the area, has it affected you?
One double three eight to eighty two.
Rob makes the point that water corporation have been putting up there rates every other year, so they must have billions of dollars to spend. Where is the money the sixty eight million dollars. We're about to go through a state budgetary process in factory to Safioti.
You'll hand that down next Thursday.
So Simone McGirk, the Water Minister Ape, she's been knocking on her door and the water corporation saying this is what we need urgently help us out because this sounds awful again one double three eight eighty two On the yes no to Scott Morrison deserve his is ac now mark from Leaming says he should thank the Australian people for their consideration, but pass it to someone who is more deserving. There is more against him than there is for him even before he became Prime minister.
He does not deserve it.
In my opinion, one good deed does not wipe out three of calamity as prime minister even before he became it. Does anyone remember the robodet debarkle Well. I was quite scathing at Daniel Andrews and Martin McGown also receiving similar honors. I think that COVID years leave a pretty bad taste in most people's mouths.
And for their services through.
COVID, yes, they were going into things which they'd never thought that they had signed up to and making life changing and life saving decisions. But the politicization around that national cabinet and the way it wedged Australians against Australians has taken a lot of paint off the Australian's trust with their respective state and federal governments. One double three
eight point eighty two to cast your votes. Yes, he does deserve a medal and putting up with Malcolm Turmbul with all the lies that labor through him.
Tricia says he does deserve it. He did an amazing job.
He was vilified because of it, yet McGowan was revered. It doesn't make any sense at all. And then maybe they cancel each other out with this. Maybe we don't give it to any of them, the premiers or the former Prime Minister. Markrikin scomo leftus is one of the strongest economies in the world. Janet says yes. Samantha says yes, yes, Yes, he was a fantastic prime minister. He was the best. Kez says yes, Lena says absolutely yes. One double three
eight eighty two. Does Scott Morrison deserve his AC twenty four plus ten? It is oli for Bowie this Monday. Simon back with you from nine o'clock tomorrow. Karen says the Fatberg's a problem that Water Corp has to fix, but it's a problem that wa residents of cause by flashing items into the sewer system that shouldn't be there. We are told the three p's only not baby wipes and the other stuff. Here's a point to that too, Karen. Stop putting everything other than what you should. The three
p's three. You loo get a Mark.
Okay, Olie, how are you mate?
I'm all right, Mark.
I believe you live on one of those streets affected by this sewer main burst.
Yeah, we day.
Yeah, we're directly across the road from it, and you can't even walk outside, especially at dusk towards the end of the afternoon. I've got young family and we've actually moved. We're fortunate enough to have a family nearby, so we've moved. My wife and kids have actually had to.
Move down the road.
I stayed there last night in my house, but ended up I'll probably be leaving this afternoon because the smell of a night time in gressing into the house is just unlivable.
Oh yuck. I've seen some pitches, Mark, and it's pulled It looks like you've almost got a new creek in some of your yards.
Yeah, it's just pulled up there. We understand that there's a process they have to go through, but our concern is our kids play at that park every day with all their friends in the area.
While they say they're going to do a clean up.
I don't think a high pressure hose is going to be safe for our kids to go back into that park.
I'm under the belief it would need to be rebuilt.
So you go in the park, they play there, and whatever's in you know what's come back up.
It's a yeah, yeah, that that whole area.
It's just yeah.
And like we said, I understand as the process to go through, but the communication we've had to search for all that information ourselves has been No, there hasn't been an awful lot of communication back to us unless we've done the research and the phone calls ourselves.
So yeah, that's where where at.
The moment, lots of be desire. The Water Corp spokesman before was saying they've been knocking on doors, they got security in the area. Have you have you saved your eyeballed some cruise yourself mark.
Yeah, there's there is security there and there is Water Corp. No one's personally knocked on White or that I've been aware. But in saying that, we did vacate the house as much as we could over the weekend. But I mean they managed to send me a bill every month, so they've got my details all right.
Mark, we will will follow this one up with you because it doesn't sound good. And I've just got an email from Jeremy saying similar saying he's a resonance of carbne parading spear would witnessing first down the contamination of Dalmatia Park inundated with that raw sewage from Friday. It appears to be an environmental disaster and the health risks
to nearby residents are significant and immediates. The communication of this crisis has been extremely poor, so validating what Mark's just said, there many residents have received little to no guidance beyond the general advice to stay away from the affected areas are directed that offers no practical support to
people who live adjacent or within these zones. Last night, the stench of sewerage has been been unbearable even inside our home, particularly after yesterday's sunny where the local community pages are reporting the presence of toilet paper, sanitary products and other waste materials.
Strewn across the roads.
Thus far, the response from Water Corp appears limited to pumping out the affected parklands and covering areas with yellow sand.
This is an adequate solution.
Given the scalale of the spill and the associated public health risks, residents are understandably distressed. Many are being forced to consider alternative accommodation due to the unsafe and unsanitary conditions, not to mention the impact on the wildlife in the area.
Water corp and local agencies responsible should be giving clear and immediate public communication on the extent of this issue, a detailed remediation plan and time frame for full rectification, health and safety assessments and support for affected households, consideration for temporary relocation assistance for those who have been directly impacted.
The community needs urgent answers and decisive action to resolve this situation, and please continue to question the local regulatory bodies to prompt some urgent supports one double three O two. Thank you Mark, and thank you Jeremy for your email. JB from Queen Spark says it must be climate change. I'm being sarcastic about that. Regarding the serage, thank you jb. Ollie Scott Morrison deserves that title. Eddie says, so many
that dislike him don't seem to know why. They've been told by the media that Morrison is a bad man, and they just repeat that without further thoughts. Stephanie says absolutely successfully guided us through a crisis when nobody anywhere knew what to do, and Kylie says, I'm fed up generally with the number of people who receive and OA or similar as part of the work they do or they did in their paid employments. It has become a bit farcical, especially in the for service two accolades, when
that's what they were paid for. Unless the person achieved something unique and outstanding, it's just recognition for a job which has been well done. And Brad wants to know what the yes no votes up to eighty five yes, forty nine No. Does Scott Morrison deserve his ac You can share your thoughts with me one double three eight eighty two.
Good morning, Sydney.
Hey, how are you?
I'm all right? What's happening?
So my partner and I and a couple of friends were at the Crown on Saturday night for a wedding, had dinner at the ah Trim and then had to get some cash out for our hair and make up the next morning, and we thought going to their casino to get the money changed into different denominations and we get my partner and I get in the line and they say, oh, can you step aside please, you're under investigation. And my partner I looked at each other, going, turn, what's going on here?
Anyway?
They had my partner's ID and they took the supervisor came took a picture of his ID without like asking saying anything, which, in hindsight now we realized that we should have said, hey, you know, don't just take a photo. And then they said, yeah, you're under investigation. We need further detail. So I turned around and I said, well, what are we under investigation for? You know, can you
let us know what's going on? You know, we've never been in trouble with the police or anything like that before. And they said, oh no, can't, can't tell you anything. And then they asked who I was and I said, well, one his partner. So yeah, it was pretty humiliating, to be honest, because I sometimes think that they're a little bit you know, drunk with power, and they like to
sort of create a scene. I think some of those security that are standing at the door there and yeah, everyone was staring and yeah, they wouldn't they wouldn't let us in pretty.
Much, so they from the investigation Sydney or not.
Nope, we had no clue what's going on. All they've got is the photos of our driver's license and that's that's that.
Everyone has to show you their driver's license now, though don't they get it scanned as they go into the casinos. I don't think that's any different to anyone Sydney these days.
The supervisor I took a picture on his iPhone, so, which that's obviously out of the norm. Yeah, but yeah, so we're pretty I mean the next morning I didn't really know. I wanted to go and sort of speak to someone, but you don't really know who to approach who to approach there. But I just don't really think it's good enough.
To be honest, you maybe had a few too many drinks, didn't you. Were they trying to say you.
Weren't welcome, So we actually hadn't had anything to drink. We've been told, you know that we had to get up early the next day for the wedding, and so yeah, we weren't intoxicated, you know, weren't being rowdy. We were all dressed pretty nice.
So you don't know why you're under investigation. They didn't take it any further, But could you get back in there on the Sunday or you didn't try?
No, I didn't try. We said, look, can we just get in. We've just got to change money. We've got a wedding tomorrow. And then two of our friends had already gotten in and they said, I said, oh, can I get the cash to them? And they said, yes, as long as you don't cross this line. So yeah,
we don't know what the go is. And we were only there in December last year with our son and we just had him and we went there for my partner's birthday for lunch and you know, walked through the casino to get to the other side and you know, they hadn't picked up anything then and we haven't been to the casino since, so we don't know what's in the world it could be.
So maybe that was it. The fact that it was your son underage?
Was he Sydney?
Yeah, he was.
Okay, six weeks old. But I mean, why wouldn't they have let us through at the time, you know what I mean? Was they said, I he's too young.
Yeah, obviously, And maybe that's back on them because someone was meant to pick it up. They didn't, and you know, unfortunately, maybe with all that biometric technology these days, your faces are picked up and that may maybe that's why you're flagged. I don't know. I'm just spitballing with you for a moment, Sydney, and that's why somebody probably didn't do their job properly.
Or maybe because you've brought the you know, inadvertently brought your son through as you were walking through the casino floor and they're not allowed in there, so it might be back on their license, Sydney. It could be so something that you know, Crown could get shut down for letting underage people into the gaming area when they're not allowed to. But look, I'll hand you the producers in just a monk because I want to follow it up. But more importantly, how is the wedding on Sunday?
It was very very good. Now it turned out to be an amazing day. Or Iously, the sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky on Saturday, so it was yeah, it was an amazing It was an amazing day.
Oh that's good. I'm glad you had a good wedding. And you said what you see would you say you're six weeks old at the time you took him through, So your son's what almost six months old now?
Yeah? Six months now? Yeah, yep, having fun, Yeah, having fun. Yet he's a he's a little into everything, started crawling. But he's a gorgeous boy. I absolutely love him.
Oh it's wonderful, Hey, Sidney.
I'll hand you back to hand and say if you'll get some details off there and follow that up with those at Crown, just to try and get you some answers, because you'd obviously like to know what's happened there, and they'd probably like to know as well and to be able to clear up that situation. But I know nothing other than what you've just told me there the situation, and I would hazard a guess that it would have something to do with you walking your young six week
old through a matter of months ago. And sure that shouldn't prevent Sydney or a partner being able to get onto the casino floor, but it might within their systems. So let's try and get some answers for you off air, Sydney. I appreciate your call. It's twenty five to eleven. You're on Berth today. With Oliver Peterson filling in for Simon boyknots.
Reports of a truck losing its load powers a street eastbound entry to Mitchell Freeways southbound in Mount Hawthorne.
The right lane is affective.
Motors are able to maneuver around the incident at this time, but traffic as a result is slaw on approach. The Mitchell, Canana and Graham Farmer Freeways are all traveling nicely, the tunnel moving well in both directions, and nothing to report around the metro area. I'm sap Clark, Comperth's traffic leader six.
PR twenty two to eleven eighteen degrees in Perth right now we should get to a top of twenty two sometime this afternoon down to ten to night showers and twenty on the cards for your Tuesday.
In US just In.
Network ten has axed the Projects after sixteen years and almost four and a half thousand episodes. The last episode of the Projects will go to where on Friday, the twenty eighth of June. They say from Monday the thirtieth
June it must be the twenty seventh. Network ten will screen a new e early evening schedule comprising your ten years, first at five and new one hour national news, current affairs and insights program at six with name hosts and a further details still to be announced, and then at seven o'clock Deal or no deal moving from six to seven.
So that's the end of the run for the project, which is impressive.
Sixteen years on air, four and a half thousand odd episodes is quite an impressive run for the projects it did start out.
Remember news done differently?
It seemed to unravel a bit, didn't it from those early days when you had Charlie pickerin carry a bit more? I lost a fair bit of its punch. But that's a disappoint of the industry. A new show to put me put in its place. I've hit on the project a couple of times talking about issues out of here in Wa and we'll see what ten puts up. But are you a viewer of the project, are you sad to see it go? One?
Double three eight eighty two.
Chrissy's tried to ask what income the water Corporation receives from our water rates in total from Wa. Somehow it seems to never reveal, And I've always wondered why so much and for what last week. I tried to contact them, and after forty five minutes I simply had to give up one double three eight eighty two. And that's this morning. That free full time KINDI will be trialed in ten pilot locations across the state at a cost of thirty three point eight million dollars. This is to start in
twenty twenty six. Claire Orange is a child behavioral therapist and she joins me live on six PR this morning. H Are they're Claire Morning Holy ten pilot locations, So not for everyone, not compulsory, worth testing the waters.
Oh look, when we're moving forward with researching to children and learning and within metro and regional areas, what the differences in need are. Yeah, it's definitely worth testing, definitely worth testing.
Do you support the concept of free full time Kindy in general though, Claire.
No, no, no, not in six not in any way, shape or form. R you know, I think well, I think you know you would know Ali. With little children, the need for downtime, for rest, for free unstructured play, for quieter time with dialogue with an adult or siblings or a small group is really vital to their development from the first five to six years. Of life. And this is just another way that we're stealing childhood from
our children. That we've got children who are entering KINDI who are still three and will be three for half a year. That's three little trips around the sun, and we're going to put them in five days of full time education. I think we should be worried.
So they're just too young, Claire, They're not ready for this.
No, they're not ready. And I mean I've read all of the minister statements on school readiness, but really what I mean what is school readiness? What are we training? Readiness to sit at a desk, Readiness to listen to instruction. It's like you know, you and I practicing for the nursing home. Nursing home readiness means that we should put our diapers and I eat sloppy carrots. Now, there is no readiness training. You do it when you get there developmentally,
as do our children. We can't make them ready before they're ready. It's an illogical argument.
Is it going to be too much structure?
You worried a full time kindy for three year olds versus what is offered at daycare childcare centers. It's not the same Claire.
No, it's not the same and it's a different care environment. Childcare centers are very much set up around the daily need of the child, which includes toileting and feeding and socialization and that time. And now we're going to put that into the lap of teachers having very little children three year olds and four year olds for five full days in facilities that don't really lend themselves to the same sort of care that we would get in a childcare center.
The Early Childhood Minister Sabinah wins And said this morning it will provide parents and caregivers flexibility they need to engage with the workforce. We know that childly childhood education plays a critical role in getting children ready for school, setting them up for long term success, and that's why free full time kindy is some important.
So if it is offered as.
More of the daycare childcare clare, could it work.
It's going to work because that's where we're going. That is going to be the need. But I think what we've forgotten in all of this is that there's a child at the center with a developmental need. Their need for play is absolutely vital. We've seen that come out in the research only so the minister can talk about readiness. That argument is completely flawed from beginning to end. We
can't get a told ready for something. They are either developmentally there or they not, So that argument just doesn't hold any water. And yes, it is useful for families, and we are going to reduce the cost of childcare, but at what cost to our little children and their development and the development of their social, emotional and learning skills.
It's concerning the thirty three point eight million dollar question is where are the extra teachers going to be hired from Claire. We already have a childcare shortage, We already have a teacher shortage. And the last time I checked even graduations from year twelve and the ATAR only fifty percent of WA students sit at versus about two thirds
of students in the other states. I'm not saying the ATAR is the bill and the end all, but we certainly have some challenges within the school curriculum and structure that exists at the moments.
Yeah, we do, we do, and we're asking teachers to work beyond the scope of educators. They are not educators for child early learning centers. They are early years educators and they are going to be asked to do tasks that are well beyond what we're asking training our educators to do. So all the way through we're going to run into problems with a number of educators and the right trainings for educators to hold little people for five days in a school environment, not in a childcare environment.
Claire, thanks for your time this morning.
Appreciate it.
You're welcome.
Child behavioral therapist Claire I Orange not a huge fan of the idea of free full time KINDI. It is going to be something that can be often contrialed at the moment at ten different locations. It isn't for everybody, so it will be voluntary, not compulsory. Her concerns around the developments of a child and readiness. They're not quite ready for full time kindy at the age of three. She's not convinced that this is a good thing.
What do you believe?
One double three eighty two. Claire of Jodle Up sees full time kindi oli the government is struggling to get teachers at the moments. Where are all the teachers going to be coming from? This is just rubbish thought bubble politics. I still think there needs to be some sort of reform when we talk about childcare being that instead of the whole sector being early education because we have primary, secondary, tertiary education. I think we need to look at it
through the lens of early education. But maybe there is some sort of middle ground that we could have in regards to not having that school structure but maybe having that more daycare childcare environments. I'm glad that they were pulled up actions and got some consequences, says Terry of Nedlands, and Jennifer says it's a big yes for me. I support Scott Morrison one hundred percent, but she'd only just been elected as the PM.
He had to deal with the COVID virus.
He did a wonderful job keeping our country safe and I wish he was still our prime minister. Great hearing you on air this morning, Oli, Thank you, Jen. Nice to be here filling in from a good mate Simon. He'll be back with you Bowie tomorrow morning at nine o'clock. But does Scott Morrison deserve his ac The yes is at ninety one the nose of fifty and three year old kindy compulsory, voluntary.
Not worth it.
If you got a view, pick up the phone have you say love to hear your voice on Perth Today three.
Eight eighty two.
It is twelve to eleven, Gibbo says, get A Ali loved the projects, so I'm sad to hear it's going. That's sad for you, Gibbo. Brendan says teacher quality matters aside. What's the difference between school kindy and childcare kindy? Because my three year old is full time in childcare Kenny and absolutely thrives and loves it. And that's what I was wondering, Brendan, what is going to be the difference between childcare kindy and school KNDy? Will it be the same?
Is that what will be offered to people? J says Ikeon three is too young for full time kindy. They're already starting younger finishing later in school these days compared to when I started school in the mid eighties. We need to let kids be kids for a little while at least, and I think Jay everybody would like to be able to do that. But it does give families choices and options, and unfortunately that is what society is and needs to be these days. Mum and Dad both
need to go to work. One double three eight eighty two. Should we add the tree canopy heat to our least of essential infrastructure. Should we be rethinking our state canopy strategy will face more health problems. That's an argument Paul Barber wants to wage. He's the president of trillion Trees. Good morning, morning, Olie.
How are you.
I'm good, Paul.
Our tree canopy's gone the wrong way unfortunately in Wa.
Absolutely.
I mean the recent figures released by the state government say that it's increased by one percent in the last four years. It's been a long time since data's been actually released, but there's been a change to the methodology. So we've got sixteen percent back in twenty twenty, that's jumped to twenty one and then there's been this one percent increase according to the state government, which I don't think really we have the full story. There's a bit of a lack of transparency there, so.
Where's some of the gray area, or even in that transparency, they're now counting things they did in before.
It appears so so they've included some additional areas areas like rural water and other infrastructure. Those areas seem to me like they're not really urban it's hard to get the full picture, but if you're including those areas then they're likely to be increasing in canopy themselves outside the urban area, which is offsetting the real loss that's particularly on private land in urban area.
It is bonkers because you know, summer gets regularly over forty degrees, tree can it be? Keeps you cool and you just want to be planning trees, Paul.
It's particularly evident in Perth. I mean, I came here just over twenty years ago from an Albourne. It really strikes. It's a beautiful city. I love it. I've got no attempts to going back. But it's dry, it's hot, it's hard to grow trees, so we really need to be looking after the existing canopy wherever we can. It has a massive impact on the health and well being of the people that live in our city. So it really does.
But we're actually seeing some areas where the canopy is actually decreasing.
Absolutely So if you look at those figures in the dashboard, yeah, it looks like there's some pretty stark losses in areas like Cotter's Low according to that data. I'm not sure the data is really accurate, but yeah, there seems to be big losses, and we work with a lot and talk to a lot of local governments in particular, not only here, a bit over east too, and the big
losses are occurring on private lands. A lot of the local governments are doing a really good job of planting lots of trees and caring for the trees they can on public land, but they're losing the battle, you know, they're pretty much stagnant. They're either going backwards or staying the same because of the losses on private land in particular,
they have no control over that. And the local government people working within local government, they're incredibly frustrated and there's a lot of despair in those agencies.
So how can we have a better approach to all of this poll.
Look, I mean, let's start with releasing data timely data, so it shouldn't take four years to get data out. There's something wrong in there. If you look at the new South Wales government in particularly, they're releasing data within six months. So we need current data. A lot happens in four years. Look at what's happened with Polyfager Shot Old Bora, so we need to know what's going on straight away. So we can act on it. We need
those figures to be publicly available and transparent. Again, in New South Wales government they release figures for rural and urban areas by local government areas and they're really public and transparent about it. So we need to see the data on what's going on.
Yeah, let's go on an infrastructure plan that obviously incorporates I mean, you see a lot of the new housing developments, Paul in our suburbs that were built, you know, twenty years ago when you moved here from Victoria, and you can barely see any greenery whatsoever. Nothing seems to have been planted, which again is bonkers.
Oh it is crazy. You think about areas across Perth that used to be pine plantations. I mean the area I live in pine plantation. It was planted with cocus palms and not much else with no canopy, and those areas around an incredible amount of pressure. So we just need to change the way we're doing things. You can't blame mom and dad for wanting to subdivide their lots, yeah, I mean, you know, you can't blame them, but there needs to be more protection for private trees, particularly mature
private trees. On private land. It's really critical.
How would you do that, Paul? How would you have greater protection for those mature private trees that they just got to stay there, they can't be cut down?
Oh look, I mean I think councils like Nedlands and South Perth put forward some proposals for amendments, but to things like planning schemes. Last year they got knocked back by the minister and basically quite light protections. You know, trees over a certain size at certain heights on particular ar codes.
We should be looking.
To protect them wherever we can. It's really critical. And there's not enough space to plant trees on new developments as well, which is crazy.
It is well open up the phone lines, preciate your time.
He's the president of trillion Trees one double three A dotty two sh Will we be adding tree canopy to our least of essential infrastructure and a rethink of the canopy strategy otherwise we might face more health problems, Ollie. Keep them where we're building you homes, keeps the native birds around, good for the environment. Shade, shade, shade, god of you call me one double three eight eighty two.
Nix is great stuff.
Having trillion trees on oli tree shade cool attracts rainfall, keeps the soil together. Funny how WA is going the other way with the reduction in urban trees and state forests thanks to trillion superb organization.
God, if you call me one double three.
Eight eighty two, Will Scofield joins us after the news it's eleven o'clock one day only hit all one o'clock if you'd like to join us. Sport with Scoe about a kick off one double three, eight eighty two. Michael suggests Paul concentrates on the Solace and Treeler suburbs that I mentioned, not South Perth and Cots, the new and
some old subdivisions of the real problem is there. He is absolutely bereft of trees, and I've been handed by a Western suburbs council about tree can it be despite having extensive trees on my block, they simply want more to tick their boxes. Get serious. Put some onus on land developers and the real problem suburbs. Murray saying housing is already under pressure. Stopping someone subdividing a block because
the trees would be crazy. The development of open spaces for tree can it be should be a priority for government and councils, not private property owners. We keep having children, we need to keep building houses and our yes no this Monday to Scott Morrison deserve his ac The yeses with ninety six the nose of fifty one. Cast your votes one, double, three, eight eighty two.
And now a man who debuted in the AFL at the age of eighteen played fourteen seasons at one club Premiership player will Scofields.
You wouldn't know it because we've got that board out there, haven't we. Scoy We had to triumph handball the ball through the circle and you didn't do very well. Good morning.
Well, I was just about to say it was very nice.
Usually I come in here and Bowie's got some sort of sledge lined up for me and it's just a nice intro.
And then you've done that.
What would you do that for?
How many?
How many chances did you just have?
Ten?
So there's a new six PR handball called target target. I'm asking you, an RL fan, what would I know?
Sledge handball target out?
Yeah?
Yeah, And I was excited.
I'm playing a game in about five weeks I got I got two out of ten I thought my left and I've got the last on my left and my right. I feel like if I went out there again, now you get ten.
I think I think Carl took Carl three attempts this morning. Do you know what I hit?
I missed the board entirely?
Did you?
Yeah?
Yeah, you've Tony Jones? It Jones, don't even it's not even slight surprising here that you did that. Did you try and do.
A nice little flick past Let's go to rugby league style and do it? And guess I failed on that too? Absolutely hopeless, absolutely hopeless.
Sorry, So what's what's You're not Simon Bow No, I'm not Simon Bomont.
Okay, that's right.
You're the new sponsor of this show, Simon Beaumont, brought to you by.
Yeah, that's right. He'll be back tomorrow, don't you know about that? Just did you see him in hands Over yesterday?
No?
I didn't. Was he there was on the hill?
Was he Adam Papal six prs, great commentator, the mayor of the sound air of Bustleton. He was in Bumbry on the hill.
I believe MJ wants to know seeing you on the boundary in the background via the TV feed, where you're resting your eyes or did you fall asleep during the first half? Should we start with this game? I mean, let's start with the game. We'll come back to the round recap in a moment, but let's start with the game.
MJ So, I just caught the lift up here with Glenn Jakovic and I said, mate, how did you enjoy that?
I believe it was on the coverage.
Jacko said, in nineteen years of doing special comments, this is the worst game he's ever called. I was working with our friends over at Fox Footy and doing the boundary there and I agree wholeheartedly. The first five to ten minutes, I reckon both sides.
This isn't a North Melbourne thing.
This is both sides missed fundamental skills like I've never seen in a game before, like.
Handballs to a play the target out here. I was handballing better right. It was really poor and that's how the game started.
You know, towards the middle of the third quarter, West Coast had kicked one goal though one goal fourteen at one stage. It was pretty grim and that was disappointing for the people of Bumbury because you know if I start on a positive with them, what the hands over put on down there at the South West Footy leg.
It was brilliant.
There was sixteen seventeen thousand people down, every seat in every stand taken. The hill was packed, there was people in. I was right in front of the President's function down there for North Melbourne. They're having a great time. The atmosphere was brilliant. The footy was terrible, like just terrible.
Well this is what the six p old call team made of it. Ever listen, Yeah, I'll.
Tell you my mum is recording this game. As you said, I'll watch it. I'm going to get back Versus in Dunsbury with me to and i'mna say, mum, what if you do, Please do not watch a replay of this game.
You're going to wat three hours of your life. It's hard to dress up shit, though, isn't it. As the footy goes down towards the.
Wing, I've chosen a slightly more delicate we's only a four letter word skate, he's gone longer.
That's a terrible, horrible kick.
That's disgraceful.
I've been commentating for twenty years. This is the worst game I've ever been involved in it as a special comments and with six hour commentary team. This is the worst game ever. Why is that picture perfect conditions? Have a look, there's no breeze out there at all, there's no clouds, hardly a thing win.
That's a bowling green.
And we've got four goals and half a footy West Coast. I've had thirty nine inside fifties.
For one goal.
North Melbourne that quarter kicked the point with beautiful conditions.
They kicked the point.
It's been seven eight versts. Eh did I say more?
Proving very very difficult to polisher turn? Oh, car went with it again.
It did change the words slightly.
Oh, it was laughing a lot then that was very good.
Yeah.
Is it how you feel? That's how you felt?
Oh?
Mate?
Like there was so like some stats.
Halfway through that second quarter West Coast had have something like thirty three inside fifties if they hadn't kicked the goal that for the first half that quarter they didn't kicked one. But if they didn't in the history of the game of a not since stats are taken, but in the history of AFL, it would have been the most inside fifties for not scoring a goal. Ever, Ever, they did some things right West Coast. They had good pressure.
They had fourteen inside fifty tackles for the first quarter, which was the most in ten years, to put that in context against you along the week before they had four total for the game. So they're putting a lot of pressure on. But the inability to kick a score, which is literally the fundamental reason why you play football. Let's kick goals, they just couldn't do it.
One double three attity two.
Did you head to the game yesterday in Bunbrie and Scuy Is this just the dipths of the spear now? Is this as bad as it gets?
Well?
Yeah, I want to hear from people who were there, Oli, so you're right one double threetity too, give us a call a few I want to know if I you know, maybe the summer just in my eyes and burning my forehead a little bit too much. A little read today absolutely scorched more than the ground. But interestingly enough, just on North Melbourne side of things, yes, Oly, So there's been a fair bit of criticism for them from certain
parts at and Papaleira I'm talking about you. Not happy about a side selling their home games to here in Western Australia because ultimately, if you don't win, you've basically sold four points.
Really, but they win, it doesn't matter how they won. They won.
They only needed to win one game over here for this whole experiment to be worth it because they've paid a stackload of money to be here, both by the AFL and I think there's a little bit of maybe the WA government getting involved as well.
Well.
They won one.
Four points is theirs and it's completely worth it, like the twelve months they put into it. This twelve months, it's all worth It doesn't matter what happened against Freo now. So I think from North Melbourne side of things, I think it's been brilliant. You can't actually describe it as anything else other than brilliant because they've made money, they've won a game that they may not have won anywhere else and they get to laugh their way off back to the East Coast after the Frio game.
Sarah, good morning, good morning.
I just make you laugh a bit more.
My grandson asked his grandfather three times while he was playing down at Lake Manga yesterday.
No nor no, can't be. The squad's too low.
They come to me to check and then.
After goes can't be right.
I kicked eleven myself when I was kid.
I'll tell you what the odds kickers would have put on a better show. I've seen better performances from an OZ kick team. And that is about both sides. Like North Melbourne were terrible, my day were terrible and West Coast were terrible.
Spoken to a few West Coast fans.
This morning and not happy, No, not at all, not happy at all with the results, with the way they played and losing again a game that you shouldn't have lost, West Coast.
Fans, then's at the hard one to cop the ones that you should be winning. Because Paul sees was it a game just for draft picks because neither actually wanted to win it.
Yeah, maybe the game you probably got, you got picked one, pick two, pick three, you'll have. You'll have a couple of those West Coast if anyone leaves your football club at the end of the year as well. So I don't think, I don't know. I think you just honestly, you need to play. You need to focus on playing good foot. I don't know how that was just so poor. I actually don't know how I've never seen anything like it.
Graham, good morning, Yeah my hair gown. We going with reckon?
I reckon that they should have to play it. They should have to watch the game twice in a row, fantasting, they should be forced to watch it twice.
So Graham wants the Monday Morning Review just to watch the game.
And that's punishment enough.
You what else it should be that you and jacko I have to watch it again yourselves and provide special comments.
Again, Why am I getting punished?
Well?
Why not?
Because if they've got to go and watch it again, the players, you should have to watch it with them.
Why I'm just I'm one of my own business. Isn't it my fault. I've already given my fifteen years to the game.
I've made.
My skills are fine, I've played it in you know, I've received a wooden spoon. I don't like saying if won a wooden spoon, I woulden Spell played some really bad games at footy. But I think both sides, you know, there's been overall disappointed with their fundamental skills of the game, like.
It's all good to lose.
The West Coast lostage along the week before Oscar Allen was very good, Harley Reid was very good, and they cup and.
Dished out out.
I think it's almost borderline disrespectful to fans.
Well, the difficulty is regardless of the depths of the spear as we spoke of before, or the rebuild, or however long West Coast is going to be in this situation when it's second last and last playing each other and they dish that up, you start to struggle. As some fans have said, for hope to get out of the pit, you expect at least two sides who aren't very good can at least put on a bit of a show. Because they're not very good. They're just not very good, and they're not going to be very good.
Well, I do, I do want to know what the fans think, because one double three eighty two. I want to know if you have hope out of that. But one thing that I've woken up this morning and not realize but certainly haven't given enough credit to that was last versus second last. We shouldn't have been expecting a good game of football, should we. I mean, the worst two sides in the competition. So I don't think that was ever going to be good. We just didn't think it was going to be that bad.
Well come back and take more of your call Sport with will Scofield on Perth today eighteen past eleven. It's only in for Bowie this Monday and will Scofield he's talking sport.
Lamb has called through Good morning, good.
More than my lovely show on your Lamb. I'm just going to say, is the mad Eagles fan and supporter. The only thing I'm expecting for the next five years is five wooden spoons. I'm I'm happy with that.
Is that right? You're happy with wooden spoons? Layer?
Oh?
Why not?
Mate?
We're going to rebuild somehow and we may as well get the best picks while we're doing it. So yeah, and what else we're going to do in between that time?
I don't hate that what younger players here starting to you know, I think there's some green shoots there. Who are you actually liking? From West Coast? From a younger, younger player pointing for you.
They're all getting a bit of a chance. Mate.
I'm not going to single out any of them because you know what happens when you do single them out. But look, I just yeah, rebuilding is a good thing, so it's it's not all bad mate. We're not really going to win any games, so let's just go to the wooden spoon anyway.
Yeah, I think that's that's probably fair enough. I'll old single one out for you. Elijah Hewitt's foot he has, I think sort of he's staying a mature a little bit. He had the most contested possessions in his career yesterday he had twenty two and finished with a goal. I think he's starting to just get a few k's under his legs. He's missed a lot of footy with injury. So Elijah Hewitt, you know, I think absolute gone. I think Brady hoff A is a midfielder looks very good too.
So he was not too far away from home, giving his from Harvey Brunswick sort of area, so he was probably half an hour.
Up the road, which was good for him.
He played played well and I think they need to just keep getting games into the kids. But you, as a player, you need to put it on yourself to drive standards. You can't just expect that someone's going to do it for you. So they will very quickly have to get a lot better than what we just.
Saw Marcia wants you to explain why Tim Kelly is getting a game. They don't give Clay Hall a game, put him in for the remainder of the season. Doesn't look like Liam Ryan is fit. He looked like a spectator. Why have a bring him on with five and to go? It's bad coaching from her point of view, they could have put him in the middle and have some fresh leagues.
Okay, So answer all those I think lamb Ryan. I actually think he's the fittest he's been. He might have just been well held on the weekend. I don't think they put him through the midfield like they have been doing so. I actually think Liamb's been pretty good this year for West Coast. Bo Allen as the sub, I don't agree with your text to there. I don't understand he came on with four minutes ago. I didn't have
a touch. He was on there for four minutes. They looked fatigue starting the last quarter, So why you're not why? I don't know why you're having a sub and then leaving him there whether they thought the team was getting it done or didn't have someone to replace with.
And what was the third third player?
The last comment from Marciel was Clay Hall.
Clay Hall, So Clay Hall, who's a local. I pretty sure he's a south bumray Boy a mistake. Apologies if that's a mistaken Yep. He's had close to thirty touches in the waffle for almost a month now. I don't know the comment was around Tim Kelly. I think they're playing Tim Kelly in like a high half forward role. Basically, they're not playing him on ballard. They're giving him a chance to move up and down the ground. I would keep doing it that. You can't not play any of
your senior players because you're not happy with them. I've heard different murmurings around different people, but you need to find the balance.
Still, you can't just play the kids. That never works for anyone.
Rob and Bryan both pointing out the problem is when you've got more sides in the comp quality of players gets diluted. With a nineteenth team. Should they be rethinking those things going.
No, I don't think so.
I think, you know, adding more teams to competitions just the natural progression. I think all leagues around the world and here in Australia do it. So there's always the same arguments. There's always the fears around and not having enough quality. The nine eighth team will happen in tazzy like just you know, the absolute kerfuffle last week with the Tasmanian government. It's just a political story, to be honest, it's nothing to do with footy.
That'll happen.
Everyone's posturing and trying to make themselves sound important, more important than they are. They'll make the stadium, they'll put their money there. It might be a bit delay, but they'll get that team. I mean, the one thing that Bumbury showed yesterday was there's a serious appetite for footy in the Southwest, so I would start looking towards the twentieth team and that then putting their hands seriously out
for it. Whether it's Bumbriy or Bustleton. Southwest footy I think as a massive future.
You get on board and you enjoyed it being there at hands.
Over, absolutely loved it.
One double three A diedy two.
To talk to Scoey today out of the round to date, Scoey, what tickled your fancy a court defeating the Giants? Was Adelaide becoming the real deal?
Yeah?
I look, you know going through most of the games. Hawthorne's win was big. They've got a big month of footy coming up. They started with Brisbane last week they were poor. They got the bounce backets whether or not they can continue that run on I think they do and they go towards the top four.
Adelaide's win against Brisbane was massive Friday night.
We called that here on six PR They withheld absolute onslaught from Brisbane, laid and Jordan Dawson what he did for that footy club. He's the best trade of all time. There's never been a better trade. Gary Ablett's Gold Coast Significant Browno Medal. He did that at Gold Coast Jordan Dawson to get him from Sydney to Adelaide for a first round pick and within twelve months to be captain of that club and now to be probably the top
five midfielders in the competition. And what he did in that game, he single handedly won that game for Adelaide. Best trade in the history of trades. I know there's been some good ones, but he's the very best GWS and no good off the back of that Port Adelaide game, So that disappoints me. Given I'm a pseudo Giants fan. Geelong absolutely dominated Gold Coast at home, which we kind of expected. But Damien Harwick and his coaching crew have
got themselves to look at for that one. They let their two best players in Tom Stewart and Max Holmes run rampant Homes had forty touches. Tom Stewart had fourteen marks, so I can almost categorically guarantee you Oli Pederson if you played Gilo and Max Holmes has forty with no Ballely Smith in the side, which I'll.
Come back on. I got an interesting little one there.
And Tom Stewart has four day marks. You will never You'll never beat Geelong. Did you see Bailey Smith has had a visit a fireside visit, albeit from Andrew Dillon, the CEO of the a f L, alongside Chris Scott, Andrew Mackie and Stephen Hawking, who's the CEO Footy and the coach of Geelong.
House didn't have you?
Have you in your sporting knowledge ever heard anything like that happening the CEO of the league, with the CEO of the club and the coats. Why is Andrew what's happening there? And then he was out he was laid out with a hammy from that game. I thought that was bizarre. It can't have been that secred either. So someone's got loose lips.
There, gas fire, wood fire.
Look, I don't know how long we've got to get into that, OLLI but you hope you'd hope a wood fire.
Wouldn't you You'd hope. So Tim Kelly should have been subrecans least at half time bow Allen brought into the game. Tim Kelly is no help to that team with the younger players at the moments and Paris strickens the Eagles need eighteen subs.
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if that would fly with Andrew Dillon, but he's obviously got other issues around other than.
The sub rule.
But yeah, I would keep playing Tim Kelly. I don't see the argument of not playing him. He may not be in an amazing form, but he's playing a role that you know, if you put Clay Hall there, he put bo Allen there, they're probably going to struggle just as much. He's not playing inside mid. So I know Tim Kelly is a favorite of Eagles fans to kind of bash on.
I think he's doing pretty.
Well let's do you Yes?
No, if he got one, yep? Okay, so how this works?
Yes, rapid fire?
Yes?
No, yes, no, only.
Here we go. The hands over match was West Coast game to lose. Yes, the Eagles can't sink any lower. No, the Dockers can't afford cozy picketm.
No.
Twenty twenty six will be sixty years since it Kilda's first and only premiership.
It'll be another sixty years before they see one again.
Oh poor and kill Yes or no, No, they're going to win one.
Surely Canberra is too cold for night fixtures.
No, put a long sleeve.
One acts like Sam Durham's front of bomb on Adam Charah no longer has a place in the game.
Uh well, yes, yeah.
Yes, no, I just stop. I'm giving you this.
Yes, no, no, I don't care. Yes, no, it's Bowie's game. Fourteen minutes is too long before a player has a concussion assessment. Yes, Carlton's win over Essendon was as bad of a win as you could get.
No, we just saw not helping to it.
And the D's are a chance for today's big freeze match.
No, absolutely not, No, but I am looking forward to that big Freeze match, Olie.
I think what.
Neil Danaher has done, you know, not not just you know, raising money for a disease that really had no funding before that, M and D. And the fact that he has it, the fact that he's put himself before sorry he's put anyone else before himself, but the the the ability to do that in terms of thinking of other people in the position that he's been in, Like, it's absolutely incredible and it couldn't be a better recipient of the Australian of the Year.
Like accept the long winded answer for the last question because it's I it's the big Freeze. But otherwise if you're skating on thin ice with you yes now answers.
Today, Look, I take a liberty here or there.
You have you know, Bowie's not here, So you just think you can just stretch these things out.
I do. I just I just think.
I just think sometimes listening on radio, if I'm just saying yes, I know, it's not as entertaining as perhaps just a little bit of long.
Window at the end of it.
Scoey Love your workers. Always look forward to hearing on why World of Sports this week, look forward to hearing you on commentary this week and look for just seeing you catch up with Simon Baumont this time next week.
Correct.
Can I go and do the handball games again on the way out or is it again?
You can if you get it in in one. Everything has just been clean cleaned up. I'll come and watch you do it. Okay, great ego, Will Schofield, thank you. It's about twenty eight to twelve.
Clearing up in the majors now. Nothing to report on the Mitchell, Quanana and Graham Farmer Freeways. They are all traveling smoothly, although still dealing with this truck with its lost load. Powers Street eastbound entry to Mitchell Freeway south bound. It's closed down Mount Hawthorne. The instant response team are on side. Traffic is heavy on approach seeking an alternative route and a truck breakdown. Mitchell Freeway south band at Graham Farmer Freeway in West Perth. The mechanic is on
site there. Traffic is somewhat sign approach, I'm said Clark on Perth Traffic Leader six PR.
Twenty five to twelve. It's Ollie in for Bowie this some Monday mo. Simon back with you from nine o'clock tomorrow if you'd like to join us, phone lines open one double three eight eighty two. The yes no is does Scott Morrison deserve He's AC for his leadership through COVID one double three eight eighty two. The yes is in the leader at the moment at ninety seven the
nose with fifty one doers Scott Morrison deserve. He is AC In today's King's Birthday Honors and speaking of public holidays, the Premier Roger Cook says he's open to the idea of another public holiday for WA and wants to line them up better with the Eastern States. Jake Batrick is six PR's chief of News. The con himself and he joins me in the studio. Is Jake, welcome back.
Thanks, Oliver nearly called you Bowie.
Silly idea.
That's all right, I call Millsey Bowie this morning in our you get to retroduce himself.
Everybody's all over the shop. I've been away for a week. I've been up to x Mouth.
Did you swim with the whale sharks? Didn't swim?
Of the whale sharks and some reef sharks and some turtles and a million fish. And it was tremendous. The Ningly Reef is the best place in the world. It is, absolutely it is outstanding.
Did you take your new new Ish motor vehicle for a drive there when you.
Catch a tar plane? No, we drove up on the.
Electric charging stations on the journey.
No, I don't have one of those years.
No, it's a diesel. I think that price of diesel.
Was pretty expensive to someone that's only less than twelve months into the diesel market, particularly an x Mount.
Yeah, it would be.
I don't know how people travel around Australia with the cost of diesel.
That's how they go EV, Jake, and that's what you should have done.
I saw one charge it off, saw one lonely EV charging station in that stretch between Coral Bay and x Mouth. Yes, there's literally nothing. There's a bench there for.
You to sit on wait four hours, lots of people around it. It was jam packed.
He was jam packedor at Whalebone Brewing on Friday night live music, pizza's pumping out of the pizza oven, beers flowing. It was jam packed and the beaches were jam packed as well. Obviously the long weekend last Monday, Yes, so it was. It was very busy, great vibes. Only the one washout.
Which was good was the Tuesday.
It was very wet down here and we did get a bit of the wet stuff up there as well.
So Roger Cook has just been re elected or elected really for the first time in his own writers the premieer of Western Australia. Of course, he inherited the government from Martin McGowan midway through the last term. But I think he's trying to cement himself as Western Australia's premiere for the for the next dozen years because he is promising to look at giving us an extra public holiday every single year.
Jake, exactly right, he's looking to he's the premier set today that his government is currently working on overhauling our public holidays. So he wants us to be better aligned with the Eastern States. As we know, it's the King's birthday over there everywhere except Wa and Queensland today. He wants there to be better alignment.
So what is King Charles's actual birthday?
Jake, that's a great trick question. Fourteenth of November.
Correct, We don't even celebrate it on the Ford. Our public holiday is early.
Now, correct? Yeah, No, but the King's birthday in wa is in October. Yeahs October. Is it's at the Royal Show. That's at the Royal Show. Yes, yeah, early October.
Monday, the twenty nine of September.
There you go, There you go. So I think Queensland might be early October for whatever reason. Anyway, for productivity reasons. He wants us to be better aligned. So going forward, and he flagged today we'll hear in a minute twenty twenty seven this could all be implemented. So from twenty twenty seven we could be well not asked, but everybody else could be off today for the King's birthday holiday.
But he also threw out we could be getting another public holiday because we have the least amount of public holidays in Australia. So got me thinking, what are we going to celebrate?
One? Double three etuty two. Put your thinking caps on. Let's be creative. If we were to have another public holiday, what are we celebrating? You said, twenty twenty seven, Jake might be the year that this happens as Overhauls become the Bears. That's when the Perth Bears kick off in twenty twenty seven.
So it's bears Day.
Bears Day, there's a bear in there, bears Day.
What do you reckon that's goingt a ring to it?
One?
Double three eight huty two. Let's get creative with this and you could be named our caller of the day. What would you like to celebrate with another public holiday? We've got two tickets to Blowing in the Winds. Maybe it's bears Day, Blowing in the Winds playing the tribute to Bob Dylan in the era of indie folkken masterfl songwriting. So bears Day is what I'm nominating. Have you got anything for us, Jake.
Given I've been in Exmouth, maybe Ningloo Day.
So we all just go to Ningolo Reeth. We all head up there to Whalebone Brewing.
Get in the back of you, you drive us all out.
I'll take us up there on He's what the premiers had to say about overhauling the public holidays.
Hunters are often to remind me we have fewer public holidays than they do on the East Coast. I take that on board, but I do want to see better alignment between our public holiday system and that which it exists in the other states. We're part of a national economy and we should be working together much better to ensure better alignment around these days.
So are you exploring another public holiday on WIST.
Well, I'm reviewing the whole range of public holidays we have in Western Australia where they land to make sure that we've got better alignment and that they work better for the WA community. Well, at the moment, we celebrate WA Day in the middle of winter, but we celebrate it in the spring when we know the weather will be better, for instance. I think that gives us some pointers as to maybe some of the ways that we
could align things. Why is it that we had a public holiday last weekend but not this weekend when they have a public holiday on the East coast. It's just I think we need to look at to see if there's extra elements of productivity which can be added into the process.
So while he's at it, though, the Premiere, get the other Premiers in chief ministers together, like everybody look at the calendars in a line up where you can, because it's a really good point. Now, my wife used to work at a logistics company where a day like today, no freight's coming across the border because they've all got a public holiday, so everybody sort of stands around, doesn't do much. Tomorrow they have to put double the number
of staff on to move everything. Then last Monday they obviously weren't moving anything out of wa On the Tuesday, same thing in undated with stuff. So it is a little bit backward thinking in some regards if you're talking about increasing productivity, but you start being in tucking with what the public holidays are for or their meaning might lose that recognition of what the day is about.
Jake, it could do. But I also say it just makes sense. It makes sense. I mean, what if you're working somewhere that you're a national company. You know, you rock up to work today here in Perth ready for a leadership eating or whatever it might be, and nobody else jumps on the call because they're on public on leave.
Yeah, that's right. And then you met to judge jump on the one last Monday when the rest of the people were on. Nick said he'd like Christmas in July because he's a big fan of Turkey. Two Christmases. You can't have to christn't do you call it something else? Yeah, like Christmas in July? Yeah him by Turkey. Any day.
Turkey's overrated.
Just while we're on to stop that, he's not. You just got to make sure you have a moist turkey. Yeah, correct, but still do it in a bag. Very hard to do. Turkey in a bag works well, I don't know if it does.
Christmas Ham every day?
Good morning? What should we do extra public holiday? What would you acknowledge?
Hello?
Lo, Tim?
What would you do?
I reckon we should just shift the King's birthday to when it is so I think it's support them.
Correct, So maybe the week of the King's birthday we should have theblic service.
Then okay, and then we get to add another public holiday. Tim, would you what would you like to acknowledge Bear's Day because it's twenty twenty seven, or have you got another thing you'd like to acknowledge?
Maybe even your birthday?
Tim, that's a good idea. See, I realized that this is not the segment for it because it's on a Friday at four o'clock the pub test. But taking a day off your birthday? Do you subscribe to that stuff?
Jake?
Absolutely, one day of the year where it's all me, me me, Nick Alviani, every day is me me Me day.
Okay, Glenn says, additional public holiday should be a rule has been removed day. Too many rules mandate at least one to be rescinded, so it's like Liberation Day.
Yeah.
The other interesting point that Roger cook race today. You know w A Day is a perfect example. Why is that public holiday in the middle of winter, the middle w.
A da Correct, that's w A Yeah.
Sure, but you know we celebrated in with the festival.
Yes, and the last few years it wasn't an event this year. The last few year's the event was runed out hen's while they moved it. Correct, So maybe that's something to consider. Sam. What would you also add into the calendar for an extra public holiday?
Well, Mills rang me up and he said, don't mention my name, he says, but Melbourne Cup day mate.
Ah yeah, yep, Sam, I reckon he would see that. You know what meals you probably like midweek days off when their events in pinjarror and you know he just he just like them all.
I want a day off for the cowgooy correct whatever it is, the cocker cocker.
Yeah, he take them all like that. Sam, good thinking Paris says we should have keeped the sheep Day, Yeah, good cool, left field catch up day, catch up with over eaes, catch up with family, catch up with mates, Gordy wants Festivus.
Or the King's Birthday should be changed to just be called Royal show.
Day's a nice one.
The public holiday Monday is Royal show Day anyway, really, so we could do that. We've had Royal show Day.
EF Day in the financial year day well nfs, depending on where it works at the EFS.
One of them did it, didn't really care.
Featherbe'd be all over that one.
He would be He'd like that one. Double three Atty two. Jake, thank you very much.
You're very welcome, Oliver.
Our chief of News, Jake Batrick, who's been at the premiere's press conference this morning saying that changes could be coming to WA's public holiday calendar and that could come into effect from twenty twenty seven. So if you've got a nomination for an extra public holiday to put into the calendar, where open to all suggestions and you'll be our caller of the day. Two tickets to Blow in
the Wind playing tribute to Bob Dylan. I'm suggesting we go with Bears Day for the arrival of the Perth Bears. Pete's called through about our Yes, Nopold, is Scott Morrison deserve his ac Good morning.
Good morning Ali. Look, as soon as I heard what that he was going to give an award, I couldn't believe it, especially over COVID. Have we've forgotten what he did to the coal industry, the timber industry, the wine industry. Have we forgotten what he did of the fishing industry
West Australia. And I'll tell you something. He cost me personally half a million dollars by kick by shooting his mouth off at the wrong time when he thought he was king of the world, and he cost Australia billions And now they're going to give him an award for it? How does that make sense?
So do you feel the same about the state premiers also getting these acknowledgments last year?
Pete?
So, Mart mcgow and Daniel Andrews they are also part of the recipients and acknowledged in twenty twenty four.
But well, personally, I don't know what they did good or bad. But I know what Scott Morrison did and what Scott Morrison did he cost austral workers. Australian taxpayers that were paying his wages billions of dollars? Have we forgotten about the coal industry in Queensland, the West Australian fishing industry, We've forgotten about the wine, the timber and there they're the ones that come straight to my mind. And there were others as well, And he's going to
get an award for it. I mean, really, you know, this is a joke. And then after that, look what he did after that? Why did he have to resign at one stage? Why was that? It wasn't because he did such a great job.
He lost the election and then there was the secret ministerial appointments. But particularly I'll just to your points about the tim industry and the fishing industry. If you're going to take aim at Scott Morrison for that, probably take came as well for some of those state government policies in regards to both those industries. I personally think both
of them, like the Polly's away from it. The COVID years again have tarnished the good will that government's built up with the Australian people on the Yes nopole question though we're at one hundred and four, so raised the bat for the yes's fifty five on the nose. You can continue to cast your vote. And what's the extra public holiday we should put into the schedule. Have a bit of fun with us on Perth today it's twelve to twelve. Darren reckons we should have a public holiday
every time the Egels win a game. Oh, they would only be an extra one year, possibly possibly not Morris, good morning, good morning, how are you?
I'm good mate? What do you reckon? What would you add into the mix?
Something for everyone here? The twenty second of July, which is twenty two seven, could become National Pie Day PI and we can also celebrate the Australian meat pie. And it would also suit for people who want Christmas in July three lots of people all satisfied in one hit National Pie Day seven.
Morris, I like you thinking, but which particular pie would you buy? Are you just just strinking it to a good old assie meat pie or can you go and get an apple pie or a you know, a fish pie.
I'm thinking not just the pie, but put the mathematicians type pie Pie Day understood?
Yep, yep. But you got to the know the debate is going to be about the topic like I go, I'll go a steak and pepper myself. What would you go?
I quite like a mushroom mushroom pie.
All right, mushroom pie. It's just Ibera and Patterson doesn't make it for you there, Morris. We'll see what happens in that particular court case. But just be careful, Julian says, public holiday on the twenty second of February, Richie ben O day. Marvelous, Yes, Julian, I like that thinking too. So we've had twenty two July and now twenty two February. Steven, good morning.
Any good Alia. First of all, compliments to your producers. She looks after this corps very well there. But secondly, I'm going to go in a different direction, and I've taken a bit more seriously. I guess I'm going to suggest we've signed there was a confidence I recompensed recompensation with the Bivermin tribes, and my understanding of the government people's not that long ago. Whatever that date was, it'd be a marvelous WA day to include in our calendar.
I would have thought, marvelous WA day. I don't mind that. And what day are you decided to put marvelous wa day on Stephen No.
No, no, no, I'm in in regards to signing that recompense with the Biverman peoples. Whenever that happens would be the day I have to wrote my agrants there. I don't know, but I presumed there was a day when it was signed, and I would have thought. Now, I know it's going in a different direction, and I hope you don't mind, but I would have thought that'd be a really good w because we've got WADAY, what a
great data. I wouldn't even put forward a name, it's not my place to do that, but that recognition of the signing of compensation would be seen as a major step forward.
I would have thought that would be all right, Thank you. Steve N. Ruby says Foundation WADA has to remain for the waffle, the famous de w matches South three O East Free Mantle, East Perth, West Perth. Good points, Bob, good morning.
Good morning.
Well I'm suggesting is we'll keep WADAY where it is. But if you're looking for an October public color Day, the twenty first of October Proclamation Day, it's when Western Australia was proclaimed a statement. We got our own.
Parliament all right twenty on October c again like the logic. See Bob, you've come up with a recommendation, we can put that one forward. Else would you suggest we could make an extra public holiday if we were to have one one double three at eighty two, Lynn says the government changed our June holiday name from Founder's Day when the Swan River Colony was founded to Wada a few years ago. So should we turn back the clock and ask them to declare the colony a bit later in
the year when the weather is better. We should leave it as it is and not necessarily King Charles's Birthday today anyway, No, it's not I have to go to the fourteenth of November for that May Day, says Troy John would like Remembrance Day acknowledges a public holiday. James of Bustleton would like cabin Fever in July to align with the Food Festival in the Southwest and make it
an entire winter break. A one double three eighty two on the yes, No, Scott Morrison, did he deserve his ac The yeses are up to one hundred and eight and.
The nose are at fifty six.
Yeah, one minute away from the midday news Here on six prs who says, how about a tree planting day? Is that Sue McDougall sending something through to us, because we've got some big news about Sue McDougall.
We can bring to you after.
Midday today, some exciting news after midday Here on six PR, Cameron says, what about the first day of summer? Everyone can enjoy the first day of summer. Businesses and eateries could have special deals to celebrate the start of summer. First day of the first test of the summer. Do you mean, Cameron here in Perth where we host the West Tests, May the fourth be with you? And Michael says, get a Simon, the twenty fourth of July should be
twenty four to seven day. Every place, every business or anything should be open twenty four to seven And great olie impression as well.
You've nailed it, thank you, Michael.
And well Simon had loved that idea to free the shops. He'd be right on board because he could go and buy his atlas that I've been promising to purchase him before eleven o'clock on a Sunday morning. But the shops are shut. They remain closed I can't do it and yes notice sco mode as Erbi's ac Yes is now one hundred and nine the nose fifty six. You can
have your say one double three a toty two. It is OLLI for simon this Monday on Perth Today, midday news time and from one o'clock we will take you out of the MCG big Freeze afternoon Melbourne and Collingwood from the MCG live Monday Afternoon Football right here on six PR. Bowie back with you from nine tomorrow here on Perth Today, and I'll be back with you on Perth Live from one o'clock Tuesday, Perth six PR Breaking news.
A nineteen year old man is fronted court, accused of murder over a stabbing in River Valle at the weekend. Six PR and nine News court reporter Ezra Holtz has the very latest. Good afternoon, Good afternoon Oli.
That's right, J Lewis. Paul Harrington just appeared in court. He has been charged with murder over that stabbing incident over the weekend. The alleged victim is eighteen year old Philip Nrkell. That has been confirmed in court. This was a very quick court appearance. He did not apply for bail. His lawyer didn't apply for bail through him. He got Remanded's been put through to the Sterling Gardens Court in a couple of weeks time, so we'll definitely be following
following that one. There seemed to be two of the accused man's family members in court and he seemed to say something to them as he walked out of court, but no police were entered, no application for bail was entered either.
Has there been a link established all between the teenagers yet?
Isra Are they known to each.
Other as far as we know, yes, that is what police have told us. There were no facts read out in court, which we were expecting or sometimes happens where we sometimes hear a bit more about the circumstances about what actually took place. But for now we're going to have to keep waiting. And yeah, the information that we know is all pretty pretty surface level at the moment.
And was any of the victim's family there in court this morning?
I don't believe so. I don't believe so. But we are starting to see a lot a lot of tributes online. Yeah, very sad to this death. It seems to have touched a lot of people.
Absolutely, we'll see her reports it four and six. Thank you for that breaking news update, AZA appreciate that's thankfully Ezra Holtz, Channel nine News and six PR Court reporter.
Exciting news for Sue McDougall, which we will.
Revealed to you a little later this hour, and our yes no for this Monday on Perth Today is Scott Morrison Deserve's ac The yeses at one hundred and thirteen. The those are at fifty nine if you want to cast your vote one double three, eight point eighty two. Joined in the studio now by six PR producer and international traveler Sophie Hawkins. Good afternoon, Good afternoon, Alie. It might be the first time we've had a chat on air since the good old Perth after Dark day.
Yeah. Those were the days, weren't they.
They were five to six. He used to tell us about three things that we could do that night.
Those were the days when I actually had time to do anything. These days, there's no TV, there's no going out.
It's just.
Parenting.
What about a particular series that you may stream so if you like every now and then you might just catch an episode of Is there something religiously that you're trying to watch at the moment.
At the moment, well, the next thing will be the next series of what's the one with Gary Oldman, the Spy one? I can't even think. Yeah, but that's probably years away. Actually, I'll say this this afternoon, if my kids don't come home to me too early, I will catch a few episodes of the Sex and the City reboot and just like that, isn't it?
Something like that? Mmy something like that, and just like that, just like Jimmy Ian, every episode hasn't he Yeah, he just didn't want to when they went to Dubai.
Yeah, so there is.
There's also another I think a cop kind of one with Matthew Good on Netflix Department Que.
Yeah, that looks so this is meant to be slow horses. He ah, Helliams tell us on Friday. Oh he's former mate now on Perth Life.
Okay, well that I say that. That looked up my alley as well. But at the moment, it's if we can get in front of a Docker's game and a West Coast game, me and my partner, That's that's basically where we're at.
Yeah, bit myself up off the floor.
I thought it for a moment then, because of how poor the Eagles were on the weekend, you'd thrown out the goal and you bought the purple No way, Never you want to contemplate, like if Alex said to you, an, I bought you a Docer's guernsey.
Good, that was good of you to waste your money. I'll say this, I have. I think the waters have run a little bit deep with my eldest, so I've bought her quite a bit of Eagles merch. I like to pick up things in upshots and stuff, so if there's a T shirt or whatever, so she's got a fair few Eagles things. And I didn't think I was pushing it that hard. No, she's a doccers man. No, no, no, she's Eagles, So Alex Borty No, because I then, because I'm benevolent, I bought Roy my baby a little Dockers.
Hayby birthday to Roy by the way, yeah.
Thank you very much, a little Docker's jacket and a little bear.
So you're giving.
But I've bought him because I just think it's fair.
So the girls are Eagles, the boys of Dockers.
No, it was just that I happened to find team Talcket. I mean, I think longer term, if they want to enjoy joy in their lives, they should join me on the right side it mark my words. Twenty thirty the Eagles will win the flag. I don't know how we got.
Onto the in the purpose of having a chat, but it's very interesting. I just think it's interesting though that you have in the household the side of the boys of Dockers fans and the girls are Eagles fans.
I've decided nothing. I've done his supply, bought.
Your son to Dockers, but I have also brought him Eagles gear.
He's also got a little cute little eagle onesie, and he's got a little eagle penguin thing for someone brought him a little Eagles peng And that's interesting.
So yeah, well, so the real purpose as to why I digress we're having a chat today is like Jake's just been in nex Mouth. Yeah, you have just been overseas as I have, and you have arrived.
Back into Australia recently and something he's grinding your.
Gears a little bit.
Look, so I and my mother and my stepdad we all went up to Singapore last week with kids and had a fantastic We've absolutely had a blast from start to finish. On arrival into Singapore, I was really impressed. So you feel out your little arrivals form online, so it's all done online. You get to the airport, you scan your passport, boom, you're in Happy days. That was it. Coming home, same thing. You just put your passport in
and you're out easy coming into Perth. I think it's exacerbated by the fact it was one in the morning.
You've got two young children.
We've got little kids who, to their credit, were being fantastic filling out your arrivals from on the plane. I've got to fill out four of them because Hubby's got babies. So I'm doing everyone's filling four of the same things out. And we're getting in line at customs of all the whole planes got to line up, give you a little paper over, they look at it.
Yeah.
Then you get in line to go through the bag check. We're going to go through no. And I just think it's just I don't want.
To say necessarily slow, just yeah.
And you forget because every time you come home from an international trip and you just hit this wall.
So did you fly back through the international terminal at Quantum right, so you came through terminal three four, so it is probably not as well staffed as the international terminals.
In their credit they had enough stuff from It was.
Just a big it's only one, but it's still only one.
It's one plane.
You know, you can eat International terminal with five planes arriving at the same time. So it's just it should tick a long better.
And it is. They were all lovely, They're all doing their best. It was you know, I get that these checks have to happen, but to go from just.
Be out a form of isn't it and you do it all electronically, scan the process. And that is a big airport. It's one of the biggest airports in the world.
So that's straightforward moving around. And it got me thinking about things like hopping on the train in Singapore, got your card beep, you're on, Yes here.
You're smart, smart right, get you smart?
Yeah?
You can go and tag on and off in Sydney, for example, you can go and tag on it off with your credit card. In Melbourne you don't even need it these days.
I don't want to be a winger because I love this town. Yes, and I love the state, but there's just a few things I think we could be doing a little bit.
Better one double three A two.
Where can we in Perth, or in Australia for that matter, catch up a little bit better with the rest of the world. Sophie's great example there and the arrivals process as you come back internationally and it's like to physically fill out those arrivals cards, which I do believe there is a bit of a trial underway at the moment. I think in and out of Brisbane Airport and a couple of Countice flights maybe in New Zealand and or
America where they're trialing that. So obviously the technology is coming.
You would think that's been.
In Singapore for a very long time.
And I mean, ultimately what I don't really understand how a pay per form is going to be any different to a digital form. I'm not a developer. I don't know how phones work. But if one country can.
Do it, can we do one double three at two. The other example Sophie uses there is the tagging on and off or needing the smart writer. You could maybe use your phone or you know, even normally just still be able to pay with some cash.
Well that was maybe the one thing I had to go and get a little I guess a smart writer for my daughter. So under seven, I think you can get the kids can ride for free. Yes, but we did have to get a card for her because we couldn't pay with I just want I just oh, we're just going on one thing. Can I just pay for a ticket? Oh no, you can't pay for a ticket. Oh we need a passport. Oh I don't have her passport. And they were like, would you have a birth certificate? Actually, yes,
I did. I had her birth certificate on my showed in that Happy Days. They had it over easy, So something that could have been kind of annoying, they still had a solution. It just feels like everything that we came up against in those just general moving around the place type situations, And I guess it is in Perth.
You know, we're so locked to our cars. We don't really I just think about, now that I've done that, I think about where would I take someone if they were coming to Perth, or if someone was coming here from a bigger city. How would you feel if you're kind of turning up going right, I'll just catch the train to I don't know your hotel in the city. Oh, well,
have you bought your smartphone? If you got off the plane at one in the morning at the airport, you've got to get on a bus to the other airport. Then you've got to get a smart It's all those little things that just add up. And we want to be big, we want to you know, we've got the stadium, we've got everything, but it's those.
So where could we catch up with the rest of the world, Pete, an't good afternoon.
I believe transfers and the process is catching up.
There buses to the all the smart stuff instead of just using the smart run.
How long? Yeah, we've heard it for like three or four years going on, I reckon since before I left six PR The last time that was all yep, it's coming coming. And you can't even pay for your parking at the train stations. You've got to pay for it with a smart run.
Yeah, thanks, Pete. And when you have the capability now on your phone with that easy park solution, you just you know, you already have your license details and you get there and you just wind the wheel and tells you fifteen minutes to go, or you add a bit more or whatever it might be. All the technologies there, you've got to be let's just be able to introduce it. Tim points out that in Bali it's all electronic now too.
Yeah, it's it's just it kind of I don't know, Embarrassing is not the right word, because ultimately, you know, there's lots to love about where we live, and I appreciate that the arrival stuff is a federal issue as well, so it's not just us, but it is. You kind of get to that point where you're like jeep and there were people so the flight from Singapore, there were people who were coming home from Thailand, from London wherever, and you just we were all right because we'd only
been on a short flop. You look at these tired people line for fifteen minutes.
Where else can we catch up with the world. We could name you caller of the Day. Two tickets to Blowing in the Wind one double three Attity two. Wendy says we could open the grocery shops earlier and keep him opened later.
That's a great idea.
I love that Wendy. Simon Beaumont will be on board with that too, big time, massively. He loves it famously. Yeah, I reckon, I've I think I've almost I think I've almost.
Only taken what has it been eight years or so?
I reckon I've almost recruited Simon to joining me at the front of the picket line to free the.
Shops Sunday morning.
He'll come with me at eight o'clock on a Sunday morning outside Maya to.
Buy your what was it nappies?
No?
No, and I think others are after shoes. I wanted to buy Simon and Atlas. That was my whole purpose. I couldn't buy Man Outlas.
No, I can't think of where you could.
What a shame that ouru?
You and Simon, Yes, thank you.
Sophie. Welcome Sophie Hawkins, International Traveler, six PR Producer one Double three, Attity two.
Where else can we catch up with the rest of the world.
I've got some exciting news to share with you next about the One, the Only Sue McDougall. It is Olie for Bowie until one o'clock this Monday. Only Bowie back with you tomorrow. I'll be back on Perth Live and this afternoon will take you to the mcg for Big Freeze. Monday Footy Melbourne Colleen Wood live from one o'clock here on six PR.
So Res shreckens.
We need to have witches hats at the airport so that people attended to they'll know what they have to experience for their entire holiday here Brilliance Bowie would appreciate it. He certainly would one hundred percent agree about Singapore, says Market Chewitt Hill took my wife and in twelve minutes from walking off the plane to waiting for our grab and uber curbside, it is so convenient to pay for the MRT with smart pay.
We just need to catch up.
How's that an international flight where you land and twelve minutes later you're in the grab outstanding or the Uber. M O of Augusta says we should be able to pay with cash for a bus or a train ride and our car parking, while Tim in Albany says it's the same. In Buddhapest customs an hour. Try catching the underground. Milan is also bad.
Perth's not alone.
Just get out and travel a little bit more one double three eight eighty two. If you'd like to have your say and our yes no This Monday on Perth today to Scott Morrison deserves ac The current counts one hundred and fifteen, yes, the fifty nine, sticking with the King's Birthday honors, and I'm very pleased to inform you that our very own Sue McDougall has been a ward Day Medal of the Order of Australia for service to
horticultura through media roles. Sue McDougall, Am, good afternoon and congratulations.
Oh thank you, Ollie.
Does I feel very surreal at the moment.
Where did you find out? Sue?
I found out last week or the week before, and I had sworn to secrecy. I'm forever grateful. Originally I was. I received a notification that I was being considered and I had absolutely no idea. Some lovely personal people have nominated me, and I know, I just felt so humbled and so overwhelming. A little bit I cried.
I think.
Thought, yeah, I just thought, wow, how lovely is that?
So I feel just yeah, just proud, but also overwhelmed and humbled and a little bit surreal. Today I use I think, if you could put it.
Honestly, I'm sure it is when you got that phone call of confirmation, or was it was it a letter? How do they do it?
So actually comes via email, So you actually originally get a notification to say you're being considered. The recommendation is going up to the Governor General. Please keep everything quiet, don't say anything. And that was a few months ago. And then of course there's no guarantee. It still has to be considered. And so would you accept the award if it was considered and then received an email actually about ten days ago?
That's brilliant. And do you get a special certificate? Now you get to go to the you haven't already get a special seat. You can see that at Government House.
There's quite a few of us. So no, but there isn't it.
There is a ceremony in September for the King's Birthday awards, and of course it's fifty years for this year twenty twenty five marks the fiftieth year anniversary of the Australian awards system. So I feel very privileged to be part of it. Yeah, I do. I just can't believe it. It's probably the best way to explain it.
How many questions do you believe you may have helped people with over the years in your media roles? Sue when on six pr asking for some help or assistance about cutting their roses.
Oh, I should actually add that up, because that's something that I feel. I just absolutely love having success when other people have success. So when I give some advice and I get no greater pleasure when someone says, I come up and NAA wasn't interested in guarding until I started listening or I wasn't. I did what you said and surprised they so surprised it worked and I was so you know, so I get.
Great pleasure out of that. So we got at it up.
We did every weekend. Most of those were two days. We probably talked twenty or thirty questions a day for twenty seven or thirty years, and so it's quite a few questions. And I never I never got sick of it. And that's why I just absolutely absolutely love it. Horticulture is something that's just right through agriculture and horticulture right through to what I absolutely love doing. So I don't get sick of it at all.
No, And you take people on a what we learned something from you every every week when you're still talking to Simon in his words, how good is Sue McDougall.
Oh, bless him. I pained to say that, Ollie, you.
Know better than most. There are some well how do I say it politely? Well, maybe I'll be rude about it. There's some interesting characters, let's just put it that way. In our industry, as you know, and I have never heard and I sincerely mean this, I have never heard a bad word about you. And you're not a diva. You're not somebody that throws a tantrum or wants it
to all. You know, go your own way, because some of us have some interesting personality suit but you are just such a genuine, heartfelt West Australian who deserves this recognition. And we were talking only about Scott Morrison getting his Well he can get stuffed.
I'm glad one's gone to Sue McDougal.
Oli, you make me cry again.
Thank you.
That's just lovely, just lovely. And we know media industry. I just fell into it when I first started it, but I absolutely feel so privileged to be part of it and people can learn along the way. That's exactly what I want to do.
And I love how you now putting all that passion into Indoe Kings Park and the Botannic gardens and you've obviously got light skape this way. There's no better advocate suit. You just epitomize all of that, and it's just it's just wonderful that you deserve this pad on the back because we're very lucky to have your part of our six PR family and obviously the wider Perth media family from that point too. Oh, thank you so much, my absolute pleasure.
Sue.
You go and celebrate and celebrate hard.
Yeah, with a flower I think with a new plan.
We'll see you soon and we'll see it lights, Kate, get on your Sue.
Well done, don't you?
Thank you?
That's Sue McDougall, of course awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia AIM for service to hord A culture through her media roles. In the words of Simon Beaumont, how good is Sue McDougall one double three eight eighty two.
And maybe she's helped you navigate your.
Garden when to prune those roses properly and you've got some good results. If you want to pay tribute to Sue McDougall, you are certainly welcome to do.
So, get aid on.
Yeah, good a how are you oli.
I'm good, Don How are you today?
Yeah?
Good mate, good. Just a quick one on the aircraft idea when we're coming back, not just the Western Australia to Australia. Recently we came back from South America. It was a Quantus flagged flight, but it was a Latam Airlines and when we arrived in Sydney, they hadn't had any of the immigration forms on the plane, so when you got there you had to queue up an immigration but they didn't have anyone handing out the things while you were lining up. When you got to the front,
they gave you the form. Then they said go to the back of the lines.
To fill.
An absolute absolute shoka.
So it took.
Ages and ages. Then we eventually had to catch a connecting flight. So we're getting a bit anxious about this and yeah, anyway, lots of balls up's going on. We got to the connecting flight, we were held up the bus on the way across. They'd close the doors at Quantas and they then gave us a bit of a tune up saying well, you know, if you've got on here on time, and eventually they led us on the plane.
But it was.
It was just this horrendous thing of not only do we have an archaic paper system, but we don't even have those all of those things on the planes, on all planes coming into the country, and I just think this is a Department of Transport issue, you know, federally obviously, but it was.
It was. I couldn't believe it.
It was an absolute fiasco. And I thought, if this is your first entry to Australia, because the immigration people were very, very aggressive and saying get to the back of the ill get back, and it was a bit like entering some sort of third world.
Yeah, yeah, that's rights, and it is.
It's first like all those things matter, as it does if you got off a cruise ship and you arrived at the Fremantle Ferry. To me, you think, hold on, it's got to be better than that. It's a good point Don makes. And how those other airlines, all those international airlines, don't at least have the paper slips that you can fill out while you're landing back into the country. Micro cans Transperth needs a mobile app for tap on
and tap off. It saves having to use a physical card and more efficient we can just use your credit card tapping on a tapping off over in Melbourne and Sydney these days.
And Perth needs to do better. I totally agree.
I'm currently doing some work on Rotto. Can't believe that the roads away from the settlement are completely dark. Why there are no commercial grade solar lights that light up the roads. It would be so more attractive and enjoyable to ride after dark. We barely get all the lights working at the moment on the Quanana or the Mitchell. Good luck trying to get lights on Rotto. We'll get your point, but very difficult.
Stephen.
On the public holidays, reckons the Eastern States should be the ones lining up with WA's public holidays because we're the economic powerhouse of Australia. Like your logic, and David says, well done, see mcdogle, very very well deserved. Best wishes from a David are nice to hear you tuning in this afternoon David one double three eight eighty two if you'd like to join Perth today this Monday afternoon. It is a twenty six to one. Let's go to Bruce
Wells for the latest on our roads. Twenty three to one. Let's cross the six pr newsroom. Chelsea Bowden has news headlines. A good afternoon, John, your chel thank you very much for that. George says his wife and he were flying out of Perth in February. When they got to the automatic gates where your face recognition happens, at least half of the passengers refused entry. The first time we all
had to go around to the normal security gates. We had a good laugh because my wife actually went through no problems. So much for technology.
Making things easier. Now, in the.
Spirit of Simon Beaumont, we will do some music talk back. I want to know from you right now, what would be your entrance theme song? One double three eight eighty two. What would be your entrance theme song if you were to a ripe in the arena, if you were to take center stage. Maybe it's what you selected as well for your wedding, that this is the song that you

Chris says many people are still suffering the trauma as a result of the scandemic as they lost their jobs in their homes for not taking experimental jab and six PR has been gas lighting people over this issue for years. You're a weak bunch of cowards for not looking into this, sorry, Chris Ivon mccoward.
Tim says yes for scomo.
He signed up for the job of prime minister, but that did not include an extraordinary pandemic like wars. You need a leader for the moments the UK had Winston Churchill. We had Scott Morrison. History will be kind in reviewing his pandemic performance. And Chris gives a definite yes for Scott Morrison. Those who vote know would happen to be those who are labor voters.
So is it simply just a long party lines?
So I didn't like it when it went to Martin McGown and Daniel Andrew's last year. I'm not the greatest fan of this acknowledgment. Guy to Scott Morrison this year one double three eight eighty two. And whenever he goes anywhere and I happen to ring him and he has to get somebody else to answer it because he's busy. They absolutely crack up.
I love that. So you've had you've obviously had this joke grading with him for years, Noline, and you've wrote in his colleagues or your friends and you'll have a good giggle about it.
What do you do?
What you do that is outstanding, absolutely brilliant. I love how you take the mickey out of it, and that's what it's all about. Life, not too serious and you have a little bit of fun together. Lovely lady, Noleine. It really doesn't suit her, does it, But it does in the context of what she's telling you there and having a bit of fine one double three eight eighty two music talk back? What would be your entrance theme?
So I'm going maybe you've never actually thought about this, Maybe it is something that it has not occurred to you that you'd like an entrance theme, But this is going to be what I'm going to have.
