Episode description

In this episode, coaches Bobby Tan and Tarrin Wilson sit down to discuss the nuances of Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE)-based training.

A common rule of thumb is that an athlete's rated RPE should correspond with Reps in Reserve (RIR), i.e. RPE 7 means you've got 3 reps left. But what happens to RPE on different lifts? How do you account for RPE differences in a technical movement like a bench press compared to a conventional deadlift? What are the things you need to keep in mind when you're thinking about your athlete and their subjective RPE?

Tarrin and Bobby go through the lessons learnt in their years of coaching a range of athletes and share it in this podcast. Whether you're a coach or athlete, you're guaranteed to takeaway some keys in this podcast to help optimise your training.
