Episode description

As pelvic PTs we have the challenge and responsibility of caring for others.  In order to do that we have to be taking care of ourselves!

One of the best ways to do this is breaking through the negativity bias.

This is a cognitive bias where we over-focus on the negative.  It's an evolutionary adaption - the more worried or negative we are, the more cautious and more likely to survive.  Except it's no longer serving us in today's world.

We disproportionately focus on negative actions.  Some things we might think:

  • "My boss is always complaining about something"
  • "All of my patients are cancelling on me"
  • "I'm not good enough to get my patients better"

This 'sode dives into the negativity bias: what is is, how it affects us, and - most importantly - what we can do about it!
