This is the Patriots Training Camp Cast. The Patriots Training Camp Cast is your source for all the news from Patriots training Camp. Well, I do still watch the news. Practice is over, but the writers of Patriots dot com have you covered? What did I miss yesterday? Now here to review today's practice? The writers of Patriots dot com. All right, day four of Patriots training camps officially in the books. As the players are now doing their wind sprints over on the hill. This is Mike Douso joined
by Paul Parlo Patriots dot Com. We're here with the camp cast. Catch you guys up on everything that happened today. And Paul, it seems a little bit of a continuation of the last two days. It felt like to me this was the toughest day for the offense. They had a couple of plays here and there, but overall, I think the defense owned the day. The offense just couldn't seem to find much of a stride or produce many big play is, notable plays, plays that got the crowd
pumped up in a few days. It was a bit of a struggle for them today. Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I think again, the coverage was tight, you know, You're starting to see a lot of the same kinds of plays offensively, so you wonder if maybe the defense is sort of, you know, subconsciously understanding what's going on and what's happening. But I thought Malcolm Butler was pretty active today. First time I've seen a lot of him in coverage.
He was with a group with Jalen Mills and Terrence Mitchell as the three corners, and I just thought, again, Mac Jones, Bailey z Appy the two quarterbacks with no Brian Hoyer for the second straight day, they had a hard time finding open targets and some of the throws were late. There were a lot of scrambles, a lot of off platform kind of stuff, and I think you're right, the defense really controlled things, so I wasn't totally devoid
of good plays. Though I think maybe the play of the day though, might have been actually from Bailey z Appy, you know, hitting Christian Wilkerson down the field. So we talked about Brian Hoyer has been out the last couple of days. It hasn't been great for the offense, but it certainly has been an opportunity for Bailey Zappy to come in here get a number of reps. You know, he certainly had his up and down moments today as
a rookie. You'd expect that, but did make a couple of throws and seems like he's you know, getting his feet wet right out of the gate here. Yeah, a lot of opportunity for him. Um, you know, a lot of reps now. You know again you see a little bit of what they saw, you know, in getting after him.
You know in the draft, there are periods where you know, the ball comes he gets on the back foot, the ball comes out with authority, decisiveness with his throws, and his other periods that he's like, oh, there's a rookie. There's a guy who doesn't have a lot of experience in the league, so you expect a lot of that. But I think the overwhelming takeaway from me, I'm going to write about this a little bit later on today for Zappy is just the incredible opportunity that he's getting
with all of these reps. A little of a spoiler alert, you know, a couple there are a couple of nice catches though, too, got to give some credit, you know, I thought you Kobe Myers had a nice contested catch in the end zone. Continuing great, continuing a strong couple of days as he's kind of bounced back on the scene here in the last couple of days. But I want to talk towards the end. We had a little sequence. I thought that you know, something's up a little bit.
We have it down in the red zone here in eleven on elevens, mac Jones was able to find Hunter Henry on one of their better tds in the day, Kyle Dugger and coverage. He's been picked on a little bit. Come back. The next play Dugger picks off Mac probably would have been a pick six, although Justin Herron did put a very he ran about eighty yards with him down the sideline. Ben Watson Circuit two thousand and five. There if it's a play, though, Mike, that we talked
to him. You and I talked about this yesterday that I don't think mac Jones has in his skill set that I think he's getting some bad habits on the practice field, and hopefully it's just one of these things like why I could do it in the practice field when he's scrambling around and he's looking to sort of throw it back the other way. He does not have that kind of arm strength, and this was as easy
a pick six as you're gonna get. You know, Kyle Dugger jests completely undercutting the route as he sees Max trying to throw it a little bit across the grain. That led to push ups for the offense. This time, they had another play or two after that, and they went to the bread and butter that had worked so well the day that they were over ten that a
little quick sprint out bang out in the flat. I thought Myers initially had a step on Marcus Jones, but Jones, with a great job or recovering, was able to get over there and break up the play. You know, maybe might have been a little bit early with the contact. Coud to tell from this far away, but just to see the defense sort of remember that easy little sprint out touchdown they allowed a couple of days ago. They
made sure it wasn't easy this time. Yeah, the offense might have squeaked a couple of plays out at the end of the previous practices, but not today. The defense finishes with a flourish. They look good. But of course, Paul, the good news is this represents the end of the non padded portion of training camp. So we're expecting on Monday, we'll be back here be full pads, so start to be some hitting. Maybe you can extrapolate a little bit more from what's going on down in the practice fields.
But great crowd. If you have a chance, be sure to get out here. Next week. They're scheduled to practice Monday through Thursday, and then Friday night is scheduled to be the in stadium season ticket holder and Foxborow resident practice, So if you're able to get to that, always a nice time inside Gillette Stadium as well. But otherwise, great crowd today, and unfortunately they didn't quite get the offensive
fireworks they might have been hoping to see. As we're watching Mac go off the field here to wrap up practice. So as always, Paul and I will be back after each session just to catch you guys up. You don't have a chance to listen to us blab on and on the whole live show, you can get five minutes quick here and find out exactly what happened to the practice. So we will be back on Monday with a full recap of the full padded practice. For now, Mike do so,
