Intro / Opening

Maybe you are the sort of person who spent months thinking about 2023. You crafted a plan, you had a strategy. You really put some time and effort into creating the vision and goals for what you want this year to be. Perhaps you are an 1159 on December 31st, sort of person creating, you know, some. Resolutions last minute, whichever one you are, neither one of those things will happen without following through intentionally every single day. Welcome to Passion and Profits Without Burnout.

I'm your host, Jacob Moore. I'm a speaker, coach, childhood suicide law survivor and filmmaker who left Hollywood to follow my heart of service. I've helped tens of thousands of people find the balance in their life between passion and profits. I'm gonna show, I'm gonna teach you how to build a trauma responsive, resilient, and impactful community and organization, all without burning out. Let's get started.

Instead of resolutions, do something little that adds value to your life each day

I personally don't make resolutions. I'm much more interested in. Value adds on a daily basis that build up to big gains over time. Now, certainly we need. Sweeping visions and, you know, goals. That's something that I really enjoy and I pride myself in. But I've learned over the years that we also need that, that day-to-day habit formation that builds productivity and, and adds those gains as we go for this year. I have decided to train for the Chicago Marathon folks. I'm not a distance runner.

I grew up as a sprinter. I, you know, wrestled and was a gymnast from martial arts. So we're talking high intensity activities. It's not to say don't have endurance, but running for long periods of time long distance for me growing up. 400 meters. Okay. This decision to train for the marathon is something that's come out of really being a new father. Last year the energy was pretty frenetic. There were a lot of personal changes that happened. My wife and I experienced two miscarriages.

The pregnancy process for our son, for our rainbow baby was, was challenging, was anxiety ridden.

Juggling a busy schedule

And the, the, you know, birth process in first few months was just anybody who's a parent knows an incredible. Trying to do that simultaneously with home renovations with, you know, continuing to build five bridges and no stigmas. Not to mention, you know, trauma responses and attachment styles and all the personal things that you have to deal with. The energy was frenetic last.

and coming into 2023, I really wanted to shift that energy And the, the reason why I decided to do the marathon was because I think it's indicative of that shift in energy. I, I tend to jump from idea to idea and get bored pretty easily. Follow through has been a challenge for me.

How the principles of marathon training apply to daily life

This idea of adding one mile per week and building up to, you know, 27 miles is, is really daunting. But being a new father has given me a lot of perspective because I want to have longevity. I don't have energy for the next 20 plus years as my son grows, to be able to not just keep up, but to be able to be there by his side and really grow with him. So, looking towards, you know, the long view this sort of marathon view is, is my way of committing to that. But I wanna infuse.

In all aspects of my life, in my relationships, in, you know, my organizations and my personal commitment to myself, my health and wellbeing. So that's all just to say that those intentions that you set going into this year are, are really be. I know that they are because you're someone who, who cares about, you know, your yourself, wellness, the teams that you lead.

Infusing this mindset in every aspect of life

If you would regardless of how planful you are, please take a few moments after this episode or pause this episode and just write down a few tangible, tactical things that you can do right now, today and every day.

They should be intentionally, But working towards those goals and the vision that you have for this year, once you've captured those and you have a really good understanding of, of what those are, those things, those small steps that you can take every single day, I want you then to program them into your calendar or your planner or your productivity software, whatever it is that you use. I use. Sun samma which I, I really enjoy and I think it's helps me with follow through quite a bit.

I'll leave a link for that. It's, it's a great program, but just add those to your calendar. Add them to your reminders so that you don't lose track. I want you to follow through and I want you to be. Intentional with how you go about this year and, and to have all the success that you want to have.
