Intro / Opening

Hey, welcome to Passion and Profits Without Burnout. I'm your host, Jacob Moore, and this is the intro episode, which is coming after episode 10 . So as usual, I'm sort of a, you know, cart before the horse sorta of guy. I tend to just jump into things and start going and I learn by doing. I have a very iterative approach to my work. And here we are. Part of the reason why this intro session is coming. The way, you know, the time that it is, is because of the production schedule.

The team that I was working with was like, Hey, we gotta get going. And the guests that I, you know, had available we needed to jump in. And so we did and recorded, you know, 10 great episodes with amazing guests and fantastic interviews. Tools and, you know, really tactical takeaways that I, I think you all enjoy. But along the way, people have been asking, Hey, who is this guy and why do we care about what he has to say? Welcome to Passion and Profits Without Burnout.

I'm your host, Jacob Moore. I'm a speaker, coach, childhood suicide loss survivor and filmmaker who left Hollywood to follow my heart of service. I've helped tens of thousands of people find the balance in their life between passion and profits. On the show, I'm gonna teach you how to build a trauma responsive, resilient, and impactful community and organization, all without burning out. Let's get started. Those who don't know me I'll, I'll introduce myself.

So I'm Jacob Moore and I founded an organization called No Stigmas, which is a mental health peer support organization focused on sharing stories, lived experiences that help break down the stigmas around mental illness, around suicide, and other behavioral challenges that people face.

Jacob's history and the birth of his mission

Organization is a direct result of my own experience with peer support after the death of my birth father by suicide. And growing up with that loss experiencing early childhood trauma really set me on a pretty discursive path, both from. You know, from a educational perspective and a personal development perspective relationships been really challenging for me.

And the, the whole trajectory of my, you know, my learning and career was, was really affected by by that experience and the subsequent anxiety and depression that I experienced. After working with numerous therapists and doctors, trying, you know, 33 different combinations of pharmaceuticals to try to fix my brain what really made the biggest impact in my life was peer support.

Meeting someone who shared their story and who helped normalize what I was going through, and was also an example of what life could look. While living with mental health challenges. And that set me on a path to discover, you know, my own roadmap for wellness and beyond. And that led me to the creation of the Five Bridges Wellness System which is a five part curriculum that is really a construct for developing a wellness action.

And I, I noticed that things really fell into the five different categories for me. And as I began to make modifications or as I say self experimentation in these different categories I could really adjust my overall wellness and therefore mental health. And that led to me finding a sustainable plan. When I shared it with others it was interesting to them and helpful for them. So I basically built a curriculum at scale which I now license to service organizations that.

Utilize it to help their clients in, you know, for populations ranging from, you know, people who are incarcerated or in, you know, mental health facilities to, you know, parents and families being used with youth as employee wellness program. And now over 10,000 people have experienced the curriculum. So that's just a little bit about my background and the work that I. So let's talk about you. And this show is really for service leaders and I, I, I will also say impact leaders.

So service leaders, impact leaders. I use them interchangeably, and it's really just a matter of branding.

The traits of service leaders

But who I mean by service leaders is, are people who are doing some type of work. It can be non-profit for-profit. Really with the mindset of being of service to others, or at least infusing that into the work that they do. So service leaders can show up of, of course, in non-profit organizations or community service organizations, B CORs. But we also connect with a lot of people who are in for-profit companies, Fortune 550 companies who.

Are working in hr, diversity, equity, and inclusion, or are just people who really care about, you know, doing the most good in their, you know, respective role and using their power for good, you know, as we say. So a, a service leader is someone who is Thinking beyond themselves to their staff, to their community to the world at large, and really cares about infusing value into what they're doing. So if, if that, Speaks to you, or if that describes you, then you're in the right place.

And regardless of whether you're leading a team or you know, you're providing coaching services, maybe you're working, you know, one-on-one with individuals or you know, you're, you're really an advocate for a large cause. Wherever you are at on the spectrum I, I hope that you'll find something here that is of value to you and I'm really trying to reach, you know, within that group of, of individuals to speak to all the needs that you might have. And I'll get into that a little more later.

So, What will this look like? The, the show will really be separated into two different types of episodes. So you can expect to have episodes that are really focused on tangible tools and, you know, tactical takeaways. So you'll learn something in each episode. Something that you can take and really. Bring action to, in the role or into your, into your life very immediately.

So really everything from, you know, marketing to, you know, creating a, you know, a diverse and inclusive environment and everything in between that you might experience as a service leader. We're gonna talk about the very tangible tools that you can use to. Do your work better. Another type of episode that you'll experience is focused on mindset. And mindset is really you know, it, it's for, it's for you.

It's for helping you, you know, disrupt patterns in your brain or cycles that are interfering with your ability to you know, stay organized and focused or, you know deal with self, self-sabotage in some way. Dr. Judy Ho was my very first guest, and we talk about her six steps to removing self-sabotage. That's a big challenge for a lot of people, especially those of us with lived experiences. Most generally people are getting into a service field because they've experienced.

You know, their own challenges and, you know, self sabotage can be part of that. So those are the two types of episodes. Something that's really, you know, tangible and a tool that you can take away and mindset. And sometimes they'll come in the form of me interviewing a guest or sometimes that'll be me solo and sharing, you know, information that, that I have so, I do this because I feel that it's very important to give back. That's one of my core values. That's one of the five bridges.

The fifth Bridge is give. And the reason why I bring that into this podcast and, and what inspired me to do it is because I've made so many mistakes along the way. I've fallen down and gotten back up and tried again, and tried again. And I, I know that there's an easier way. So. I want to share those experiences.

Not as, you know, cautionary tale, but really to say like, Hey if you can learn from my mistakes and use that as a way to grow or to, you know, maybe avoid some of the challenges that I had to deal with great. Then it's, it's, it's worth it. So. The show Passion and Profits without Burnout has really infused into it. My Core four, i, I call it a core four of impact leadership.

The Core Four Values of Passion and Profits

The first of these core values that are infused in, in this show. Is a mission mindset. So having a mission mindset that's driving outcomes through your purpose and it's really about. Infusing that mission into every single thing that you do. And I'll have an episode exclusively on Mission Mindset and really how to make it tangible in the work that you do. The second Core four is an empathetic environment. How as a leader do you create an environment that is conducive to your.

Really having the care and support they need to feel like they're, they're able to, you know, be themselves and maybe share some of the challenges that they're facing and not be afraid of being, you know, stigmatized or being looked over because of some of those natural things that we all face. We'll talk about how to use those challenges. As a benefit to you and to your organization. We'll look at, you know, diversity, equity, inclusion.

We'll look at ways to, you know, be accommodating for things like grief for trauma, and you know, how to really just understand the individuals that you're working with on a deeper level while still respecting the necessary boundaries in the work. The third core four is your professional and personal progress. So professional and personal progress is really about you, your growth as a human being but also as a, as a professional.

If there's not something in it for you, then you know you're not gonna be as motivated to, you know, continue to grow and to innovate. So, you know, really looking at thought leadership in this space and how can you become someone who is an influencer in the, you know, the work that you do. And that can just be your insular work environment on, on social or whatever your aspirations are.

It doesn't, The work that you do doesn't need to be exclusive of your growth, and we'll talk about strategies for making that happen as well. And the fourth core four is sustainable self care. None of this works if you are burnt out. You cannot take care of others in the way that they need to be taken care of or led if you are somehow compromised. In your, your health and wellness.

So we'll talk about strategies for really bringing that mindset of your, your needs need to be addressed in order to do the work that you do on the level that you wanna be doing it. We'll dig into all of those and how that works both in the upcoming episodes and in really infused into the entire.

So I, I just wanna briefly talk about why having, A service leadership mindset is so important, and I'm not gonna get into, you know, the world or toxicity or, you know, the, all, all of the issues inherent in consumerism. That that is where it is. So we're just gonna let set that over on a shelf here. But on a personal level, I just, I want you to know that I very much believe in both individual.

And the need for human beings to coexist in a community that is interdependent and it's challenging to balance both. But it's possible. And I think to truly be a service leader of impact it's necessary to do. I learned some hard lessons by trying to do it alone. I built teams that fell apart. I created systems that broke down, and I realized that in trying to DIY everything, that you cannot be good at all things. Being a specialist is how we grow.

So understanding what my own strengths are and where I can bring the most value to an organization or to a community has been one of the, one of the greatest ways that I've, I've been able to grow and have, you know, success in my life. One of the, one of the biggest ways that I've done. Is by connecting with the best of the best. I do not compromise when it comes to the talent on my team, the partners that I work with, or the people who I hire to advise me and my team on growth.

So, That is why you'll notice that you know, everything I put out there is highly branded. It's focused on, you know, it's design driven. It has an aesthetic because it needs to look a certain way in order to instill the confidence that comes with the information that I'm sharing, but also in order to stand out and compete with. The companies out there with millions and millions of dollars in their marketing budget.

So a big part of what I do is help individuals, help service leaders understand they need to think like those multimillion dollar corporations, billion dollar corporations. You need to think like a gigantic marketing department, like a PR firm. Like a social media influencer and infuse those perspectives into whatever great work that you're doing. Doesn't mean that you have to have a huge reach. Doesn't mean that you have to have a, you know, big marketing budget.

We can bring these ideas into our little micro communities and have a great impact. Really understanding that we, we can't do it alone and that we have to really really compete on a level that is maybe beyond what we're thinking of for a local organization. I, I wanna make sure that I'm also sharing and, and, Making it known that a big part of this is sustainability. We need to practice self care, avoid burnout in order to do this on a sustainable level.

What I mean, sustainability is you also need to have your needs taken care of. You need to make a good living. Being of service to others doesn't mean you have to sacrifice. Your own quality of life. And that's a hard lesson that I had to learn when I first started to know stigmas. I bootstrapped it and I, I was spending all of my time volunteering for my or own organization. And part of that's just, you know, not having a knowledge of how to build an organization learning as I went along.

But part of it is this false sense of needing to sacrifice or it being somehow, you know, wrong to, you know, make a good living while also being of service to others. Both are possible. I am very much a, a firm believer in the fact that there is plenty to go around. We have access issue. To the resources that are out there, and that's part of what this show is about, is to help helping to break down those barrier.

To access the resources that we need in order to play on the next level, but that includes you having what you need as a service leader to be able to grow. I worked with a fantastic therapist, Leo, who helped me understand that and helped me understand that we don't have to compromise when it comes. Really having the lifestyle that we need to sustain giving to others in the way that we want to. So if you feel like you're having challenges, finding clarity as a service leader, if you.
