My guest today is retired Utah State Prison Correction Officer, Jason Gurney.

He spent 24 years inside the prison system. Early in his career as a young 22 year old officer he played a small part in HBO’s documentary, Gladiator Days: Anatomy of A Prison Murder, The story of Troy Kell, now on death row for the murder of a fellow inmate back in 1996. We talk about the day to day experiences and the challenges of trying to make difference in the lives of our incarcerated brothers in an often thankless job and how he kept his humanity in the process.
