We bring on a celebrity guest to discuss their secret passion. Did you know that my friend Jenna Fisher loves Keanu Reeves movies? She does. She does. And how about Al Roker, Samantha Bee, Tony Hawk, Jane Lynch? What do they love Ellie? Yeah. to listen to the show to find out. So check out Born to Love wherever you get your podcasts from Lemonada Media.

Are we rolling? We're rolling, Kate. It's, I'm, I feel like I want to come in like a steamroller right now. You just said you want to come in hot. I do. Come in hot. Okay. It's season five. It's pants season five.

This is our fifth year we're beginning. We'd be getting raises right around this time if it was on TV. I'd give you one if we had it. Back at you. But it's exciting because this is something we... thought of a long time ago and here we are still doing it pretty impressive pretty impressive and it's just fun to be here with everybody who's like stuck with us this long hi everybody happy new year happy new year it's

2025, which is also, I realize every year that changes, pants will be that year. Oh, that's so great. You were born on 2020. Right. We're pandemic babies. Right. So we're five years old. That's right. What else? It's just great. I just feel like it feels, I feel this sort of like a rebirth, a pants rebirth. Well, pants has a big year coming up. Yes. But I also just feel like a new. What do you call it? Like I feel a fresh... Rejuvenated. I do. I feel rejuvenated. Well, it's a big year.

And that kicked off first thing this morning with a bunch of emails. And I thought, okay, here comes the new year. And I didn't mind it because you know what? It's a bunch of people trying to make our dreams come true. Yeah, I didn't mind it either. The holiday always seems to...

take a pause on everything that has momentum. So I was happy that the momentum kicked right back up the moment I opened my eyes. I was like, great, no one missed a beat. Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom. And then I showed up and this place was clean as a whistle. You did a great job.

Well, here's what happened the other day because I closed this door, you know, when Pants stops. And I don't really come in here unless I have a reason to, which I don't really have a reason to. You didn't set intentions for the new year in the Pants studio?

I set them outside of the pants studio. So we could set them inside for sure. I'm into that. I just didn't know if you felt like a spiritual draw to this place when I wasn't around. The spiritual draw was I got to clean this fucking place because it's so dirty. So a couple of things happened. that have been bothering me since the beginning i bought that rug on etsy right right before the blue couch showed up i was like oh i should grab a rug so it was the perfect size and it showed up

I put it down. And from that moment, I was like, what is that little weird smell? And it's not like it was gross, like, ew, I can't be in this room. But it was like, you know, when you open a door and you're like, something's off. I think it was the rug.

So it always bothered me and I was like, it has to be the rug because it was never here before the rug. And I knew it wasn't the blue couch because that was sort of a, you know. Did you get on your hands and knees and give a smell test? You have, oh. I did. Actually, I did. And I was like, well, the thing with a rug that I'm finding is like, it's so subtle. You can't, you can't pinpoint it.

Oh, I know. You know what I mean? So like it kind of didn't work, but I trust it. Unless you get on your hands and knees and do a sniff test. No, even that. Even that. It's like it sort of just takes over. Everyone's going to gross out. They're probably going to stop listening to Pants after this. But it was like a subtle, it was like a foot, kind of like a foot smell.

It was a musty. But more like feet. It was a musty smell. Not a foot smell, like too many shoes. It's a musty smell. Yeah, and it had, I mean, it came from overseas. It could be from like 1910 as far as I know. Yeah. Right? Who knows how many people have walked across this thing? I have the Bissell Egg Carpet Cleaner, which...

Anyone who has a pet, I'm telling you right now, it's mandatory to have in the house in case they have accidents. I could have come over with my egg bissel and cleaned the rug. It's really satisfying to do. I love that idea for like an accident. So if you ever accidentally pee on the rug, I'll be like, next time bring your... I'll bring the bristle when I... But it was more like...

The whole thing would have to be cleaned. And then it would have smelled like carpet cleaner, which would actually make me throw up. Actually, I've gone through many a carpet cleaners trying to find the perfect scent and I found one. I can't take any fake scents of any kind. No, no, no. This smells really good.

It smells really good. I'm going to mix it right here. It smells really good. It smells really good. So you're saying you like the smell. The reason I know this is because I bought it because... We have pets, and Charlie threw up last night on the rug, and I had to clean it, and that cleaning solution is a game changer. Okay. Well, here's what I did. I'd promote it. I just can't remember the name. I could show it to you, but I can't remember. No, I believe you.

What I ended up doing was taking the rug out. So let me tell you, I was here by myself. I had to move all the cameras, all the lights. I measured before I moved them because I knew the framing was a thing. Don't fuck up the framing. And then I... Took it outside. It's still out there. It's so heavy. I didn't know what to do. I might need your help. But there it went. The smell went. Where is it outside? Then I really got on my hands and knees with soap and water. And I scrubbed the floor.

Cinderella, did you use a – I moved the couch. You didn't use a Swiffer? You really – I got a – I did one of these. Wow. Like Cinderella. Wow. Wow. Well, I came in here today and this place was – I'm not done. Oh. Okay, then. Sorry. Then, well, I'm just telling you what happened. Okay. So then the shelves that I put up before you bought the pants sign. Mm-hmm.

everything was off because there were two shelves and then that pants sign was at the bottom it always bugged me so I took the shelves down hung the pants sign properly put them back up and one of our listeners and I have to give this person credit yeah was like Has anyone noticed that the backing is still on the pants line? Oh. And so I took the backing off. That's it. But I also was, I was scared of the reflection. Right. It's working out great. Great.

Anyway, these were huge changes. The place felt different. Well, it looks great. It came in. It felt really fresh. It feels better, right? This section looked different. I just couldn't pinpoint it, but it's a lot cleaner. Well, there's only one.

I know. I know. We didn't have enough. My whole tchotchke dream, Pan's tchotchke dream, has kind of, I don't want to say didn't work, but it wasn't, didn't come in as quickly as I wanted. I know you think I'm blaming you. I'm not blaming you. I'm just saying. I took the dolls out. Maybe cottagecore isn't the pants vibe. It's not cottagecore. It's pants tchotchkes. I think if we opened up... gifting pants we might people could send stuff but we'd need an address we'd need a lot

Let's not. I know. I knew you were going to say no. So I've never done that. Only because then there comes thank you notes. And then you feel like beholden to say it's just a lot. And it's no. It's special the way it is. I mean, Katie bought us. So Katie got us these beautiful new pants ornaments. So those went up. I'm glad that you held some old school merch. That hat is always going to be my favorite, the one up top. Yeah.

Anyway, we're getting there. And I was like, this is what we have. Yeah. I'm going to stick with that. I would have come over here and helped you. I'm sorry I didn't. You need help by getting... pillows and you need to help by getting, you can get us a new rug. I'll get us a new rug. I would have come over here to help you clean though.

But my mother-in-law was with us for a very, very long time, weeks and weeks. And so the day that you were on your hands and knees with a bucket of water, we were at the airport. Right. I didn't need it, by the way. I wasn't like, oh, God, if Kate was here. Well, you texted and you're like, I'm cleaning the pants to you. Happily, though.

Okay. I was like, New Year. I was happy. I couldn't have been happier. Okay, great, great, great. Well, thank you very much. Oh, my God. You don't even need a thank you. You're welcome. We were at LAX. All right. Pants will be right back after these ads. This show is sponsored by BetterHelp. Happy 2025 everyone. Tell us, give us the Brazil breakdown. It was wonderful. Brazilians, when they come to California, you got to make it count for something because it's a long journey. So you don't just stay for four days like we do. So she was here for a few weeks. I adore her. She took Mo for walks every single day.

Because she was like, I want to walk around. So Mo went on a walk with her every single day to the point where I'd say after day two, Mo would wait by the door, expect waiting and looking at her like, are we? Are you going for a walk or what, lady? I bet Matt's crying already. Oh, she's completely depressed. Yesterday she sat by the door waiting for her to come back. And then there were numerous baking adventures.

I think you experienced some of them. I mean, I'm going to give my whole take on this, but I'm letting you. My goodness. That woman can bake. And everything is perfect. You finally had the Brazilian carrot cake. What did you think? It was unreal. Am I right? Kate, first of all- Am I right? Like I said, it's better than this American over sugar fucker cake recipe that we have. It's better, isn't it? No, Irene's – well, she said to call her Irene. I know you say it differently.

No, she tells me to call her Irene too. Me too. She tells every – She doesn't want to hear the struggle. She's like, please, go with Irene. Please don't – yeah. So Irene is my favorite person that – was my favorite person at all of your parties. Uh-huh. I gravitated towards her. I love her energy. She's a great communicator. She's interesting. Very, very. And she is an incredible baker. My favorite cake, and I know you're...

birthday cake was the carrot cake. With the brigadeiro on top. With the brigadeiro. My favorite cake was the one on Christmas Eve. You like the Christmas cake. Holy shit. Irene's famous Christmas cake. And what happened was... Well, she said she would bake me one and it's okay. It didn't happen. But what I was supposed to do that night was take a big chunk home. Yeah. And I forgot.

Alicia? All I wanted the next morning with my coffee was that. You missed out. That cake is crack. She baked that cake. What is it though? Will you tell everyone what it is? It's a Christmas cake. And again, it's so much better than our version of... what a Christmas fruitcake is. Hers is so, it's just, there's something gingery about it. There has like sort of a gingerbread flavor or texture to it. And then there's some nuts in it.

Totally happy with a nut in a cake. There's some apricots in it. There's some raisins in it. I think there's a little cinnamon. It's so delicious. And I don't like dried fruit and pastries, but this is different. It's different.

So delicious. Can I tell you what it reminded me of minus the chocolate? There were no chocolate chips. No. When we shot in Vancouver, there was a health food store called Capers. Oh, Capers. Remember Capers? How could I forget? It was like the Whole Foods of Canada. Yeah.

and they had a cookie called the power cookie. The power cookie. Do you remember that thing? Yes. And this is back when I was running, and I thought like, I know it's a cookie, but I was like, oh, I can have a power cookie. You got us all into these power cookie things. I got everyone into this power cookie.

I would get a bunch before I came home for the weekends and stuff. I'd have them here. When the show was over, Jennifer started whenever she would come down. She'd bring you a power cookie? She'd bring me power cookies. Bless her heart. Because she knew. That cake reminded me of those cookies. No shit. That's a huge compliment. And it had a little cinnamon-y thing. Damn. That's a really good association.

The Canadians are like, we know exactly what you're talking about right now. But what was the name? Do you remember the name? Power cookie. That's what it was called? It was called the power cookie. Maybe that's where I associate it. Maybe. Because to me, it was a deep-seated sense memory that came flooding back in a second. So it's like power cake. That's what I'm going to call it.

for the first time years ago, I had an immediate connection to it as well. The subconscious. Maybe that's what it was. But this cake is out of control. And the moment it comes out of the oven, I'm picking... at it and I'm always like I always have my I'm always cutting off slices and so I spent

every single day eating that Christmas cake on top of the carrot cake, on top of- And then your birthday cake. And then the birthday cake. And then, I mean, the pastries. She even baked us a cake before she left because she wanted us to have something when she was gone. You wouldn't wilt away. Yeah. So last night we were watching-

Watching the Globes and I was eating the cake. Yeah. And I couldn't have been happier. That's amazing. Okay. You're, okay. So I got to come over for the Christmas Eve, the Brazilian Christmas Eve I've heard so much about. It was good. It was. Unbelievable. Right? Unbelievable. Yeah.

Just like this spread down the counter. You can have whatever you wanted. You could go back for seconds. It was outstanding. It was outstanding. Then you had us over again for your birthday. Yes. That's right. The carrot cake. Yes. Brazilian carrot cake. Yes. Also delicious. Amazing. And then Ana was making homemade pizzas.

In the oven. Oh, I know. But not just for everyone. It was like a personal pan pizza. It was like a chef's table's birthday. She'd be like, okay, your pizza's next. Not like, hey, here's pizza for everyone. No. What do you want on your pizza? customizing it i think she had fun doing it too she did yeah and then she put them in the oven they came out we were all just like it was good right it was great

Yeah. Did you have a good time at your birthday? I think so. I don't remember much of it. You don't remember? Yeah, it was great. Really? Yeah, it was lovely. I had a great time. What do you mean you don't remember much? Because it feels, honestly, it feels like three weeks ago, even though it was a week ago. Maybe last week. I know, but that's that time of year where there's a holiday after a holiday. And so Christmas feels like it was four months ago already. Right.

Do you want to tell everyone what I got you? I know you have to think for a second. Yeah, you got me a... Kickin' gift. I never immediately gravitate towards gifts. And we were sitting there and you're like, do you want to open your gift? Well, I was excited. You're like, can you open your gift? And I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, let me open it. I didn't realize how much I needed this.

So I open up this gift and in it is a handheld chainsaw. Okay, but not what you're thinking. And it's a cordless handheld chainsaw. Tiny. It's a mini. And even says on the box, perfect for seniors. Totally. Which I hadn't seen. I knew it had a guard on it. I thought that's why you bought it. No, I'll tell you why I bought it. Because Kim bought one for me.

and it shows up one day randomly kim likes to get me things for no reason which is like a very cute quality she's like i got you something what is it did i open it and it's this tiny it's a mini chainsaw because i have one that's like Me too. Big. And it's scary and it's also annoying because you're like, do I want to get in that mood to really be like that? You also need both of your hands to use it. Everything. You just need to think. This is like you snap the battery on.

It's a great cup of tea. Thanks. And it's like, what, six inches, the blade? It's nothing. The blade is that, and then there's the handle. So I'd say all in all, the tool is about that big. Yeah, like... A foot and a couple. It's cordless, so you just slap the battery into its butt and you hit it on. Go to town. I didn't know I needed this. She like, for some reason, I guess someone in her, I think either her mom's friend had one or something. So she told Kim, Kim gets me this.

I spent three days in the front yard. Did you notice it looks totally different? No, but I will. I feel like you're not noticing things today. You're like. Maybe not. We'll wake you up. Anyway, it's totally different out there. I'm going to go peruse. Yeah. When you, when you leave, it is half the size of everything. Everything's half the size. The trees, the, everything is like. That thing. Got it. Got it. It cuts. It got spanked. All my trees. It cuts branches like butter. Like butter.

It's out of control. It's so much easier than any other tool I have. Right. And so I'm out there in those couple of days and I was like, I have to get this for Kate. Like she doesn't even know she needs this. I didn't know. She doesn't know. I had no idea.

And I saw Io, I saw his eyes light up. Like, what's that? He got really excited. It is really like a magical little tool. It's a really, really neat tool. And it's that handy thing you don't think of. Or you think, oh, I have an alternative to that. No, you don't. This thing is... the shit yeah it's one of the best things I think you've ever given me wow hands down okay um

I'm going to use it. I still want you to watch your hands like even because it's so easy to use. You're kind of like, here's my fear. Here's my fear. You're like holding a branch and then you take the thing. You forget your hands there. Don't let that happen. Oh, I see. I think I'm careful. I know. We're all careful a bit. I think I'll be okay.

I'm very mindful when I'm using sharp objects. It's like those little reminders you don't know. Absolutely. Maybe you didn't know you needed that. It was a great gift. I'm just glad you're enjoying it. I'm loving it. I'm sorry I didn't get any video, but I'm too busy using it. It's okay. Is everyone still doing content? Is social media still happening? Is it still happening? Leisha, hold on.

We'll be right back. We are in peak cold season and without Christmas lights, it's just gross outside. And I need something to spark some joy on long winter nights. Something I love to do. Treat myself.

Okay, so anyway, it's the new year. Do you have any ideas of what you'd like for yourself this year? I do. Okay. Do you want to share them or are they private? Really? Okay.

It's okay to want things. There's plenty of things I want, but I feel like you say it out loud, for me at least, I keep it quiet. If I say it out loud, it takes away its power. So I just keep it quiet. Do you think it takes away its power? Are you superstitious? Maybe a bit of both. Really? Okay. And it's not that I walk in with... With resolutions, it's more like intentions or things to be mindful of. Things to be mindful of. Yeah. Like in what?

In terms of perfect example, here's one I will share, is knowing my own value. I think I've hit the point in my life. I actually thought about this driving over here. I don't know why. It's nothing about. this, where I thought, I know my value well enough to know I'm worth more than what's being offered.

I think this is an amazing thing to know about yourself. Whatever that is. It doesn't even have to be monetary. It could be anything. But I've hit a point where I'm done playing nice and compromising. It's just a matter of like, if that doesn't really register with me, I'm not going to.

not trust my instincts any longer because it always gets me in trouble. I think that's an amazing, an amazing like awareness about yourself. I think we all need to have that because we're all valuable. And I do think that's something that like life can beat you down slowly. Absolutely. And you don't realize it's happening?

And you start believing. Or you start doing things because you feel like it's expected of you when you know deep down you don't have an interest in it. And that wears you down and you get resentful. And I don't want to feel that way. Right. This sort of.

Maybe it's because I'm a year older. I think it's just life experience. Exactly. And it's about also waking up to these things, right? I think we can, I think, I know for me, I've been a little bit on autopilot for a couple of years and I'm done with that. Okay. I feel very awake. Okay. What does that mean though? I feel like I'm just sort of, I don't know. I feel like I'm alert, like I'm mindful of.

Things I want, things around me, like allowing myself to dream bigger. Right. I, you know, and I think it's okay to want things. And I definitely think, you know, dreaming is. Yeah. What are like sort of life's purpose? Yeah. Yeah. And I think I've been on autopilot for a while and I think I was asleep and I felt sort of awake.

I don't know how else to say it. That makes sense. I completely understand. Then what we're each saying pretty much goes hand in hand. Yeah, they're similar. Yeah. Okay, so what else? About what? I don't know. What else you got? New year, and we made it through another holiday season. We all did it. Good job, everybody. It felt long this time, didn't it? Didn't the holiday feel long?

I looked at the calendar and thought, oh, there are easily two and a half weeks here where it's just going to be silent and everyone is checked out. And I was right. Yeah, I had one of the greatest. holidays ever I feel like completely different I needed it I felt like I used it Yeah, used it accordingly. I saw friends I hadn't seen. I went to some fun parties. I played games. I went dancing.

Where'd you go dancing? I went to a class with Katie. Oh, that's right. You did that one. I went, I don't know. I just was like, I needed it so badly that I feel so different. Had a great holiday and just staying very quiet. I know we had mother-in-law in town, but she was super easy. And it was so nice just to not have. anything on the agenda and just do whatever needed to be done that day. And it felt fantastic. I watched so many movies. It was so, it felt so good.

It was so nice just to like be present with the animals and just enjoy what was there. And everything felt very simplified. And I loved every second of it. And then last night I thought, all right, I'm done. Let's start the week off. Everyone needs to get back to it. Not to mention, I'm happy that this year, this new year has started.

And the first real work week began because this year is going to be so crazy for us because we have a book coming out in six months now. Now we don't say a book comes out next year. It comes out this year. This year, 2025. It comes out in six months. It comes out June 3rd. Actually, less than six months because the day we're recording this is past January 3rd. So, holy shit.

This is real. It's so exciting. I just want to remind everybody it's available for pre-order. Where is it available? It's available on sogayforyou.com. And please spread the word because it's really important to get these pre-orders. It really helps us a lot. And thank you for the help. We appreciate it. We're very, very, very grateful. Incredibly grateful.

Your support, and it's going to allow us to do a book tour, which we're going to do in June. Yes. Maybe late May, some of them. No, early June. And then... We're going to go to some major cities so we can meet people, talk about the book. I still want to read out of the book, which you weren't sure about. I'd like to do that.

If it makes sense, yeah. I don't think we're there yet in the terms. Yeah, just things I want to do. And then we're going to do an audio recording. We have the audio recording coming up, actually. Yeah, so it's going to be available on... But to hold the book, too, is going to be cool. And I'll tell you why that's going to be special from the audio version. And feel free to get both. That's great. The pictures. We have pictures in this book no one's ever seen.

I just want everyone to know these pictures are so important that I flew home to Philly a few days earlier than what I had planned to because I had to get a picture that only my mom has and FedEx it to New York to get to Hannah so they could put it in before the picture. deadline. That was my commitment. I have to get home and I have to get this photo because she's not going to know where it is.
