Welcome to another very chilly episode of Overshadowed. This time we're in the steps of Mongolia Flophouse Comedy Club located in Ulan Bator, Mongolia. So thank you for joining us. This week. We are covering the brother. Or should I should I say the theme of the podcast? Probably.

We cover the siblings and spouses of people who change the world. So that's pretty exciting. You didn't know about these people before. You only knew about their famous siblings. But now we're bringing the overshadowed into the light. So we're talking about Genghis Khan's blood brother. Jamaica. Jamaica. Jamaica is a good way to say it. Yeah. That you'll come to find out. They have a very cool story. Really? A relationship. They were friends, They were rivals. They were friends.

They were rivals. And then somebody meets their demise. They were flipping. Yeah. I wonder who's the one you never heard about The Now might be a bit of a but who's the one whose name we've gotten wrong for centuries? Chin Guess. Yeah. That's Angus's correct pronunciation, which I refused to say it sounds racist. It sounds. I don't know. I look at it like it changes. I was saying is racist. You're from Arizona? Yeah, I've been saying it a lot of feels good.

I like to imagine that's the best one that's with the first name online. Chinese store is named after. Yeah, it's the first and only name. This is the time in history where people you don't need multiple names through there. There's not enough people for that, but there are titles. So that's where Gang has got you. If you're an important enough person, you don't get a last name, you get a whole title.

There was probably a beauty con or there would have been if they allowed women, or at least that's one of the good things about these nomadic people that we're talking about, is that women had actually a pretty substantial role in society.

Yes, they're definitely respected and they were such a hard migratory life. If you're following herds and seasons, it's like everybody needs to play it. Everybody's got to pitch in the better hunting or whoring, and the women have to be administering all the the herding and taking care of the children and making sure everyone gets to the destination. Yeah, you're always on the move. Everybody back in the car. And imagine a world where women pack the car.

That's a pretty topsy turvy opposite de la ville part of. And back then the car was the horse and the horse was everything. Horse was everything. They loved the horses. Yamaoka, The guy we're talking about today, the blood brother of Genghis Khan, horse breeder, descended from a horse breed. That's the highest. Yeah. He was a very, very high society friend. And he was a good guy because at one point in time, for most of his young life, he lived as an outsider.

But I don't know, it's just silly. It sounds good. I get one thing. It's like I get why the French made it. Ganga. Ganga sound so much cooler to my white ears. Ganga sounds silly to me. Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan. You say that with some authority because you've killed millions of people and all an entire civilization. Yeah, 40 million years.

And what he did, he kind of did the thing where you take down a tree, you plant a few more because he may have killed 40, but today there's about 16 million descendants. Yeah, So that's not. That's not bad. Yeah. He used each person's head who killed. He plant them in the ground, and then new people would grow net -24 million, which is not great. But he made a dent. He did? Yes, he did. He tried to. He tried the seed and he had a system and it worked because I think.

Well, fucking and also, like when he would come into when he would conquer the other cities, like he would kill the highest people in that city. So there would be like no more, you know, high class. A lot of people would try to get along with those people, but then sooner or later someone's going to backstab the other. So he's like, Look, I know I'm getting along with them. It's just prolonging the the Yeah. So that's why he was like, I'm sorry, guys, I got to cut all your heads off.

I just can't. Yeah, there's going to be some firings after the merger. Yeah, statistically, you're going to fuck me, so. Right. Got a I'm just going to. That's one really interesting thing that I liked learning about this is that Genghis Khan, his motivation for at least his early life, was just to, like, live in peace. Yeah. And not have, you know, his father poisoned or, you know, for his wife to get taken. But he's like, he just wants to kind of live a normal, peaceful life with his wife.

But then, you know, tribes. B War and and raiding tribes. We war has bread and dude, maybe pillage and maybe pillaging. Yeah. If he grew up with the luxuries of today, he would probably just end up a yoga teacher. Yeah, he probably just be a chill life coach out in Key West. Yeah. Hot cow dung yoga. Yeah. Yeah. His environment shaped him. Totally Wasn't a bore. Like how serial killers, they say, like they have this he became. Yes, Yes, he became a mass and was born in the shadows.

Yeah. Genghis Khan. And this was pushed into the shadows. Yeah. Over and over again. Right. He kept trying to claws way out. His only way out. Yeah. I think maybe the fourth time he was shunned from society. Yeah, It was like, because he would go somewhere and meditate in the forest. Yeah, try to. He did have a few forests. He probably took some bloomers, went into the woods and just had a few forest experiences. Yeah. He's a horse himself. Yeah. You ever do that though, as a kid? You ever.

Or like young adult, you ever go into the woods and just, like, think about stuff or the desert, you know, you would know, Really, I'm going to walk like I lived. A Yeah, we had a wash. But like, there's really nothing to you, Charles, is there? No. You just live in your life. I wouldn't go and think as a kid. What would you think of that? Well, I think when I maybe when I was, like, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life.

Maybe, like, early college or something, just going for a walk through the woods and being like, What is it all for? You know what I mean? I resonate with gang is as a young kid, being like, What are we doing, Genghis? What are we doing out here? What are we doing, kid Genius? He's watching the trees sway in the breeze. He's like, What does it all mean? I focus. Yeah, I guess. In that way, Yeah. he meditative force. He wasn't. He was a meditative guy. And he wanted peace.

And you never had, like, a long walk where you think about what you're doing with your life. Yeah, but not when I was, like, his age. Not nine, but, like, 16. Seven, Like, cause that's when he became. He's like, All right, I got to kill everybody if I want to survive. No, I wasn't doing long walks and thinking about my life. It is cool that I have Genghis Khan and then be kind of an irrelevant country now. But you still have him be like, he's everywhere. They've already proved themselves. So that's how you see Guy came by his wife. So I think the story is, at least according to the secret history, which, you know, is probably written by the Mongols for the Mongols, so that we think highly of them.

But I think the plan, at least as recorded, is you see, gay was trot and ptarmigan through the plains to get a merchant wife, but not to steal one to actually do a legit do it right this time because well because even the score I think he also ptarmigan the dad was doing it for terrorism because ptarmigan was like a shy little sad boy. so Ptarmigan calls a Coral Time, which is basically a vote where people people followed him from Jamaica's, you know, tribe and September temperatures like I think we got I think we got something here. Maybe we run for time. Yeah maybe we do a little play for calm have always been this into a play for gone and so we got the coral die which is just the public vote, where you vote with your feet, which means that if you show up that you voted so which like, who's with me?

And you know, he looks around and there's like a dozen people. And so a lot of people didn't show up, which is a vote of, you know, little to no confidence, intelligence leadership. Jamaica thinks he's some fucking woodland child who's just a phase. He's a fad. You know, he's not he doesn't have the right stuff. So he attacks time again with his, you know, vastly superior force and 10 million fleas. But they capture some people.

Jamaica, what he did with the people that he captured, he beheaded the leader that he captured a general or something. And then he boiled 60 prisoners alive. Yeah. And he's like, how fucking sick is that? Yeah. And it was like, ooh, it's like we're going to drink their boiled bodies now and then Rock and roll, you guys. Everyone's like, Dude, that was way too much. That was a lot of 60 boiled people. Yeah, that was like, you know, much.

If I knew that's why you asked me to get water, I would not have made this trip. I thought you were going to take a bath. You said, Give me hot water. Yeah, I thought it was like tea or a vat. I didn't think it was going to be kind of a mini genocide. Anything? Yeah. I wonder what they boiled them in and how many they fit in it. What it was also was a boiling water that you force. Like what if there was a hot spring and they made someone get in it and they just stood around it like, No, no, no,

What you should have done is broken each of their backs with a spear. Yeah, If you want them to get a royal dead. Yeah, that would have been the nice thing. I'm just a jerk. Maybe it was boiled milk. Now they wouldn't waste milk. That would be. I would flip the damage and immediately. Yeah.

If he wasted wasted milk on killing 60 people. Yeah, that's true. And that sends 60 people to heaven. You boil the milk. Yeah. That's probably a holy way to die. Yeah, It's got juice. Yeah. Yeah. So some people do go to some, some people defect. Determination because of the brutality of. Yeah. Of the boiling. The great boiling was frowned upon by a lot of people so we got some defectors. But James is still in the fight.

He still has a lot of support from some other, you know, quote, aristocrats or just like high blooded people, other horse breed and cons out there. So in 1201, Jamaica could have been Genghis Khan if this succeeded. I mean, he would have been probably not, though. He wouldn't have a I don't think he had the spirit in him the whole time. He didn't have the. Yeah. He didn't have the spirit of ten. Great on the side. Actually. That's that's what we're about to get into.

He didn't, he made a play for it to be the ruler of all Mongols. He successfully voted in, you know from the some cruelty of that he called he successfully got the title of Guru Khan, which meant universal ruler. And he chose the title again, pushing a little point, did a little needling because the last person to bear the title was own Khan's uncle, who ruled until Khan killed him. So he's basically shouting himself out as like the enemy or rival to own Khan's current rule.

So while you know what I mean, think of the way that things like, you know, the guy you killed while I'm him now. Yeah. Come back. You know I've returned. You kill him again? Yeah, I'm stronger now. Pretty cool move. Yeah, but it's. It's like it's too much. Not if you're confident in yourself. I mean, this guy was confident. He thought he was going to win. Yeah. This whole culture is about being confident. It is. It's like, It's a lot like.

That's why you see a guy drink the milk. He's like, I'm scared. No milk. I ain't scared. No, Go sit. It did at dinner. Yeah. It reminds me of, like, pro fighting shit. Talk like the week before when they're meeting. Yeah, the cons get really close in each other's ears. It's like a they almost like kissing distance, like nose to nose or poison your son, your poison, your mother just given threats, mainly poison based threats.

Yeah. Again, like, do you kind of like people are just carrying poison around. It's weird cause they're nomadic, so they just live on the move. They're like, You forgot the poison. What are we going to do? Here's our one chance we were going to. Yeah, that was kind of everything. Yeah, that was kind of everything. One are they use the poison. And I'm very interested with what they use to poison them. Yeah, I want to know. Could you make poison? Could you just make it?

And I think. I think tensions on Hong Kong side. Right. That would. Yeah, that would make. Yes. Okay. So Hong Kong's there. It's emergence there. And this is the best part to me is that shamans there are big shaman shamanic, Germanic Samantha don't shamanic everybody Deutsche Bank shot.

Well they did shamanic because they're gathered the shamans it's so funny instead of archers you just have guys with, with drums and like weird beads on their head, just trying to summon supporting spirits to control the weather and kind of turn the tides of the battle between online and million and Jamaica's forces and a thunderstorm gathers. So something like a storm does form and both sides attributed the storm to ptarmigan and and Hong Kong shamans, which is hilarious to me.

They're like, no, that's our thunder. And like, that's their thunder. And it's so funny. It's like, that's a huge vulnerability to have superstitious people is that they're one lightning strike away from like half the people deserting. Yeah, because they think God is against them. I wonder how he claimed it. If it's like lightning strike and I know he's like, that's mine. Yeah. He tries. He's trying to time it. Yeah. Like he's trying to raise his bow to time.

Yeah. With a lightning strike. Come on. Is, is. It was like whoa, holy shit. I act natural. All this is fucking sick. This is so sick right now. Perfectly time. It is a buzzer beater. Yeah, it's a trick shot. Yeah. I wonder if he walked away. Rally the troops is a is a sweet trick shot very with ten degrees is so cruel to is like that's ours They're like I don't think so Come on that looks like a temporary look. He's on top of a cliff. They all have a coordinated dance. Yeah, that's really doing it for me. Really? Seems like this is hell in the storm. It really seems like they're event. The key is to sell the storm after you claim the storm, a lot of people fuck up, They claim they don't, then they srebnick. They don't. They don't follow the shot. You got to follow your shot with the coordinated routine. I do like imagining them before the battle. Like, that's part of the prep, the sharpening their arrows.

They're like, all right. And a one and two to claim the storm. Remember, smile. Believe you're a warrior. You want to be here and you are an actor. Now let's act like we're victorious. Be the storm. Yeah, either thunder. So as you know, as Jamaica and Ptarmigan keep kind of trading battles, Tameron keeps advancing his position. He keeps growing troops. He's like integrating people he's defeated into his his army. So he keeps gaining gaining traction. But it kind of is equal.

Like Jamaica is definitely a force to be reckoned with. Yeah, for sure. And could have just won and killed him. Like if there wasn't a thunderstorm, who knows? here it is. Okay. Do you remember this where time again proposes that his son Mary on cons daughter to kind of I think, join their tribes near the end of Owen Khan's life. Yeah, well, that's basically what happens. But it's really weird this son and son, I don't even know what his name is.

And I refused to learn it because I think he's a little bitch. He advised on Khan to reject the proposal. yeah? Why was that? I think because he was, like, jealous and intimidated of his father and didn't think that he could live up to it. That's what I understood from the from the secret history. That was the tears spilled about him. Was this the chill son? Because he was rumored to have, you know, the three sons and one the one was the Chilkoot. That sounds like a slur.

Maybe like that. Maybe one of the chilkoot. Because when Cameron got older and he was dividing up his empire, he brought in his three sons and two of them were like alpha males, and one of them was a choom, was that I might have been the bastard baby. Probably his only illegitimate son actually taken after a baby. Yeah, you're right. It's boy time again. it was weird to me that. That secretly tamilian son was like, you got to. I We can't do this. I'm a fraud. I'm nobody.

Just let me lay low, loser. Yeah, I'm angry. What the hell am I being weird to picture Genghis Khan son being like I'm now I'm. No, I'm not him. Well, that was to you, Sergei. Yeah. You mean you should have beat him? Yeah. I mean, I guess he should have lived a harsher life to be forged in the fire. The damage in was he? I guess he had a pretty cushy life. If your dad's damage and no one's fucking with you.

not at all. Yeah. So, yeah, I mean, all the wives you want, you're getting all the respect you want, you getting all the silk. Maybe he's like, I don't want to marry your, you know, because now I got a bigger target on my back. The more power I get, the more it's. I mean, I don't know. This guy just seemed like he wasn't really down to to play play the role that history wanted him to play like on. Yeah, he didn't even want to play. He said, I'm out some. Maybe he was just gay.

Maybe he just was like, I couldn't do that to you. It was just honorable, right? And she's also not a guy. so now I'm kind of in a pretty tough position. Because he's like, All right, so the son doesn't want me to, but what do I tell him again? He doesn't want to rat on damage and sun, which I totally would have done. Yeah, I would have been like, Hey, I'm sorry, but your son came to me and was like, I can't do it.

So I don't know what you going to do about that or leave him in the closet, but give me another son. Yeah, I need it. Yeah, he's a dud. But I don't know why you turned on him. I guess Tamsin is becoming too powerful. Once you become too powerful, everybody just turns on you. Yeah, of course. So he devised the tricky little plot. You know what you want to do? So you come over for some celebration of this marital agreement. Just you. You guys. Just you.

And then Tamsin was like, Hell, yeah, I'll do that. Let's party. Let's drink some milk. plug the earth hole and have a nice night and poop. Yeah, He said it was Wake up fans. Are you say if do for her. He said that that sort of bender is. I could smell it. We're close. It's going to be crazy. That shit is burning. They plug that up. The guy's really stinky. You're like, You need to get your life together, man. Yeah, we're migrating in like a day. You need to be ready to be set before we move.

Yeah, this is the bad luck, cause I starting over. So Tamsin goes, Hell, yeah. I'll be there in a little bit. He brings, like, a team of a few dudes, you guys. And luckily enough for them again. Yeah. An ally of his on okay cons property. He's like, chillin and on the way he's like, in root or. Yeah yeah he's but he's he's around he hears of this he stampedes towards him again, catches up with them and says hey, here's a plan. They want to kill you. Yeah. They don't want to party.

They got a huge force of. Yeah, it doesn't look like a party, you know. Yeah. There they shields. Is gravestones going? I don't hear anyone setting up for music. Yeah. And then tambourines sad disappointed damage and said this is heart's been ripped out from him again so many times Every man every male figure in his life leaves him, fails him. It's got to cause a little bit of a, Yeah, my worthy complex. Sure. So he. But he is. Because Duncan's scared of him.

Yes. That's the real reason He's doing integrity. And he's a smart guy, so he probably realizes that. But in the moment, he only doesn't. He doesn't have any options because is always what the couple of people. So all he can do is flee.

So this is a real testament to Cameron's whole 20 year effort that it's this is the of all of his methodology is basically about treating people equally, about distributing loot equally, you know, not being so brutal to to the noncombatants, basically, that you captured the non leaders that you capture because Tamasin he's scattered to the wind. You know, he's like he sends a messenger of like, hey, go rally the troops.

But I can't be there. Like, I got to go to the woods and think I got to go for a walk. So if you could rally the troops and even without damage and presence, Boss isn't even there. Everybody gathers together and meets up and makes it to or like, you know, he amasses an army when he's not even there. Yeah. All right. So I don't really remember where Jameka and Ocon fled, but I know they pursued them. A large America made it across the border behind some walls. Yeah. do you remember what avenue?

It's such an unceremonious death. He goes up to the border, and they're like some guard. He's like, Who are you? yeah. I'm like, I'm on Khan. And he's like, he's like, You're an old. You're an old, weak man. Yeah. and then he just kills. Yeah, he just stabs him. Which, I mean, even if he's not on Khan, you're just going to kill an old guy who doesn't know who he is. Still barbaric to kill an old guy with. No, no. What the fuck do you think maybe is a little dark? You don't recognize him?

You think in the morning that guy was like, dudes. Yeah. My bad. I'll just say this. Your eyes can be too narrow, too. You got to let some demons and this guy could get out. They can help, you see? Yeah. Just brutal to see a guy. Just. I mean, if he is what you think he is, then he's a man with Alzheimer's. lost at the wrong house. Right? So don't kill him. You know, put give him a blanket and try to find a yard for him to sleep in for a sec. what's a guy who's, like, a power hungry?

It's what he wanted to do. That's why he joined the forces to kill any guy, right? He knew. He knew. That first was my phone. yeah, it was. I swear, it was a spear that wasn't really. Really. He tried to kill me. Yeah. Now he's just 11 800 hours Ocon Who I later learned was young Khan, drew his spear. I had no other choice but to return. Follow suit like an idiot. I later found out the weapon was. A can of milk. But it was lethal. Yes. Very sad. Sorry about that. He was on his way out anyway.

And Tamsin was going to kill him anyway. So old man Khan dies. Old Guy Khan. So long. Khan stands for old guy kind eyes daikon radish. Yeah. And then tamarind follows, you know, eventually catches up to Jamaica, captures him, and then gives him a honorable death breaking his back with a spear man and letting no blood. You know, they had a thing about spilling blood. You know, it would, like release evil spirits that would, you know, jump into the round eyes. Wow. Bloodstream.

Yeah. So, yeah, if you spilled blood, that would like anger the sky. God. So. So it was a royal death to be, like, to have your back broken. my God. It sounds awful also to death. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That you'd put. They'd put it like this, like, like Christ or something. So your arms are out and then a spear is like, put through your sleeves or whatever. And then a guy just holds it and like, puts his foot on your back. It doesn't seem a very honorable way to die. yeah.

you're not strong enough. Just in, like, a U-shape. Yeah. Yeah. Can we get a bigger guy? No. He's busy killing someone else, but yeah, Bloodless death was a was a respected thing, man. I can't imagine the back breaking. I heard that, Jamaica requested the Honorable Death. Yeah. And he said, okay, I'll give you a. Yeah, I think for the Times termination was like a good guy. Yeah, he had to go in here. I mean, this is. This is the 1200 people kill each other all the time.

yeah, but that's normal across all societies. We can talk about some of the just briefly some of the good things that he did. Yeah. He's with the kingdom. Religious tolerance. Yeah. He didn't care what faith you practice as long as you acknowledged taxes. Yeah. I also like this that, it really seemed like the empire that he built was almost a byproduct of he loved conquering, conquering love. It was his passion.

And but he didn't, they didn't have any mind for or interest in administration, tax collection or any of these sneering. Right. Any of these, like culture, you know, higher society or like, you know, quote, civilized skills. So he would just take people that knew how to do that and move them around, just have this roving band of geeks parties. The odd horse. Yeah. Just rolling up to your it on and turn it off. Yeah, yeah. I got to go. Yeah.

See in a year or so they would have these administrators that they would just capture and and use them. It's so, it's so smart and they, it really shows you, I mean this is a leap here, but shows you how stupid Hitler was, is like killing all these skilled people. You Know doctors, lawyers. Yeah, but he thought directors, producers, comedians, agents, agents, landlords. I mean, these people could have really helped out. Yeah, they're good. But I like that they. Yeah, the Mongols never.

And I think this is why this is why they expanded so quickly and also lasted for so little time is they were on horseback. That's all they have interested in is just just roving around. You know, they can cover so much land and they're hardy people, but they that everyone else is not like them. Yeah, it's not like you're going to be able to be captured by a mongol horde and you yourself now get a horse and come with the Horde. It's like No, you guys stay here and just we'll tax you.

And if anyone, you know asks what empire you're in, you say my name. Yeah. And you can practice your religion. You do whatever you want. So that's why I think out of the Mongol Empire there was no unified there's no lasting political like. Yeah, they're just like, CEOs gone. All right. Yeah, they each operate right? They just operated like their own. And I saw him once when he took over their own situations, which is why I think, you know, people were like, sure, yeah, I'll be a mongol.

I heard they're cool. And you got access to trade. Yeah. And you got also he made sure that a lot of the silk was going through his communities, like the silk trade. You set so it would go through. Got to give back to the hood. So then you come back and yeah, I mean, everybody's wearing silk and people have knives for the first time. Yeah. So he rewarded, his people and spread the wealth. Also you could move up in his if he took, if he conquered you you could still move up within being a mongol.

I think living in the Mongol Empire, as long as you survive. The initial raid was pretty good. You could walk across the Silk Road, which is like hundreds of miles with a gold plate on your head unscathed. Yeah, that. That either was because, you know, they knew that, you know, the Khan would kill you if you interfered with trade or because they just thought that guy, you know, had had special needs. Like, we shouldn't fuck with this guy we used. He clearly. No, you know.

Yeah, that was a that was an 1150 thing. Yeah. This is 1202. Okay. Hello, IBM He just wants to watch the horses. Yeah, he just likes the feeling of gold on his flathead. It's filled with milk. Like, if you want to make me do that. And then he's like, How about I make a play for Hong Kong's position in Hong Kong is like, what television is this Your man's So control your blood, brother. Somebody come get his blood, Brother. He's acting a fool. I'm going to come out myself. Banging drum. I didn't know his blood. I didn't know our own gods. I like Tom Taggart. He does know that's what he sounded like. And kooky. All right. I think we're going to call it. They're guys. We're called.
