Gilbert is an accomplished runner, which not only saved his life, but he has also run with the Olympic torch and been recognized by the White House. Gilbert survived a harrowing attack and burning in his home country when he was a teenager, and has lived to tell the story after betrayal, trauma, escape, and recovering from burns on over 30% of his body.
