¶ Podcasting Motivation and Future Plans
How you doing man? Good man, what's going on? Not much man, just freaking here, dude, and Just here, huh? Just here trying to get trying to get back into the swing of things, man. Right. Yeah. How you been? Jared, hang on, John. There's nobody here but put you on the speaker because I'm deaf. Um So what's going on brothers doing another podcast, eh? Yeah man, just honestly like like Jacob and I were talking in the last podcast, like when uh he and I did it.
Like I would I would always want to do it man and like I had the drive to do it but I had like I don't want to say no ambition, but like I had no topics and I guess a little ambition to do it. I mean Yeah. Like I would be like, okay, like I wanna do it. Like but I'm like as soon as we would hit record We would just stare at the fucking computer screen for like ten minutes and not say a word. And we'd be like, What do we say? And you know, it's kinda what you mean. Yeah, man, it's kinda hard like
I don't wanna just like fake something and just put it on there either, you know. So Uh I don't know man. So I was just like, you know what, let's just get back in the swing of things'cause I'm like if not then I I kinda know what I wanna do and then like when there's days where he can't record, I'll do like probably something myself just solo. Yeah. So I'm just like, okay, hell yeah, like let's just do that then. you know we'll just talk about like certain things and we'll just kind of just
go off the top with that. So that's where that's where we were at'cause yeah, man, we would try to do it and it was kinda like half assed or We weren't really into it. Yeah. Yeah, personal shit, you know, like with him or with me or whatever and you're kinda out of whack, so yeah.
¶ True Crime Video Production Challenges
Yeah, I know what you mean. I I have the I'm I've been kinda that way with doing my video. So I know what you mean. Yeah, I was gonna say don't have much to say or or I mean I've got some ideas, but Just busy with work and it's not real motivated. Yeah, exactly. Like there's times where like I come home and I'm like, Yeah, how yeah, let's do it and there's times where I come home and I'm like, Fuck man, I just wanna like
It's been a hell of a day, just like relax, you know, so yeah, it's normal. Normal, man. Yeah, tell us to say I I noticed that man. Like I noticed you hadn't really been like um I say posting I guess and then I saw one of your videos, your recent videos, so I was like, Oh hell yeah. Yeah,'cause I was like I didn't know if you were taking a break or whatnot, you know, especially with everything going on. So Just kinda I mean I not really taking a break, just haven't been
I guess kinda taking a break. Just haven't been super motivated. I I was motivated to do that last one which I had fun doing. I went out to Cali and and uh drove all over Hell and back, all over San Francisco and up in Northern Cal and and that was a lot of fun.
But um I've been trying to get t people to talk to me about that case and it's been really hard, man. I got in contact with a several people and they you know, they give you the runaround, Oh yeah, yeah, you know, I'll I'll do it next week and I'll yeah. And you know, you gotta you kinda get to this point where you're like, I don't wanna keep calling that guy and bugging him. Yeah, like if if you wanted to do it, he would have done it, right?
Yeah, yeah, you know, and it uh but at the same time party you like really wants to bug'em. But Uh but yeah, I don't I don't like doing that, I don't like pestering people. So I've got a couple of other ones I've I've got several ideas that I want to do and get back into. It's just a matter of doing it. And I've been I've been doing some other video projects with for different things.
On my other channel. It has nothing to do with true crime stuff. Yeah, it's all good, man. I'll get back into it. I've got a I've got a lot of ideas.
¶ Vegas Living and California Relocation
I've also just been kind of sucked in my age of tank for a while. How's that going, man? How how's uh how's that going down there in V? It's okay. I mean I it's I mean the job's fine. It's everything's everything's fine. But I'm kinda I'm kinda over Vegas, man. It's so hot here. It's so goddamn hot, man. I'm like this summer I was just like Oh yeah, it doesn't sound good more about Utah, does it? No, I'm not moving back to Utah though. Yeah, we're not doing all that. Oh really?
Yeah. Well up there like uh modesto up that area or Yeah, probably up there. I mean it depends on and what kind of job I can get. Yeah. Um if I can get the job which I I'm pretty sure I can, if I can get the job that I want at the right pay, which I'm pretty sure I can, all that stuff, but it's you know, it remains to be seen. I need to Uh there's a applying for school jobs takes a lot of uh effort. They they make you jump through a lot of hoops to
You uh it was it was quite a quite a big thing to come down here to Vegas really. Just a lot of steps they make you jump through, which is fine. I don't mind doing it but Um but if I can get the if I can get the right situation, yeah, we'll definitely be moving probably a little more inland than Modesto up in the foothills. Okay.
up in the mountains, uh kind of where I'm from and it's really beautiful. If you watch that if you watch that latest video I did, um there's I put quite a bit of stuff in there, um, from that area. Um It's really it's really pretty up there, man. And another thing, man, there's some amazing true crime history up there. Oh yeah, man. I mean you're not too far away from like the Zodiac.
The whole bear. Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah, there's a ton of that kind of stuff. I mean there you know, and you know how crazy that case is with the state killer. Um but there's also there's a la a lot a lot of stuff up up in the areas like those guys they call the speed freak killers and uh Um there's the Lin of course the Leonard Lake stuff, which I'll I'll end up getting a lot more on that. Yeah. So it's good.
you know, there's several really wonderful projects to be done up there. And it's so you know so stunningly beautiful up there that I think visually you know, with my cameras and some of the some of my interview work that I'll get yeah on different things, you know, I mean it'll it'll really it'll be stunning stuff visually and the content. Um I actually got to know quite a few guys. Up in that area that were caught.
on different cases up there. I I've made contact with a lot of people and um for different cases. So I I think it's a really strong move for the YouTube channel for sure. That's good man. That's good, yeah,'cause like
¶ California Job Market Struggles
I was supposed to leave this year. Um Oh really? Yeah, I was I was supposed to leave this year, but like financial like just from last year, bro, like getting my ass whooped by fucking Not even COVID necessarily, but just like the the effects of COVID, like losing my job and catching up and etc etc like yeah man it's more like a catching up game so I'm almost there but like there was no way I was able to move like this year.
So I told myself going back to or going back to LA or No no no. Um if I could get a job doing what I'm doing right now or like at least a decent paying job, then maybe I would go back to like Cali and probably like help my grandma out, like move in with her and like just try to help her out like so she doesn't have to like move to Arizona, go like into an old folks home, you know?
Yeah, no, that's cool. But the the hard part of with that is like finding a job. Like I just went back two weeks ago. Yeah, I went two weeks ago. And um It was different, dude. Like over there, like some of my like, you know, yeah, I got some of my buddies who like I'm working with and like they have like they actually have degrees. Like I don't have a degree, but they actually have a degree and some of them are only making like
I don't know, fucking fourteen bucks an hour and like doing what they went to school for and I'm like What the fuck? Like well dude, like you have a bachelor's, you have a master's, like what the fuck are you doing? And they're like this like this is what it is. I'm like, what the fuck? Like uh that's pretty yeah it sucks man and i'm like and like if you have if you want to find like at least decent work, I would have to like move out to like, I don't know, the valley or something or
But I wanna move to the valley, man. There's a bunch of fucking there's a bunch of fucking jackhawks out there like the the fucking out the the outside area of LA, like fucking Encino and all that. It's a bunch of fucking
¶ Mask Mandates and COVID Attitudes
Assholes, bro. And yeah, you know, but over there right now, man, that shit's no joke, bro. Like, I'm kind of used to Utah. If I have to go into a store or something like I'll wear a mask, sure, you know, like I need stuff. I'm I'm not gonna be that person that's like, Hey man, you're infringing on my rights and shit. Like, no, it's pretty much like hey I need stuff, let me put him out. If I if I don't have to wear it, cool. Like cool. Okay. Right. Yeah, it's not it's not about
Yeah. It's about getting what you need to do. Exactly. Like Yeah, like am I gonna be that stubborn and like, hey man, like I'm not gonna get this because they won't let me not wear a mask. Like fuck. So but over there though bro like even if you go through like a drive thru like a dairy or something Yeah Bro they were fucking hounding me they're like you need to wear I'm gonna drive through and they're like, You need to wear a fucking mask and I'm like, You have
Yeah. I'm like, you're fucking fine. Yeah, I'm like, you're fine. Like I don't have a mask. Like If someone's gonna get covet, it's probably gonna be me. And you know what? I'm willing to take that fucking risk. I'm not going into a store, so I don't need to put my mask on. Like, you want me to put through drive-thru? I'm like, You go fuck yourself. And yeah, bro, like Yeah, yeah, they're they were going apeshit, bro. And uh Is it pretty is it pretty uh
People pretty uh aggro about wearing a mask up in Utah? Is it sound like it is? Like, I mean, obviously right here in like the Salt Lake area, because it's more liberal, which is fine, you know? Like since it's more liberal, like, you know, in downtown and like the surrounding area, e everyone's a little more cautious about wearing a mask and that's fine.
You know, if you want to wear a mask, wear a mask. Like I understand it. Like there's still this new strain that's coming out. People are getting COVID like left and right and shit. Yeah, wear a mask. But like For the most part, though, bro, everyone's pretty good about keeping their distance. And if they are going to get close to you, people will put on their mask. I will, if I know I'm going to be bunched up.
Like I don't have the fucking money or the time to like take off of work, so I'll put my mask on. I'm not gonna get sick, like you know. Yeah. So yeah, yeah. So I mean for the most part it's pretty cool man, like it's not like Fucking Texas over here where we're fucking making abortion laws and shit, you know, but it's crazy stuff, man. Paul is that she's embarrassed to be a Texan because of all that craziness. Yeah, and then
Yeah, and and that's what I'm saying, like it's it's not like that. Like it's not like where people are like literally throwing fucking fist fights. Like maybe if I was living in fucking Brigham City or some shit, maybe I'd be telling a different side, but
¶ Vaccine Mandates and Unemployment
Man, we're living in a weird time, dude. I'll tell you, man. It's a strange, strange day. Is it you know? Oh yeah, I don't know. I saw a thing where Biden tonight is actually gonna try to create a mandate where businesses, small businesses with a certain number they have people have to get vaccinated. A hundred. Yeah, I was just reading that. We just I you know, I I'm fine with that. I I think people should get vaccinated. But Um, I think it's gonna create a lot of drama. Oh definitely drama.
Yeah. So and I that's not that's not I'm not really looking forward to that bullshit. Yeah, we don't really need that right now, especially right now. Like they were saying that um Yeah,'cause it was saying something about like you would make it federally for businesses that have more than a hundred employees. to get vaccinated to get vaccinated. If not, if you don't want to get vaccinated, you have to get tested
That's the deal. So That's what it was, yeah. Exactly. Wh where where I'm at right now, bro, with like working with the kids in that mental health facility. Yeah. I know for a fucking fact, bro, if these fools try to make people fucking um get vaccinated, they're gonna lose so many fucking people, bro. It's not even funny. But where are those people going to go? That's the thing I tell people to. It's not hard to find a job right now. It's really not.
I mean there's there's fucking orc up the ante right now because you know, all these fucking unemployment motherfuckers are are done. So it's like okay, hey, like yeah, you lived your little fairy tale life, you know, come back to fucking real world, get a fucking job, like
i get it you know like some people have to fucking some people got messed up by the economy and by the fucking covid but i said i said fuck bro some of these motherfuckers are making more than me and i was over here working overtime like a motherfucker And like for real, man. I I just don't well and I mean I don't I don't know how much of this I really I don't know that much about all this, but I mean i i i didn't unemployment benefits stop too recently? They just stopped on the fourth, yeah.
On the fourth. Yeah. And so so what are people gonna do, man? People are gonna have to go back to work. And that's what uh that's what they were saying. They're like, hey, like you guys need to keep this going. And they're like, well, how much longer do we have to keep going? And that's that's why someone made like you know when you see like those cholos that get killed and they make a shirt of them with like the little fucking clouds in the background and shit?
Yeah. Someone made a shirt of like the praying hat and it says rest in peace E D D from like twenty twenty to twenty twenty one. Yeah. Uh say someone someone made a fucking unemployment rest in peace shirt. Yeah, so it's like
Like there's some people that actually really need it and like I I feel bad for those people'cause then you got some of those assholes that are fucking making like three thousand dollars at the job and they're making like fucking four K off of unemployment so they're bringing home like seven K a month. It's like
¶ Vaccine Hesitancy and Political Divide
Yeah. You know it's I don't know man, but when it'll all work out, it's it's gonna have to, like It's just it's crazy times and then all this bullshit going on with fucking you know everything abroad like in the fucking Afghanistan and all this other shit and
I mean this is Yeah and Point Biden's uh Biden's uh stepped in a lot of stuff recently. I think that you know that thing with um uh ending the benefits too, you know, and then suddenly he's mandating that people have to get vaccinated at at certain businesses, you know, that that's all coinciding.
We're probably gonna start seeing some more violence. Also I've been seeing that are aren't they starting the trials for the the January sixth protesters thing pretty soon? Isn't that happening since? Yeah, pretty soon, man. Yeah. Um they we we might see a goddamn civil war going here pretty soon. Yeah, like I mean I mean you're being serious bro, like you're not wrong. It's it's kinda crazy to fucking think dude'cause I don't know man.
You know, I mean, think about the vaccine thing then. Like people, you know, back when when I was a little kid, you know, you had and I'm sure you got it too at your age, you know, like you were vaccinated for what? Moms and chicken pops, fucking all that, yeah. And it's just a common thing, you know, because it used to be that that stuff could kill little kids. I think people I don't mean to cut you off. Like I think I think people I think the problem with people with this
Like I was reading something and it was saying that like the the flu, right? Like the Spanish influenza. Oh right. It took the it took them ten years to make a vaccine. Um for the other ones it was like fifteen years, the other one it was like thirty years, etcetera, etcetera. It took them it took them years to make a vaccine. So some people are like, How are you gonna how you gonna make a vaccine in six months and not have any truck?
Yeah, like me personally, like I don't yeah, I don't have it yet. Not saying I'm not gonna get it, I just don't have it yet, but I'm kinda like, let me see how everyone else does real quick. Like let me see how the side effects are. Let me see how the long term effects are, you know, like
'Cause it's scary. Yeah, they pushed it out pretty quick. Yeah, it's it's true. They they definitely put a rush on it. Mm. It's kinda I don't know, it's scary though, bro,'cause like you stop and you think like, Hey man, I'm putting something in my body. I know a lot of people do it all the time, but it's like...
what if this thing like fucks up your I don't know your nervous system or what if it fucks up this? What if it fucks up that? Like like maybe the way I react to it's a different than the way you react to it. Like you're perfectly fine. But maybe me, like I don't know, it fucks me up or it fucks up
Oh yeah. You're you know it fucks up your lady or it fucks up Jacob, it fucks up somebody, like I don't know. It's gonna be interesting to see, man,'cause cause shit's going off the ante right now, bro. Like I totally forgot about that whole January sixth bullshit. All these eh dumb motherfuckers, but yeah. Fuck both sides, bro. Fuck'em all. But
Yeah, it's uh it's also political, man. I hate it I hate it pains me to even discuss it with people'cause Yeah, exactly. You don't wanna you don't wanna offend your friends. You don't wanna get in a fight with your friends.
you know. But then there's some people that would say, well if they think this way then they're they shouldn't be your friend anyway, you know. It's d there's so much political shit going on right now. It's really you just gotta respect you just gotta respect everyone's fucking
point of view or try to and then just kinda like, hey man, agree to disagree, that's it. But other than that, like fuck off. You know? Like Yeah. That's why like bro there's some there's like so there's some of my friends back in Cali.
¶ Resurgence of Emmanuel David Case
I can't even talk to them just to talk to them because it it always leads to like political shit and I'm like bro what the fuck are we doing? Like what what are we doing? And they're like while we're having a conversation, I'm like, Yeah, that's fine, but we're not talking about this, like Well didn't your fucking parents tell you never talk about religion or politics? Like ever?
'Cause it always it always brings up arguments. Like it always does, you know? And um and then you know them too, they're like super fucking like well no, hey man, if you're g if you're not with us, you're against us, you know. I'm like, no, fuck
I'm not having this conversation with you. Eat a bag of dicks. Fuck off. Yeah. Yeah. So But uh I was gonna tell you, bro, so the other day, man, one of my buddies that I work with now He um he lives right next to that uh Taylorsville Cemetery, the one right there right across from the
the Salt Lake City Community College in Taylorsville off of Redwood. Sure, where the where Manuel is buried, him and his family. And he's all into like he's all into comp to conspiracies and like true crime. So he's like Yo, and he's like, Hey man, like I'd be listening he's I'll be listening to these fools. They're called Outlanders of Utah and I'm like listening to them like, Oh yeah? Yeah, he's all so they're fucking stupid, but they're funny. I'm like, how are they stupid?
because they just talk about a bunch of dumb shit, they say spigs and all this shit, and I wonder what they are, you know? Like, oh, I don't know. Yeah. And then um I brought it up on my phone and he's like, wait, what the fuck? That's your that's your podcast? Oh my god. He was like, Yeah man, I'll be listening to your dumbass and shit. And then he he didn't realize it was you. Yeah, he didn't realize it was me and my bro. I say my name a few times in episodes. He goes,
'Cause I haven't been there yet. I'm like, Oh you're probably listening to the first few episodes. Yeah, I'm listening to the first three. Like, oh So um and he goes, Yeah, he's a who he's like, Who's Captain Borax? I'm like, Oh, that's my boy and he's like, Oh, fuck yeah, cool man So I'm like, I'm gonna explain to him like your channel and stuff and like we're talking and he's like, Yeah man like
He's like, you know'cause he's like he's like, you know Emmanuel David's buried right here? I'm like, Yeah like And he goes, Yeah, I just don't know where he's at. I'm like, Oh, I do. So really? Well yeah, I'll I'll show you. He said, let's go. She take him out there. Yeah. Bro, I took'em. They have a it's gotten so um where people have been covering like I guess been writing like articles about it, trying to bring it back and stuff.
They put didn't they put uh didn't they put a uh uh tombstone? They put yeah, they put a fucking headstone, bro. I'm like, ah fuck you guys are assholes. I'm like, really? I was like Yeah and then he's like, I thought you said there wasn't no uh no headstone. I'm like, There wasn't last time I was here and he's like, Oh shit I'm like, Fuck man And he's like why you so bad? I'm like,'Cause now this shit's gonna get blown up.
Well yeah, it's like suddenly suddenly everybody's really interested in it. I put that uh I put that news. cast video from seventy eight yeah from the day it happened on my YouTube channel and that thing got a lot of attention man there was some some girl from somewhere who was had been digging on that case and she she came out glued when she saw that. She was like hitting me up on email and stuff and asking me all the shit.
So that's a that's a story that definitely came back really strong out of nowhere. Um, which is kinda kinda interesting because I'm surprised it didn't already happen. That that case is so insane. Oh yeah, for sure.
¶ Exploring Utah's Dark True Crime
Um I've thought about doing I have a I have some audio from uh from that guy that that knew them. He was the guy Um Skip his name is Skip Baines. He's uh he runs that he's got this fancy piano. store in Murray or Midville, I can't remember. Oh okay. Um just right down off State Street, way down there, like 80th South, or something like that. And um, anyway, it's been there for decades. Like he's had that shop since the 60s, probably.
Um, and he he sells really high end pianos, but anyway, he was friends with that guy, Emmanuel. Um they were they they went on a mission together back in Rock like the fifties or something. Oh okay. Um he's a really old guy, this guy skip. And I actually got him to talk to me. One day because he was the guy like when Emmanuel killed himself, he w he was Emmanuel used to go in there and hit this guy up.
uh for money once in a while and because they were old missionary buddies from when they were teenagers, but then all these years later in the seventies, Emmanuel's living in Salt Lake and there's his buddy Skip Danes, who's got this fancy piano store. And so he used to come in there all the time with his family and, you know, kind of juice up skip trying to get him.
get him to throw him out with a an inexpensive piano for a house they wanted uh to build anyway I got Skip and and then Emmanuel borrowed Skip's truck to go kill himself. Yeah, when Emmanuel like he he drove that truck up Immigration Canyon up there by the Hogal Zoo. Oh yeah yeah. And went way up there in the mountains and then I'd love to go up there and find that spot but
He tried to roll it down the hill to kill himself. He didn't he got he got it way down there and he didn't die, so he got out and he stuck a a hose in the tailpipe and then sat in a cab and killed himself that way. Um, I guess he got the car to to fire up even though they rolled a few times. But uh anyway that guy
Is still there. And I actually went in there and interviewed him one time. He he actually spoke to me for a little while. He was it was I was pretty lucky because he's kind of a hardcore Mormon and he was really, really wary about somebody. exploiting his memories, you know, or whatever. Yeah. Um, but yeah, the interesting story, man, it's just kind of kinda broke loose the last three or four years. Yeah, I was going for like
I I mean I only heard about it'cause of you, you know, so when you told me about it and I'm like listening about it and I'm like how the fuck has nobody covered this? It's kinda like I think everybody everything's so kinda overshadowed by uh Ted Bon Yeah, yeah, for sure. For sure. And then it's such a it's such a crazy interesting case, but no people have ignored it for sure. I don't know what the deal is. Yeah, then like the one that also like fascinates me too, but it kinda sucks'cause
You can't talk to anybody is uh the high fight killer's one. Like that's fucking Um Yeah. Yeah, they're just yeah, they're all fucking dead, you know. Well in and all the stuff, all the uh You know, the the hi fi shop is gone, you know. It's not there, you know, and there's very few I ran into a girl one time who knew
There was one of the kids who survived. I can't you know, I don't I don't know as much about that case as I should, but there was one of the kids who survived and I ran into a girl a while back who who actually knew him. And um she was gonna hook me up with an interview with him. Apparently he didn't mind he's he didn't mind talking about it, which is crazy considering, you know.
tortured. You know. Um but I never I never followed up. Well, I think I tried to follow up on it, but she ghosted me. Oh, did she? So there's but there's people around that you know, there's still people around, there's still evidence around, there's still I mean, a lot of police reports and things like that. Yeah. Um but it would take some digging to find that stuff.
Maybe she if she goes a crazy interesting case for more sure. She's gonna go if she goes, did you wanna be like, is uh is Captain Bars gonna have to choke a bitch? Is is Joaquin Gonzalez gonna have to do that? That shit killed me last night when I was laughing. Well, you remember that from Jack Chicago? Yeah, Chicago.
¶ California COVID Restrictions Tighten
But um have you been doing any other video stuff or anything going on like that or no so we literally just started that one podcast on Monday and then um I work pretty much all day tomorrow, but when I get home, I'm probably gonna like... I don't know man, I've been digging into like true I wanna do like kind of cold cases up here just for the time being, kinda just talk about'em and then I don't know, I think I might do like some solo shit when I'm not doing stuff with Jacob.
Just to kinda yeah, just to kinda keep me fresh and like keep it active, you know. Well I like that you're coming trying to come back, man. Don't give up. Yeah, I mean'cause I'm not giving up. Uh there's a load of stuff coming for me eventually. I just haven't It just haven't been high energy lately, but Yeah. I don't know. Yeah, for sure. And then like I don't know like when I'm'cause I Cali was cool, but it was kinda like
That wasn't shit to do bro because they're closing everything back down out there again, you know? Really? Yeah, like they were kinda starting to like they were reducing their hours and stuff and once you start doing that is when you start closing shit down. So it's funny when I was out'cause I was just out in San Francisco a month ago. Uh maybe month and maybe five weeks ago and it was it was
Boom and man, there was shit going on everywhere. It was pretty busy. Yeah, my buddy actually the one I just told you about, the one that lives right next to that cemetery. She's from uh Santa Barbara, but I think his sister his sister lives up in San Francisco, so he went to go visit her. He drove from Santa Barbara up there. And then went to go visit her. Motherfuckers weren't fucking around.
He's like anywhere you went, you wanna go to museum, you need to show proof. You want to go to restaurant, you need to show proof. You had to fucking take a shit in a gas station, you had to show proof. I was like, God damn, money. I forgot I forgot what bar it is. But they they did it so there's a bar here, but it starts with a B. I don't know which one it is, but it's in downtown. And um, yeah, they're the first one.
Like if you want to go there you have to show proof of uh having covet, like your vaccine. Oh okay, yeah, so Yeah, man, I'm wrong, dude. And you got motherfuckers over here making fake fucking vaccine cards and shit. Um I've heard about that, yeah. Yeah, some some some chick made one, I guess. I was reading a story and I was fucking laughing because she uh She was from Illinois and she went to Hawaii to go visit, right? Yeah. And um She wanna Hawaii to go visit and fucking
They were like, hey, like, where did you get this one at? Like this shows like n the person that gave it to you doesn't exist, like this doesn't exist. And I guess they spelled Moderna Moderna or some shit like that. So like everything was all misspelled, her name was misspelled. The fucking I guess she got it like in the army, so the it was like Sergeant Pickles who gave her the fucking vaccine or some shit.
And they were like, what the fuck? Yeah. So she got arrested. That shit had me laughing at. And then P yeah, just people are making fake vaccines, bro, and they're getting fucking arrested and shit. Exactly. But that's funny. Yeah, there uh I don't know man. Crazy times we live in, bro.
¶ Vegas vs. Salt Lake City Costs
Yeah, it's it was uh when I when I went down there, man, I was um I drove through Vegas. I didn't really s I didn't stop. I wanted to, but I was yeah, and um Dude, fucking Vegas, bro. I don't even think it's the Vegas drivers. I think it's just everybody driving from around the world or around the fucking s nation that's in Vegas cause bro I saw like fucking four accidents on the fifteen. Like people trying to get on and off the fucking the ramp and shit.
Yeah. Motherfuckers thinking they're fucking diehard and shit. I cut that fucking thing, and uh... Yeah, man, like, some guy tried cutting me off, and he fucking lost control, and he fucking crashed around the 15, and I was like, this... I kept driving out. I'm like fucking idiot bro. Like so yeah, like fucking gas. I saw the the price of gas right there in uh State Line. Yeah. How much is it up there in uh
at by now it's three three seventy five three seventy five oh yeah it's like four it's like four twenty or something like that internet. Really? Yeah I mean for like good range, which is I don't know. Yeah, it's expensive here. Yeah, because I um you know what online. We did stop in Vegas, but we stopped because we had to get gas on the way back from Cali up up back to Salt Lake. Yeah. And um I stopped right there right by the the training facility for the Raiders.
Mm-hmm. Yeah, and there was an Arco like an A and P M and all that. And it was three So I went to the Costco. But yeah, that was the cheap that yeah, that was the cheapest I saw because I saw like four oh five. I don't know. Yeah, it's uh it depends. I mean, you know, it's depends on what grade you're getting, but yeah, it's pretty expensive on here gas wise. But everything else
Pretty pretty I don't know. I don't think it's too expensive to live here. That's what I heard like I I heard someone's like, Well yeah it's more expensive than Salt Lake. I'm like, I don't think so. Yeah, it's moderate here. It's not it's not bad. I've actually I've been able to hang in pretty good down here. I think it's in some ways it's cheaper down here than it is in Salt Lake. I don't think so too.
I mean I can't believe I watch I watch uh I watch on Facebook, I see a lot of stuff trying to to rent or sell. You know, real estate and apartments and different things and it's freaking expensive up there, man. Oh yeah it is. Yeah, fucking our rent bro like fucking went up like four hundred dollars. What? Yeah. Four hundred dollars? Four hundred bucks, bro.
What the hell is that about? It's just because of the the ho the price of the housing market right now and the fact that no one's moving no one's really moving in or out, like, you know? Yeah. And then it was a fifty percent. So I guess like from what I was reading is that they can raise rent every other year, but when they do it's like a fifty percent increase.
Yeah. So they didn't raise that last year, but they did it the year before. And then so they raised it this year. And I'm like looking at it, I'm like Fifteen percent my aunt's like, oh you have to go complain. I'm like, no, I understand why it fucking went up. Like I understand how the the economy works but Damn bro, like I could be f I could be fine with like 70 bucks, but fucking 400? Yeah, that shit went from that shit went from like paying 19 not like 19 fucking 60. Now we're paying 20
Twenty three forty, I think, or some shit like that. Really? Really? Shit. How big is your place? It's three bedroom, two and a half baths. It's a town home, but Yeah, I was like, yeah. I was like this. Yeah, go ahead. I'm sorry. No, no, you're good, bro. Like, I just told Jacob, I'm like, yeah, this is the last year, bro. Like, I'm right here. And he's like, For real? I was like, yes, bro. Like, no. I might fill the amount of money that I'm paying. I could fucking buy a house.
Yeah, I I personally, man, I I couldn't hang with that up there. I mean, on top of top of it, just being somewhere that I don't want to be and it being expensive on top of that. Heck yeah.
¶ Utah's Homeless Crisis and Criticisms
It's not my kind of place. But um yeah, how's uh how's the other guys doing? They're good man, like Jacob. I think he I think he had gotten like a stomach virus of some sort, so he's doing okay for the most part. Um He's doing a lot better now though. Um I he was like kind of off, so I think he they made him a little bit tested just to be safe. Yeah. But I don't know what he's been up to uh I don't know like what they told
Uh Quentin's doing alright. You know, he's working at UPS or something like that now. So Yeah, well like with everything fucking going up and increase, I'm like, Yo bro, you gotta pay right now And he's like, Alright, I'm like, alright, like your free trial of life is over.
Right. Yeah my guess too. So you're gotta you're kinda you're you're doing it you're the lone crusader, huh? With this thing? Yeah man, so it's like That's what I was just like, yo like this I d this is gonna be my last year up here. so fucking expensive. I think you'd be happier somewhere else, man. I I you know, not to knock Utah, you know, I got a lot of friends up there, people I love but
Um, it's it to me is just I I don't to be frank, I just don't understand why anybody would want to live there. It just doesn't it doesn't you know when something just doesn't compute Yeah, no I believe. It don't compete with me. I don't I don't get it. But some people think about things differently. But to me it's Weather's terrible, the air quality. People with C O P D are up and up there just dropping over like flies, man. It's just terrible air quality.
Um it's shittier to wear. I d I don't get it, you know. And then you got the political stuff with the the church and all that stuff and And now on top of all that stuff it's getting expensive. Oh yeah, nah. It's expensive and they get all the political bullshit with it and as well as that you got I don't know man, it's just it's different. Like, um it's a it's a cool place, don't get me wrong. Like I love the beauty aspect of it. Like it's fucking pretty.
got the mountain, she got yeah, it's really pretty. Like if you wanna come and try if you wanna come and like visit, visit. Not live. If you wanna come visit, just Yeah, for sure. You know, like it's it's nice, but I feel like I'm still stuck in fucking... nineteen sixty three and shit, you know, like I think people people that like Utah or or want to go to Utah, they're they have a a certain kind of
I don't know, and I'm guilty of this too with California, right? You know, there's a certain kind of ideology. Like you look at Utah and if you're you're the type of person that likes the culture of Utah. Then you look at that place and you see it through these kind of rose tinted glasses. You know, say it is what it you know. But the truth is is that it's not like it used to be there, you know. Um it's not the the cute little idyllic little
city where you know the fucking Osmonds used to live, you know. Yeah. It's a big dirty city with a homeless with a homeless problem that's off the chain. Well I was up there I was up there a w the last time I went up there, I just went up for a dan, dropped something off with my son. And stayed State, I think I stayed at a break downtown, which was a mistake. Oh my god.
The whole downtown area has changed so much with homeless folks since I've moved there. It was just unbelievable. There were the whole place was like I mean it was just nothing but people camped in the on the property, in it, they're crowd in the rooms. There's like twenty people in each room. There's hookers. It was just like holy shit. Wander into East LA or something. It sounds sounds like uh a fucking Cecil Hotel, man.
Yeah, it's a yeah, I mean East not East LA but more like the more like Skid Road downtown LA kind of thing or something. Yeah, dude. Uh it was really fucking gross. I was kinda like I was like, wow. And it's always been There's always been a lot of you know, nothing against homeless folks. It's just it's just dirty because people just like leave their trash everywhere.
And the tents and all that stuff right downtown. That's just hard to believe that the city would allow that kind of thing. And that's the thing, bro. Like at least here in Salt Lake I see that they're trying to like make little like what you call it encampments, like little areas for them. But like the thing is, like with with all the homeless though, all the homeless right now are gonna be leaving.
Salt Lake because it's gonna get it's gonna start getting cold again. So what they tend to do is they tend to go down to St. George and Vegas. That's what they Yeah. Yeah. Well for a while there, for a long time. I mean'cause I I moved there in two thousand and one and left there in two thousand nineteen. Yeah. And for the longest time the you know, they had the road home was one of the big homeless shelters down there and then they had
There was the I wanna say something cross. Holy Holy Cross? Something like that. There was another one right there. there to help sort through cr I did that like three times and said, Forget this is gross, man. Yeah. Used to take I used to take the kids down there um to sort, you know, the s high school kids to sort through.
different things and I was like, what if we're certain through here one of these days and there's like a fucking gun or a hypodermic needle or something, you know? Yeah. I mean I wasn't worried about it. You know, but uh not really worried about it, but you know, plus and then I'm plus I'm like dragging all these high school kids into that shelter and there's just some trippy cats hanging out, man. Oh yeah.
And it's you know, it's not very responsible of me as a teacher to take my students into that setting quite, you know, I know it sounds mean, but No no, I mean'cause it it is, bro, because I mean at the end of the day, like it's a huge liability. Like anything can pop off any minute.
So Yeah, man, there were like people that looked like they were gonna start a fight in this second with each other when I was trying to bring the kids in there. There's one guy like puking over on the sidewalk while we were walking in. I'm like, no, dude. But they were For just before I left I remember they broke up the whole homeless thing and they were moving the center into different neighborhoods. They were putting one out.
in um Glendale somewhere. Okay, yeah. And then and then they were putting another one somewhere down south of their um somewhere around fifty something south and on the west side, I can't remember what it was, but they were moving they're spreading them out'cause they they didn't want to have They felt like they were people were bitching about the homeless folks. Like there's that that that cool restaurant downtown, man, at the called the Rio Grande. Oh, the the one that did the train station?
Yeah, yeah, it's a cool restaurant, right? Yeah. But they it's right at the end of the street of the road home right there, right? And that poor guy who ran that restaurant, he has been he's been just had homeless people like just devastating his business for just man like he had people like coming into his restaurant and kick people up at the tables. I mean attacking them in the in the parking lot, you know, is this the nightmare for a small business owner?
¶ Homeless Aid and Personal Grievances
Um button. So I don't know, it sounds like I'm knocking the homeless people. I'm not, but it's No, no, you're not. I just I just feel like the city is supposed to like really let everything go badly up there. Yeah, and then like that one guy um that one that runs that page Utah Satire, like he's real like uh
You know, he's still doing that. Yeah, that guy's cool by the way. I like that. I listened to that one you did. That was awesome. You know what? He's the hell of a cat, bro. Um I I know like he's still his cannabis activist and he still does all that. But he also like kinda took a turn and now he's kind of like trying to do more for the homeless population here in Salt Lake. Oh that's cool. Yeah so like he started a kind of like a fund to uh bring like Water and
Food and shelter, clothes, uh you name it, man. Like he has this thing called Unsheltered Utah and basically like almost every week. They go to like different areas, like they'll go to I don't know, they'll go to Ogden, they'll go to Salt Lake, they'll go'cause I think he's from
He's like from Layton or something like that. Up there in Davis County. Yeah, yeah. He's up in that area. Um Yeah. And so yeah, he does a lot like in Ogden, he does down stuff in down uh Salt Lake. I even think they went down to like Saint George or like He's just saying like now that's gonna start getting colder, like yeah, and all that man. He does a lot bro and then when they were like doing all those like huge mass fucking
destructions of the the encampments for the homeless. Like he was like the f they were like the first ones there. They know they were like take him somewhere. I'd like okay, hey, we're knocking this one down, you have to go over there, you know? So he was over there like hopping them out, supplying. They go and they pick up everything like stuff for the you know like how you were saying like all the the drugs and all that, like he goes over there and he picks it all up and all that. So
It's cool. Yeah, it's cool man. Like, you know, he's doing his part, so No, I think that's cool. I I think that's cool. Um I don't know, I got I kinda got a bad taste in my mouth about the the whole homeless situation because I lived downtown for a lot of years. I lived on I lived on Second South and Seventh East and then I lived I lived on
Uh what was it? Second North and Forth West, third west? No, second west. I'm sorry. Second Yeah. Second North and Second West, which is just on the east side of of uh Uh third west which is a little bit more than a little bit. turns into Beck Street down there. And anyway I lived there for a long time and and man and then I lived in Surehouse for a while and it was like man I felt like every time I got out of my car someone was like hitting me up for money.
Remember remember bro when we went to uh Salt Lake? We went to the library. And we were Uh the library too, yeah. Yeah, remember we were chilling at the library and then you were like, Hey man You're like, Hey bro, you kinda hungry? I was like, Sure. We went to that Dow Taco and that one dude came in and he was like, Yeah man, I just got out the pen and we were like looking at each other like
Okay. And he's like, Yeah man, like I I'm a crazy I'm a crazy ass hero like bro, you're in fucking Salt Lake. Like how crazy can you? And he was like, Yeah, man. Like they they call they call me this, and we were like, Cool story, bro. We were like, anyways, enjoy your fucking talk. Well and when I lived on second when I lived on second south and southern east there, I would take my my boys, my two boys were pretty young at the time. They were like twelve and and ten or something like that.
I would take'em down to the library all the time'cause I was always broke at the time. So we'd go down to the library and pick out movies and I'd let'em play on the computer and that sort of thing, you know. And so we'd take the we'd take that train down there. We'd walk down to the train, pick it up over by
uh I can't remember what that restaurant was there, but anyway. And we'd we'd take it down and the whole thing like one day we'll go down and this like crazy way jumps out of the bushes and is screaming at the my kids and I'm like, Jesus Christ So We get away from her and then there's some other dude like his head's like sticking out of the the bushes and he as I walk by he goes gotta smoke.
I'm like, holy shit. And then I so keep walking and then I we go into Smith's and I see some some dudes like like running out of the place with a case of beer, you know, with the fucking cops. And then I get on the train and there's some lady like talking to my twelve year old son about meth. And I'm like, what? I I'm like, I hate this place, man. It was ridiculous, you know. It really was. See it sounds like I'm exaggerated, but I'm not. It was fucked up.
It was it's funny, I can laugh about it. It's not that big of a deal, but um it just got it got under my skin after a while, man, because I'd see like really young, evil bodied people like hitting me up for money constantly. Oh yeah. And I'm like w at the time I'm working like three jobs because I'm paying my wife alimony job support, you know what I mean? Yeah. And it's like I'm a full time school teacher and I'm working two part time two part time jobs and that's like, really?
Yeah. Yeah, that's that's the thing, bro. Like I see able people right here and I'm like, What the fuck are you doing? And it kinda sucks'cause there's there's people there that are actually like mentally like not able to fucking work, you know,'cause they have like I don't know, whatever, schizophrenia or they have like they need they actually need the assistance and it kind of fucks up because you have all these assholes who just don't want to work who fuck it up for
So yeah, I mean I could get up my soapbox about this, but I don't want to be offensive about it. But yeah, I got kinda I'm kinda bugged by the whole thing. what the city is allowing to happen. It's the type of people that are hitting Europe. It's not necessarily it's the homeless themselves who actually need the help. It's the it's all the It's just it's not a good setting and you're when you're in that setting, yeah, it's fucked up.
¶ Fremont Street Festivities and Future
Yeah. Yeah. But Yeah, it's every city's got those problems. Vegas is a mess down here too. You know how's a how's Fremont Street, man? Fremont Street's a trip. I uh I was dropping by there this morning going to work. It's it's full tilt down here, dude. People are people are partying. Fremont Street's a party. Do you guys need mask group? What? What's that? Do you guys have to wear a mask when you guys are on?
Yeah, yes, like well, I've done some I've done some music things too recently. I've played a couple of gigs recently. Yeah, at a couple of clubs down here. And the bars are funny, like they don't they don't make to wear a mask at all. Oh really? Yeah, what there's this place called Saddle and Spurs. I go to a lot for like open my jams and they and nobody wears a mask in there. There's another place called the um Oh damn it. It's a it's a good place. A sandwich.
And it's the same thing in there. Those are the only two places I've really been. But um on Fremont Street you don't see anybody wearing masks. Yeah. They're just walking around. Just having a good old time partying it up. Um but it's yeah, it's a party down there. They've been having these big free concerts, like they're getting like named people down there. Oh really um Yeah, I can't remember who it was. It was like
uh wasn't a kid rock but it was somebody kinda like that down there. The other day I'm in a noisy room, hang on. But yeah, they've got a they've got a really bad hopeless problem here too. It's uh it's all pretty much on the north end of the strip by Fremont Street. Oh really? Yeah, that's where they
It's kind of humorous though. One I mean you see some funny stuff. Like one day I saw this at the stoplight and I see this lady it's like six o'clock in the morning and this lady just pulls her pants down and starts pissing around in the street. No shame she just yeah, totally shameless. Like she she Pulls your pants down and sticks your butt out in the middle of the road off the sidewalk, squats and just starts pissing right there in front of me from like a hundred other people.
And then I saw another dude a couple days later, I saw another guy that was bare ass butt ass naked and he's just like standing there reading a newspaper. I'm like, what the fuck is that? It was pretty funny. Last time I was there, man, like last time I actually like hung out there I was like twenty one, I think. Yeah, I was twenty. I just remember like there was this one fucking dude. It was like 6 a.m. in the morning, bro. I remember I was just chilling and partying.
And one of my friends was like, Hey man, like I'm hungry. Like, all right, for sure. We went to the subway on Fremont Street, I think it was right there by like the Fort Queens on that. Oh okay. Yeah. And there was this fucking dude dressed up
in a Batman costume like Adam West, like that kind of Batman. Yeah, right. Yeah, and he's a fucking like whole like from head to toe, dude. Like the whole fucking costume. And he's like ordering a sandwich and he's like being like precise and he's using like that Adam West voice. Yeah. And then there's like two cops in back of him, and I'm in back of the cops, and the cops are like looking at me and they're looking at him like Fuck. Alright, here we go.
And then I got I look at the guy and I'm like, That's pretty interesting. He's all that's just another Saturday morning in fucking Vegas. Yeah, there's there's a there's a whole bunch of people and uh you know, buskers. that do that down there. Like there's always a bunch of chicks wearing like really those big wing those angel wings and they wear these these big crazy showgirl costumes basically.
And um and then there's always like some kid with really huge boobs that like stands there naked with little tassels on them and she's dressed up like a nun. And then there's you see the guys from guys dressed up like the guys from Kiff and all the shit, you know, and and then the Batman guys like you're talking about, people just take pictures with them.
That's pretty amusing. It's actually a lot of fun. I like going down there but it's like one of those things you gotta be ready to drink and party. Oh yeah. Yeah man, last time I was there it was like then they have like those A B C liquor stores, that was it is the A B C liquor stores. Or like Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. I took it I mean it was it was a good time, man. I don't know if they still have it but they had the the glitter culture. They still have that?
Oh what is it? The Glitter Ghost, that strip club right there, right before you get to the end of the strip. The end of the the Freemont street? Okay, yeah, I'm not sure. It it might be. It might be. There's a lot of stuff like that down there. Um, it's funny, man, since I've lived here, I I don't really spend a lot of time out and partying really. But you think you would, you know.
But nah, not too much, man. I haven't I haven't been out drinking or anything in a while. Maybe I need to before I move. What do you think about moving, man? Um pri realistically I'd like to try before well, by the next school year I'd like to be I'd like to be out in California if I can. Okay, so not this Okay, so next year, next August. Yeah, so we got it we got another year. Yeah. Um you know, but it's I need to do a lot of work.
to uh to make that happen. But I'd I'd like to do it. I'm not I'm not super crazy about my job. It's it's a good job and everybody's cool, but it's uh just not really my cup of tea, I guess. Um I want to work with some older kids. Uh I was talking to a lady out in California, the superintendent of this district actually, and she's like, Man, come out here and work at the work at the jail.
as a teacher, go to the jail and work with people in the jail who are trying to get their G Ds and stuff like that. I'm like, Hell yes. Hell yeah, dude. That would be a fun gig, man. That would be s that's right up my alley. I love stuff like that. Just like
¶ Heat, Wildfires, and Farewell
people that are that need some help, you know. Yeah. So I'm I'm hoping I get something like that out there or at a high school. Um But uh yeah, yeah, yeah, we'll see what happens. That's that's the idea, that's what I'm shooting for, but I've I've got my uh work cut out for me. Um I'd like to get out of here. The heat the heat down here is really bugging me this year. Is it? Yeah, it sucks, dude. It's like I mean this was like an overly hot year.
Um it's starting to cool down finally. This but even like today, man, it was like a hundred and five. Oh shit. Yeah, I know it's like it's gotta be a little what's it up there in the eighties probably. Well no, it was ninety like ninety-five today, ninety-six. Oh, okay, so it's still pretty warm up there too. Yeah. Fucking um Nah man when I was driving through fucking when I drove through uh
Like barstone all that. Yeah. It was fucking like a hundred and fucking thirteen, bro. I'm like, what in this shit? Like Yeah. I went through Barstow too, whatever it was like four weeks ago. And yeah, it was freaking brutal in Barstow. Um Barstow went through Bakersfield too. It was freaking nuts, man. So hot. But uh a lot of stuff burning down in California too up north and NorCal and Tahoe's been getting its ass kicked and crazy time, man. Yeah, for sure, dude.
I don't know man, but um it's fucking crazy, bro. Um It's crazy world. Yeah. But anyway, brother, I should probably split here pretty soon, my friend. Alright, man. Sounds good, bro. Uh thanks for fucking taking the time and talking to me, bro. So of course. Appreciate you, man. Um anytime man. Yeah, I'll hit you up, bro. Let you know more or less. I'll probably be down there sometime within the next
month so we should fucking meet up and ca have a few man. Let's do it, man. We'll go I know some cool places we can go hit up. Oh yeah, brother sounds good. All right, brother. That's good. Have a good one, Joaquin. Good call, man. Good job, man. All right, let us all.
