2024 marks the 15th anniversary of the signing of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act. This is the law that expanded federal hate crimes law to include sexual orientation and gender identity. It is also the last year of the annual Matthew Shepard Foundation gala. Over the years we have shared moments from a number of these annual events and this month we bring you highlights from the last one held this October in Denver, Colorado with comments from Judy Shepard and honorees John Berry and Kal Penn.
