Episode description

One of the greatest ever football writers - Brian Glanville - passed away on Friday. Often described as 'the doyen of football writers', Glanville penned the definitive history of the World Cup, as well as scripting the movie to the 1966 edition - Goal!

He was frequently a guest of OTB, particularly in the show's early days, and we've compiled some of those appearances in his memory.

00:00:13 - From December 2006, Brian discussed the all-too-short career of Liam Whelan, one of the Busby Babes that perished in Munich in 1958

00:08:24 - From November 2005, Brian is doorstepped for immediate reaction to the death of George Best by Damien Kiberd.

00:15:40 - From January 2007, Jerry O'Sullivan speaks to Brian on FA Cup 3rd round day, asking if the competition has been irreparably damaged

00:27:53 - In June 2007, Brian joined OTB to talk about his then freshly-published book 'England Managers - The Toughest Job in Football'.

00:46:57 - On the day that Giovanni Trapattoni was confirmed as Republic of Ireland manager, Brian joined us to talk about the Italian's storied career.
