Episode description

This week, Nick and Sophia discuss two Golden Globe and numerous critics award-winning films, Nomadland and Minari. First up, they talk about Chloe Zhao’s beautiful road movie and Best Picture frontrunner(?), Nomadland (0:58). They discuss Frances McDormand’s excellent turn as Fern, Zhao’s impeccable direction, and some of their favorite moments in the film before discussing the slightly spoiler-filled ending and where they think Fern may be headed down the road (17:43).

Next, they discuss Lee Isaac Chung’s beautiful portrait of a Korean-American family, Minari (26:40). They share the moments that made them cry, their love for the cast, and why this film is such a successful tale of the triumphs and hardships that come with pursuing the American Dream. Don’t worry, they also talk about Alan Kim and his love for Maroon 5 and Sonic the Hedgehog.
