Hello guys, and welcome back to the Be one Percent Better podcast, where we talk about small shifts that create a big impact in your life. Today's episode is one of my favorites because it's simple, powerful, and honestly, it can change the entire trajectory of your life. The topic being just one percent better every single day. Now, I know what you're thinking, one percent. That sounds tiny, almost meaningless.
But by the end of this episode, I'll promise you you'll see why that one percent is a secret ingredient behind some of the most successful people in the world. So grab your coffee, get comfortable, and it's dive in. Let's start with the concept itself. Improvement doesn't always have to be huge. In fact, most of the time it shouldn't be. Think about it. When we set massive goals like I want to lose fifty pounds or I want to read one hundred books this year, the weight of those goals
can feel overwhelming. We procrastinate, we stall, sometimes we give up before we even start. But what if instead you're in for just to be one percent better each day. James Clear, the author of Atomic Habits, popularized this idea. He explains that you improved by just one percent every single day. By the end of the year, you'll be thirty seven times better. That's the power of compound growth, not just in money, but in your habits, your skills,
and your mindset. Think about it this way. If you went to the gym for just ten minutes today, and tomorrow you did eleven, and the day after you did twelve, you'll barely notice the effort. But a year later you'll be unrecognizable compared to where you started. Let me tell you a story that really drives it home. Back in two thousand and three, the British cycling team was well terrible. They had in one of the Tour de France in over a century. Sponsors didn't want to be associated with
them because they thought the team was cursed. Enter Sir Dave ralse Ford his philosophy the aggradation of marginal gains, which is just a fancy way you're saying, improved by just one percent and everything you do. So they started small. They redesigned their bike seats to be more comfortable. They changed the uniforms to be used with the fabric which will make it more aerodynamic. They even painted the inside of the truck white so they can see dust and
keep equipment cleaner. Individually, none of these changes made headlines, but together they created one of the most dominant dynamics dynasties in sports history. Within five years, the team won multiple Tour de Francis tilts and dozens of Olympic gold medals. That's the power one percent. Here's ecology behind it. Our brain loves rewards. When we set a huge, distant goal, the reward feels so far away, motivation drops. But when we aim to be one percent daily better, we're giving
ourselves a constant stream of little winds. Each wind tells our brain, hey, you're making progress. Keep going. This is why when people try to tell you to radically radically change overnight go from zero workouts to two hours daily, you burn out. It doesn't build momentum, but small winds create a snowball effect. Think of your like an interest in a bank account. You don't notice the first few deposits, but give it time and the compounding takes over all. Right,
so how do you actually use this idea? Here's some practical tips. Pick one area of focus. Don't just try to be one percent better on everything all at once. Choose fitness learning, relationships, finances, finances just when they define your one percent. For example, fitness, do one extra push up, reading, read one extra page, productivity, one extra minute of the work track it, keep a journal or use a simple app. Seeing those tiny steps adds up and keeps you motivated.
Celebrate product Remember this isn't about perfection. It's about slightly being better today than you were yesterday, and you already won allowed room for setbacks. One percent doesn't mean every single day is perfect. Some days might be flat, some days might even slip backwards, but over time, the overall curve still truns upward. Let's put this into daily life. Imagine this. You drink one less soda today. That's one percent better for your health. You put away five dollars
away instead of zero. That's one percent better for your financial future. You compliment your partner or colder. That's one percent better for your relationships. It's not dramatic, no one collapsed, but over weeks, months, or years, it changes everything. So here's my challenge for you, starting today, find your one percent, just one small action that moves you forward to tomorrow. Do the same. But success isn't a our giant leaps
it's about steady steps. The British Cycling Team proved it, science proves it and if you commit to it, you prove it yourself. Be one percent better today and tomorrow be one percent better again. So thanks to you guys, and that Isie and thanks for tuning up to today's podcast and remember, be one percent better.
