This episode of One More Time discusses why representation in music is important and what educators can do to better allow for representation in our ensembles and talks with composer Jodie Blackshaw; Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Minnesota, Prof. Betsy McCann; and Assistant Professor of Music Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Joyce McCall. Scott Schwartz (Director of the Sousa Archive and Center for American Music) shares stories of the Sousa’s hobbies and how they influenced the band. Dr. Michael Mapp, Director of Bands at New Mexico State University, provides our two-minute technique for the month.
